      Originally George Lucas wanted to use The Planets by Gustav Holst as the Star Wars soundtrack, he just wanted to use classical music in Star Wars the same way Stanley Kubrick did with 2001: A Space Oddysey, fortunately Steven Spielberg convinced Lucas to work with John Williams, but still Williams referenced in his scores some of the music excerpts that Lucas used as temp-tracks, just to give an example about how Lucas wanted the Star Wars score to sound like.
      Fun fact: the first two recordings (one acoustic and the other electrical) of The Planets were done by Gustav Holst himself conducting the London Symphony Orchestra, same orchestra would play the Star Wars score under John Williams' baton like 5 decades later. There's also a recording of The Planets with John Williams conducting theBoston Pops Orchestra.

    • @WilliamShakespielberg
      @WilliamShakespielberg 4 месяца назад +1

      Right guys, I saw that too. R2 being in front (for a couple frames) initially doesn't make sense due to what we see once Luke-Ben-C3PO turn the corner.. we 'see' R2 as being behind them. But after they turn the corner, notice how R2 actually enters from the right side. This means that the red R2 unit *_behind_* the group is Not R2-D2; we don't see 'Red-R2' speeding up and veering off, to match the point where real-R2 re-enters the frame. I think that is why Adywan edited it this way. It's a continuity correction: it implies that R2 _was_ initally ahead, veers off to the right (which we don't see) and then quickly returns to the group (from the right) but now he's behind them bcuz he veered off. At first I was confused, but I _knew_ there had to be a reaon Adywan did this fix. *I think Adywan made a great decision on this edit* [Our universe: Most likely this was due to the placement of cameras & cables etc, and they just didn't have the flexibility to have R2-D2 roll right in front of the cameras with the group. Also likely due how we are aware these robots were very problematic back in 1976-1977.]

    I love your colour grading, and I noticed a lot of recolours (I'm not sure if you made the right R2 red or not hmm). My only complaint is some things look a little too sharp, I think the moon in the opening and the starfields could do with softening a little. They look a little too much like white spots IMO. Otherwise fantastic work as always, dig the new graphics and holograms too!

    • @TheRealNormanBates
      @TheRealNormanBates Год назад +6

      I am okay with the sharpness, though I will have to play this on my 65” TV and not the phone. I concur on the color timing: Harmy’s despecialized edition of ANH was a bit too much on the yellow spectrum. This finds a good balance with natural colors.
      That one shot of Vader and his cohorts was a bit too blue (though I like to think that Vader’s company made the bluish TIEs from *Empire* on, and I can easily see his cohorts using his brand).
      Even so, thanks Andy for keeping the TIEs grey/white, at least for ANH.
      I almost miss Dr. Evason’s human arm.
      Here is hoping:
      - spinning hyperspace Star field
      - no electricity on torture needle
      - no explosion ring on Alderaan
      - maybe better Dewbacks with the elephant legs than the frog feet (maybe show the mouth open and yawn on the one in the back during the “look,sir! Droids!” scene)
      - no *Empire* theme in the TIE fleet reveal during The Last Battle.
      Regardless, this is looking fantastic!

    • @worldwideinterests1
      @worldwideinterests1 Год назад +1

      Watch again- R2 is added in order to be briefly seen in front of everyone, which is the only way for him to make it around the corner in the right amount of time so the other is simply turned into a different droid altogether.

    Love this! I can't wait for this project to be finished. Thank you Adywan! I LOVE that you fixed the black levels of the explosion shot on the Tantive IV, that poor composite has always bothered me. You've done a phenomenal job with color-correcting, this is shaping up to be the best looking version of the film ever made. Overall this is astounding work, but I do have 3 questions:
    1. Have you considered re-doing some of the Mos Eisley shots? The 1997 CGI and Photoshop matte paintings do not hold up at all. I personally can't stand the entering Mos Eisley shots anymore, and I hope you'll at least consider using elements from the D+ shows to create new shots to replace this poorly done sequence, which was Lucas' inspiration to do the Special Editions in the first place. I think you have a golden opportunity here.
    2. I think I saw the Yavin hangar bay expanded into the darkness and shadows in one of your other clip reels, so I assume these shots aren't finished? I certainly hope so. That is one of the absolute best improvements you could possible make, and would be right in-line with your work on ESB:R.
    3. Please consider reaching out to CGI artists like Howard Day for replacing some of the x-wing shots like the one at 6:12. The 1997 CGI is horribly dated and people are making more impressive CG on their laptops these days with free software. I know you already made that TIE Fighter Squadron shot for the first version of Revisited, so I am really hoping you plan on at least 1 or 2 more ambitious shots, like your amazing work on the Battle of Hoth.
    I've donated in the past, and I look forward to donating again in the future. Please let me know if you need any volunteers, I would love to help out on anything I can. Thank you for making this and May the Force be With You always!

    I wish this was the official cut, I remember seeing these versions of Adywan years ago and I was impressed, they made the movies look more modern and they solved continuity errors that now bother me a bit when I watch the movies, I even liked the color grading more in the remastered version than in the official special editions, especially when the X-Wings are in the trench run and they can't be seen in the background of Luke's rear windows. Also nice addition of R2's blinking into red and blue, and C3PO being seen in Luke's vinoculars as the rest of the area.

    Just the opinion of a sad old git who originally saw Star Wars in '77 at three years old and has been booked since then but, and I'm sorry if this offends you Adywan, if you have indeed removed additions you made in ANH:R such as the extended Death Star reveal and the awesome battle of Yavin dogfighting over the Death Star, you've ruined your own vision as well as denigrating your own genius. I know, it's your project and you can do what you want with it but if George Lucas had half the inspiration and love for his own creation that you've given to Star Wars over the last two decades, we wouldn't have the debacle of the "special" editions!
    Your work, for me, produced a vision of A New Hope that is definitive. Even now when I see that cloud of TIE fighters converge on the Alliance ships to the strain of the Imperial Match my guts just about drop out of my bowels! I feel an excitement a billion times more intense than I did in that cinema nearly fifty years ago and I was excited enough then, I can tell you! Every tweak you made, every nuance, every corrected detail reinvigorated my passion again and again and don't get me started on ESB:R! Actually seeing AT-ATs deploying their stormtrooper cargo had me nearly soiling myself!
    As I've said; your project, your decisions. I love your work with all my heart but cannot help feeling somewhat disappointed. I just hope it is your decision and you didn't cave in to pressure from purists. We all know how much of a pain in the arse they can be!
    Thank you for your dedication and hard work, Adywan. The Force will definitely always be with you.

    There is one continuity gaffe left I wish could be fixed. In the rebel hanger, ground crew hands the pilots these clean white helmets. Then in space the helmets are weathered and covered in heraldry. I can see you've made the blue rebel crest red, but I'm still hoping that some modified version of Deepfake could print the heraldry onto those white helmets.

      I concur. It's one of two changes I don't like from the Revisited version, the other one being the new red screen during the Rebel briefing. They stand out in a bad way, and not because the effects are poorly done, but because they feel really out of place with the rest of the movie. Wish he'd go the ESB:R route, in which he changed a lot of things for the better without changing the aesthetic of the movie (the ion cannon control screens on Hoth are a good example).

    What is truly amazing is how it feels like I know every one of these scenes so intimately. I've seen this film countless times since 1977 and I've owned every single media & fanfilm edition since then, and it just _Never gets old._ Overall I love these beautiful color corrections, and the "new" CGI updates (as well as the necessary DeSpecialized CGI corrections of course.) Despite a few very small nitpicks, I would happily prefer this edition in 1080p instead the Disney UHD, or even Harmy's or Hal9000's excellent edits. Looking forward to this Very much!

    Hey - cool - I like what I'm seeing. Don't mind seeing one of my favorite films looking sharper and more pristine than ever with some welcome new changes. My kids are gonna have the BEST Star Wars experience one day; goodness they will be so spoiled! They will grow up getting to see every last bit of excellent Star Wars material (with notable exceptions in teh Obi Wan series and everything post Book of Boba Fett as of now) I won't run my kid's brains with cheap Disney crap!
    Hey - can we get them to go in and give us updated versions of all the "bad" Disney SW stuff? Maybe they can make Obi Wan and Episodes 7 - 9 better somehow? THEY need updating for sure 😆

    Beautiful processing of effects, especially shots and improving the quality of additional objects, such as the planet of the Death Star. But I advise you to pay attention to the latest official edition of the original 4k HDR trilogy. This version has the best color pattern. Also about some effects. I think the animals from the scene of Luke and Obi-Wan's arrival in Mos Eisley were removed in vain. The animals complement the scene well and make it more lively. Also, the hologram of watching the battle over the Death Star tode was added in vain. Well, the version with the shock wave from the explosion of the Death Star also improves and modernizes this scene.

    2:33 For some reason, this edit makes more sense, since a lightsaber would not just cut through a body, but it would also simply burn through it as well, leaving minimal to no blood. This also keeps the continuity with the rest of the films, since the prequels and the two sequels, ESB and ROTJ have no bloodshed when a character is struck with a lightsaber.

    Still haven't seen a satisfying fix for the speeder drive-by in Mos Eisley. I get that production initially shot it hoping that the wheels would be obscured by natural shadows, and then decided to reposition the shadow in post because they wanted to see daylight between the speeder and the ground. The official versions have tried cleaning it up but the shadow is still being cast in the wrong direction (I don't think twin suns work that way) and if the shadow IS falling correctly it means the speeder and everyone in it is much smaller than it should be. Maybe try restoring the vehicle's original, actual shadow?
