I like to tell myself that with how much of a workaholic Monty was, he’s probably spending his afterlife working on the real canon volumes. With God trying, and failing, to convince him to take a break. The real show is waiting for us in Heaven, with 11/10 fight choreography.

@@spanklie3142 There wasn't really much of a story in the first few volumes, it sort of feels like very little time is also passing between the few story beats we get making it almost seem like the first 3 volumes took place over maybe about a month since it seems like each event takes place right after the next and the volumes seem to take place over a few days or weeks. The Monty era of the show was pretty simple, it was a passion project that was starting to get big and the creators were flying by the seat of their pants high on unexpected success, it had it's issues but people were willing to over look it as the growing pains of a show still in it's early days and wanting to see it live up to the hype it was trying to build for itself. The mid series was just horrible and where the show really fell apart as not only did it become clear the creators didn't know what to do despite having very strong opinions on the show's direction but they also got too adicted to the high of success and started huffing their own farts to get their fix. The show lost what little was left to connect it spiritually to the first parts, being completely different animation software which abandoned their old aesthetic, it no longer seemed to have the same passion and energy of the previous seasons, and without monty the fights were pretty freaking trash. And the plot just kept sticking it's head further and further up it's own asshole.
I mean I could forgive vol 4 as taking a step back since a story acr was finished and a new one started. and It had some good things in it. Vol 5 I don't remember. 6. was ok, The apathy grim, the introduction to the city and Jaun's family .... the giant mech and the backstory were underwhelming. and 7! yeah it felt like Volume 3 if stole it soul ... also, I like penny but I ain't big on character resurrection... haven't watched 8

RWBY was a show with so much potential that everyone wanted to love and see succeed, and we watched as it grew over three seasons improving and fix its mistakes. Then, sadly, the creator Monty Oum died and the people that took over fought each other to hamfist in a ton of pointless political and social commentary while discarding the established plot and bringing in something else all at once. It was a dumpster fire.

Agreed, except for certain character proportions. I also didn’t like the permanent blush they did for the girls. I know the fight scene between team bumblebee and Adam was a recycled fight motion Monty had created awhile back. Because he knew he wanted Yang to fight Adam again sometime in the future.

@@shiethegal If you don't know, in RWBY there's a demographic of animal people called Faunus that represents IRL oppressed minorities (in a show about anime girls fighting shadow monsters, yes). To drive the point home, they are regularly and legally used as slaves by humans. And they've been handled so poorly by the writers that those that fight for Faunus freedom from oppression became the bad guys that team RWBY fights for a good chunk of the series, even more so than the aforementioned shadow monsters. That's what I meant with my comment. But if you interpreted my message as actual RT being discriminatory, I'm pretty sure some black employees got discriminated against and made a big fuss about it, some time ago. RT have done *a lot* of shady practices in their offices over the years.
RWBY is like Sonic. A vocal chunk of fans will say that the early work is the only good part, most of the music is nothing but bangers, and the story has highs, lows, and plateaus, among other comparisons. So really, enjoy it at your own pace. And also look at the trailers for extra.
Here's a fun game you guys should play the further you get into the show: Try to keep a firm grip on the world-building, plot, and setting using only the episodes of the show, no external sources.

@@anonymousapproximation8549 Like, I loved early RWBY when it came out, but I gotta agree with you here. At first, there was Aura and Semblance - 2 supernatural abilities. I figured Aura was like Ki from DBZ, just some general form of energy. From there, Semblences were just supernatural powers people were born with. There was also Dust which I figured had elemental properties like in any generic fantasy world, but it could have interesting interactions with Aura and Semblences. This was fine, it was a neat "show don't tell" where I could assume what these things were for the moment, and the show would explain in more details regarding the specific properties later. I never saw beyond season 4 or 5, but hearing others say that magic vs Semblence still wasn't explained is disappointing cuz it could've been done in a million ways (e.g. Ruby asks "Wow, was that your Semblence?" and have the person answer "Not quite, that was magic." followed by "Uh... what's the difference?" then a proper explanation of both, or literally anything better than that which isn't a high bar to pass). I understand that RT maybe didn't know the specifics of the world building, so they still don't actually know how Monty would differentiate magic and Semblences even now. Still, they could've given *some* thought into it themselves and managed to make up something reasonable (e.g. magic is extra Semblences, Semblences require Aura while magic is fueled by something else, magic is Semblences on steroids, etc.) and then simply write the story with that in mind.
I hate admitting volume 4 was when the series just fell off hard but for me, volume 4 started the bs the show is now. The reason I hate admitting that is because of monty oum working on the first 3 seasons prior and it feels disrespectful to the people who tried to make volume 4 good. (Rip monty oum, absolute legend)
Man was RWBY so much fun in the earlier volumes. Always loved to see the fights they could come up with and all the characters abilities and themes (like colors or inspirations).
As JelloApocalypse said: "If you are watching RWBY, binge the 3 first Volumes, and get a friend to tell you the rest because they are garbage" Honestly RWBY went pretty downhill as time went on, sadly Monty passed away when Volume 3 was ending so there's a possibility that some of his ideas were never introduced into the show. Honestly, you go better reading Fanfiction of it than watching it nowadays.
The only reason that I kept watching it is because there is a spec of my being hoping that the quality rises, specially in terms of storytelling, and to see if what they put in there just in case one of the fanfictions I may or may not read introduce.
The best thing about early RWBY is the character designs and the action choreography, which you guys quickly picked up on. I like the first two seasons, but after the creator and show runner died, they went away from those strong points and relied on their really weak writing skills and pandering to Tumblr.
You don't need to much experience writing to even surpass the quality of the original series. Don't get me wrong, I like RWBY, but I liked 'cause the fandom is way too long consistent and creative than Miles Luna and Kerry Shawcross.

As a long time viewer, I would like to disagree. RWBY has NEVER been good. It started out terrible and continued to be terrible the entire time, save for about four episodes of volume 3, where it suddenly got mind-blowingly good, then nosedived back into mediocrity. But make no mistake, it didn't start out good and then become bad. It's simply been different levels of terrible this whole time.
@@vsGoliath96 Put it this way, the first 3 volumes were ENTERTAINING. Many people confuse that word with "good". From animation errors (clipping, etc.), to bad writing, and poor voice acting, RWBY vols. 1-3 were a mess. Onjectively bad, but thanks to the dialogue, fight choreography, music, and character/weapon designs, you can easily see how it could be subjectively entertaining (for a RoosterTeeth production). Then sometime during Vol. 4 the show went to the 9th Circle of Hell level of terrible, where it has yet to be seen again. I swear, just when it looks like the newer seasons of RWBY will do something half-ways entertaining they always follow-up with EVEN WORSE writing than before.

None of the production team knew what they were doing, Monty couldn't care less about the storyline, none of the animators knew how to use Poser Pro, the list goes on. But it all comes together as this charming little web series that's exactly what they wanted to make and they had a good time doing it. Then volume 4 happened.
Ah god, looking at the animation and hearing the dialogue is painful, but back in 2014 I ate this shit up. My friends recommended the show to me my sophomore year of high school and part of there pitch was, I kid you not: “Everything is a gun.” Which is a 1000% true: it’s one of the core features of the show.
Gonna be honest, the trailers for this series were TOO good for it. I still remember the first trailer where a badass looking Red Riding Hood wielding a Techno-Punk half Scythe/Sniper was blowing away shadow wolves in one of the most amazing fights I've ever seen. Made me thing it was gonna be some hybrid of LotR/Cyberpunk series I've been wanting for forever... Then it turns out to be a another high-school anime... I felt so let down when the realization hit me.
yeah that first trailer really makes it seem like RWBY would be a COMPLETELY different story kinda wonder what a series based solely on the 'feel' of that first trialer would be like
The Trailers were really hype and completely different from what we got from the show. It's kinda funny that the worst one, Yellow, was the most indicative of what the actual show would be like with some cringy dialogue, bad voice acting, and weird animation issues but banging fight scenes that run on rule of cool even when it makes things raise questions. The first few trailers gave the feel of a moody and artsy show with a lot of spectacle, taking place in a weird amalgamation of fairytale fantasy and cyberpunk. Something like Afro Samurai.
God I can't imagine what it would be like going into this hoping for a crazy Dungeon Punk adventure with guns, magic, and cyber weapons only to find fucking Homecoming Love Triangles.
I keep up with RWBY because I still watch it and love it despite everything that has happen with the show but sometimes I laugh at videos of people roasting the show because its just funny to me for some reason.
I'd argue that while the animation looks refined the overall substance and creativity of it has dipped. I mean take a look at the moves in Volume 4's Red trailer compared to Volume 1's. 4's just has RWBY dashing around slashing her scythe whereas 1 has her getting creative, she balances on her scythe, dances with it, etc. You'd never see that in current RWBY. Now sure the animation in 4's Red trailer isn't BAD but it's all kinda samey and boring.

Zaidan Hakim That’s more on the topic of shading than animation and yea I agree the newer shading works much better. Even if the newer colours seem a little too desaturated. The models as a whole are debatable. They’re fine but I feel like the Poser models looked better in motion than the Maya ones. Though that might be because volumes 1 & 2 were rendered in 30fps where as volume 3 onward was rendered in 24fps. So perhaps the Maya animations are just harder to follow with less frames, probably why the movement in recent volumes has been slowed down.
I immediately got hooked onto RWBY when they showed the trailers to each characters before season 1 started. It's what got me into Roosterteeth's channel (that and Michael's Rage Quit videos). Can't believe it's almost 10 years since they started
This really takes me back. I remember being 13 and super hyped after watching the red trailer since I was already a Monty Oum fan before that (hope at least one of yoy has seen Dead Fantasy). Episode 1 comes out and there's slight dissapointment over the length and general quality, but hey it's indie and we're gonna get Monty Oum fight scenes so the hype barely died for me. I don't keep up with the series anymore since the fights, while they aren't bad per see, really aren't as exciting anymore and the plot had too many retcons which seems to be continuing. A lot of fans like to say the writing died with Monty, but honestly he was mostly an animations guy and the writers were mostly the same even after he passed. The story was always going to be shit, but at least with him it was shit that was fun to look at.
Honestly, RWBY is one of my favourite shows, despite all of its flaws. I still love to see people’s opinions on it, and watching the internet blow up with controversial statements over it is my favourite pastime. I love seeing people’s differing opinions on it
These early volumes make me miss Monty. I remember when this was made by him, and like 5 other people who don’t animate. BTW Monty voiced Ren in the first two volumes.

The early seasons were alright, but trust me it gets WAY worse down the road. For some reason I still get fritzy when I see popular people engage about it.
the production and technical animation quality increased but at the cost of literally everything else. The barebones plot suddenly gets bloated, the pacing which was already sketchy but at least quick grinds to a halt, the fight scenes become 95% shit and I think only like 3 are actually even okay, and despite not having the same movement or clipping issues they now have much more obvious and plot relavent continuity issues between shots where characters pop in and out of existence in whatever location is needed to facilitate the plot. They even lost their unique aesthetic for a a more bland and generic 3D animation look with the change between engines.

@@IckusVickus I personally wouldn't call it a 10/10 but makes characters have consistent internal logic, worldbuilding that wasn't done by a 5 year old and fixes dialogue and scenes that were just horrendous. RWBY but with hindsight and perspective is probably the best description. At least a 7/10
Honestly, I love this show from episode one until nowadays "dumpster fires", I agree that the majority of what happens after season 3 is trash, and that season 5 is just freaking forgettable, but man how I love this series, from the action scenes to the character development, the sudden plot twists that makes you just angry and moments of glory (speaking to you beginning of season 8) that literally made me cry, I'm sure to say that That's my favorite show, and I will watch it all until it ends with a smile in my face
At least you acknowledge that it has flaws. Too many fans think that they're so highbrow that they think anything that they like must be flawless. Anything less would hurt their fragile egos. Not you, though, you're cool.
I think something that get's overlooked in this series is how great the music was in the first 3 volumes (I don't remember anything from after volume 3, like another comment said I prefer to pretend volume 4 and onward isn't cannon because I just couldn't watch the series after volume 5-6? I honestly forget). Songs like Caffeine, Red Like Roses Part II, This Will Be The Day, Time To Say Goodbye, When It Falls, and It's My Turn are so golden to me, like especially when they backed fight scenes. Monty Oum's fight scenes were amazing and having the music to back it up only made it better. I always go back and listen to those songs from time to time because I enjoy them so much :)
I really liked this series up until the later volumes. Sure it's animation (not during fights) was pretty dicey, but it was still pretty fun to watch. I hope y'all keep watching it.
I've been in the FNDM since the Red trailer and at this point, I just want to see how it ends. Also, the fanfiction is unironiaclly better than the later seasons.
I used to like this show but after volume 4 i started tuning out more often and just would watch clips of what happened. After Monty Oum passed away (shows creator) the show kinda goes all over the place in terms of the characters and general story. It's really sad because you can tell Monty Oum put a lot of thought into RWBY besides the references, it had decent world building and the fight choreography was amazing. Sadly Monty Oum passed away due to a allergic reaction during a medical procedure at his doctors. Which is incredibly sad because I bet if Monty Oum were still alive he would have risen in the world of American 3D animation and would have gotten his own studio eventually.
Something just dawned on me about the dust shop at the beginning. If dust is so valuable, why is the store set out like a pick and mix sweet shop, with massive ready made bags on the shelf. The opening heist is the equivalent of a heavily armed, well dressed, bank heist crew raiding a corner store for cigarettes (which in real life are much well guarded).
That's because people at like Monty is a heavy genius. I love Monty Oum but people need to keep in mind he's not the best at writing, he's only the best at animating and choreography. I like the first two volumes and I notice they were some disappointments, and most people don't talk about it because you know... Monty.
RWBY is pretty bad overall, especially it’s plot and characters at points. It’s animation can go down the toilet a lot of the time. But when you watch it, it has moments and qualities that make you come back for more like a drug. (Can ‘t say the same for the most recent seasons)
There is no volume 4-8 it's just 1-2-3 then the show ends on a massive cliffhanger like a typical anime and is getting picked up with ice queendom. That's my headcannon and i'm glad that it's this way
My heart will never recover from the pain of this show going as South as it did after season 3-4. I was actually so into this show i would rewatch every volume everytime a new one would come out, just to be able to pick up on any hidden plot details that may have been set up before hand. Until volume 6 that is, I couldn't take it anymore after that for various reasons, at this point I would see the volumes after all the episodes were out because I was in to deep to stop.
Don't know if they mention this but there is an *official* Rwby x Justice League comic and I don't know how I feel about that. Bought the first 2 issues and I am way too scared to read the second issue.
Volume 1-3 are some of my favorites shows, despite the massive, MASSIVE issues contained in them. It's like they are my children, then volume 4 is like my step son, season 5 is my step cousin, and volume 6 onward is like Joe from the alley who you can't tell if is on Crack, Meth, both, or is just a figment of your broken psyche after the accident. They're bad, what I'm saying is they're bad.
RWBY inspired me to want to become an animator because it started out as a passion project of Monty Oum. I was about 12 yrs old and RWBY used to be my favourite thing in the world, until everything else that happened before V3 ended because it wasn't the same anymore. It was hard letting it go but we all need to just keep moving forward, y'know? Also a bit spoilers for V6: I forced myself to watch until my favourite character died, Adam Taurus, and made the decision that this show really have no direction and weak writing. Really threw me in 5 stages of grief kind of deal lol
Honestly, I’m just watching this show to get to the end, I’ve wasted so much time on this show and it’s lore that I just can’t leave it. I love watching reviews and podcasts, I love it but I also hate it. It’s just the show is stuck in this cycle of the finales being horrible, the middle being good, and the beginning being alright.

I like the early music, before it seemed like the soundtrack was just the same 2 songs endlessly recycled. The video game started out as a fanmade project that they bought up and never actually tried to improve on, the whole thing is like 3 levels with like 3 enemies, and every character has the exact same 3 voice lines for every action which you basically spam to clear a wave. Quality that's acceptable from one guy in his basement making it in his spare time to be a fan game, but comes across as lazy as hell for an official game. Heck, most souless cash grab movie video games end to have a bit more content than Grimm Eclipse, this is like the early era of PC games where I'd expect it to come on a CD included with a box of cereal.

I like to tell myself that with how much of a workaholic Monty was, he’s probably spending his afterlife working on the real canon volumes. With God trying, and failing, to convince him to take a break.
The real show is waiting for us in Heaven, with 11/10 fight choreography.
What helps me sleep at night is that only season 1 through 3 only exist and nothing else after that.

Volume 1 is a bit rough when you aren't used to it, but the animation gets better with every volume. Story takes a nosedive after volume 3 though

@@spanklie3142 There wasn't really much of a story in the first few volumes, it sort of feels like very little time is also passing between the few story beats we get making it almost seem like the first 3 volumes took place over maybe about a month since it seems like each event takes place right after the next and the volumes seem to take place over a few days or weeks.
The Monty era of the show was pretty simple, it was a passion project that was starting to get big and the creators were flying by the seat of their pants high on unexpected success, it had it's issues but people were willing to over look it as the growing pains of a show still in it's early days and wanting to see it live up to the hype it was trying to build for itself. The mid series was just horrible and where the show really fell apart as not only did it become clear the creators didn't know what to do despite having very strong opinions on the show's direction but they also got too adicted to the high of success and started huffing their own farts to get their fix. The show lost what little was left to connect it spiritually to the first parts, being completely different animation software which abandoned their old aesthetic, it no longer seemed to have the same passion and energy of the previous seasons, and without monty the fights were pretty freaking trash. And the plot just kept sticking it's head further and further up it's own asshole.
I mean I could forgive vol 4 as taking a step back since a story acr was finished and a new one started. and It had some good things in it. Vol 5 I don't remember. 6. was ok, The apathy grim, the introduction to the city and Jaun's family .... the giant mech and the backstory were underwhelming. and 7! yeah it felt like Volume 3 if stole it soul ... also, I like penny but I ain't big on character resurrection... haven't watched 8

RWBY was a show with so much potential that everyone wanted to love and see succeed, and we watched as it grew over three seasons improving and fix its mistakes.
Then, sadly, the creator Monty Oum died and the people that took over fought each other to hamfist in a ton of pointless political and social commentary while discarding the established plot and bringing in something else all at once. It was a dumpster fire.
They don't even do a good job with the social commentary. Like, they had so much to work with and wasted all of it.

@@shiethegal If you don't know, in RWBY there's a demographic of animal people called Faunus that represents IRL oppressed minorities (in a show about anime girls fighting shadow monsters, yes). To drive the point home, they are regularly and legally used as slaves by humans. And they've been handled so poorly by the writers that those that fight for Faunus freedom from oppression became the bad guys that team RWBY fights for a good chunk of the series, even more so than the aforementioned shadow monsters. That's what I meant with my comment.
But if you interpreted my message as actual RT being discriminatory, I'm pretty sure some black employees got discriminated against and made a big fuss about it, some time ago. RT have done *a lot* of shady practices in their offices over the years.
RWBY is like Sonic. A vocal chunk of fans will say that the early work is the only good part, most of the music is nothing but bangers, and the story has highs, lows, and plateaus, among other comparisons.
So really, enjoy it at your own pace. And also look at the trailers for extra.

@@anonymousapproximation8549 Like, I loved early RWBY when it came out, but I gotta agree with you here. At first, there was Aura and Semblance - 2 supernatural abilities. I figured Aura was like Ki from DBZ, just some general form of energy. From there, Semblences were just supernatural powers people were born with. There was also Dust which I figured had elemental properties like in any generic fantasy world, but it could have interesting interactions with Aura and Semblences. This was fine, it was a neat "show don't tell" where I could assume what these things were for the moment, and the show would explain in more details regarding the specific properties later.
I never saw beyond season 4 or 5, but hearing others say that magic vs Semblence still wasn't explained is disappointing cuz it could've been done in a million ways (e.g. Ruby asks "Wow, was that your Semblence?" and have the person answer "Not quite, that was magic." followed by "Uh... what's the difference?" then a proper explanation of both, or literally anything better than that which isn't a high bar to pass). I understand that RT maybe didn't know the specifics of the world building, so they still don't actually know how Monty would differentiate magic and Semblences even now. Still, they could've given *some* thought into it themselves and managed to make up something reasonable (e.g. magic is extra Semblences, Semblences require Aura while magic is fueled by something else, magic is Semblences on steroids, etc.) and then simply write the story with that in mind.

Man was RWBY so much fun in the earlier volumes. Always loved to see the fights they could come up with and all the characters abilities and themes (like colors or inspirations).

The best thing about early RWBY is the character designs and the action choreography, which you guys quickly picked up on. I like the first two seasons, but after the creator and show runner died, they went away from those strong points and relied on their really weak writing skills and pandering to Tumblr.

As a long time viewer, I would like to disagree.
RWBY has NEVER been good. It started out terrible and continued to be terrible the entire time, save for about four episodes of volume 3, where it suddenly got mind-blowingly good, then nosedived back into mediocrity. But make no mistake, it didn't start out good and then become bad. It's simply been different levels of terrible this whole time.
@@vsGoliath96 Put it this way, the first 3 volumes were ENTERTAINING. Many people confuse that word with "good". From animation errors (clipping, etc.), to bad writing, and poor voice acting, RWBY vols. 1-3 were a mess. Onjectively bad, but thanks to the dialogue, fight choreography, music, and character/weapon designs, you can easily see how it could be subjectively entertaining (for a RoosterTeeth production). Then sometime during Vol. 4 the show went to the 9th Circle of Hell level of terrible, where it has yet to be seen again. I swear, just when it looks like the newer seasons of RWBY will do something half-ways entertaining they always follow-up with EVEN WORSE writing than before.

None of the production team knew what they were doing, Monty couldn't care less about the storyline, none of the animators knew how to use Poser Pro, the list goes on. Ah god, looking at the animation and hearing the dialogue is painful, but back in 2014 I ate this shit up. My friends recommended the show to me my sophomore year of high school and part of there pitch was, I kid you not: “Everything is a gun.”

The Trailers were really hype and completely different from what we got from the show. It's kinda funny that the worst one, Yellow, was the most indicative of what the actual show would be like with some cringy dialogue, bad voice acting, and weird animation issues but banging fight scenes that run on rule of cool even when it makes things raise questions.
The first few trailers gave the feel of a moody and artsy show with a lot of spectacle, taking place in a weird amalgamation of fairytale fantasy and cyberpunk. Something like Afro Samurai.
God I can't imagine what it would be like going into this hoping for a crazy Dungeon Punk adventure with guns, magic, and cyber weapons only to find fucking Homecoming Love Triangles.
To be fair to early RWBY, it probably had less budget than Ex-Arm.

I'd argue that while the animation looks refined the overall substance and creativity of it has dipped.
I mean take a look at the moves in Volume 4's Red trailer compared to Volume 1's. 4's just has RWBY dashing around slashing her scythe whereas 1 has her getting creative, she balances on her scythe, dances with it, etc. You'd never see that in current RWBY. Now sure the animation in 4's Red trailer isn't BAD but it's all kinda samey and boring.

Zaidan Hakim That’s more on the topic of shading than animation and yea I agree the newer shading works much better. Even if the newer colours seem a little too desaturated.
The models as a whole are debatable. They’re fine but I feel like the Poser models looked better in motion than the Maya ones. Though that might be because volumes 1 & 2 were rendered in 30fps where as volume 3 onward was rendered in 24fps. So perhaps the Maya animations are just harder to follow with less frames, probably why the movement in recent volumes has been slowed down.

I immediately got hooked onto RWBY when they showed the trailers to each characters before season 1 started. It's what got me into Roosterteeth's channel (that and Michael's Rage Quit videos). Can't believe it's almost 10 years since they started
This really takes me back. I remember being 13 and super hyped after watching the red trailer since I was already a Monty Oum fan before that (hope at least one of yoy has seen Dead Fantasy). Episode 1 comes out and there's slight dissapointment over the length and general quality, but hey it's indie and we're gonna get Monty Oum fight scenes so the hype barely died for me. I don't keep up with the series anymore since the fights, while they aren't bad per see, really aren't as exciting anymore and the plot had too many retcons which seems to be continuing. A lot of fans like to say the writing died with Monty, but honestly he was mostly an animations guy and the writers were mostly the same even after he passed. The story was always going to be shit, but at least with him it was shit that was fun to look at.

For some reason I still get fritzy when I see popular people engage about it.
the production and technical animation quality increased but at the cost of literally everything else. The barebones plot suddenly gets bloated, the pacing which was already sketchy but at least quick grinds to a halt, the fight scenes become 95% shit and I think only like 3 are actually even okay, and despite not having the same movement or clipping issues they now have much more obvious and plot relavent continuity issues between shots where characters pop in and out of existence in whatever location is needed to facilitate the plot. They even lost their unique aesthetic for a a more bland and generic 3D animation look with the change between engines.

Honestly, I love this show from episode one until nowadays "dumpster fires", I agree that the majority of what happens after season 3 is trash, and that season 5 is just freaking forgettable, but man how I love this series, from the action scenes to the character development, the sudden plot twists that makes you just angry and moments of glory (speaking to you beginning of season 8) that literally made me cry, I'm sure to say that That's my favorite show, and I will watch it all until it ends with a smile in my face

I think something that get's overlooked in this series is how great the music was in the first 3 volumes (I don't remember anything from after volume 3, like another comment said I prefer to pretend volume 4 and onward isn't cannon because I just couldn't watch the series after volume 5-6? I honestly forget).
Songs like Caffeine, Red Like Roses Part II, This Will Be The Day, Time To Say Goodbye, When It Falls, and It's My Turn are so golden to me, like especially when they backed fight scenes. Monty Oum's fight scenes were amazing and having the music to back it up only made it better. I always go back and listen to those songs from time to time because I enjoy them so much :)
I love RWBY but I find it so funny when people make fun of it because like yeah it's rough sometimes lol

I really liked this series up until the later volumes. Sure it's animation (not during fights) was pretty dicey, but it was still pretty fun to watch. I hope y'all keep watching it.

Also, the fanfiction is unironiaclly better than the later seasons.
I used to like this show but after volume 4 i started tuning out more often and just would watch clips of what happened. After Monty Oum passed away (shows creator) the show kinda goes all over the place in terms of the characters and general story. It's really sad because you can tell Monty Oum put a lot of thought into RWBY besides the references, it had decent world building and the fight choreography was amazing. Sadly Monty Oum passed away due to a allergic reaction during a medical procedure at his doctors. Which is incredibly sad because I bet if Monty Oum were still alive he would have risen in the world of American 3D animation and would have gotten his own studio eventually.

That's because people at like Monty is a heavy genius. I love Monty Oum but people need to keep in mind he's not the best at writing, he's only the best at animating and choreography. I like the first two volumes and I notice they were some disappointments, and most people don't talk about it because you know... Monty.

RWBY is pretty bad overall, especially it’s plot and characters at points. It’s animation can go down the toilet a lot of the time. But when you watch it, it has moments and qualities that make you come back for more like a drug. (Can ‘t say the same for the most recent seasons)
there's always that one hype scene every few episodes that keeps you hooked until the next one comes up

There is no volume 4-8 it's just 1-2-3 then the show ends on a massive cliffhanger like a typical anime and is getting picked up with ice queendom. That's my headcannon and i'm glad that it's this way

My heart will never recover from the pain of this show going as South as it did after season 3-4.
I was actually so into this show i would rewatch every volume everytime a new one would come out, just to be able to pick up on any hidden plot details that may have been set up before hand.
Until volume 6 that is, I couldn't take it anymore after that for various reasons, at this point I would see the volumes after all the episodes were out because I was in to deep to stop.

Volume 1-3 are some of my favorites shows, despite the massive, MASSIVE issues contained in them. It's like they are my children, then volume 4 is like my step son, season 5 is my step cousin, and volume 6 onward is like Joe from the alley who you can't tell if is on Crack, Meth, both, or is just a figment of your broken psyche after the accident.
They're bad, what I'm saying is they're bad.

RWBY inspired me to want to become an animator because it started out as a passion project of Monty Oum. I was about 12 yrs old and RWBY used to be my favourite thing in the world, until everything else that happened before V3 ended because it wasn't the same anymore. It was hard letting it go but we all need to just keep moving forward, y'know?

I forced myself to watch until my favourite character died, Adam Taurus, and made the decision that this show really have no direction and weak writing. Really threw me in 5 stages of grief kind of deal lol

Honestly, I’m just watching this show to get to the end, I’ve wasted so much time on this show and it’s lore that I just can’t leave it. I love watching reviews and podcasts, I love it but I also hate it. It’s just the show is stuck in this cycle of the finales being horrible, the middle being good, and the beginning being alright.

I will say this, the music was killer, the video games and the Unofficial ttrpg were pretty lit.
I like the early music, before it seemed like the soundtrack was just the same 2 songs endlessly recycled. The video game started out as a fanmade project that they bought up and never actually tried to improve on, the whole thing is like 3 levels with like 3 enemies, and every character has the exact same 3 voice lines for every action which you basically spam to clear a wave. Quality that's acceptable from one guy in his basement making it in his spare time to be a fan game, but comes across as lazy as hell for an official game. Heck, most souless cash grab movie video games end to have a bit more content than Grimm Eclipse, this is like the early era of PC games where I'd expect it to come on a CD included with a box of cereal.

@@SpillingTheMilk I recommend going into volume 1-3 with good spirits, since despite the choppy animation it's very good! Volume 4 is when you wanna start being a BIT more careful while viewing in order to see the decline. But that's just me lol. Love your guy's stuff, sorry I went on like this.
I recommend giving season 5 and the later seasons a chance. They aren't as bad as people make them out to be.
