    This is EXACTLY what I've been searching for, thank you! There is a paid pre-built configuration for Ableton that I've come across, which is great and looks slick; but for me the setup is half the fun, so I've been unable to justify paying for someone else to do it.

      I agree 100%. Whether it’s a custom PC, racks to hold audio gear, acoustic panels / clouds, studio desk, and the list studio goes on…, DIY is all about learning and having some fun while doing it (saving some cash never hurts). Glad I could help get you started on your Ableton controller project!

    Thanks for this exactly what I was looking for. I have the 15 deck but a lot of the paid buttons give functionality that’s on my cc121 and my o1v96i so I wanted to set up my deck to specifically control the things I really need to speed up my workflow and now thanks to you, I can. Much appreciated.

      I bought a stream deck xl and followed your tutorial however the Mackie controls that appear under DAW that I set to cubase didn’t have anything I needed in it. I felt cubase had a lot more than this surely but I couldn’t find any way to expand them. for example I wanted to set a button for punch in at cursor and another equivalent for out at curser but nothing available. I have all the transport stuff on my cc121 so I was looking for deeper settings.
      I had to set the whole thing up using key commands which I feel made all the midi thing pointless for me. I can’t understand if I’ve missed something so any light you could shed would be appreciated. It is working brilliantly with the key commands though I just used multi action if I needed extra like the punch in a command activates punch in and a second punch at cursor and now one button push punches in at the cursor. Thanks again.

In my workflow I use the SD for additional toggle buttons and my FaderPort 16 for mixing levels and automation, but I hope the variety of options available on the SD will help everyone out.

      Thanks! At this point there are only the 8 channels plus the master channel. If you setup the "selected channel" that will technically give you another channel if you select a channel other than the primary 8 channels. Already found the solution. In case someone is experimenting the same thing, here is the solution:
      Sometimes, the Stream Deck software fails to uninstall the plugin. When this happens, the plugin folder is left in an unusable (but not empty) state, causing subsequence installations to fail.
      To fix the situation, you must manually delete what's left of the plugin folder.
      Quit the Stream Deck software.
      Delete the plugin folder.
      Windows: "%appdata%\Elgato\StreamDeck\Plugins\se.trevligaspel.midi.sdPlugin"
      macOS: "~/Library/Application Support/com.elgato.StreamDeck/Plugins/se.trevligaspel.midi.sdPlugin"
      Restart Stream Deck.

The problem I have is getting live feedback to the streamdeck to update data. AKA: As you move the knob, you get a cc number going up and down or such on the StreamDeck itself. :( To much a noob for this I guess.

Since Protools does not support Mackie Control, you won't be able to use those functions, but the other functions (control change, program change, note, etc. should work. Specific configuration in Peripherals is not required (again, no Mackie support to setup). You can then use the MIDI learn function to map the controls as you need them. @askdrtk  2 года назад +1

      Hello and great question! It varies with each DAW, but generally you can setup macros for each of your plugins and then assign the controls to hotkeys. Mackie Control functions such as faders will often work with pots within VSTs, but it does vary from plugin to plugin. If you use the macro approach, you can setup the macro to first switch to the an open plugin before sending the command, that way you don't have to worry about clicking on another channel while a plugin is still open on another. There can however be issues with some plugins being open simultaneously if you have assigned some of the same controls to each plugin. I will be doing a tutorial for this using Studio One and a few popular plugins.

      To setup IAC:
      1. Double click the IAC Driver icon and enable it (check "Device is Online").
      2. Click the "+" twice to add two ports. Then rename them "Mackie2DAW" and "DAW2Mackie" (the same names I used with loopMIDI on Windows).

    Thanks for your video. I have followed all steps, and i stuck. I am trying to setup Logic Pro. Whenever i hit play on my stream deck - works for a sec and then logic is glitching along with stream deck. Any idea what cause that?

      Thanks! When you first started Logic after setting up the Stream Deck, did it detect it and ask if you wanted to use it as a controller? If it did, did you select Auto Assign? There can be some issues with Logic Pro and generic controllers. Most can be corrected in the Control Surfaces Setup menu under Device Parameters. I would suggest manually setting up "play" in Device Parameters to see if this corrects the issue as sometimes auto setup can have issues with generic MIDI controllers. You may need to do this for some other function as well. If this doesn't solve the issue, you could also go intro Audio MIDI setup (MacOS) and delete the floating controller and then reboot. It should repopulate. Then go back into Logic and test the controls. Hope this helps and let me know how things go.

      Thanks for the video. I've been trying to replicate this (and asked a buddy to try as well) and the play transport is working fine on my end. When I looked at the playback glitch in your video it reminded me of the bug in version 10.5.0 that played like a very short loop. At the time, we fixed it by going back to 10.4.8 (High Sierra) but it later seemed to be fixed after the 10.5.1 update. Just a thought, but what version are you running?

    When a program does not have a close shortcut key typically alt+F4 will close the active program. BUT using the 'open' call to make a program come to the front will either open another instance of the program or after closing will reopen the program.
    Is there a work around for programs that don't have a short cut to close?

    • @askdrtk
      @askdrtk  2 года назад

      Great question, and there is! I create a batch file with one command in it. To do this:
      1. Open Notepad.
      2. Type : taskkill /im "filename.exe" /t /f (where filename.exe is the application you want to close)
      3. Save the file as whatever name you like and include ".bat" as the extension. Make sure you save it where it won't get deleted by accident.
      You can then run your new batch file from the Stream Deck which will close the app and all of its child processes.
      Hope this helps out!

    hi! can you add a vst on a selected bus with this?

    • @askdrtk
      @askdrtk  2 года назад +1

      Great question! It depends on your DAW, but in Studio One I create a keyboard shortcut and then assign a hotkey to a button on the Stream Deck using "multifunction" - open app, and then the hotkey. That way I don't have to worry if Studio One is not the active window for some reason. Hope this helps out!

    • @MatBlakred
      @MatBlakred 2 года назад

      @@askdrtk I see that for the multi fonction, i answer the presonus team and i have only one solution with the macro fonction 😆 but with FL it's possible with the F8 menu 😊

    • @askdrtk
      @askdrtk  2 года назад

      Yes, macro in Studio One, but they are fairly simple to setup.
      1. Open Macro Organizer and choose "New."
      2. Give it a Name "Insert 1176" for example.
      3. add the command "Add Insert to Selected Channels."
      4. Choose "Edit."
      5. Select "device" and then choose the VST (and even a preset if your wish) from the drop down menu. Then press OK.
      6. Add the "Show Channel Editor" command.
      7. Choose OK.
      8. Go in to "Hotkeys" and assign whichever hotkey you like to the macro just created.
      That's it for Studio One. Then you can set it up on the Stream Deck.
      I have done this for the plugins I use all the time and it saves me a lot of work.
      Or use FL Studio FE...lol😄

      I agree, I can't give up my faders and dials (I use a hybrid setup in my shared studio space and a FP16 in my RUclips space). I like the Stream Deck for its customizable integration across many platforms including DAWs. It improves my workflow considerably. Thanks for checking out my setup video.

      The Stream Deck plugin setup on Mac works the same way, but loopMIDI is not required as OSX has virtual MIDI ports built in. To setup MIDI on Mac:
      1. Launch "Audio MIDI Setup" from Applications - Utilities.
      2. Open the MIDI Studio window.
      3. Double click the IAC Driver icon and enable it (check "Device is Online").
      4. Click the "+" twice to add two ports. Then rename them "Mackie2DAW" and "DAW2Mackie" (the same names I used with loopMIDI on Windows).
      After the ports are setup, you can continue with the Stream Deck plugin setup (as in the video). Thanks for the question and I hope this helps out!

    That's awesome! As a S1 user, I need to get a Stream Deck now.
    Question, is there a way to add plugins to a selected track like the guy does for Ableton in this video? @1:00 ... ruclips.net/video/vI5KQWFDxIo/видео.html

    • @askdrtk
      @askdrtk  Год назад +1

      Yes, but it works a bit different in S1. To add a specific plugin you need to create a macro to add the plugin and then assign a hotkey to the macro. Then add the hotkey to the Stream Deck and you are good to go. Setup as many plugin-add macros / hotkeys as you like and create a page with plugin icons on the Stream Deck… Hope this helps out!

    Seriously, if you like DAW buy real Mackie control or a Berringer with motor feedback faders like BCF or BCR controller that are so cheap on ebay. Then you will have something really useful and not a gadget.

    • @askdrtk
      @askdrtk  Год назад

      The main idea here is for the many that already have a Stream Deck, you can add some additional remote control to your DAW with spending extra money. Yes, motorized faders are great (use my Faderport 16 all the time and have had a few others), but I still find having additional buttons for quick access to macros , etc is nice to have in my workflow (and I already had and use the Stream Deck for other applications). If someone was looking to purchase a controller specifically for a DAW, their are superior purpose-build options.
