Thanks Daniel! It looks like another great full-featured lighting tool that we will be adding to our kit! I appreciate their innovative engineering and build quality, and allowing us to use all of our existing modifiers with it. I look forward to testing it soon! (also looking forward to saying hello again during Photo+ Expo, Daniel!)
Good first look. I like that they allow the battery to charge and work in the studio. I'm guessing these are not interchangeable with B1 & B1X? If that is correct, that's a shame.
Great concept.one A1 and two B10 way to go for run and gun style. Godox and Profoto have the best eco system available. Hope this pushes Godox to inprove the AD200. Competition is good.
Hi Daniel! I am looking to get some portable new flash equipment! I have hired pro foto before and LIKED them! The one thing that really annoyed me was the fact when you change the power value of the flash it beeps, but does not show the power change on the remote transceiver attached to the hotshot mount of the camera, apparently all pro foto lights do this. For the money I find this really odd that if I say alter the power from 2 up to 4 it does change it on the light itself but on the camera transceiver it does not??? Have they altered this now if not why does it not show the power out put on the remote screen, seems counter productive when you is the flash at distance and you do not want to be walking over to the unit to check it has changed!
I just bought the B1x recently with free remote. I wanted to buy the (2) but ended up getting single kit. Would you add two of these or just get another B1x? Some of new features are nice but less power.
Killed it. Great video. Now I'm torn between the B10 & B2. Borrowing some lights this weekend because I think I want to take up portrait photography. Look forward to more videos.
great video on the b10 lovely piece of kit wish I was in a position to get a couple of these they would certainly suit my photo and video work -its outside my budget but i like hearing about new lights and capabilities - for now I will continue on with my budget speedlights and leds
Thats a fantastic light, I can say this is the best compatible flash I tested it ever, its the new generation of Profoto lights system, I wish if they made the program for controlling the light do a flashing also, but maybe with the new update they will make it, thanks for your great review.
Marisa Hype! :D also, cute little thing that flash is... unfortunately that Adorama link doesnt work (yet?). will have to find it manually i guess to learn about the specs.
Ok so what is the make model brand of that boom stick your using? I have one that I use with my B2's that i thought would be good based on the high price but they fail. The one your using in this video looks solid.
Good for you but what does that comment have to do with this video? I am not sure who is worst, Sony fanboys or Godox fanboys unless you are a Sony/Godox fanboy.
I could see adding this as my first Profoto light to supplement my two Canon speedlites. How would the Profoto light control system work in concert with Canon 600 EX-RT II speedlites? I'm slowly acquiring the gear I want to shoot on-location portraits as a supplement income in retirement from my primary profession. I don't expect to make a living with photography so I don't want to go overboard and buy a full studio setup. This is intriguing.
I will definitely buy 3 of them for my wedding work. But charging them while in use will destroy the battery pretty fast. It was already a possibility on the B2. Never used that feature for this reason.
Good to know that little snippet Daniel! I think these modern battery packs of the last year or two have a LOT better tech in them than the older gear by the sounds of it!! Elinchrom now also offer "Charging while in use" on their 2 current modern evolutions (of the older Quadra packs), the ELB 400 and the ELB 500.
@@DanielNortonPhotographer Well it makes me feel good for sure not spending like triple the money on basically the same. If you don't care about cost efficiency as a professional photographer maybe you should check your priorities 😘 If nobody cares about gear, what's the point of the video anyways?
ITS 250watts at full power. same as the flashpoint / godox ad200. so you will be paying extra for the continuous light feature, the white balance adjustment , and the bluetooth function..
Looks like i'm going to have to start saving my penny's but between all the new mirrorless cameras, lenses and now a new Profoto light I don't think there will ever be enough penny's! But it does look like a great light and would be perfect for my needs.
Nice photos and undoutably a good light, I do feel though this in response to the impact of another brand who are making big strides in this area at a much cheaper price.
And for just the low low prize of 1500usd? Looks to me that they feel the preasure from godox because this is more or less the same form factor as the ad200 with the new round head.
@@DanielNortonPhotographer lol. Because bmw actually builds better cars. Godox pro series is the same at a third of the price. Bad comparison. Profoto definitely looses market share to godox, no arguing against it.
I use my B2 90% of the time over the B1 in shoots like in this video. The B10 would be even better without the pack. I wonder what the weight difference is between the B2 head and the B10?
I thought the B2 being a 'Pack and Head' style was better as you can use the pack as a stand weight, and to keep the centre of gravity much lower too, no? And if not on stands, and just carrying it, slinging it over your shoulder is less weight that you have to bear with your outstretched arms, no?
Wow that is cool a few years ago this type of lights was called a flash, as it runs on battery's Now with a LED model light and other such power saving features. It is a studio quality, and powerful light. It can be used in Studio or on location without the power packs, wires and a portable generator of days past.
I love the portability and the app feature. But at the end of the day, it's not a cost effective swap for photographers who are already invested in a lighting system. What do you think the best use cases will be for the A1, the B2 and the B10? The B10 appears to be so small, and it is more powerful than the B2, I am curious if you think the B2 still would be a better choice in some situations, and if so, which one(s)?
Daniel Norton Photographer I just saw the ‘Before You Buy the Profoto B10’ video you and Seth did that pretty much answered my questions. Keep up the informative videos!
I might consider buying it for my Sony A7 instead of buying a camera flash and Wireless Radio Commander. Is excited about what the price will be. Unfortunately, I can not wish it for a gift from my wife for my 50th birthday November 21st She has given me a trip to the United States :-) This is the first time I come to the United States I'm going on my very first trip to us with my wife and her son at the age of 16 in October 7 to 24. yes, looks promising as a first profoto light, but wished that a stand was included in the kit, along with the rest of it, maybe a trigger as well??, Maybe a video, showing say a Phase One camera, NOT dslr's, or mirror-less cameras all the time :-( , as I am interested in a light solution around this Medium format system, not the small format.
I am disappointed that flash companies have not gone to a shared key architecture for their radios (wifi uses this), it would eliminate most of the problems with misfires in areas with dense RF or multiple groups shooting within a few hundred feet of each other.
These lights are for those phographers out there that are making a substantial amount of Money, The Profoto B10 lights aren't toys to play with, they are working tools for those who make a living taking pictures.
What? That makes no sense! Is it expensive because it has resale value... or maybe it has resale value because it is so expensive? The video capable modeling light is the main innovation... but considering it costs almosts three times the price of a Godox AD400Pro, I don't think we'll see these flying off the shelves. You can actually buy an AD600 and AD400 Pro for the price of just one of these! Only way to justify buying the Profoto is: a) you're a seasoned pro with plenty of clients paying premium prices and already use other Profoto gear; b) maybe if you travel A LOT and can benefit from having a strobe and continuous light in the same unit. You can almost buy the whole Witstro range for the price of one of these: Profoto B10 250Ws $ 1600; Godox AD600 and AD400Pro totals $1400, and you can add the AD200 to this system for just $300. Think about it: Profoto can be rented all over the world. You could actually take an AD400Pro with the Profoto adapter when travelling, and still have the whole range of Profoto light modifiers available!
Leonardo Rodrigues hard to argue your points. I shoot AD600PRO no complaints at all. Profoto; is it well built, sure. Is it versatile, sure. Is it portable, sure. Is it powerful and feature laden, sure. Is there stiff competition from Flashpoint, absolutely. Besides big time pro's and demanding clients, the rest of us photogs can succeed with Flashpoint/Godox systems and have left over money for more equipment. Not knocking Profoto, just saying that Flashpoint changed the game. Value can never be a dead concept when hard earned money is counted on to feed and shelter your family. Kudos to Profoto engineers. Big props to Flashpoint to help us bottom feeders create and satisfy clients who respect the work we put forth. Always remember ladies and gents, avoid GAS and KISS are long term concepts.
I'm Sorry to say this Profoto is taking us for a ride and is not a joy ride, they just add Bluetooth B2 still better option and B1 Why would someone buy this light?
its only ok if you are already invested in ProFoto, they had to know this. I doubt its aimed at most working professionals doing weddings etc even . Niche market only.
too too expensive crazy $1.500 that thing is the new a7s III camera with IBIS and 2 cards beating canon and nikon. viva Godox forever............. . no one will make me buy this crap
Ha, ha. Like all the features of this flash. But I enjoy them already for about 2 years with my Godox AD200's. For the price of one B10 I can buy around 4 a 5 AD200's.
Wouldnt be nice if you had any of these you tubers say "Profoto has a new light it is ok but!!!! and the two light kit but it cost $4000 and I am sorry but it is just not worth the money" Wouldnt that be a fun change.. notice money was not mentioned once......
The idea of using it for video is nice or making it easier for your lenses to focus in low light. Profoto should have priced it much lower. Great video as always David & of course never a bad vid with Melissa in it ;-)
Marisa is photographically perfect. Great images Daniel.

What is the bag that Daniel is wearing to carry the B10?

UK price is £1410.00. My recommendation is to buy the Godox AD400pro for about £600-£700. 400 watt and you can add a profoto mount.
I am a long time D1 user, but when I need to buy additional lighting, I will definitely choose the B10. Thanks Daniel for a great review!
For $1,500 that thing better have two memory card slots.

I like it! Are the constant lights stronger than Rotolight small?
did you just use the regular tripod screw that a camera or telephoto lens would screw into on the gorrilla pod or a strobe type connector?
Terry Stahly regular 1/4 -20 screw. Like a camera
Nice. That tool looks useful. In this days of high iso cameras it’s maybe all what you need.

Dan Browning it will not mix with the Canon’s TTL, you’d have to use it as an optical slave until you move completely into the Profoto line
I would replace Canon Speedlights for B10. Small, Portable and more powerful then 600s
I will definitely buy 3 of them for my wedding work.
But charging them while in use will destroy the battery pretty fast. It was already a possibility on the B2. Never used that feature for this reason.

This review was top notch! Really sold me on the b10.
Color of your model from this shoot is do beautiful. Is it light or is it post processing? You are the best in tracking lighting.
would you recommend the B10 over the B1X for on location lighting?
ThreeDee for fashion/advertising, probably not. For portrait/wedding probably.
It is the light for me.
very beautiful model and great shot in wood
to expensive if you want 3 of them for full studio cover outdoor
Perfect!
Thanks for this. Makes me feel better about my Godox AD200 for a fraction of the cost. 😜

3 thumbs up
Ha, ha. Like all the features of this flash. But I enjoy them already for about 2 years with my Godox AD200's. For the price of one B10 I can buy around 4 a 5 AD200's.
Add 60 for the Godox remote and 500 for the profoto remote :)
what’s her instagram?
@marisa.roper :)
Wouldnt be nice if you had any of these you tubers say "Profoto has a new light it is ok but!!!! and the two light kit but it cost $4000 and I am sorry but it is just not worth the money" Wouldnt that be a fun change.. notice money was not mentioned once......
Maybe 700 bucks should be the right price for this product.....
Great video! Definetely want a couple of these to compliment my B1 & B2 heads!

The idea of using it for video is nice or making it easier for your lenses to focus in low light. Profoto should have priced it much lower. Great video as always David & of course never a bad vid with Melissa in it ;-)
