If I were to do a self portrait I think I will try using that S-65 soft box because I have never used that size before. I think those black and white images were incredible and the light is so sharp. I love the light of my AD-200s too and would love to try using that soft box with my AD-600.

Have been a Godox user since the beginning and coincidentally I just shot a self portrait using XPro C TTL, S2 Bowens, 60x90 Softbox, TT685C Speedlight and SL-100D. Why? Reliability. Dependable syncing between XProC and TT685C speedlight, beautiful soft light from the 60x90 Godox softbox having inner and outer baffles with grid while being mounted to the durable S2 Bowens. The SL-100D is not only reliable, it's also convenient that it can be controlled through the mobile app so shooting self portraits won't be as hard as it normally would.
How was the result? Well, I didn't end up looking as gorgeous as Sarah but almost there. lol

Hello Sarah, your video was very inspiring. I actually tried doing a self portrait session last Friday, April 28. I had a hard time getting the image the way I wanted it and a hard time getting the image to focused. I did manage to come out with one very good image of myself. My wife was very impressed with the picture. The Godox flash that I used was the Wistro AD360II for Nikon attached to a soft box. The setup was very easy. I also have the Good V1 for Nikon, but I wanted the extra power of the AD360. Though it was my first time trying self portrait, I did learn a lot and can't wait to try it again. Be safe.

I agree with you Zarah, the self-portrait is a good practice for the photographer, because it helps us to direct people in a better way, to have that sensation of being in front of the camera and to feel the same thing that people feel when they are photographed. change vision. He used the Ad300 pro and the V1, I think it's a good combination for this opportunity, because of the versatility it gives, especially the ad300 that has just enough power and doesn't limit me from doing a good job. It is an inspiration that you give Zarah, congratulations!!! and thanks for the video.

I've been wanting to do a self portrait shoot since it has been decades since I have any proper portraits of myself. I am keen on doing a low key half body head shot session and a one light source would be my choice, maybe an AD200 with a gridded strip box. Who knows what I'll think of next.

Thank you for a very polished presentation and for showing us your excellent results! My biggest challenge in trying self-portraits had always been inventing poses for myself… had not thought of tethering to a video monitor, so definitely will have to give that a try! Thought: for some future presentation it would be very helpful to suggest substitutes for V-flats… they're very versatile but not very portable, as everything I use has to fit into the back of my Honda Jazz to go to locations…

  • @Joesphotography

If I was shooting a self portrait. I be using my Godox 180 and ad 300 cause they work great together and with x2pro trigger they work even better. I use them to give me a fun look. with the ad 300 to the left of the camera with the godox ads60 soft box on it. High and point down and then use the ad 180 with softbox as small fill in which to fill in some of my shadow but keeping . I find that both of these work great with everyone .. Then I would even take them both but swaping out the ad 300 softbox and put is in the s1 braket and add my light blaster to give a fun change in the background that fits the nerd in my self. I love both of these flash for the light weight and abilty to be a small foot prints and they work so well together.

Hello Sara Madam, grateful for your video for self portraiture. Based on the knowledge gained from your honor, I would prefer to use a Godox Beauty Dish, Godox Octa softbox, Godox vertical soft box with strips, Godox Parabolic reflector for the model and Godox V1 flashes for background and rim lighting, Godox Ak-R 1accesory kit. As far as lighting is concern, I have Godox AD200 pro, and V 1 flashes, but need to add AD 600 pro as a main key light for portraits. Other accessories, like silver reflectors, black and white soft boards are must.

Thank you so much! My tip is to imagine the lens like someone you really trust and who loves you unconditionally, thinks you are absolutely incredible… then in privacy you can try to open up with your new best friend/lover aka the lens, using your eyes and body language to communicate. Remember that no one need ever see the pictures if you don’t want them to, so you can be free. And then when you look at the pictures, be kind and forgiving to yourself as you would if you were looking at pictures of your child.

I have longed for a set of AD200s over the years but currently any self portrait shoots I do are with my TT685c speedlight. • @sarahedmunds

Without the facial recognition it's definitely harder... without I'd prefocus manually on a spot using a lightstand or person to stand in for me, then stand on the same spot. And I'd use a smaller aperture and more light power so the depth of field can cope with any movements off the focus point. I should add that even with the face tracking, I got more out of focus shots than usual. Self-portraits are hard!

Loved this episode Sarah!! I have the Godox lantern and I adore it’s soft light…I would definitely use that light for my “over 50”
skin, along with my favorite Godox light, my AD200Pro ;)

Isn't the lantern great? Thank you for your lovely comment x

If I were to do a self portrait shoot, I’d use the AD600 pro. I’d do a outdoor portrait during sunset. The AD600 would be great to over power the sun. I like the AD series because it’s wireless.

Great video! I would use my AD200Pro for my keylight because I can change the head. The bare bulb fills in better the light modifier. For hair-, rim- or background lights I would use my TT685 or TT685II. They are reliable, inexpensive and I can afford multiple of them. I am only a hobbyist.

What are you using to trigger the camera? I have all the Godox gear but now I have to use the timer....I want something to put in my hand so I can sort of flow with different shots once I get my lighting and focus setup.

I'd use a combination of V1`s to accentuate different things using the grid and snoot from the AK-R1 kit, as well as use a more powerful AD300/400 as key light in a parabolic with grid as a main light to feather light from above.

I’d use either the AD300 or the AD200 or a combination of both. They’re lightweight, portable, and they always, always work when I need them.

For a self portrait I would use my AD200 with the 36" octabox for the key light and my v1 with the grid for the rim light. I find this to work well.

My favourite Godox equipment for a self portrait are the octabox 120cm with two AD200 Pro mounted on an AD-B2 .

Well, I don’t need to make myself look beautiful even if that was possible, so I would probably go for a snapshot aesthetic deer in the headlights look with a Lux Junior on top of my Holga.

For a self portrait session like this I would like to use the Godox Soft Lantern. I like the soft light and spread it creates and intend to add one to my gear soon.

I would use two 300's. Those are good for high key shoots

I would use my Godox X Pro N on my Nikon D750 DSLR with my two Godox TT685 N as off-camera flash units on portable light stands. One in my Godox softbox and one behind me with a Godox reflector and colour gel aimed at a wall or pop-up background.

For a self portrait I would start with the older AD600 that I have because of the modeling light. It would help me get setup and provide enough ambient light to get my scene ready and halfway there before testing the flash power.
