I’m pretty stoked about the depth and abilities of this lineup now. You could even tell Luka was fired up playing with these guys. Pjs athleticism over grant was sooo obvious.

Both Gafford and Washington were such seamless fits in their very first games with the Mavs after just arriving to Dallas and dealing with this whole process and media. It's incredible. Shoutout to PJ for being able to pump fake, drive to the basket and get a floater or layup. If that was Grant, he would have traveled after the pumpfake or got stripped.

Gafford is who we thought he was as was PJ. The fact that it looked so natural is crazy. The mavs have a legit team finally. All of the pieces finally fit together.
You hit the nail on its head. When we smoked the Suns in 7, Luka got to show off why he's the league's best offensive maestro: he is a bona fide triple threat. Sag on defense by putting a big in his way? Step back three. Tight man coverage? He will get to his spot, pivot to get you on his hip, do that thing where he feels you out as he sizes up whether to pass or keep driving, then literally screens you out of the play. And don't even think about throwing a smaller mismatch at him that he can bully in the post, or a help defender so he can make a bullet pass as one of the great playmakers in the league.
Well, now, a propos to the way Luka can carve a defense, the entire lineup is equipped to abuse what opponents will throw our way. Turn the game into ISO man coverage? We have two of the best 1v1 talents in the world. Cover the in-n-out two man game? We have cutters. Zone out the cutting lanes? We have some dawgs to attack the close-out or swing the pocket pass for open threes when that's the concession. Given good health, I think it's finally time for Luka to ride in with some heavy hitters and make noise. The league is on notice now.

Maxi had an unsung double-double with 12pts and 12 rebounds, but i feel alot of that is cause he's not the biggest on court so they cant lock on on him while Luka/Kai/Gafford are around.
Maxi has been player GREAT since he came back from injury. Seeing how everyone wanted him traded before the deadline, I don’t think he’s gotten enough respect. I’m really interested to see what a lineup with him and Lively or Gafford looks like- that kind of size is going to help against teams like MIN and LAL
Maxi has always been great. But becouse we didn't had back up center, Kidd was playing him as a center...
Now everything changes because Maxi can actually focus on being a rotation PF and will only play Centre occasionally. These trades also now make it easier for players like Josh Green as well, they really needed this help.

To me , Maxi has BB IQ and more easily collaborate with Luka and has decent defense

Tbh, I don't care who starts or who ends the game. What I'll do with the centers is just split the minutes between them, and whoever plays the best on whatever given night gets to play more 🤷♂️
Lively is an amazing rookie, but he still has things to learn, and now it's very luxurious to have talent like Gafford because now the Mavs are not desperate to have Lively constantly on the floor.
PJ, was very solid today. I like him. He can definitely do better but I like what he showed today. I think he was nervous at the beginning but settled down later, and I think he will be better later on down the season and he still young, so he can still improve.

The key was looking for paint points, not more 3s, balanced offense worked wonders. And increased paint D and rebounding filled in at the same time, wow.

I think the Mavs' defense looked amazing for most of tonight's game! And now when they don't score a 3-pointer, they can score inside in so many more ways, so they will not blow big leads.
PJ is such a drive threat that his 3 ball doesn't need to be phenomenal; just respectable enough to force closeouts and he will be productive offensively.
One thing I've thought about is how aggressive Lively and Gafford can be not worrying about their fouls. The league is in trouble

Maxi playing good defense and attacking and hitting shots is a big part of this. They built the 1st quarter lead with him out there. The shots wont always fall but if he plays this aggressive and stays healthy we got a shot
Its going to be so nice to get defensive stops and rebounds consistently against big physical athletic teams, we cant get pushed around anymore

He has to have the most hits in the face per minute in NBA history. It's crazy. That's why I respect the dude despite his shortcomings.
He can play garbage minutes. He can feel free to improve if he wants more minutes
I have a theory on th mavs players being hit in th face. The nba doesn't call over the back. The mavs were very undersized. When facing an undersized team th opposition recklessly attacks th offensive glass. They don't care if they're jumping on top of someone or over th back or hitting some1 in th face because it rarely gets called. Resulting in lots of hits in th face lots of reckless over th back madness. 🤕 just a theory?
One thing that stood out to me in this game was seeing Gafford get excited and start screaming and flexing after one basket he made. I loved it.
I called it right after the game. Gafford might be the new starter over Lively. Lively has had a great rookie season and will be great in the future, but Gafford just seems to already have what we are expecting from Lively in a couple years.
Lively has played too good to lose his job to an injury

Nick, regarding good Mavs performances in the afternoon games, you must understand that this game was broadcast live on a widely available network (and not a pay-for sports channel) at 9pm local time in Slovenia, so practically the whole Slovenian nation was glued to the screen, cheering for the Mavs. I am certain tha Luka is well aware that the whole homeland is watching him live on every early afternoon game, especially if the game is available on a regular nation-wide channel, and boy he will fight fiercely like a tiger - and drag the whole team along whenever the early afternoon game comes around. I love Lively a lot. However, I wouldn't be surprised if Gafford gives Lively a run for his money at the starting position. Lively is still very young and needs some seasoning. Also, if he only had to split minutes with Gafford, it hopefully saves him some wear and tear. I haven't seen a lot of rookies miss this much time with injuries. I hope he gets healthier, and that our two centers get it.
