Clay I was at Milan that day. I remember praying please God no fire! Once you stopped with no fire, I knew you were ok. The fact that you kept it together and were able to shut it down while taking flight shows your true professionalism. As John Force once said "bitchin huh?"😂
i was a lil baby when i seen this and i somehow still remember it. was one helluva day for good ol' Clay
Gotta remember he makes it seem like this was going on for 1-2 minutes… nah haha! Talk about instinct and composure
@@revolutionaerialsystemsbnb6175 when you are at 200mph your brain functions a little faster to make up for it....
I was standing on the fence on the right side about 2/3 of the way down he was already over when he came past me. All I remember saying to myself is I hope I'm not watching somebody die
@@revolutionaerialsystemsbnb6175
If I could add, when I raced, I'd write everything down after each pass, to reread and better myself. But the mind can remember down to the millisecond of what goes on. My passes would take 12 seconds, but sometimes I could write pages. And once you win on raceday, it's the best feeling in the world, makes it all worth it.
"You can't park there sir!"
😁😁
As someone who has been vertical in a car before, you saying that it was the quietest moment in your life hit home. Perfect description
I agree 💯 definitely an eye opener and for that second or so give or take was probably the most at peace I had or ever have been in my life as crazy as that but I'm sure glad that clay made it out okay because now he is my favorite top fuel driver of all time
Love the Jimmy Dale cameo
What a surprise hey, I never thought he was a singer!
Good to see he’s recovering well
Jimmy Dale 2024 VP for Trump.
@@johannviljoen64 Neither did he! 🤣🤣🤣
The most gentle top fuel flip over ever. All 4 wheels off the ground and settles on the wing . Y.O.T.L.P.
Making Drag Racing Great Again
Have you seen the Don Garlits blow over?
Couldn't agree more!
@@bobroberts2371 yeah Garlit’s car was destroyed.
@@randywebster1781 I'm speaking of the 1986 Englishtown one where it blew over and was pointing backwards while on the throttle to stop.
@@bobroberts2371 yeah that car had major chassis damage, they may have repaired it by front halfing it I’m not sure.
That is still one of the most iconic top fuel crashes ever…. I still remember getting home from school and watching idolizing you on speed channel…. Love the content man
Thank You 😊
Don't fib to us, I know you had the Sheriff who did the worlds wildest polices in your ear saying, "it wad at this moment, he knew he fucked up", I know that's what would have been going through my mind. Cracking job Clay. 🇬🇧
Clay doesn’t use language like that. He’s what we call a southern gentleman.
Jimmy Dale ... Let go
That's our home track, look how packed it was back then. Wish it could be that way again
This summer is looking pretty good for Milan..be sweet if they could get a national event again, though.
Place was rocking for the IHRA National Events
Scary then, but Awesome now. Clay WOW!!! As always thanks for taking us along
Glad you enjoyed it!!!
Glad you're still around to post this video!! Thanks Clay and best of luck to you and the team!!
Thanks, you too!
How can you NOT just love this guy? Always smiling as he narrates his brush with death.
As a new sub from the UK not having the pleasure to hear about you up until recently, thanks for sharing this video otherwise I'd probably have never seen it! Being an 80's kid I love the Dukes of Hazzard along with the A-Team and Knight rider. I wonder if you'd be screaming HELL YEAH BROTHER instead of YEE HAA lol. Whish you all the best for the future.
Thanks for tuning in !!!
Great video nice to see new additions to videos and the increasing subscribers. Your content was deserving of this since you started. Keep it up thank you
Thank you very much!
I remember that race.
Yeah, there was a lot of silence.
You've certainly had a wild ride Clay.
Glad you are still around to...
STOMPONTHATLOUDPEDAL!🤙
Always!
You guys killed it with the editing on this one. Wow. Clay you did a fantastic job telling this story.
I was at Milan as thats my home track that day as a 12 year old kid with my dad. I talked to you for about 15 minutes about how I wanted to be a top fuel mechanic in the pits just before this happened. I said a prayer for you and Ill never forget that time I got to talk you because you such a down to earth real cool cerasmatic person
Thanks for sharing Clay and I am so glad that was in your past and you didn't get hurt. That kind of reminded me of Larry Dixons crash several years ago and thankfully he walked away not hurt either.
You are the best! I love how you bring the fans into your world! We see these wrecks on TV or live at the track, but rarely do we get a full explanation of what happened. Keep it up you do an amazing job!
I like that your videos aren’t filled with profanity and they explain in detail what’s going on. Props to you.
Iv never been a top fuel guy. Just completely 100% outta my realm of positivitys. But iv seen you on pfi and quickly respected your personality, I actually have seen this crash before and didn't realize it was you. Glad you got out ok, id love to know about your days before top fuel and how you got to where your at. Be safe out there champion
This is my new favorite clay video. Thank you for just being you. It’s just right.
Wow, thank you!
The casual play by play of the 3/4 of a second it took to blow over shows Clay's brain works a little different than the average person. It would all be a blur to me..... I'm winning!!!! .... to instantly wondering how I ended up upside down. Good stuff!
You'd be surprised by what your brain can do. Hopefully you never have an adrenaline dump moment, but if you do you'll chase that shit for the rest of your life. It's like living through a movie scene. 😂
Thank You 😊
damn Clay we're getting old. I remember this like it was yesterday. Thanks for the inside the crash play by play. Let's get that NHRA championship trophy this year boys.
You and your team put on a great show recently in Florida 💯
Appreciate that!!!
Loved this video! Great story teller! Crazy story! Crazy crash sliding upside down and backwards for what must have seemed like an eternity!! 😮 Thanks for the detail and backstory 👍🏼
Thats what I call a LEGENDARY moment!
#legendary 🔥🔥🔥 Glad you still kicking ass!
If there ever was a scenario for a perfect blow over, this is it. As you said Clay, stepping off the loud pedal when you did made all the difference.
What amazes me though, people speak of F1 drivers having lightning fast reaction times, I think the drivers of these things are up there as well.
Who else can react to a situation that spans only milliseconds. The way Clay was describing the wheels lifting, this wasn't over several seconds, this is mere 10ths of a second. Mind blowing.
Glad you're safe n sound.
This, and just about every other Clay tells, is why I truly enjoy watching Clay and his team race. He is truly a gentleman and a great driver.
Thanks Clay for all you do for the sport we love! Tom/ Jimmy was an awesome touch at the end, Glad he's doing better! Kick a$$ at the Gator Nationals, You driving and the team at RWR everyone should take notice!
Tom/Jimmy is awesome 👏
Clay Millican is a Jimmy Daler too!!! Lol Clay i bet the movie stars loved the General Lee top fuel car taking flight!!!!
Thanks for sharing that clay I think I even remember watching that on TV way back when So glad it turned out the way it did and you were safe😊
Was there Clay and it sent fear down my spine. Sooooo glad you came out unscathed. Just for your info. You have put the spark back in my heart for NHRA drag racing after being gone for a while at the dirt tracks watching sprint cars. I have a short window dancing around my profession in Pro Hockey to enjoy my favorite sport of motor sports. You got me back 100%
Another awesome one Clay!!!!
Incredible Clay wasn't hurt! "YEHAWWW Jimmy Dale!!!" 🙂
Jimmy Dale cracks me up! I know that must have been a helluva ride. I've been upside down before but I wasn't okay after my truck came to a rest. The cop said I went end over end twice and barrel rolled three times before I came to rest on the other side of the highway. I remember kicking my door open because I thought I was on fire but it was the air bags. I broke my collar bone and got bruised up pretty good but I made it lol.
Such a good story teller, could listen to them all day!
Thanks for the insight Clay, scary stuff! Glad you made it out without injury 🙏🏽
Great video! Always wondered what you went through on that run. Thank you for that one. Take Care :)
Thanks, you too!
Clay you have a new fan here! your a class act brother, thanks for sharing the memory i will have to check out the 2024 schedule and tune in best of luck to you and your team
I grew up in Milan and forgot about this wreck. Glad you were not injured during that ride. Seems like it was a common occurrence back in the 80’s and up. I like the story time format, Thanks for sharing your experience with us, Clay.
That had to be one heck of a ride!
I saw somewhere a racecar flip when it slided couple hundred yards at its roof and the brakelights were on all of the time.🥵
Clay. You are a crazy SOB.
I love the way you were talking about that incident there and how you're narrating it and stuff. Bad ass
Now that is quite a video ! Many thanks Clay.
Never seen that crash before. Very wild and somehow elegant.
Great story Clay.
Blow over is another world.
Love ya. See you in Ennis Tx.
the best thing about this story is that you are still here to tell it
Hilarious overdubs, nicely done. Yeah, I grew up with that show, and it’s likely partially responsible for my love of racing. I grew up in the country, Main Street was paved and was the favourite spot to rip. As a matter of fact, so did my dad and his buds in the 50s. My dad used to talk about his quick push-button automatic with a grin.
Wow Clay. I remember this when it happened. Time flies. Glad to meet u and see ur still giving er.
Great story Clay thank you stay safe
Great story Clay. Give us more of that content. Hope to see you in Vegas.
Great story brother. Thanks for sharing.
Still to this day, when I see a Werner truck driving down the highway, I smile because of the great runs you had with them! Talk about great value for advertising!
Also, good on Jimmy for singing the tune. Made the video better than if the original would have not been blocked.
STOMP ON THAT LOUD PEDAL!!!!
I can remember you driving that car. Also remember seeing highlights of the flip. Funny thing is back then all of the Werner trucks were governed to 62mph.
I still look in at Werner trucks to see if I know the driver.
"YOUUU HAVE MADE A BOO BOO HERE"😂😂😂😂 i love you clay.
that has to be the worst, "gentlest" crash I've ever seen! You had a lot of things go right on that one Clay
Hi Clay I was at Mid Michigan dragway when you were looking at your first car. I was with George Szaski that night. Glad your doing well. Time sure does flyby. Good luck this year!
Cool video. Enjoyed watching ✌️ 😎
Incredible story Clay!
Great story, thanks for sharing with us
Love the play be play…they say that experience slows things down….your calm and awareness speaks to your experience and things slowing down…my guess is that a less experienced driver would have been lost in a blur of fear and emotions that would’ve prevented them from recalling the events let alone be calm enough to radio back that “I’m okay” not once…but TWICE 😮 YOU ROCK! Thank you for sharing
Ahhh that moment when all goes silent.... Been a while but glad you came out ok and have continued doing what you love.
Love ya Clay, such am awesome story and you were in control the whole time 😂
Nice one! The good Lord had his hand on that car that day! Awesome video brother. I love the cameo at the end with dukes song
Clay, you rock! Jimmy Dale can do it all, can't he😂. Peace
Great Video!
Glad that you came through ok.
Best of Luck To You, and the Team in 2024!
Jimmy Dale... Played A Mean Tune!
If that's the worst accident of your top fuel career, you've done very well. That was the most delicate blow over I think I've ever seen, and I've been watching drag racing for better than 30 years, and involved in it for over 10 years as a track official. Here's to many more safe passes, not just for you, but everyone involved in the sport we love so much.
Cheers, Ben @ Sydney Dragway.
This was such a cool video! What a story! You rock clay!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is your story and you're sticking to it!!! The Duke boys are proud of you!!! Wild ride but thankfully you were ok.
I watch one blow over in person in Gainesville at the 96or 97 gatornationals. Insane and driver was ok. Great story clay and so glad you had no injuries at all
Damn that’s one hell if a ride. Clay I enjoy your racing stories 👍
That was awesome! (Jimmy Dale too) thanks for sharing!
I remember you driving for Werner and saw highlights of the flip. Funny thing is, back then, Werner trucks were governed to 62 mph.
Brand new top fuel fan but i do race atv’s and i actually live in michigan and race at the milan track. Incredibly cool to see this. Keep up the great work clay❤️
man i was 8 years old when that happened, crazy to think about how ive watched your career my whole life, loved you from the beginning but it made it a million times better when you gave me a piston rod at the Brainerd nationals in 2013. youre the best Clay
That was an awesome flashback, I remeber watching the "General Lee" literally take flight!
I think my thought would be "just don't let any fuel come in contact with those zoomies", then you might have a problem.😂
Glad you were ok.😎👍
Love this kind of content @clay Millican if you could do some more videos like this covering you’re championship seasons in ihra that would be great! I know most of the day 1 fans like myself understand how good you were in the ihra. But I really don’t think the younger fans really know how good of a run you had. Absolute legend
Thank You !!!
I got caught off guard with the Jimmy Dale cameo. Nice!!
Now that's 1 hell of a ride brother 😮
Heck of a ride!! Glad it was a safe landing 😅
Yes it was!
That his story and he's sticking to it!
Awesome story Clay!
Jimmy Dale nailed it
Clay mentioned Brad in this. Brad Hadman is a guy that gets it done behind the scenes and has some serious experiance plus so many winning cars. Awesome guy.
Going airborne in a General Lee themed top fuel car is just so perfect. I have never seen a top fuel drag in person but after seeing you on Cleetus' channel, I immediately booked a friday off before the weekend of the first event I found near me. I can't wait.
Right on!
Clay, you’re amazing. The way you tell it. Haha. The part killed me that it was only when the cars rear tires were 4, 5 feet off the ground and all you could see was sky that you decided to abort the mission to beat the other guy. You can see it in the video. Knowing that, man you’re the best. 🤘🏻🤟🏻
clay is the real deal, and the jimmy dale spot was awesome
Clay I have to say that I have been following you for years and years you have been that guy I always rooted for I watched you the first time you went over 300 mph and I just wanted more I street race with 426 hemi in my 70 cuda here in Canada and I always wanted to meet you and shake your hand you have stones my friend I have gone as fast as 247 mph and there’s no feeling like once you hit over 200 in the quarter mile i just need to know how it feels to go over 300 I’m in my 60s now and will never know what it is like to go as fast as you ! Thank you for doing things that few others dream to do in there lives
What a wild ride that was! It's almost race season let's go clay!!🏁
I swear it looked like someone was watching over you that day, that could have been catastrophic and much more serious for you.
Glad you are still here racing and taking us along for the ride.
im not your age, and i LOVED (still do) dukes of hazzard. that show made me love the charger more than i already did. that show was too cool. im gonna be 29 soon. that show could make any young man happy.
It was at this moment he knew he muffed up! Lol!
In all seriousness though, Clay we're ALL glad you walked away🙏
Love ya Clay!🤙😝🤙
Thanks so much for sharing. Did you happen to win any more races with that chassis?
I was there it was my first top fuel event. It rained right before this and got so hot and humid. I was at the starting line and the fumes just hung in the air but I loved every minute of it 😂
LOL!! You got jimmy Dale singing old Waylon's Good old boy tune LOL!
As Clay is introducing the clip, he gets the 1000ft stare going, you know he has one that he wishes he could do again and again.
It’s always fun looking up at the road.
Take care n play safe.
Amazing how the milliseconds turn into hours in such a situation and you can clearly recall the multitude of thoughts that were going through your mind.
Had it happen a few times back in the day myself and it is some of the clearest and most surreal moments burned into the old memory banks.
That is just wild how it gently folded the wing down and landed softer than most commercial jet landings!! I was at Pomona in 92 when Jimmy Nix went over in the lights at 285mph and it looked like he drove into an F5 tornado. Wheels and parts went into orbit.
So glad you were okay would’ve never got too witness your legendary self now
I'm an Artist and painted Dixon's Georgia Airborne Severance SHOW, a few years back. Folks that see it, cannot believe it ... I tell em it happens to many Top Fuel Rodeo Professionals! I wish the NHRA would hand out broken wing badges for you guys to wear with honor!! YeeHaw or a Big Old Rodeo Belt Buckel.
Killed that song at the end. Sometimes it's best to just do it yourself.
Wild ride, remember seeing it on TV. Didn't know it didn't total that Hot Rod, lol! Thanx !
