I bought an AC-22LX not long after it was announced because I play small venues and wanted a more authentic acoustic guitar sound live. When playing at full volume, it’s loud enough and if you need any extra, it’s got a direct output so you can plug it into a mixer/DI. Plus the looper and rhythm section are perfect as I only perform as a one piece. If you’re performing as a one man band at small venues, I would highly recommend that you give the amp a chance if you see it in a music shop 🙌🏻
I have to say Lee’s comments were exactly what I was thinking - several of the presets sounded worse than the dry guitar .. maybe the limits of RUclips video ..? I think this is a really honest review rather than “everything is great because we sell it” 👍👍
This has a clear use.
It’s so that you don’t need 16 other expensive/complicated things connected together just to be able to practice singing and getting used to hearing your own vocal amplified back at you with reverb etc in a mix, while you play guitar at home. Duh.
Monitors+mixer+mics+vocal effects+ etc etc. This is the perfect solution to save the complication and expense of all that stuff.
That’s why I’m shopping this type of small acoustic amp that has a mic channel with reverb.
Mic+small 2 channel acoustic amp w/vocal/xlr cable/mic stand- good to go for home rockstar woodshedding
I have been dragging an old heavy Crate AC 60 for the last 40+ years. It still sounds fantastic.
Ben knowledge on acoustic stuff is top notch. well research.
I agree with another post here, which suggests a Katana on the acoustic channel. You have never compared that to other acoustic amps and i think a great deal of us here would love to see that. Please.
Really enjoyed the review as I’m just about to make a decision on an amp.
the AC-22LX is very similar to the Roland AC-33 with a few additions/ differences. I've used the AC-33 for the last 12-ish years for the exact purpose you mentioned in the video; it's fun to get lost in the acoustic sound.
A great upgrade to get a natural sound live is to get the mic & piezo pickup like the Anthem SL, or a guitar already with a mic pickup like a Maton or some of the newer Yamahas. The mic provides the airy quality and the piezo gives the punch.
imo mic-piezo combo pickup sounds good through any amp :)
Love the intro!
Happy Friday!
Ben, your french pronunciation was perfect ;)
Guys, you are doing always a great job! Ben, easy question fo a pro like you as you know all about acoustic guitars : For a J45 50's original, playing mainly at home (struming clasic rock, blues and few jazz, no country, a bit of picking), what would be your go-to? Boss or Bugera ac60 (half price on the second hand market). looper can be plugged into the Bugera, no rythm. But what about the sounds and the effects? As per your review on the Buegra, it wa quite a good one. What would be your choice?
Do a video on amps with power amp in or affordable cabinets to connect guitar processor with directly.
at @18:17 you mention we're hearing it through the DI, to clarify all the amp sounds we're hearing in the video are through? Is there an interface you're running that into? Is it in mono or stereo? Lastly, with the mic emulators do you see this being a good usage for direct recording from those back ports? Thanks for the video!
I think this would be a great buskers amp for a small crowd without annoying people a block away. As a home amp, it may be good as an audio interface to record guitar and vocals or like Lee mentioned, I'd use my silent guitar with it which could add another option for road trips with my silent guitar.
ngl I do plug my acoustic to my mixer and headphones with pedals ever so often because I sometimes wanna hear some chorus and reverb, so yeah Ben is not alone :D
For anyone not familiar with Roman numerals, this is the AC2260
It seems like it's made for home recording. Plug in direct and get mic placement sounds.
The Captain is stuck in electric guitar amp mindset. I like the idea of just enhancing the guitar. I like the idea of still hearing the acoustic guitar along with the amp output separately intead of drowning out the guitar output all together. Those percussion sounds are also in the Boss Dr01 rythym partner.
To practice at home quiet i have the Yamaha SLG200S and Yamaha SLG200N and they sound amazing plugged in to an amplifier and when using headphones is unbelievable amazing. When comes to acoustic amplifier my first was the Marshall ar80r , but i wanted the Marshall As100d and i got it few months ago . The Marshall AS80R is in my opinion better is an amazing acoustic amplifier and on vocals is a dream , i would never get rid of this amplifier. I think Marshall Soilist amplifiers are the best acoustic amplifiers ever made .
Saying this i think this is a lovely product from Boss and will appeal to many guitar players for sure .
Yamaha has a great piezo pickup. With my FSTA transacoustic on a small Fender amp, it doesn't have that canned acoustic piezo sound. Rich and full and the high end sounds mic'd by the sound hole.
It feels like Boss is doing something interesting here, and deliberately targetting people who like to play guitars but don't play gigs (or aspire to playing gigs) and don't want to upset the family/pets/neighbours. It'll be fascinating to see if they succeed in the medium-long term (after the initial rush of early adopters subsides).
FWIW, I bought the Fishman fairly recently (sans bluetooth). I like it but I'm now wondering if the Boss would have been a better choice for home use . . .
That little amp has a lot of promise, though I think they missed the mark with the size... you either want to go higher wattage so you can make it a valid stage amp, or you want to lose the speaker and power amp and make it a stompbox you can just plug into your power amp or PA, either way you could get the same headphone experience. That Blackstar though... very usable as-is, good to see they do as well with acoustic as electric amps.
Believe it or not but I get a killer sound with my Custom Shop Martin HD28 with an LR Baggs pickup into my Magnatone Varsity Reverb. Definitely wasn't expecting it. Little more expensive than the Boss amp though lol
this is as if you have read my mind! i have been looking into this the last few days, However I've been looking at the (ever so slightly over £400) fender Acoustic 100. where would you rank it amongst these amps?
I’m a flamenco guitar player and been using the Roland AC-33 for 10 years. It’s a very compact and lightweight stereo amplifier perfect for acoustic guitars and in my experience it sounds better than Bose S1 Pro and JBL EON One Compact, specially when you do the Picado/Rest Stroke technique. The speaker last around 7 hours with Eneloop Pro rechargeable batteries at 70% Volume that is enough for small gigs (20 - 30 pax indoor).
I just found that there is this new BOSS AC-22LX and I wonder if it has more volume and better quality sound. Is there anyone who already got this new amp. and compared with the Roland AC-33 in a live performance?
Please compare the two Victory Tremolo amps the V40 Deluxe and the RK50.
Ben's up there with the best isn't he. Killer guitar player
Presumably sits right between an AC15 and an AC30. 🤣
Nice but I still think there is more bang for the buck with the katana 100 at $350 and it has a very nice acoustic amp channel, plenty of effects
Boss katana 100 V2 acoustic setting - should have been in there. I'm using it - not bad at all!
Lee never really seems to get why someone should want to plug an already great sounding electro acoustic into an amp at home but it really does open up a whole new musical world...think your acoustic plugged into a Strymon Cloudburst then into that Boss Amp....or any amp...!!..the possibilities are endless...!!:-)...Ben got it in one though using the word ''Enhancement''.
My Cloudburst is on its way to try with my Yamaha transacoustic. It's going to sound Heavenly...
@@firebald2915You'll love the Cloudburst also worth exploring is the Walrus Sloer.... that's an amazing peddle too..😄
The Blackstar Sonnet was my favorite.... The I didn't like the Fishman... It managed to add a little bit of the Piezo quack sound... The Bulgera sounded pretty good to me in comparison.... Don't forget you can add an impulse response pedal and make an IR of the guitar you're playing to get more accuracy with something like K&K.....
Isn’t this really a DI box you can take to gigs with your tone already dialled in? If so, it kinda makes sense
Wich one is louder Sonnet 60 or the Loudbox Mini?
Boss Sound is the Best Sound. Many variations You must hear. All another Things are muttle not special thinks so Boss 22 this is true. My Ear say this and my heart love this.😊😊
Nice!
I was told that there is a lack of sync between looper clock and the rhythm clock - you seem to be suggesting the opposite? which is good news if true - if not - its a surprising omission
The NUX AC80 is a competitive option also
Sir i want Loud n clear sound im confused in JBL EON & Boss Acs plz suggest me for singing and acoustic guitar plz im waiting 4ur Reply
Hi,
I'm playing acoustic guitar and singing . I do have Fender 212R but now I'm thinking to buy acoustic amp. I don't use acoustic-electric guitar just a microphone (I have both dynamic and condense). I do thinking about this four amps but maybe you have better advice. I like some power (minimum 50W).
Fender Acoustic 100 Amplifier (100W)
Marshall AS50DV 50w Acoustic Instrument Amplifier
Boss Acoustic Singer Live LT Compact Acoustic Instrument Amp
Boss Acoustic Singer Live Amplifier Combo
Any advice?
Many thanks,
Is there an xlr di line out?
Boss needs to release a preamp version of that amp .
Should have compared the katana 50 ex through it's acoustic channel. You can run two in stereo, and even one has a better SPL ... Much louder and versatile in different ways.
How is it on vocals?
@@ShawnGilbert1967 I wouldn't use anything other than an array-sub for vocals ... better projection.
@fast-trackhack6637 example? I want something small I can plug head phones in too for back room home
@@ShawnGilbert1967 Mooer Prime is awesome
Would these make a decent jazz amp for electric guitars even?
yes!
does Boss AC-22LX's looper have an undo feature? like if i have overdubbed anything, but i dont like it, can i press and hold to undo that overdub only (not the entire loop)?
No
I think the Boss is rather Ideal for people who want to slay in their RUclips videos. These are usually filmed at home in a spare bedroom turned into an office space. Or for those practicing at home. Not so much for loud.
Could you use an acoustic bass through these amps ?
Acoustic amps tend to be better for bass than electric guitar amps but I would probably recommend an electric bass or keyboard amp first.
The battery power says it all for me. It's for busking
This solves a problem that otherwise is complicated and expensive to solve.
Let me get used to singing in a mic while I play at home and practice playing rockstar with a mic/stand.
Playing and singing is not the same as playing and singing and hearing your vocal with reverb etc in a mix amplified back at you. That’s not something I want to experience for the first time on stage as a 3 piece 😂
I can't help but wish you had included the Nux acoustic amps in your shoot out. They're really pretty phenomenal.
Except they don't carry them, so they don't review them.
Can't really swallow Boss and their "optional Bluetooth dongle" on their products. For me, this box is something I'd use for an Acoustic/Voice scenario. Depending on the size of the venue, I'd just DI it to a larger PA.
So guys, which amplifier do you think is the best?
I made it all the way to the end.
People underestimate the Katana 50 acoustic channel potential
The Boss would probably sound good with a Yamaha transacoustic guitar. There is a piezo and an "in the body" mic.
Best acoustic amp. Sm-57
Fender 100w acoustisonic
If you own an electric and acoustic, just get the Positive Gris Spark 40w
It's a shame Boss can't make a better looking app. It's perfectly functional but just looks pants compared to the Spark etc.
Rather wish more time was spent on the others. This seems to be mainly about the boss. Not much comparing here.
Check out the Fender Acoustic 100 amp folks ...it's awesome..!!...:-)
Toss the Boss...no great loss... you can purchase a TC Helicon Harmony V60 for a little more dosh... as for the others in this video, they're just floss.
brg back the real acoustic ben
Are all this people like Ben, Digital John, Pete etc. working as sellers or buyers at Andertons?
If yes, then Andertons are something like Avengers.
Musical super heroes.
Joyo is the best
New category = lockdown mode!!...hi!..hi!...
The Boss AC22 is not a winner, trying too hard to achieve a decent sound is not what people want to deal with. I suggest get a Fishman and call it a day, they are the standard IMO. Last point, look at the body language as he plays through the Fishman, he is feeling what he's playing, you can't fake that.
you means 70s not 80s - bit of slip there - methinks
comparing? 90% of video was the Boss
I… I don’t like this at all
Sounds like a nice unit but just underpowered
