The best thing, in my opinion, about the recent Gerber multi tools is the sheath. I use the extra straps to put the sheath on my belt horizontally, straddling a belt loop so it won't slide around. Then I put my Leatherman in it!!
1. great review 2. I am older. When the multitools were not available, the late Ron Hood and I had a disagreement about which SAK to buy at the low end as a "pre Leatherman multitool". He wanted a wood saw. I wanted a scissors. The Huntsman model was the SAK knife that had both features. 3. I have multiple Leatherman Wave tools: in the car, in the dance shoe bag, in a suit case and at home. 4. If I were starting over, I went pick a Chinese leatherman like tool with a scissors as my backups and occasional use tools.
the thing i love the most about the suspension nxt is the spring action which the leatherman wave does not have, the leatherman also does not have but the pocket clip but the pocket clip on the suspension is atrocious and doesn't hold onto any pocket i have or any loops. For this reason I always carry my leatherman and my gerber at the same time.
Great review. I just ordered a couple of these from Amazon, one to throw in my boat tool box and the other in my ski bag. I have other multitools (SOG, Leatherman) but these I can put in places where it's not a big deal if I lose them.
I’ve owned the original Gerber Suspension for nearly 10 years. It’s a great multi-tool for its price and purpose. Camping, fishing, handyman duties, etc. I know how to care for my tools, sharpen blades, and not abuse my stuff. Unless you are prepping for the apocalypse, the suspension will get work done.
I bought the BiBury 31 in 1 multitool, basically a Surge clone. Very pleased with it. If I’d found it sooner, I would never have purchased my Wave+. However, my favorite multitool is my Gerber Dual Force; around our 3 acres and RV it is the most useful and dependable.
Thanks for all the hard work you do putting these videos together. I am looking to get a smart watch and haven't decided on one yet. I would love to know what kind of watch you wear and see some reviews on that. Keep up the great work and I love your channel! God bless you and your family.
Great video. I've got a Bibury clone and a Workpro clone of the Wave, both of which are pretty good. The Bibury is quite a bit nicer quality, and more like current Wave, with replaceable wire cutter blades. Didn't want to throw a genuine $$$ Leatherman in the toolbag in the truck. Wish someone would clone the Juice and the Squirt.
I find the black coated gerber pliers have been phenomenal, ive had a mp600 basic for over 6 years and just got a custom centerdrive plus with the same coating, which i find is just better protection than the silver finish that ive had on a gerber truss. I also find the sliding jaw or out the front pliers from gerber have insane stability compared to butterfly jaws, plus you can flick it with youe wrist and open them one handed. If leatherman has one similar, i might have to test it out
Hey man, your channel is my go to for knife reviews but there’s a couple of tools I’d really love to see you review. The baryonyx machete and the G2 Grandaddy machete. God bless you man.

I bought a bibury multi tool on Amazon for $17 last year. It is an EXACT clone of the Gerber NXT. Same design, same tools, same metal material, same belt clip.
I don’t like the Flissa. The handles close when you cut things. The blade is decent. I like the Harbor freight version better. The bit holder retention isn’t very good. The pliers close too easy but better than the Flissa. Leatherman is still better and you definitely pay for it.
The box on my B/Bury says that it's made of 3Cr13. Hope that helps. I bought it on the strength of your review and I'm really surprised at the quality. Thanks for making the content.
awesome review , however here in the UK the amazon link you put up wont ship to my country , would there be any way you could supply British Amazon links??
The biggest issue with these tools is that you usually can't replace the wire cutters, saw, or file, which are extremely consumable, and they usually have a fixed Philips screwdriver instead of a bit driver, which is just stupid. Moreover, a multitool should only have one knife blade, lots of them have two which is a waste of space, nobody wants both a plain and serrated blade, people who can sharpen only want plain and people who can't only want serrated. The scissors are usually pretty useless as well.
I bought three suspensions for my kids. They are garbage when trying to use the pliers. The grip is way too wide for small hands to grip. If you have banana hands, fine. But normal hands or smaller hands, they suck!!
I just got a Rocktol with the fire starter on it I broke a Gerber suspension cutting chainlink fence so I bought a new one and now it’s in a bag lost somewhere around here lol That’s why when I seen you review the Rocktol I had to get one ☝🏼
I get where you're going with these Leatherman/Gerber clones. My Leatherman Surge is built like a tank and nearly as heavy. But not everyone can afford it or need something that massive. These inexpensive multi-tools definitely meet a need for lighter duty, affordable tools that can handle a lot of tasks without carrying a toolbox everywhere you go. The Rocktol 12 in 1 you reviewed a while back is a great example. Surprisingly, I use my small $25 Leatherman Micra more for incidental stuff than the larger multi-tools. The drivers work for the small tasks and the scissors are better than what comes on the bigger tools. I just don't need a pair of pliers all that often and when I do I go out to the SUV and get my Surge. No way I'm lugging it around in my pocket.
Hey Aron, I have much respect for you bro, but I will never again buy a Gerber product and I haven’t in over twenty years. I bought a few Gerber products many years ago and none of them lasted more than a few months, including three multitools. Their quality is sub par to the extreme. My Leathermans just keep on going. It’s far less expensive to just buy the Leatherman in the long run and you don’t have to worry about failures.
Totally somebody has the money they should buy me a lot of them as I can. This is just a super budget friendly option for those who don’t have $100 or want one or two back ups to their Leatherman. 👍😉 always appreciate the comments and feedback Jonathan.
G'day Aaron, goes to show how much mark up there often is on mass produced products and for the sake of a coupla tweaks, a shipload more sales, outweighs the cost of the extra effort to start with. Incidentally, a mate of mine picked up a ripper cheapie in the specials bin at one of our outdoor chains for 5, yes 5, I'll say it again 5 AUD, (around 3 USD). Unfortunately unbranded and unpackaged, no model, serial number, to be found, not even a "made in" from memory, (fair bet, alphabet steel from NW of Taiwan, the blade reminded me of 8Cr, which aint too bad), ultimately, I couldn't tell ya what it was. And nor could the sales staff, I went back for one a coupla days later, but alas all gone, (I reckon word had got out), and no clue from behind the counter, ...... not that they'd admit anyway ; ) As far as multitools go, it was one of the better designs, build and ergos I've ever seen with about half the tools liner locking and no play anywhere, ...... at least as new ; ) Main point is; yes there's plenty of rubbish to ferret through, ............ but dont ignore the specials bin !!! Cheers Duke.
I think in this case better than the original. My reason for a 'knock off' or 'look alike' is overseas backpacking trips where you don't know the laws. If customs confiscate your 150 dollar Leatherman Wave you're off on a bad start compared to my 25 dollar (free delivery to my door) China tool (no brand name) that's build like the Wave but actually has more tools and all locking. The tools, clip and pouch are all sturdy. The pliers have no play and replacable wire cutters. On the outside it has a straight edge sheepfoot blade (less agressive looking), woodsaw, metal file and scissors and all are full size with liner locks. On the inside the other tools with a differnt locking system. The philips head is 3D so you can use an adaper set. The tool is rather heavy because of the heavy duty build but not a problem for in my backpack.
Thanks for the good review as always. I agree that if you just need a multitool to have around the house or put in a bag, i feel like for $15 you can't really go wrong. But for heavy duty use, Leatherman might be a better option despite the price.
@@atomicsmith from what I hear the vast majority or leatherman is made in America besides some of the tools on some models because they have no other option to source them in the states and I can understand having to go over seas for parts that just aren’t made in America or aren’t made in enough quantity to keep up with production but they are tested to leatherman standards when they have to do that. I m guessing they wouldn’t have this problem if Americans would stop buying Chinese etc forcing American makers to shut down or go overseas. When it comes to prices what doesn’t go up in price almost every year with inflation supply and demand etc.
On a tight budget a Milwaukee fast back utility knife/driver, slip joint pliars, and SAK knife of your choice be a better system IMO vs a multi tool. I do own a couple leatherman tools I've had for years that I use and enjoy. 2024 leatherman have gotten crazy expensive. Thanks Aaron for a good review. Take care. 🇺🇲🔪🌲🔥

A small modification can reduce the weight of this tool and bring it close to the Gerber.
