In the near future the nature of schools is going to change. Online learning will predominate and the cost will decrease; instructors will receive more compensation based on their effectiveness. The criteria for landing employment will be whether the person can actually do the work well, and has a strong desire to do that particular job. Accreditation itself will be big business.

Probably because Law Schools charge huge prices and are not going to give it all away for nothing.

@@willchristie2650 It would be a community service to inform the citizens who paid for the State University Law Schools of what laws they are expected to obey and what the consequences could be if they disobey them. Also this would cut down on the crime, ignorance, poverty and disease rates because everyone would have something worthwhile to watch instead of the fake entertainment industry e.g. Batman, Spiderman and Superman. LOL

Thank you for asking about volunteering! There are a lot of ways to get involved in our community. Have you checked out our Events page (www.theselc.org/events) yet?
One way I might suggest (to give you an introduction to some of our staff and some of our other volunteers, and to get a sense of the kinds of clients we assist), is to sign up as a volunteer for one of our Resilient Communities Legal Cafes (www.theselc.org/cafe) where we provide direct legal advice to walk-in (during COVID-19 zoom-in) clients who need legal advice as they work to build a more just and generative, local economy. We normally host three Legal Cafes each month in Oakland and Berkeley, and sometimes other East Bay locations, but during the pandemic, all Legal Cafes have migrated online, so hopefully you'll be able to sign up for one that fits your schedule.
You can find our Legal Cafe calendar here (www.theselc.org/cafe_calendar) and you can find out what types of legal advice we do give by clicking here (www.theselc.org/cafe-about#types). The Legal Cafe is often full (sold out) these days with clients who reserved a spot to speak with an attorney, so it's a busy place, and it's best if we know that a new volunteer is planning to attend. If you sign up to volunteer here (www.theselc.org/cafe-volunteering) then we can be prepared to meet you and introduce you to our staff and our other volunteers, and to the volunteering experience.
I hope that helps get you started!
If you're not already signed up for our newsletter, which we only send occasionally and usually based on your interests, you can sign up here (www.theselc.org/newsletter-sign-up).
Thanks again for reaching out to volunteer! If you have any questions about volunteering, please email: Tia@theselc.org. She coordinates our amazing group of Legal Cafe volunteers. We hope to meet you soon at a Legal Cafe!
      Elizabeth

Hi Sen - we have not compiled information on apprenticing to become a lawyer in New York. You might want to start by looking into the New York State Bar rules to see if they allow for legal apprenticing to become a lawyer in that state.

    • @carolynmansager6952

New York does require some law school. Call their State Bar and ask their requirements. Good luck!

This is not very useful to 92% of the country, but an interesting idea.
