Awesome stuff as always guys! I'm a tinkerer/problem solver myself - I've made a few machines (out of wood) for my new trade as a luthier (guitar and stringed instrument making) I've also built my own temp and humidity controlled atmosphere workshop out of wood I bought from a 'box store' plus scraps from a giant CNC machine. Wish I had harbour freight over here (original jersey, UK). We simply can't buy some of the gear I'd love to have access to without being licensed etc. your content is truly inspiring and it's nice to see the real you guys and the chemistry. It's all great but doing boy things in a man/batcave is easy enough with smiles on your face.
I wanted to make this series as close to a real movie as I possibly could. Between Steven’s incredible shots, Will’s antics and Ethan’s willpower I think we got pretty dang close! Maybe we are ready to make a movie now?
I mean this with all love and respect, you guys are great, you have to have a driver in the rear Humvee. I’m a veteran, we did that all the time, that tow rig is not meant to tow without a chauffeur in back for brakes, steering and signals. I wish someone would’ve told you…
First thing I noticed too. I remember chilling in the back HMMWV driving with my boots up without keeping the thing straight for most of the tow but damned if I didn't get my hands on the steering wheel when we go to our offramps.
I've had my suspicion when they've started driving around with that tow bar, that someone should have been in the rear to at least hold the steering wheel straight when needed. And sadly I was right. It's kinda weird that they've didn't realize such a basic thing (and yet they've replaced flywheel at Walmart's parking lot) o_o
That "flat tow" rig is supposed to have a harness that connects to the electricals for signals and a connection to the air brakes, steering not required. Vehicles are flat towed all the time without a driver but it has to be hooked up/done correctly. I'm sure those trucks will have the hook-ups unless for some reasom they were stripped out but why would anyone do that!
That's what I was thinking, it seemed like the rear humvee didn't want to be steered by the front vee. With a guy in the rear one he could of assisted with the steering, braking and lights
In the Army I was a mechanic and had recovery school. The actual tow bar is solid steel and if I remember right mounts in the holes where the clevis bolts on. Those things are horrible for maintenance. Every hundred miles of a road march we'd lose 2-3 vehicles. You guys need to wait for the glow plug light to go off right above the switch. It's pretty easy to mushroom the glow plugs in that engine.

@@AlienBmxican Pretty common for a light vehicle pulled by something way heavier, not this, here the rear vehicle has too much traction and control over the leading one. If the rear hits a pothole or whatever and turns, it has enough weight and grip to throw both vehicles off the road if the towbar is strong enough, though here we saw it wasn't

Pretty sure that with those A-Frames, you're still required to have a driver in the towed vehicle for that very reason (excessive strain being put on the mount going round corners). I've been involved in recovering buses with tow wagons before, and the only way you can recover something without a driver on the towed vehicle is if you suspended tow it to in effect turn it into a trailer.

I came from FabRats just to find out the story of this Hummer ! I liked the story except when I seen things starting to go wrong ! The major problem was no one in the back vehicle while it was towed ! Sure you turn the lights on but brake lights only works when someone pushes the brake pedal ! I could tell by looking at that tow bar that it wouldn't hold up long ! Sure you towed it around a little before starting out and a comment was made that it couldn't take sharp turns ! But you guys did it anyways ! I'm just glad that no one got hurt or killed in this stupid stunt ! Please really think things through , look at the whole picture , at all the possibilities that could go wrong and be prepared for anything ! I seen where one of you laughed at comment about the danger that you put others in without their knowledge ! Sure you want to do stuff , I understand that but please do it with the safety of you and everyone around you ! I didn't serve this country for people that doesn't seem to care what happens to others as long as you get to stupid shit !
Yes! I kept thinking it’ll cut to a scene where they say you know what it’s going to be hard but we can’t leave a man behind but never came😅the other 3 are softies😏
Same here! It was disappointing to hear the flat-toned pessimism from camera guy before the real journey began. Hopefully we get to see a renewed sense of adventure from the crew in the next segment.
I've done it both ways with various combinations. If the towed car is light weight compared to the tow car and has good caster on the front wheels it works fine with no driver behind the wheel. But if the towed car has poor caster and is heavy then it needs a pilot behind the wheel just to help the steering. It doesn't need much effort on the wheel, just a bit on turns to help it find the right track.
Im so glad u all got hooked up woth Matt towing and Paul from Fab Rats they are awesome. Its fun seeing you guys from here going there and hanging with them etc you all make my down time fun
Grind Hard Bros. - Its been rough lately and the editing of 1:39 to 2:13 is what I needed to hear. Sometimes it feels like we're "not moving forward", or are stuck in "Lo", But lets "just start with that". Thank you for this soulful poetry in trial and the pick up to keep traveling down our roads.

I was going to mention how the use of real music in this was absolutely wild. Really cool to see you guys doing so well, I feel like I was following along you guys just modding toys for a laugh just the other day. This does genuinely feel like a high budget tv show or movie and I'm super proud of all of you guys and your dedication to keep it going. I know some random message of support doesn't mean a lot from a guy down in Newfoundland Canada, but I just highly appreciate the content you guys make and its genuinely impressive to continue to be amazed by the stuff that you all do. Huge props boys, keep killing it. Won't be long now until you have a big studio knocking on your door looking to buy your content. oh and by the way, can't wait for more. Love the humvee's.
I've made the drive from Orange County to Denver 17 times since moving to Denver in 2006. In a uhaul with a car hauler two times. In a uhaul itself. 2002 BMW 328i, 2009 Audi S5, 2006 F150, 2016 F250, and a 2017 Honda CRV. If you are 2.5 hours from Vegas, you definitely have some uphills. They are deceiving in that area, and after Vegas to St. George as well. They seem gradual, but they just wear on you, and the vehicle (of course, not always, the coupes were fun regardless of the grade). My 2006 F150 blew its front main seal on the transmission pulling a Uhaul trailer on the grade out from Baker, CA. That heat, the black asphalt, and long grades really take their toll. Well executed gentlemen. Looks like a very grand adventure.
That's why each M998 came with a solid tow bar. No flex, but you shouldn't do highway speeds with a tow on a flex bar. Or further than stated, the piston legs blow out.
The most realistic trip from a RUclips channel. Other would probably just ship it. Many can’t imagine how difficult and demoralizing a trip like this can be. Keep it up guys.
My hat is off to you guys! Driving these trucks with unknown hundreds of thousands of miles on them is wild. Best of luck, guys. I can't wait to see what you all do with these trucks. I appreciate your content.
My idea for the hummer. Shave the bottom 60% clean off. Keep the wheels. Its capacity would be ONLY 2 medium weight adults at 12mph max. Maybe a higher percent if it’s a little uncomfortable inside. Or go cart wheels. Funny to picture drop axles with big wheels, even if they go over the body work, but if it’s basically driving like the presidents golf cart, it doesn’t need much. You might need a bigger trailer for your next festival haul.
welcome to modern military equipment. Army Vet myself and most everything i had to use was bare minimum functionality. (on the oposite end my great uncle got a deuce and a half truck surplus in like 1960 and used it as a farm runner till the day he died. mind you by then it only had 1st, 2nd, maybe 3rd with no reverse and stuck in all wheel. she also had stop signs for floor boards and the bed was plywood but it still ran better than a modern humvee. )
In 1989 we made our shaky HMMWVs smooth out by doing four wheel alignments. Once aligned, 70 was a smooth ride. At least compared to what it was before.
I wouldn't have been able to leave it either. I think Ethan is pretty normal from my perspective. If that thing didn't have a rod hanging out the side of the block or a transmission exploded all over the pavement. There's no way I would be parking it in a storage unit. I think he made the right call. Can't wait to see the rest of the story.
Regardless of how successful this whole endeavor is as an adventure, these videos are top-tier content, and I'm just happy to be along for the ride, no matter where it leads.
No you definitely should not but you should have the steering wheel strapped/locked. In fact it might even be illegal to sit back there while in tow depending on the state.
If you notice that round cap and connector next to the shifter that is called the s t e - i c e connector. You can bypass neutral safety and jump the starter solenoid with a jumper between the letters s and t.
Why do people keep saying this? These hummers are very well built and expensive. They've been beaten to absolute shit and poorly maintained for 40 years straight.
Honestly surprised Ethan didn't build a new tow bar or something. Love the determination. You guys are great. Hope to someday meet you all. 100% My kind of people.
Man you'll guys remember this for the rest your life. awesome episode guys! Also love that song playing as you guys rolled into Vegas. The whole sound track to this episode was amazing. So sick
always always always disconnect drive shaft of towed vehicle. the oil splash is on the engine side of the transmission power input. The axle side has no oil splash so no splashy = more hotty (or just tow it on a really bumpy road to get them sloshing around) :D
Don’t give up Ethan. I’m always to dumb to give up. Ur too smart to give up. Push on u got this. If u fight hard enough u can pull it off. Thats my style no give
Put a bungee from steering wheel to the door. You want it tight but allow it to move a little Gotta slow to a crawl when there's an inch or more of a lip turning into any location. I used to pull a 25 foot fifth wheel converted to goose neck behind my 03 Chevy 8.1l and strap an 86 Subaru brat with a 93 Honda fourtrax in the back to the 95 camper. Man that was the life. Going wherever I wanted whenever I wanted. Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and Nevada. Love the things, you know, the things, all the things man. A-fame tow bar needs someone behind the wheel, only works if connected to a steering system, like RVs do when towing a car behind it, apart from that loving the adventure, as an owner of an ex-military vehicle myself your hitting the right buttons here with me, let the adventure continue 👍
Sick sick sick sick sick!!!! Super proud of you guys and Ethan is the MAN! Makes me feel good to know there’s other wrenches out there that like being thrown into the thick of it for kicks and giggles.
1200+ miles with a friend that is equally mechanically inclined. Sounds like an AMAZING TIME! Being a Utahan Ive done the sketchy truck drive from Moab to Idaho. Take it slow, pay attention to noises and change a U joint with a rock, stick and pliers🤣
I guess I was a tad disappointed that the fellowship of the humvee broke up. It seemed like you where definitely on the way to sorting out the single cab unit. This is something most people dream of doing. I wouldn't expect it to all be fun. But having some actual hotels to stay at and actual food would make so much difference. Ive done 2 1000km (700mile) cannon ball trips to buy cars. First with my dad then the second time I took my mum. Flew up to buy the car then drove straight back across 2 states to catch a overnight ferry that's booked out for weeks in advance.

The military gets to take liberties that will have civilians locked up for. :/
All that long comment is shit because these are Humvees not hummers so you wasted our time and yours
HUMVEE NOW SAY HUMVEE! GOT IT!
Ethan is such a hard worker what a legend! The vibes are immaculate looking forward to the rest of this series.
He’s a beast!

24:19 man what a blessing to have a friend like this!
Man, I was really hoping the group would've finished this together. But I get it, some folks aren't built that way! I appreciate all ya'll keep it up!
Yeaah! almost two weeks waiting for the history to continue!

oh yea?
Grind Hard Bros. - Its been rough lately and the editing of 1:39 to 2:13 is what I needed to hear. Sometimes it feels like we're "not moving forward", or are stuck in "Lo", But lets "just start with that". Thank you for this soulful poetry in trial and the pick up to keep traveling down our roads.
"And this one smells like poop" Lol! "That's a fish". You guys crack me up
Will is the best
That's the comment I came here to make😂
Truckers refer to that smell as eau de' lot lizard
All of you together is what makes it so much fun. Will is the freshly ground retard powder on your entertainment casserole!@@GrindHardPlumbingCo
Hearing Ethan talk about the support from his wife makes me very happy for him. My Wife is the same way with the shenanigans I get into, and I love her for it.
Yessss! Haven’t heard him talk about her before, and was really nice to hear that, and that he has the support he does. These guys are legends, but behind every legend is a great woman!
Great job on the video folks! Thanks for making it. Kaleo's voice is a welcome addition to any video.
In the Service, stationed with the Marine Corps, we called that FUBAR.
I feel like the music is under appreciated. I have loved every piece of music on every video. It just adds so much! Not only am I watching a video about some incredible bros. This editing is totally sick and the music is just *chefs kiss* .
Thanks man. I put a lot of love into the edits - Edwin
What an amazing watch that was, thank you so much! Grind Hard is truly the best content out there. Licensed music was a nice and surprising touch.
Glad you enjoyed it!
a wee tip for you guys, use the seatbelt to lock the steering wheel straight, the diffs will let it turn. great video again!
Ethan is just build different. Such an inspiration for his mindset.
So far the best work you did in filming and editing! Hope this series never ends.
Ethan is not any more special than any one he just have drive ! And you would to if this was yours
Thank you! Will do!
@@frankroll8080I agree I'm like Ethan. But I guess only for certain things. If its something other people would call stupid or crazy im all in. I ride motorcycles in the rain and snow. Hot cold I love it when I'm doing something crazy or stupid. I do it in the safest way possible but just being in the suck is what is fun. And doing what people tell me I can't do
Ive loved the series, but like others have said, wow.... when i saw that being towed without someone in it.... Im just glad it worked out and didn't end badly.
The production quality on these videos has been top notch.
Would love to see it in a cinema with an audience full of Grind Hard minded individuals.
Keep doing what you're doing.
Shouldn’t you have had a safety chain hooked up between vehicles when using the tow bar?
Yes! They are lucky they didn’t get hurt or kill someone towing that thing improperly.
Yes they also should have strapped/locked the steering wheel so it tracked behind it. It didn’t look like they did that either.
Only if you want to be safe, but what's more safe than a retired military humvee? These bad boys can survive at least 3 more speed bumbs and some hard wind.
Haha

@@GrindHardPlumbingCo no worries! I feel like these Humvees are gonna soak up some money, and we all want to see them kicking ass at KOH!
I think that there is a person needed to steer the humvee that is getting towed.
This is such a good video. I will definatly rewatch it.
yeah this is meant for slow speed towing, so someone else could be in the back to steer.
Have you people never seen a "flat tow" rig before?
@bigcconservativeguy2534 the legal ones here attach to the steering.
Also with a person in the towed humvee he can APPLY THE BREAKS PEOPLE !!!!
yeah, that was weird. imagine this thing breaking at highway speeds, with nobody behind the wheel
Love it guys! Edwin the overall quality of the videos between the soundtracks, filming style, and quality content really sets the channel apart. I thankyou for always delivering premium extra-sketch moments! Again thank all of you for your effort to deliver quality content and enjoy what you do at the same time...love it!
When you started playing "way down we go" I thought my phone had connected to the TV lmao such a awesome surprise
It actually means a lot man! Thank you so much!
The music literally makes the video 100000000000X BETTER!!!! Keep grind-hard-ing lads.
Come on, you can do it. We are also supporting you.😊 😊😊
That's why each M998 came with a solid tow bar. No flex, but you shouldn't do highway speeds with a tow on a flex bar. Or further than stated, the piston legs blow out.
The Danger Twins in a tree in Vegas. Priceless ❤
The most realistic trip from a RUclips channel. Other would probably just ship it. Many can’t imagine how difficult and demoralizing a trip like this can be. Keep it up guys.
I love seeing you guys work together!! Keep it up!
My hat is off to you guys! Driving these trucks with unknown hundreds of thousands of miles on them is wild. Best of luck, guys. I can't wait to see what you all do with these trucks. I appreciate your content.
Hahaha.!! Was just watching fab rats and this popped up!!
The door!! 😂🤣
That sloMo walk-on Will had with the Tow Bar in that shirt, shot me straight back to '86 and the Miami Vice cinematography.

keep doing things with fabrats. would love to see a bigger collab.
Love how we sit with them as they have a conversation 😄❤
Huvees go brrrrr.... or more like crashing sounds but you get the point.
You might want to check your oil
What’s a huvee?
I used to get them all the time🤣!!!@@YaBoiiMarty
@@YaBoiiMarty its the car in the video :)
I can watch this dudes drive peacefully all day. For some reason it’s soothing as hell to me.
Great music selection!
Edit: Edvin, I´m Swedish and even I got the 1776 reference!
Yeah, it’s pretty good music😊
My idea for the hummer. Shave the bottom 60% clean off. Keep the wheels. Its capacity would be ONLY 2 medium weight adults at 12mph max. Maybe a higher percent if it’s a little uncomfortable inside. Or go cart wheels. Funny to picture drop axles with big wheels, even if they go over the body work, but if it’s basically driving like the presidents golf cart, it doesn’t need much. You might need a bigger trailer for your next festival haul.
I was gonna ask if you were paying for music. The production quality of this channel is amazing. Best content on RUclips
Yup! You said it 👍🏻
Much appreciated!
welcome to modern military equipment. Army Vet myself and most everything i had to use was bare minimum functionality.
(on the oposite end my great uncle got a deuce and a half truck surplus in like 1960 and used it as a farm runner till the day he died. mind you by then it only had 1st, 2nd, maybe 3rd with no reverse and stuck in all wheel. she also had stop signs for floor boards and the bed was plywood but it still ran better than a modern humvee. )
I could literally watch you guys put training wheels on a bicycle lmao. Your videos have the best personality and production value, I swear
In 1989 we made our shaky HMMWVs smooth out by doing four wheel alignments. Once aligned, 70 was a smooth ride. At least compared to what it was before.
Been waiting for this ! Thanks guys 👍
Ethan is old school and you gotta respect the drive and determination he has ... Respect my dude
I've never realized how much I miss the loyalty and bond of true friendship.
Literally juat finished Fab Rats video and Bam!!!! NEW Humvee vid!
I like how optimistic you guys are.
Full send for the win
Regardless of how successful this whole endeavor is as an adventure, these videos are top-tier content, and I'm just happy to be along for the ride, no matter where it leads.
Glad to see that I’m not the only one needing this video
A big reason i love this channel is the music ngl... but mostly because this channel is awesome. Everything you guys do is a dream to me.
Lol, your supposed to have someone in the driver's seat of the Humvee being towed
You do not, lol.not with a tow bar, you don't need anyone in it.what drugs you on.
No you definitely should not but you should have the steering wheel strapped/locked. In fact it might even be illegal to sit back there while in tow depending on the state.
@@justingould7348i dont know of any state that lets you ride in a vehicle being towed, these people are killing me with these comments!
@@justingould7348nobody locks the steering wheel while towing, you wouldn't be able to turn
You most certainly should have someone in the back vehicle so that way it still is in control and you can actually turn also
If you notice that round cap and connector next to the shifter that is called the s t e - i c e connector. You can bypass neutral safety and jump the starter solenoid with a jumper between the letters s and t.
Imagine the cybertruck trying to tow a cybertruck
Haha true
Music is absolutely killer in this video 🔥
"Remember, your equipment was made by the lowest bidder." - Murphy's Law of combat operations
Why do people keep saying this? These hummers are very well built and expensive. They've been beaten to absolute shit and poorly maintained for 40 years straight.

Ya did the right thing. Can't wait to see what Paul does to your rig.
Man you'll guys remember this for the rest your life. awesome episode guys! Also love that song playing as you guys rolled into Vegas.
The whole sound track to this episode was amazing. So sick
Cool that you're using a tow bar, haven't seen anyone else use them until now and thanks for the awesome content, you are an inspiration!
always always always disconnect drive shaft of towed vehicle. the oil splash is on the engine side of the transmission power input. The axle side has no oil splash so no splashy = more hotty (or just tow it on a really bumpy road to get them sloshing around) :D
The dedication these guys have, wearing a back pack and a front pack.
Such a gamble rolling these down the highway without even looking at those portal hub/spindle nuts!! Mine were all loose lol

Your builds are sick AF and inspirational as well as addictive. It's My Mountain...... Yes. All of them. Carry on men. 💯% 🇺🇲 🚫🐑
A-fame tow bar needs someone behind the wheel, only works if connected to a steering system, like RVs do when towing a car behind it, apart from that loving the adventure, as an owner of an ex-military vehicle myself your hitting the right buttons here with me, let the adventure continue 👍
Love the beginning of this video. With the music that made sense in that scene.. masterpiece
I love watching the camera pan across zip codes when looking from one side of the cab to the other as they talk inside the humvee
