Getting thumped by a kite feels similar to being hit on the head by a bean sack

I saw one of these yesterday for the first time. Impressive bird and before I knew it's name I was intrigued by the way it flew. It stopped at a tree above my head and it let me observe him for a couple of minutes. Definitely made my day. I enjoyed your video, thanks for sharing!

I have a pair that hang out in the field behind my house here in Texas. They are beautiful and I've been trying to research them. One of them has stayed still enough to let me film and take pictures several times. I think it's just as fascinated by me as I am of it. 😅

Kites are EASILY the most fearless Birds of Prey on Earth,.

  • @dyskover

I've got loads of hawks, osprey and even vultures in my vicinity, often seen riding thermals. The Mississippi Kites are easily the most aerodynamic of the lot and seem able to articulate parts of their wings like ailerons. I've seen them on a glide using only their tails as rudders, quickly shifting to maintain their path as their extended wings caught the air.

I liked the aviation jargon you put into your post. We used to go thermal hunting with 2 and 3 meter RC gliders. Sharing boomer thermals with the hawks and vultures was a blast! Now I have Mississippi kites across the street in the tree. Would be fun to fly with them.

    Really cool!
I had my chickens out today and I was really worried that they were going to attack and try to snatch one. They looked so fast and intimidating. The way they flew made me nervous and somehow looked threatening, but it turns out they're just show-offs. LoL.
Thankfully, as far as my research goes, they don't appear to be a threat to large chickens. I do have small bantams though I'll be sure to supervise just in case.
I guess when I see them I'll take the time to enjoy them then. They are impressive fliers indeed!
And they had the most interesting call that had me scratching my head. I had to figure out what this interesting bird was. I figured a kite or osprey, but the kites I've seen have a forked-tail (swallowtail kites) and the images I've seen of ospreys didn't look quite right. So, now I know it's the mississippi kite. Nice!

Such beautiful birds. I absolutely love Raptors as they are the best flyers, very acrobatic, and very majestic. The Red-tails are my favorite here in Kansas, despite them being the most common Raptor in North America, they are still very beautiful and amazing to watch.

@@Chill_life_always Good for you. Here it is impossible to avoid them as we need to use the pathway to move in and out of the house. Also, I think now they are no more just parents protecting their kids, they have started attacking us without any reason. If it's okay with you, can you please tell me if there has been any negative incidents in your or your family's lives ever since they started living near you, my mom is really worried due to people saying that Kites living near your house can cause death or downfall in the family??? Please.

    • @Chill_life_always
      @Chill_life_always 2 года назад

@@stitipadhy6972 I don't think they can cause that much harm to anyone. They are just trying to scare us with their claws thinking it's thier territory. I recommend you take a stick in your hand and hold it in a way so that it's at least 2 feet above ur head. Like this they don't try to attack u. But don't use stick to scare them, just as ur protection. This will do.Or you can wear an attractive Color cap.

@@Chill_life_always Thanks for the suggestions! UK what yesterday they almost ripped off our neighbour's skull and he had to get stitches. They have been attacking all the elderly in our family and the little kids in the neighbourhood every now and then. Today morning, two of them came so close to my face, I could literally feel their claws on my face. Had I not rushed into the safety of my house, I am sure they would have ripped off my skin as well. They usually tried to scare us earlier but nowadays they are searching for ways to attack, trust me! Idk what went wrong here. The authorities here are scared too so they aren't going to take any measures for sure. We've decided to carry umbrellas for now. I hope we find a permanent solution to this. About the superstition part, do you think it's true? Do they actually bring the downfall of the house they reside in? Ik it's superstitious, but tough times as these are making me really worried.

Ok I understand, but can anyone let me know if they really recognize someone and consider them as intruder?
I survived these similar attacks many times within last 10 days and today I saw it as near as in the video. I don't want to kill it because they might be surely having chicks in their nest.
Surprisingly it doesn't attack my wife or my child neither my father whenever we go on the rooftop but only Me .
    Any suggestions?
