Tyler Lauren Smith thank you for watching my video I really appreciate your comment!! I try to keep it real as possible without saying the wrong thing.
I’m retired Seabee Chief (2003) and I was fortunate enough to have been mentored by the WW2, Korean War types. I watched the benefits either change or disappear. Some would seem silly others are long forgotten, and worthy for another video. My advice to anyone wanting to enlist is as follows. 1. Don’t enlist 😂 2. If you do enlist have a plan A and B. If you flunk out of your A school, you’ll be a swabby or someone’s flunky. Do one tour , go to college and don’t look back. 3. If you for some reason reenlist, go to GNC and buy some skin thickening supplements, as well as some body armor for your back. As you climb higher in the enlisted ranks , deeper and more profound is the political process and back stabbing. The navy has a strong history of eating their own. 4. If you reenlist take the time to volunteer at your local VA or VFW and see how the veterans are being treated. You will be surprised. 5. Copy your medical file and personnel file when in possession. Log in all your injuries. I was injured 4 years into my career and was entered into my record and the government still doesn’t want to do their job. 6. Develop a strong relationship with your creator, we all need a strong anchor. Lastly when you exit the navy develop a mindset that no one cares about your military service, aside from other veterans. Don’t look back, only forward. Hope this puts everything in perspective.

It's a wonderful career, not every day is fun and games, but you can't lose your job unless you screw up. GO NAVY!

Hey Dave! In your opinion, would you have joined the navy right after high school or are you happy that you joined at a later age? Trying to figure out what I should do in my future.
Dman HD i am happy I waited to join because I got to experience college and living on my own and that made me a little more mature than the other sailors. If you just want to do 4 and get out I would join right after night school.
That part that you said you can retire in 20 years scared me though.. I'm thinking about joining, I'm about to be 20 years old, so I wouldn't get out until I'm 40 years old.. I'd spend my entire youth in service.. that's a little overwhelming to me. Like what if I have a girlfriend? Can I bring her to places with me or how does that work?
That is so true. That’s a long time to be in the military but a lot of people do it so it’s possible. Most of my 20s was spent in the navy but I don’t regret it tho. I seen people fly their spouse out the the country we went to and get a hotel with them. You would have to talk to your chain of command about it tho.
If you are stationed overseas, or your ship is homeported overseas, you have to be MARRIED if you want the Navy to sponsor (pay for travel, have access to Navy medical care, base privileges) your spouse to be with you. Some tours are meant to be unaccompanied. The government won't sponsor your family (spouse and kids) in these types of tours. If you are stationed in the states, it's easier to move a girlfriend, but at your own expense.
I went to my recruiter this past monday becuase i decided i wanted to join i go to meps this coming monday and its starting to hit starting to get nervous
Hi thank you for sharing, your video was very informative...What’s your thoughts on reapplying to rejoin the Navy after being separated in boot camp for failing your PFA????
Uylonda Daley thank you for watching. I would highly recommend rejoining or even try Air Force. The military in general is a great stepping stone with so many benefits!!
The Official Dave Harris thanks for your response i really appreciate it, was asking for my daughter she just got separated like 2 weeks before graduation and is currently in the process of coming home; she mentioned trying back
Some barracks are better than others. If you have it kids or married you can get approved to stay off base. If not you have to wait until you make E5 to get BAH.
The official Dave harris You decide🧐navy where you can travel but live on cramped ship or air force where you get nice state of the art gyms and your own room and lucky if you get to travel and better conditions.
The Official Dave Harris I twisted my ankle at work before shipping and the doctor took me off it for a few days. I’m good to go now, and I’m talking to a recruiter again. Also, weird as it is, I want it more than I did the first time. Funny how perspective can shift like that. Before? I was going through the motions. Now? I’m really looking forward to it.
Thank you brother, i don't plan on making a family in the navy till I'm 35 and I'm currently 19,i want to make money to invest back in my country (Cameroon) that way I'll have income coming from Cameroon and at the navy. I want a really cheap house which i can live in to cut my cost and a cheap reliable car which won't take me alot of money. I want to build story buildings back in my country for rents cause back here it really isn't that expensive due to the way the Navy pays,i can do that in a couple of years, i just have to livee below the comfortable life. Thanks once more
Regarding your con about higher ranks ignoring you for a simple good mourning, is that the rule in the military or were those particular people just being rude?
I already know they got stuff about the navy u don’t wanna say on RUclips , I fucked up and got in trouble but I got a general under honorable conditions, I’d never go back even if I could
Thank you for this video. What advice would give someone who is 32 years old and who wants to join the Navy? I've been wanting to do HM or CTN. I'm just looking for a change in my life. I think the military would change my life for the better. I've been studying the ASVAB but failed it so I have to wait 6 months.
Ryan Hazzard the military is a great stepping stone I highly recommend it. The money is good and there are great benefits!! Just keep studying. What did you score on the asvab?
The Official Dave Harris I scored low. I’m a little embarrassed to say. Screw it I scored a 31. The Math and arithmetic is killing me. I want to either do CTN or HM but I heard HMs don’t really rank that well.
Hospital Corpsman takes a while to make rank, but you are set up, with the right training, to get decent jobs in the civilian world. Cryptologic Techs are specialized for military work. After the service, you might be able to work for very specific contractors, not many job opportunities. However, if you make the Navy a career, like I did, it won't matter what opportunities are available on the outside, until you retire!
What’s good! FTS stands for full time support. Everyone I know that’s FTS loves it. It’s like your active duty but don’t have to go on deployment unless you want too. You will have a lot of time to spend with family! I’m tried to go FTS myself but they just stopped it for CS’s.
Luis Castro idk why they would say that, but idk too much about the reserves. I seen most people come in as a reservist go to bootcamp then A school then go back home to start the reservist life.
Great video! Do you think the NAVY is better than AIR FORCE ! I’m 24 would that still be good enough for me to get my 20 years in? Did u get sick living in all those countries
Ariee Duhh these are great questions. To be honest if I could go back in time I would join Air Force because I’m all about family and the Air Force is good at keeping family together. But navy does go on better deployments than any others branch. At 24 you still will retire at 44 which is still young. And no you don’t get sick in these countries you will enjoy it!!
Bradan AshleyWhitley you have to wait to you are on shore duty. So most likely you will have to re enlist after your first contract. That’s when I got it and I was 6 years in by then.
You have to know how to swim to an extent. They will tech you if you don’t know how but it could hold you back. It will make the process easier if you know how to swim before you go to basic training.
There are many jobs that will transfer over. Check out this link it may help you out. www.quora.com/What-navy-jobs-give-the-best-transition-to-civilian-life
You can join on the delay entry program and your recruiter, if close by, will help you run and work out. You go to boot camp (and you'll be ready for it) once you can pass the physical requirements.
Hey bro, i was thinking about joining, i had a good life that got destroyed, im now 36 and lost everything i spent all my years working for, im not sure if its too late or not, i think i can deal with the cons, the food is the scariest thing to me, anyway i want a new adventure for my life, a new experience, i like the navy as i love being on the ocean, and traveling, im not sure about being cooped up with some emotional teenagers but i can deal. Whats the cut off on age?
Adam Garrett it’s 36 for the navy. So I would hurry up and talk to a recruiter ASAP. Sounds like the navy is a great branch for you if you like to travel and big out on the ocean.
hi! Do you know any Navy nurses? My first go to was the Air Force but the Navy and Army are the only ones with a nurse candidate program to help out during school 💰. The Air Force doesn’t have it 😭..
If you haven't already found out, you need a bachelor's in nursing to be a Registered Nurse, which is an officer. If you have high school or Associate's degree, you may be eligible for Hospital Corpsman.
Dude not trying to rain on your parade but just because you did some time in the navy when you get out don't mean you can get a job anywhere I got out last September and I went to multiple interviews and was not chosen for the job
Philippe Okono oh cool!! You can apply for college as soon as you get to your first command after A school. You can take a class or two if you have time.
SelfMadeQuinn I think you can if your good enough. But that’s something you should ask the recruiter, they have more knowledge about that topic then I do.
If you go to the Nav as l Academy for college, play ball, and are good enough to be recruited for the pros, you MAY have you service obligation (pay back for free college) forgiven.
mar Robles usually when you get back from deployment they give you 14 days of leave like vacation time then you go back to work. Then it’s about 2 years before you go back on deployment.
mar Robles no your still on sea duty and you will go out to sea for underways which is like trainings. It could be a couple of day or a month it all depends. It’s just work ups to get you ready for the next deployment. Does that make sense?
You won’t go on shore duty until you finish you first 3 or 5 year contract and reenlist then you will get to go on shore duty and you won’t be on a ship that whole time.
Wes 1k I have braces and I leave for bootcamp in January. You have to have them off before you leave and they put them back on after boot camp and ait for free, but you can join and swear in with them on .

thank you for your service!!
Very good information and advice.
I should have done what you did.
Good job.
Thank you for watching!!
I went to my recruiter this past monday becuase i decided i wanted to join i go to meps this coming monday and its starting to hit starting to get nervous
Are you in the navy yet?
Great video! Got a lot of information here. Thank you for sharing
thank you for watching!!
Man I want to join the navy when I’m 18 but how to join?
Just find a navy recruiter in your area and go to the recruiting office.
Man....I'm still joining the Navy they travel the most .....and I wanna see more than Pensacola,FL
The Queen 1999 you definitely will get to travel in the navy. Are you from Pensacola?
Update on your journey?
Katisha Palmer who me?
Hi thank you for sharing, your video was very informative...What’s your thoughts on reapplying to rejoin the Navy after being separated in boot camp for failing your PFA????
Uylonda Daley thank you for watching. I would highly recommend rejoining or even try Air Force. The military in general is a great stepping stone with so many benefits!!
The Official Dave Harris thanks for your response i really appreciate it, was asking for my daughter she just got separated like 2 weeks before graduation and is currently in the process of coming home; she mentioned trying back
I definitely appreciate this video. I can’t wait!
SN95 Life thank you and thank you for watching!!
I’m considering if I should go the Navy way to become a firemen or should I become a EMT Paramedic then try to work my way up to Firemen?
Thank you for your services

Lol.. I’m glad my video helped you out. I try to be as honest as possible so that people understand how the navy is really like.

So preety much. Cons are being hella far away from your kids. Not looking how you want too.
Pros. Allot of benefits and a check every 15 days
yep pretty much. all to say i would join the military. its a great stepping stone.
I’m def gonna hate the barracks!! I hope I get approval to stay off base, I have money saved to afford it.
Some barracks are better than others. If you have it kids or married you can get approved to stay off base. If not you have to wait until you make E5 to get BAH.
Or you can pay out of pocket since you got money saved up i would get a roommate and get yall own place.
yeah, im going to pay out of pocket, I don't want a roommate. LOL@@theofficialdaveharris8794
@@FreshCort88 yes it sucks living with random people. Plus getting your room inspected every week gets old quick..lol.
The official Dave harris You decide🧐navy where you can travel but live on cramped ship or air force where you get nice state of the art gyms and your own room and lucky if you get to travel and better conditions.
Dime Ques I would prefer nice gym and own room!!
Welp I’m enlisting airforce thanks. And you just got your self a subscriber I’ll keep you updated on how It going.
Dime Ques thank you for the sub I’ll sub back. Let me know if you get into the Air Force. If I could go back in time I would join air force myself!!
I’m really thinking about it! I would LOVE TOO! Do you have to get any shots? What are the requirements?
Central Hunter you should join! Call your local navy recruiter they can tell you everything you needs to know.
The Official Dave Harris Ok thanks!!!! I’m thinking about it seriously!! Thanks man!!
Central Hunter your welcome
I joined, went though DEP, but had to back out. Now? I’m trying to go back in. Hopefully it’ll happen.
F1god04 why did you back out?
The Official Dave Harris I twisted my ankle at work before shipping and the doctor took me off it for a few days. I’m good to go now, and I’m talking to a recruiter again. Also, weird as it is, I want it more than I did the first time. Funny how perspective can shift like that. Before? I was going through the motions. Now? I’m really looking forward to it.
Great video man!!! Very informative.
David Camero thank you so much
Thank you brother, i don't plan on making a family in the navy till I'm 35 and I'm currently 19,i want to make money to invest back in my country (Cameroon) that way I'll have income coming from Cameroon and at the navy.
Blue Moon they just being plain old rude!! Most feel like you beneath them too me.
That's a shame. It wasn't my typical experience, but then again, I'm friendly and approachable.
Good vid bro I’m joining when I turn 18 next year💪🏽💯
iDropBotS_GT Good luck bro just stay in shape and stay out of trouble. Thanks for watching.
KG&TM NATION you joining at 18 ? I’m joining at 17 bro 👍🏼
I already know they got stuff about the navy u don’t wanna say on RUclips , I fucked up and got in trouble but I got a general under honorable conditions, I’d never go back even if I could
Yeah it’s hella stuff I want to say but I can’t. The military not for everybody especially not the navy. How long was you in?
Yep. When you fuck up, there's always a price to pay. Even in civvy land.
Ryan Hazzard shid I scored a 40. But HMs don’t really rank thank fast Like you said.
Wussup bro aye I ship out as yn fts. Dec 17 2020 do u know any fts sailors? If so how’s the life for the sailor for family life?
What’s good! FTS stands for full time support. Everyone I know that’s FTS loves it. It’s like your active duty but don’t have to go on deployment unless you want too. You will have a lot of time to spend with family! I’m tried to go FTS myself but they just stopped it for CS’s.
Glad youre back. Here to help the algorithm lol
Yes sir!!

I thought braces are only covered under certain circumstances
If your teeth are in bad shape you can qualify for braces.
Hey man im going to join the navy reserves and my recruiter is saying to enter as active and after a month ill go reserve
Luis Castro idk why they would say that, but idk too much about the reserves. I seen most people come in as a reservist go to bootcamp then A school then go back home to start the reservist life.
Thank you
Your welcome!
Thank you. This was very helpful
Cristian Gomez your very welcomed
Yeah Man I'm trying to decide whether I join the Navy or Marine Corps
Cristian Gomez go Air Force!!
What about Egypt?
Bro did i just hear Cameroon?? I'm in Cameroon right now!! Please I'm begging you,How do i get in??
after bootcamp , when can i get my braces ? also when did you get yours
Bradan AshleyWhitley you have to wait to you are on shore duty. So most likely you will have to re enlist after your first contract. That’s when I got it and I was 6 years in by then.
If you were to do it again, would you have gone to a different branch?
Duke Leroy of course I would join air force hands down.
Have you met any master at arms? If so, do you know if they enjoyed their job? Great video btw!
yes the ones i know love it and you do be out to sea a lot as a MA.

Hm would you recommend navy or Air Force
Air Force no questions
Knowing how to swim is it a key factor to enter the navy? i don't know how to..beside i'am from Cameroon
You have to know how to swim to an extent. They will tech you if you don’t know how but it could hold you back. It will make the process easier if you know how to swim before you go to basic training.
How did you add the letters and words

Hi what jobs can I find in the navy that can transfer in the civilian world or what branch has the most jobs that can transfer to the civilian world
There are many jobs that will transfer over. Check out this link it may help you out. www.quora.com/What-navy-jobs-give-the-best-transition-to-civilian-life
Are recruitments year long? I’m considering joining but i am hella out of shape so i need some time to actually get the ball rolling physically 😅
I’m sorry but what do you mean by recruitment year?
No I don’t know any nurses personally, but the navy does have good programs for corpsman (nurses).
If you haven't already found out, you need a bachelor's in nursing to be a Registered Nurse, which is an officer. If you have high school or Associate's degree, you may be eligible for Hospital Corpsman.
I get the community showers during boot camp but is it the same as you are actually in the navy?
Killer Keemstar lol..no you get to shower alone. You will have a single person shower with a door for your privacy.
The Official Dave Harris so its only boot camp for the community showers?
Killer Keemstar yes sir
Do you shoot a m16 or hold a gun on the ship
When your on watch you hold a gun. Only on watch tho.
My daughter is three
I have no friends or family to watch her as I combat, does the navy provide childcare or a special program for our children
Dude not trying to rain on your parade but just because you did some time in the navy when you get out don't mean you can get a job anywhere I got out last September and I went to multiple interviews and was not chosen for the job
True but military experience does help differentiate you from other applicants which can never hurt.
you might need to touch up on your resume.
i agree with you you still have to put in work no job will be handed to you.
If I drown I drown but I doubt it
The Queen 1999 you won’t drown they have trained navy divers watching you.
Yooh dude, I m Cameroonians too. I ll leave for bootcamp next week. Question bro which moment or time when your are inside can I apply for college ?
Philippe Okono oh cool!! You can apply for college as soon as you get to your first command after A school. You can take a class or two if you have time.
Thanks bro
Philippe Okono your welcome
I have 1 question, If I play basketball in the navy will I have a chance to go pro? I don’t know what to do with my life right now
SelfMadeQuinn I think you can if your good enough. But that’s something you should ask the recruiter, they have more knowledge about that topic then I do.
The Official Dave Harris thank you
SelfMadeQuinn your welcome
If you go to the Nav as l Academy for college, play ball, and are good enough to be recruited for the pros, you MAY have you service obligation (pay back for free college) forgiven.
Hello there brother im going into the navy soon i was wondering how much time you would be off between deployments on average?
mar Robles usually when you get back from deployment they give you 14 days of leave like vacation time then you go back to work. Then it’s about 2 years before you go back on deployment.
@@theofficialdaveharris8794 so did you have any sort of shore duty while you waited those two years to redeploy?
mar Robles no your still on sea duty and you will go out to sea for underways which is like trainings. It could be a couple of day or a month it all depends. It’s just work ups to get you ready for the next deployment. Does that make sense?
@@theofficialdaveharris8794 yeah that makes sense to always have training
You won’t go on shore duty until you finish you first 3 or 5 year contract and reenlist then you will get to go on shore duty and you won’t be on a ship that whole time.
Aye fam I plan on joining but I heard I can't join with braces on
Wes 1k idk how it work if you already got braces and trying to join but once you get in the navy you can get braces. I’ll ask around tho.
Wes 1k I have braces and I leave for bootcamp in January. You have to have them off before you leave and they put them back on after boot camp and ait for free, but you can join and swear in with them on .
