A little context for this one... This is song "69" on the physical CD. After "Flood" plays, it cycles 1 second blank track, after blank track until song 69 starts with these chopping sounds. It's quite the profound experience to happen upon this track. The ending is one of most intriguing spoken words I have ever heard. Good react, man. GG
Since you got to the end of this album I just want you to know that on future albums there sets of songs that are intended the be played directly into each other. Almost like an interlude. I think that it would be best if you were to react to these songs in 1 video and immediately back to back. This is how tool intended the songs to be listened to. The sets of songs on the aenima album are: Useful idiot/Forty six & 2, Intermission/Jimmy, (-) Ions/Third eye. On lateralus they are: Eon Blue Apocalypse/The patient, Mantra/Schism, Parabol/Parabola, Disposition/Reflection/Triad (Oh baby a triple :) ). On 10000 Days: Wings for Marie (Pt 1)/10,000 Days (Wings Pt 2), Lost keys/Rosetta Stoned, Intension/Right in Two. Easter egg on 10000 days album as well (still unknown intentional or not). it was discovered that adding Wings For Marie (Pt. 1) to Viginti Tres made for a piece of music 11 minutes and 13 seconds long - which, as it happens, was the exact same length as 10,000 Days (Wings Pt. 2). Playing both of these compositions simultaneously sounds like the recipe for insanity, yet doing so unlocks a new ‘secret song’ that somehow fits together. you can find vids of people you have already edited this songs together. Or you can do it yourself idfk. Anyways love your vids.

I’ve always heard the monologue at the end as the internal thoughts of the Zodiac killer...it’s horribly frightening to drift off to near sleep with the crickets and to be shaken awake by this. It’s only happened to me about 4 or 5 thousand times.
7:15 "honestly this is one of the strangest songs I've ever heard in my entire life... and I have no idea how this can possibly go on for another 10mins" lmao I tried watching you every step of the way after that point but I have to say I skipped a bit LOL 12:22 you're right sir 😂
I've heard it said that Maynard likes to troll the fans. This is probably true.. some of the things I've seen him acting in shows he has a great sense of humor. Your reaction was well done considering you didn't know what was going on. A+! ❤️👍
In the 90'a you had to sneak a camera into a concert and it became really popular to do so. The rumor back then was Maynard started standing in front of a screen so when you took a picture you couldn't get a good one. That was back before the screens and lights became a more prominent part of their shows.
I remember when I first discovered this secret "song". I was *ahem* not sober, and I let the album play on not realizing the music had technically stopped. When I heard the voice start telling the story I thought someone was next to me when I knew I was alone. It really freaked me out lol. But this is hands down my favorite ending to any album I've heard so far. The poem is strange and poignant and satisfying, and every time I listen to it now I feel relaxed and fulfilled, idk why. Anyway, great reactions, I love watching you go through my favorite band's catalogue and I can't wait to see/hear more.
ah man! you will never know the anticipation and the weirdness of seeing the track numbers going all the way up from the last song to the number 69 on your cd player, skipping songs that were not there to finally get to that song! and funny, to me it was always a field but during the day when it's a hot and dry one! you saying the day was starting made it more interesting to me... i saw colours in "my" sky i didn't see before! thanks for being a real trooper, staying all the way through that song, as you were training to become part of the T00L army! now you know! :)
The spoken part at the end was a answering machine message left by Maynard's landlord "bill the landlord" it can be interpreted through the eyes and perspective of a serial killer they have that mind frame that everything belongs to them etc
the very end was always so interesting to me ever since I first heard it as a teenager back when this album came out. trying to figure out what is happening. Imagining the little excerpt of narration and trying to figure out what the greater context of the story was. It always had a dark connotation to me... like a murderer waking up in a ditch with amnesia and then wandering off until he saw two people in the distance... and red was now his color. who knows!?
I personally love the message of This is necessary, Life feeds on life, feeds on life. It's true and how we are all here. I like to tell the story that I went and saw Tool in 1998 and they opened their set with Maynard dressed in a suit and a blond wig on. Danny's bass drum had a upside down cross. Maynard came out and said he was Reverend Maynard and then proceed to lead the crowd in a chant of "Fuck Jesus Christ". Some people mistake that for him being Satanic or some shit but he simply wanted people to get out of their comfort zone. It was the best show I've ever seen
You reacted the same way we all did buddy. Congratulations youve officially been trolled by Tool. A right of passage if you will. Welcome to the family. In all seriousness tho they like to end some of their albums on weird interlude/sonic art pieces to let you reflect on the album i guess among other interpretations. Sometimes its questionable but still an interesting thing to do. Respect for letting the whole play out bro.
@@floridabelle It's exactly the hidden song he's thinking of. There's a message at the end of this song that's a message from his landlord. It's after all the crickets.
This isn't actually as song, it's what I term one of their "Art Pieces". This piece I find unsettling, past the Rev. Maynard part. Yes, that was Maynard shooting a piano with a shot gun in a parking garage. They have a lot of "Art Pieces" scattered around their albums. Some of them actually function as intros to songs, even though they seem separate. Some Tool music should be reacted to together, like The Holy Trinity: Disposition-Reflection-Triad, or Parabol/Parabola.
I think I heard that the ending monologue was written by a friend of Maynard’s that used to write crazy nonsensical letters to him? Or maybe it was voicemails
You want to hear a wierd song? Listen to Pink Floyd's SEVERAL SMALL FURRY ANIMALS GATHERED TOGETHER IN A CAVE AND GROOVING WITH A PICT" That is literally the name of the song and SUPER WIERD! I know this is three years old but loving every minute. 👍🏼
I explained some of that in the first video- the intolerance reaction. Strongly worded recommendations from some friends and a knowledge of a few songs prior to this would sum it up though. Or just saying to enjoy the drumming haha
This is an early form of trolling. They have a crazy sense of humor.

“What just happened,” you ask? You’ve been baptized by the Reverend Maynard, that’s what happened. 🤘

So the 'shotgun sound effect' thing? They actually recorded themselves shooting a piano with a shotgun.
Every genius must be a little crazy :)

Apparently that message at the end was left by Maynard's landlord on his answering machine. Creepy shit, honestly an unsettling story.
@Zurp This isn't the one. Message to Harry Manback is the one that was left on the answering machine.

It's Bill Manspeaker from Green Jelly, Maynard lived in his building.
I laughed out loud when you said 'i'm wondering if it's this for 10 minutes, it might be.....oh my god'

Yes, it's weird because the song is totally a troll, however, that story at the end gets creepier the more you hear it!
After Flood on the album there is a ton of tracks one second long with nothing but silence just so they could have this hidden “song” as track 69
What? What? Yep thats tool sometimes...the ultimate trolls..youd have to see some of Maynards earlier interviews
DAMN YOU! LET THE RABBITS WEAR GLASSES!
One of their better songs. A study in sounds. Crank it up when it gets quiet
Ever wonder what tinnitus is like? 8:40 to 13:43.
I first heard this in 1997 or '8.
Several reactions to this exist.
15:50 my exact reaction as well
If you listen to it on the original CD it friggs up your CD player and makes that part of the experience
