    Proud to present the follow-up to my video on the stoic philosophy of The Shawshank Redemption (ruclips.net/video/Sbgpjcf-i8I/видео.html). Back when I made the first video on stoicism, I went with The Shawshank Redemption because I thought that film was better suited to explain the basics of stoicism, whereas Gladiator was more interesting for more specific subjects.
    As such, this new video zooms in on a few specific subjects that will hopefully build on the foundation laid in the first one and give you a better understanding of both Stoic philosophy and the story of Gladiator. What other films do you think are great examples of stoic philosophy? Let me know below!

    I loved this Epictetus quote you used;
    "If someone tried to take control of your body and make you a slave, you would fight for freedom. Yet how easily you hand over your mind to anyone who insults you. When you dwell on their words and let them dominate your thoughts, you make them your master."

      "Regard it, then, among your greatest blessings that you have had an excellent brother(father): you need not think for how much longer you might have had him, but for how long you did have him. Nature gave him to you, as she gives others to other brothers, not as an absolute property, but as a loan...Rejoice, then, that you have had so good a brother(father), and be grateful for having had the use and enjoyment of him, though it was for a shorter time than you wished." - Seneca
      Growing up in the inner city, I've had to deal with much loss of both friends and loved ones. It wasn't until I turned my focus away from lamenting my "loss" but instead looked towards my "gain" that I came to accept it. I was blessed to know these people and should be grateful to have had the good fortune to learn from them in the short time we are here. I learned to reframe their passing not as "I have lost them", but rather "They have returned[to Nature, who had loaned them to me]". Death is a natural thing and will come for us all eventually. In accordance with Nature, it is outside of our control. Live with the principles and values that your father has instilled in you and he will continue to live on in you and with you. Who among us could ask for a greater honor? I wish you all the best in your journey.

      I had to re-watch the video to regain the context in which I made this comment. It is a beautiful video for a timeless classic. Drives at the core of stoicism, which is apolitical. Also the first comment which has had more than 10 upvotes on any platform, lol.
      Government overreach is also timeless, but that is because the human element, the wonderfully flawed element, is ever present. No man is truly suited for power; those who seek it are the most unsuited for it. Democracy mitigates that element, but only if the people continue to believe and remember the flaws inherent in every human being. Most relevantly, that people "in general are quick to believe that which they wish to be true."
      It is not true that the US election was rigged, no matter how much one wishes it to be. What is true is that every person who has sought power is ultimately unsuited for it, in which case, we ought to be suspicious of anyone who seeks out that authority.

    god damn it, still you make me cry at your videos. I see myself and my closest in the general templates you lay out as "friends" in this one. Wonderful insight, though I already plumbed Gladiator for all its philosophical value. Great video!

    Stoicism is so inspiring to me. I saw somewhere someone wrote "power currupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely(except Marcus Aurelius)" I agree.

    Thank you creating this video. I found this video shortly after my father passed away. The words of wisdom within it helped me ineffably. I learned of Stoicism and began my journey of learning, reading and incorporating Stoicism into my thoughts, actions and temperance. My father passed away 15 weeks ago and this video helps me remember my purpose and helps center me. I come back to this video often. I have found a very helpful way of living because of your production. Thank you again. I am new to this channel. but I've got to say I love all the movies esp. sci-fi. Your commentary on the movies Arrival, Prometheus & Alien Covenant was absolutely exhilarating and scary all at the same time. I never tire of watching the movie Gladiator. Your words were so inspiring & insightful. I was brought to tears. Though I have not read The works of Marcus Aurelius nor Meditations 1..I hope to soon. I'm looking forward to listening and learning the stoicism presented in The Shawshank Redemption..aka " Get busy living or get busy dying." Made quite an impact on my life a decade ago. Since I obtained a cellphone in 2015... I've been intellectually & emotionally seduced by the wisdom of the ancients via the RUclips channel. Learning about Stoicism.. { having ALWAYS believed myself to be a bit too emotional/subjective female } has since offered several ways to be calmer & more disciplined. Oh yes... I don't know exactly how & when it was that your channel showed up.. but I was intrigued immediately to find someone with such a compelling voice ( reminded me of the French actor Peter Lorre in those black + white film noir classics ) as you were about to render a marvelous discourse on the music of the Lord of The Rings. 🤗 And I became a subscriber. Can't wait to watch/listen to EVERYTHING you have to speak on that Trilogy esp. ❣️ Thank you for your time & research. I'm glad I had decided to stop binging on television cable network service n discontinue it altogether. 😉

    What an impeccable follow up to Meditations I. Stoicism is something I've only discovered recently, perhaps too late in life, but soon enough all the same! And the fact the greatest movies of all time, the greatest stories, the way they tap into the stoic conception of the universe and our role in it, it's beyond coincidence. There is something life-changing and affirming going on here. Thank you for shining a light on it.

    This was the first video of yours that I have ever seen. I'm very impressed & thankful with the brilliant quality & sincere beauty of the ancient wisdom presented here. So many people loved this movie for the action, but I wonder how many truly understood the deep stoic moral lessons that were peppered in between the battle scenes.
    I had studied the Tao Te Ching in the past, a wonderful literary treasure that helped to change my disposition towards a more positive & fruitful life. Much of what I read there is echoed here in this beautifully crafted video. Much respect & admiration for your work! Namaste!

    Thank you for this video. In a period of my life in enduring corporate politics of more than a year - because of the control that was being conducted by those in seated positions (that my peers soon found that I was right), I had listened to this everyday. The message is powerful, invoking, clear, inspiring, and benefitting.
    I had endured office gaslighting / bullying, being taken sides against, had gossips and ill rumours spread that I did not do, and even manipulation conducted against me yet with every faith and trial I endured and passed. Bless you for this creation.

I started learning more about Stoicism and applying it, along with spiritually, to my life. I now have amazing growing control and power over my life. Everything is not perfect but I feel like I've progressed so much faster. I wish I'd known about this sooner.

    Should end at 10.22 scoring out that fantastic soundtrack, amazing video. You are the greatest youtuber out there. The quality of your research,the subjects,the combination of people on every breakdown & your narration. Please do another on The Grey pt2 so much emotion both in the movie and your first breakdown. Liam does an truly amazing prestation considering the tragedy in his life just before that movie and it floats in his performance to make it like a black hole, honestly my favourite movie of all-time, in the shadows it covering so many questions on our struggle with lifes meaning. And the best soundtrack ever.
