@@asensicule Thanks for the recommendation! He's definitely good, but his performance leans heavily on stylization over virtuosity. Seven years later, I'm still convinced this guy is the definitive Judas.
The gold standard for this musical is not the album, but the movie version. Carl Anderson is peerless. But this singer Drew sounds amazing, and it's the only other Judas I've liked.
This is fucking rad. To me, his end of verse choices to alter the melodies ("it was beautiful but NOW it's sour") are some of the coolest parts of this. No one else sings those lines that way.
I'm with you...I don't know why you would get any thumbs down...Carl Anderson is irreplacable as judas...the passion in his voice was unreal...I will say Drew Sarich is the 2nd best Judas...he's really good...but Carl is a legend
Drew Sarich is the very BEST!!!! No one is better....:) So that's what I call voice!!!! This rock tone in his is so great.... I am so impressed...everyday when I hear him sing, I melt away....Love is in the air
Drew Sarich is just awesome. Even though I love him in all of his roles, Jesus and Judas just fit perfectly to him. So excited to see him as Jesus in april!!!
One of my favorite I interpretations of Judas! Thehe way Drew personalizes certain parts is just amazing... 💖 Right up there with Carl Anderson and Murray Head.
Actually, Drew's range is unbelievable and the ways in which he can use his voice are unique. He was even nicknamed "The voice" by his collegues in Austria. :) Also, does the high note at the very end sound like a screaming part to you? :)
I love Drew not only cuz he's a great singer- i dare say most of the musical-stars r great singer, even though they show that they're still human from time to time- but also cuz he's a wonderful actor. I've never seen him live so far but i've watched every vid i could get and enjoyed his genuine mimics and gestics and i love them. U never grow tired of watching him, especially if he's illustrating the feelings in his songs... T.T I WANT TO WATCH HIM LIVE!!!
This man just rocks! From musicals in english to german. He is so unique. He goes from Les MIs to Lestat to JCS to various shows in Germany! He rocks!! I am a huge fan.
Wow, I really like his take on the song! I'm so used to the movie soundtrack so I generally prefer a little bit more growl or scream to the song, but by presenting his own take on the song and showing off a great range this actor definitely wins my approval.
This is amazing... I like this portrayal of Judas... I love it when I watch someone perform a song so famous in such a different and amazing way... It's refreshing
My 2nd favorite rendition of this song behind Carl Anderson, which is impressive cause there are some phenomenal Judases out there. I’ll never get over the high note at 3:34
Drew Sarich is the best Judas I've heard, HANDS DOWN. I wish I could have seen him live. I like his Judas more than his Jesus although his Jesus is good too. And the way they had Judas staged in this production and his loving interactions with Jesus up until the very end is just beautiful. They really nailed Judas' character here, and Drew is just amazing.
i just watched a video of drew sarich singing this very song in a JCS production 10 years ago and he is so much better than he was then. its amazing and extremely humbling that even drew sarich is still learning and growing and it makes me respect him a thousand times more. he's incredible.
Love It!!!! I am lucky enough to have seen Ben Vereen do the role on Broadway with Jeff Feholt and Ted Neeley playing Jesus ( saw it a few times). Yes, Murray Head's version is great. But I am happy to see a great singer a few generations later making this song his own. Drew, you are up there on the top of my list.
Drew!!! Seen him in Rudolf and i couldn't believe he was american when i found out about his name... his german's so good... o.o And he's an unbelievable singer and actor... ^^
this guy is good. I really like him second to Carl and Murray. Carl had something that no other Judas had though. Listen to his version. He has rhythm and soul. Good example of Carls emotion is "every word you say today gets twisted around some other way" and "nazareths favourite son". Carl doesn't sing it, he "emotions" it. One thing that I give this guy credit for. He is a damn good actor and has presence for it. Good job.
I tried out for this role myself once. I made a hit at the audition but unfortunatly they usuall have a more well known actor lined up for Jesus and Judus. I did make Peter as well as some extras and singing parts. You may have to take some other rolls before you get Judas. Good luck man!
Drew is the absolute best Judas I have ever heard. Is voice is incedible, and he know exactly how to use it. I would really like to go and se him live. If anyone know where he performs. (close to Denmark)
This is really spectacular. The actor takes an approach towards Judas that I haven't really seen, much less pulled off so successfully. I'm tremendously impressed with his vocal range, and his improvisational timing. Bottom line, though: I really loved this performance, and I think that it adds something new to the role. If not on-par with Carl Anderson's and Jerome Pradon's portrayal, it's certainly very, very close, IMO. Thanks for sharing with us, Silivren!
I tried out for Judas once. I nailed the audition but unfortunately they often have a more known actor lined up for Jesus and Judus. I did make Peter as well as some extras and singing parts. You may have to take some other rolls before you get Judas. Good luck man!
I've played Judas, in three different productions, to a fair amount of acclaim but this guy makes me look like an amatuer. The best Judas I think I've ever heard. WOW!
Creo que es lejos el mejor actor integral que existe en mucho tiempo, luego de verlo en muchos musicales, y además sabiendo que ha hecho multiples roles...me encantaría verlo actuando esta obra con Steve Balsamo como Jesús.
Can't believe I haven't commented on this yet, since it's the one that made me a Drew fan. Oh man, if loving Judas is a crime, lock me up right now. Seriously, Drew has made this role his OWN. His voice is sublime, his musicality/phrasing are unique -- so contemporary and interesting -- and his intense acting just kicks the ass of all other Judases I've ever seen. Thank you SO much for posting this, Silivren.
If you like this version you should listen to one with Drew as Jesus and Serkan Kaya as Judas. The songs are all on youtube. you can find them when you type in "jesus christ superstar drew 2005". Really worth listening, I'm listening to nothing else atm :D
Lol... It couldn't be the fact that he has had an incredible amount of vocal training. The man graduated from Boston Conservatory, a very prestigious vocal institute, in 1997. In 1998, he started performing in an Off Broadway production and in the same year worked on a workshop of Jesus Christ Superstar playing Judas. Simply put, he has had a lot of time to perfect this role with a large amount of training to back it. Don't make up false facts because he's talented. He's just a gifted Tenor
:D your nickname really corresponds to that what you're saying, I like that, anywhay, when it comes to JCS I'm unstopable, too(I've been listening to this song 300000 times and it is still so impressive)
I think Drew Sarich's timing and inflections are inspired by his rock background, and he does them very well. Perhaps his Missouri childhood had something to do with them, too. I agree with you about the non-native speakers. Have you ever listened to Serkan Kaya's version of this song? I love his voice, yet I can't help but smile at his accent (admittedly, it's much better than my German one).
The most effortless, passionate, sincere, and relatable Judas I've heard. This guy is incredible.
Agreed.
Listen Camilo sexto, Namaste
@@asensicule Thanks for the recommendation! He's definitely good, but his performance leans heavily on stylization over virtuosity. Seven years later, I'm still convinced this guy is the definitive Judas.
This guy was born to play Judas.. He has such amazing possibilities to become a greates musiacal singer of all time.
Ι can sing this waaaay better 😁😁😁
1:51 That's the best that line has ever been sung. The note choice he made on "But every word you say today" fits even better than the original run.
The gold standard for this musical is not the album, but the movie version. Carl Anderson is peerless. But this singer Drew sounds amazing, and it's the only other Judas I've liked.
There is so.ething to be said for the way the album version starts off restrained and gradually gets more and more desperate
He makes it sound so bloody easy...
This is fucking rad. To me, his end of verse choices to alter the melodies ("it was beautiful but NOW it's sour") are some of the coolest parts of this. No one else sings those lines that way.
My favorite change is the high note at the end of “Yes it’s all, GONE SOOOUR”
I think Drew Sarich is a really good singer and actor. I hope he is still working in musicals as he is really talented.
He is, however in German speaking countries ;) He currently plays Rocky in Hamburg and just played Jesus in Vienna!
Kate Ermacora he's coming back to vienna to play jesus in jcs again in april :)
Kate Ermacora And he will play the count in Dance of the Vampires again in Vienna :) ! Now he is doing Vivaldi (new musical).
yes! i watched vivaldi on friday and he was just awesome, it was really touching. weekend in vienna for tanz der vampire already booked! :)
Laura Molnar Wow! I will watch it at the derniere :) ! And the Vampires as well, of course haha.
OMG Drew's Mom is my french teacher!
Haha, he's pretty amazing.
In Missouri?
It's so frustrating that there are no renditions even close to this good on Spotify
soooo good. hes an amazing singer!!!
5/5 i would love to see this performace
Hey Alfie ahahah
I'm with you...I don't know why you would get any thumbs down...Carl Anderson is irreplacable as judas...the passion in his voice was unreal...I will say Drew Sarich is the 2nd best Judas...he's really good...but Carl is a legend
i LOVE the orchestration of this version
Drew Sarich is the very BEST!!!! No one is better....:)
So that's what I call voice!!!! This rock tone in his is so great.... I am so impressed...everyday when I hear him sing, I melt away....Love is in the air
I just LOVE the tone to this guy's voice. I've grown up listening to Carl and more recently Jerome Pradon; this guy has them all beat in my book.
By far my favorite Judas. Drew Sarich is one of the most talented actors/singers imo.
Drew Sarich is just awesome. Even though I love him in all of his roles, Jesus and Judas just fit perfectly to him. So excited to see him as Jesus in april!!!
The best version of this.
Awesome singing of an already awesome piece of music! And the acting is also high.
Thank you for this!
This was a great rendition!
When I grow up, I want to be Drew Sarich. He's so good!
See ? Every once in a while, a singer takes an awesome song, and turns it into his/her own. Drew did with To much heaven.
Jesus looks like white belt karate student. :) This performance has something to it that makes it enjoyable.
One of the great things about Superstar is how much the bass guitar gets to play around - listen around 1:10
Great voice and powerful lungs! I'm still partial to Carl's version but this is a very close second.
One of my favorite I interpretations of Judas! Thehe way Drew personalizes certain parts is just amazing... 💖 Right up there with Carl Anderson and Murray Head.
are you kidding me?
this is the best Judas Ive ever seen
As if there was any doubt in my mind before that Drew is absolutely amazing... he killed it.
Fantastic! Absolutely the best rendition of this song I have ever heard!
Dude killed it. Or should I say--crucified it?
I hate it. Now shut up and take my upvote. :-p
Actually, Drew's range is unbelievable and the ways in which he can use his voice are unique.
He was even nicknamed "The voice" by his collegues in Austria. :)
Also, does the high note at the very end sound
like a screaming part to you? :)
We call him Nasenbär bc hes singing extremly nasal what sounds awful
I love Drew not only cuz he's a great singer- i dare say most of the musical-stars r great singer, even though they show that they're still human from time to time- but also cuz he's a wonderful actor. I've never seen him live so far but i've watched every vid i could get and enjoyed his genuine mimics and gestics and i love them. U never grow tired of watching him, especially if he's illustrating the feelings in his songs... T.T I WANT TO WATCH HIM LIVE!!!
My mind is clearer now: great arrangements and amazing voice. I love it.
wow...i have seen this performed 4 times, and this is the best live performance of this song i have ever heard. great job
I totally agree with you; the new arrangement of the music with the contemporary interpretation of the vocals just makes for an amazing production
This is how Judas should sound! Drew is AMAZING! THE BEST in my book!
This man just rocks! From musicals in english to german. He is so unique. He goes from Les MIs to Lestat to JCS to various shows in Germany! He rocks!! I am a huge fan.
The best performance of Judas vocally x acting , hands down!
Wow, I really like his take on the song! I'm so used to the movie soundtrack so I generally prefer a little bit more growl or scream to the song, but by presenting his own take on the song and showing off a great range this actor definitely wins my approval.
The best cover on "Heavens" I ever heard.
EPIC!! Amazing voice.
There is no telling how my joy should be expressed in English.
This is wonderful performance.
Best version. I love this video so much!
He´s just simply amazing! The best version I´ve ever heard!
This is amazing... I like this portrayal of Judas... I love it when I watch someone perform a song so famous in such a different and amazing way... It's refreshing
the last minute of this... you'll never hear it done better
Thank you so much for posting this...
Quando ho sentito la prima volta questa versione ho pensato fosse pazzo a cambiare l'originale; mi ha dapprima allibita, incuriosita, poi emozionata. This singer NAILED IT! Great job. Glad I clicked on!!!
DREW SARICH is everything!!! Take notes.
Wow!!! What a voice!!! A really origanal interpretation aswell. If I was a singer this is what id want to sound like!!!!!!
Hello. Drew is currently playing the title role in the Vienna production of Rudolf. I'd say it's pretty close to Danmark :)
My 2nd favorite rendition of this song behind Carl Anderson, which is impressive cause there are some phenomenal Judases out there. I’ll never get over the high note at 3:34
Stunning performance 🙌 goosebumps ✨✨
This is a wonderful version of ths song...still relavant after all these years!
What an awesome performance! It's blowing my mind. The strings setting in at 2:30 are making me shiver.
I've never heard this version before. I'm not crazy about some of his phrasing but he definitely has the right mix of singing and acting. Great voice!
drew is the best best best best best Judas. no one can ever top his voice. omg. hes my hero.
Drew Sarich is the best Judas I've heard, HANDS DOWN. I wish I could have seen him live. I like his Judas more than his Jesus although his Jesus is good too. Drew is awesome!! love his pation and understang in all he doses
A really fresh and original approach to this song!
Not only are these vocals amazing, but the orchestration is incredibly intense - new string parts etc.

Hey! This production is from Amstetten, Austria 2005. I'm glad that you like it :)
This video absolutely WREAKS.....of WIN!!!
This is amazing. It seems like a whole different song the way he sings it, but in a good way.
I love this version, so much emotion and power.
very good...it's the performance than i was finding..perfect sing in his voice.
The song is actually in its proper key...Drew's placement is so good that the notes come out unstrained and sound easier.
The absolute best version of this song. Drew sings fantastically.
Drew Sarich is friggin awesome!!! I never have ever heard such pipes on a dude before! Go Judas!
Very nice version!!!

wwuaaauuuu this guy is fantastic!!!!!Terrific!!!!
That was awesome. Great job.
This is really good. I'm seriously loving the vocals and the intrumental arrangement is done really well.
chills. chills chills chills chills chills. and an incapability of forming any sort of coherent sentence. that's what results from this performance.
I tried out for Judas once. I nailed the audition but unfortunately they often have a more known actor lined up for Jesus and Judus. I did make Peter as well as some extras and singing parts. You may have to take some other rolls before you get Judas. Good luck man!

I absolutely adore Drew Sarich.
It's a good performances...and Sarich has a very beautiful voice!
best version ever this is soo cool
Wonderful, Drew is hitting the notes with ease. Would love to hear the entire show.
Brilliant. The man is brilliant.
Amazing.
Carl Anderson is beeter
But, God, do I love Drew's voice.
I think he'd be a great Jesus, really.
Amazing range.
