For those of you who don't know, Fist of the Big Dipper, er, North Star started out way back in 1983. It had a big impact on a lot of Japanese works. For instance, Street Fighter has Vega/Balrog and Bison/Vega using moves and mannerisms based off of Yuda, and Chun-Li's One Hundred Crack Kick is based off of Kenshirou's One Hundred Crack Fist. All things considered, it would be hard to think up Japanese works that haven't been influenced by Hokuto No Ken.
+hyogaiceheart Don't forget he has Sylvester Stallone's hair and jaw line, and the resemblance is unmistakable with the sunglasses Kenshiro wears at times. All the while this character is dressed like Mad Max [Mel Gibson].
+Rouenne I love how his Hokuto Hyakurestu Ken is litterally a 100 hit combo since the special move literally means "Hundred Crack Fist of The North Star"
'Of This Life I Have Not A Single Regret!' -Punches The Skies And 'Practically' Punches The Heavens- That is burned into my memory forever, I have never seen such a brilliant death of a character ever.
It's interesting how many of the moves are moments straight from the series (Raoh's antiair counter, Shin and Jagi's Fatal KOs, just about everything Jagi uses for that matter...).
emp100k yeah I'm surprised Heart is in this. he dies in like 2 episodes, he even dies in this game's intro. doesn't even live long enough to meet most of the characters in the game other than Shin and Ken.
I was about to complain about the techno (I think) music and that I wouldn't get to hear the awesome "You Wa Shock" fatal KO music. Thankfully you did let it play so thanks for that ^_^
It's not a lie; You don't see it in this collection because you don't see the stage, but Shu's in the background of Souther's stage, in front of the giant pyramid, carrying the capstone to the top.
that was so unexpected when that happened, caught me off guard at the fact that that got in and stayed in. I don't think it was even shown in the Mangga even.
@bigmelo19 I believe it stems from the original series where she and Rei are lovers. After a fight to the death with Yuda, Rei is also mortally wounded. After Rei dies, Kenshiro sets the house that Rei died in ablaze so that no one will see his body. So basically it shows the house which her lover died in, burning.
@SilentStalkerX That clip is Indeed from the series. That fight with Raoh takes place before the fight Yuda. Rei looses to Roah but isn't killed - Raoh hits Rei with a Hokuto Shinken technique to hit one of his key pressure points. He looses the fight and is fatally wounded but doesn't die. Rather he has an indeterminate time to survive. He later fights Yuda which is what actually kills him, good and proper.
The "Fatal KO" song I usually hear playing after the end credits of any HNK episode, where they were talking about the next episode coming up. It may have been played during the show, IDK.
It's a reference to a scene in _Fist of the North Star_ where Rei destroys Mamiya's clothes to defeat her argument about "abandoning her femininity" (long story). You have to remember that the original _Fist of the North Star_ was made a fair bit before strong female leads were a thing in anime. Interestingly, Rei's Fatal KO has a THIRD animation used specifically against Juda that replicates how he defeated the creep in the original series as well. Everyone else gets the standard first animation.
Yeah, it's a reference to the manga/anime. You could chalk it up to old world sexism, but I think it's a bit more complex than that. Rei is a complicated character, who starts off as an anti-hero but develops over time. After his parents are killed and his sister is kidnapped, Rei kind of loses faith in humanity, and he slowly becomes more and more like the bandits he hunts. When he meets Mamiya for the first time, he takes her towel away and exposes her, and when bandits attack he tears her combat suit to shreds to keep her from going into battle, as he believes women shouldn't fight. Later on, his respect for her grows after she risks her life to buy time for him and Ken to come up with a plan to save Rei's sister Airi, and she ends up saving Airi from being cut to pieces by bandits not long after. Later, when the village is attacked by Ken-Oh's men, Airi decides to learn how to fight and stand up for herself, and Rei not only accepts her choice but encourages it, showing that Mamiya's actions had altered his point of view. Even though Rei regretted the way he treated Mamiya (since those scenes entered his mind when he was thinking about his past mistakes before Ken and Mamiya restored his sense of justice) and even though he accepted her as a warrior, he still insisted that she not forget her femininity. The brutal post-apocalyptic world had toughened her up, and she had to learn to fight and kill to protect her village, but he had seen that there was also a part of her that liked to put down her weapons every once in awhile and wear dresses and eat strawberries. He wanted her to know that that was okay, and she shouldn't be ashamed of it. Even though her village expected her to always be ready to defend them, it was still her life to live.
David L This game was broken AF, but I really respected the detail they put into making everything accurate. I just wish they used other characters, particularly Ryuuga & Jyuuza. also I wish I could see a fighter with HnK 2 characters.
If anyone's wondering what the Drum & Bass tune playing through the video is it's by Paul B ft. Tiesto Flight 643 & Subwave Remix if you copy and paste that on to the RUclips search bar you'll find the video. ^_^ I got this game and i got to say i love it to bits, just really wish i could of got a 1st print edition though but oh well as long as i'm playing i'm happy!!
I think "Fuck" sums up my emotions and general thought process at this moment. Thank you for clearing that up because I heard nothing of it and spent a bit actually trying to research anything of it and found nothing and assumed he was full of shit because I follow game information as well and would have heard of it the moment it was announced but am not entirely into the fighting game scene so now I can rest my mind. None of this is meant sarcastically, I'm just shit with words.
@dubdesignnet Actually it ended up being Raoh's technique that actually killed him. The pressure point Raoh hit (Shinketsushū) gave him 3 days to live. This is why right after the battle with Yuda the side of his head erupts in blood (and then his shoulder follows). Throughout the death scene parts of his body are slowly exploding. Nanto (ex: Yuda) are more slashing, whereas Hokuto (ex: Raoh) makes the body explode. If Yuda had killed him he wouldn't be erupting in blood, he'd be sliced apart.
Rei cuts her clothes in the manga to prove to her, that she is a woman, because Mamiya says, that she can fight, because she is "no woman, but a warrior". So Rei cut her clothes and she was embarassed. "If you are no woman, than why are you covering your breast?"
@Vladislak Add that to the fact that the Manga pretty much explicitly states that it was Raoh's technique that killed him (I'm pretty sure the anime did too but I'd have to check it to be sure). Also, it's probably important to note that Yuda was outmatched fighting Rei from the very beginning, which is why as soon as he started losing he resorted to dirty tricks (like flooding the battle arena).
The Pyramid comes from a moment in the series where Souther was ruling over the poor with an iron fist, forcing them (even women and children) to build a pyramid in honor of the man who taught him martial arts. When it was nearing completion, he forced a key character to place the final piece at the top. If he failed, Souther would kill all the children. When this character reached the top, he through a spear at him to guarantee he would fail. The top of the pyramid fell, crushing the man.

Also vega/balrog has the same japanese voice actor (not that there's different voice actors in SFII) as Rei from HnK which is fucking awesome.
Also the name of Kenshiro's teacher is Ryuken. Also the show had both Haggar and Rolento. Cappycom likes HnK. :P
*****
For sure, but I also think he's got a little bit of sonny chiba going on, like a mix of Bruce lee and Sonny Chiba.
+hyogaiceheart Don't forget he has Sylvester Stallone's hair and jaw line, and the resemblance is unmistakable with the sunglasses Kenshiro wears at times. All the while this character is dressed like Mad Max [Mel Gibson].
It also influence DBZ's high intensity fighting
Wow!! Epic stuff!!!
The closing Hokuto Hyakuretsuken is, IMO, the most exciting "hundred crack fist" sequence ever done.
'Oasis' goes so well with the intro. Good job! ;)
I always try to imagine how big Raoh's horse is.
I think in the anime they said it was slightly smaller than an elephant.
The manga also states it's about the size of an elephant.
Its said to be as big as an elephant
Raoh’s horse is awesome
XD LMAO The specials/Fatal moves are epic-priceless!!! I LOVE the authenticity!!!!
Like we really needed to see Yuda in nothing but a speedo again.
Yes
Kunihiro Kawamoto sounds just like Akira Kamiya. He should've become the voice of Kenshiro in the modern HNK anime.
Harry Drake Or the Hokuto Musou games for that matter.
Kens special move is sick
+Dion Stephens oah tatatatatatatatatatatatatatatatatata oa ta!!!!!!! XDD
+Rouenne I love how his Hokuto Hyakurestu Ken is litterally a 100 hit combo since the special move literally means "Hundred Crack Fist of The North Star"
Awesome how they kept the original music for the fatal ko's. That and Ken's ATATATATATATATATATATATATA!!!
forgot shin's suicide when he fights against ken. it's a secret fatal ko.
Beautiful way to finish the video. Nicely done !!!
For Rei, instead of perfect, it should have been pervert👽👍
Wow.. this game looks beautiful! Look at all the detail!! I wanna play ;_;

-Punches The Skies And 'Practically' Punches The Heavens-
That is burned into my memory forever, I have never seen such a brilliant death of a character ever.
Thanks for posting this. I have the game but haven't seen every single KO! :)
0/10 Raoh didn't shoot his soul into heaven when Kenshiro KO'd him.
I love how Heart's big badass finisher is just a bitch-slap to the face.
It's interesting how many of the moves are moments straight from the series (Raoh's antiair counter, Shin and Jagi's Fatal KOs, just about everything Jagi uses for that matter...).
LoL Rei vs Mamiya
Just putting these hos back in check.

emp100k Shuu would've been nice for sure.
emp100k yeah I'm surprised Heart is in this. he dies in like 2 episodes, he even dies in this game's intro. doesn't even live long enough to meet most of the characters in the game other than Shin and Ken.
KoruKinshi i think you mean for _shuure_
MaxPlayAll Ayyyyyyy
heart is not at all a minor character
BRILLIANT!!!! XD very well done! good quality too!
I was about to complain about the techno (I think) music and that I wouldn't get to hear the awesome "You Wa Shock" fatal KO music. Thankfully you did let it play so thanks for that ^_^
The Dungeonmaster's Guide - Flight 643 (Paul B & Subwave Remix) thank you!
I have discovered over many hours of gameplay in training that some of the fatal KO's can be juggled into
I say to my kids at night: "your already for bed" they still don't know what I'm on about....
I love how the game references every single moment
I forgot this was originally released on Atomiswave (Dreamcast hardware for arcade), it should have gotten a post-mortem DC port
7:22 Wait wait, does that skill make the enemy explode if the time passes? Like the manga? O_O
Yes, after twenty seconds. However, Souther is immune to it.
Especially when that music hits!!! It gets me all pumped up, it's like watching your favorite football team score a touchdown.
thx for the video that was nice ^^
Yuda's Walking Animation Is Hilarious.
The Song in the background is : Tiesto - Flight 643 (Paul B and Subwave Remix) Your all welcome
thanks yooouuuu soooo much tried to find this for years
Those Rei moves on mamiya. Gooold hahaha
Shin's Fatal KO . . . SICK!
Where the heck is Shu?
STORM LORD too soon bro..
It's not a lie; You don't see it in this collection because you don't see the stage, but Shu's in the background of Souther's stage, in front of the giant pyramid, carrying the capstone to the top.
+Bloodlyshiva

OH MAN!😲 After 3 YEARS still nobody knows!?😒
2:26 Jesus Christ now that is a bltch slap!
I'm digging that music.
I still remember this.
I like Rei attacks when he fights. specially the fatal K.O rocks man.
nice one rei
Thanks man.
that was so unexpected when that happened, caught me off guard at the fact that that got in and stayed in.
I don't think it was even shown in the Mangga even.
Wait, Heart's a playable character, but no Shu? There is no justice in this world.
Heart is always my hero.
These fatalities were great! ;)
Aww no exploding fatal KO's Ken? I am disappoint :D
i can't believe i never played this game. it looks like a classic!
Thanks man
I like mamiya's super with the motorcycle.
Geez, that horse is HUUUUGE!
Epicness overload @1:18

i really like the intro music!
why didn't sega bring this to the u.s?????this would bring sega up. why???
Published by Sega, and now the license belongs to Koei Tecmo I think
The "Fatal KO" song I usually hear playing after the end credits of any HNK episode, where they were talking about the next episode coming up. It may have been played during the show, IDK.
First Reaction: "Wow, Heart is in this?"
Thanks a lot :)
yes, it's here in arcade form. they have it in la habra heights, ca at arcade infinity.
@ 4:16, wTF is that fatal KO ! He just tore her clothing and made her naked

David L that was probably the most beautiful description of Rei's story I'd ever read.
You mean before SJW's ruined everything?
wow nice fatal ko, im a huge fan of anime and video game
It's "You A Shock", one of the opening themes. It's also the song used in the game's opening (Dubdesign swapped it out for this vid).
If anyone's wondering what the Drum & Bass tune playing through the video is it's by Paul B ft. Heart, Of course! Introduce a character by blowing him up in the intro! XD
ONE OF THE BEST FINISHING MOVES IN THE FIGHTING GAMES LIKE THE FATALITY
Love what Raoh and Kenshiro say at the end.
Kenshiro: Ni-San. (Brother)
I really wish that they make another one with some additional characters like Shu and Ryuuga and many others
jagi's fatal KO is awsome. he's just stood there laughing at the person as they burn XD
They really need to remake this. JoJo fans, DBZ fans, Guilty Gear fans...everyone would love it.
I think "Fuck" sums up my emotions and general thought process at this moment.

ohh, that makes more sense, i've never seen the movie, should probably see it
Kenshiro's final K.O, awesome lol...just awesome.
Really dig the fatality music.
4:10 hell yeah that's what I call a win!
Love the drum and bass tune in the background. For me it's perfect because the original 1984 FOTNS has drum and bass in it!! Perfect
The Pyramid comes from a moment in the series where Souther was ruling over the poor with an iron fist, forcing them (even women and children) to build a pyramid in honor of the man who taught him martial arts. Shu
This game looks so fun. It looks soooo 90s.
Thanks.
4:04 to 4:20... I wish I had a special power like that...lol...
The cool thing about Kenshiro is that he was the influence for Billy Lee in Double Dragon. Awesome!
I must play this game!!!
Heart, keepin that pimp hand strong since 85'

was kinda hoping the OP would be you wa shock
found it... I cant wait to play =)
I read a few of the Remastered(or whatever they called it) versions of manga that were released in colour around five years ago, and Raoh was blonde there.
Besides that, even in the black and white strips it's pretty obvious that his hair's quite light.
I think his final boss form in the game is referred to as Ken-Oh.
Beautiful
@carlosroberto366: He had a thing for her in the anime. The woman (Mamyia) and the girl (Lyn) were taking a bath and Rei just walks in on them. He proceeded to rip Mamyia's towel of her body, exposing her but thankfully he didn't do anything else after that.
@dubdesignnet Actually, the attac used by Raoh is one that kill the target in three days, so he can fall onto fear and despair. In the time that he has left, Rei goes on a hunt after Yuda, killing him for the sake of Mamiya. He then locks himself inside the house, so she doesn't see his painful last moments before the technique finally swaps his life away.
@Blueoutdoor84 Unfortunately no, it was only made for ps2 and for arcades before that. It only came out in Japan. You can import it but copies are kind of expensive on ebay. Sometimes you'll find it go up as an auction though and get a good deal for it!
@SilentStalkerX Indeed I used Rei with Raoh because of the death scene in the *Movie* (which I am most familiar with).
But the above explanation I gave is to why the burning house appears for Mamiya and that is because of how Rei dies in the FOTNS *Series* as specified in the above reply.
No it's not.
It's 3 seconds in the Manga which was increased to 7 for the Anime.
Also, this is only a game and if you look at the counter it takes way longer than 3 real seconds to run down. You know, so that it'd work gameplay wise.
It actually IS Raoh's attack that kills him. That's why he goes into the (hopefully abandoned) house before he dies because he doesn't want Mamiya to see him asplode.
3:55 Full Frontal? 😏
4:10 *Definitely* Full Frontal! 😏😏
I think the alternate colours for each character cover all their previous incarnations.
For what it's worth, Roah was blonde in the original manga.
