  • In this 1994 interview, Mick Jagger delves into his songwriting with and without Keith Richards, his approach to playing harmonica and guitar, and his lifelong love of the blues. He also discusses how he's been influenced by favorite country singers such as Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash, and recounts his meetings with Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, and Willie Dixon. We also talk about the Rolling Stones' recent recording sessions and other subjects.
This was taped during a two-day period when I also interviewed Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Ronnie Wood, Darryl Jones, and Chuck Leavell. Transcriptions of these originally appeared in "The Rolling Stones: Inside the Voodoo Lounge," a one-shot magazine sold at venues and newsstands during the Rolling Stones’ 1994-1995 World Tour. Audio of the Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, and Ronnie Wood interviews is already available on RUclips, and the others will soon be posted. I hope you enjoy these conversations!
Thanks to Max Crace for permission to use his 1994 color photos of Mick Jagger, and to engineer/producer Nik Hunt for filming the intro and enhancing the sound of the 30-year-old master tapes.

Your interviews are priceless. Being a guitar player yourself allows you to ask the right questions but also bonds you to the guitar players. Thank you for all the insight.
