Okay...If you have the car in gear or in the case of an automatic, in park, the wheels will spin in opposite directions no matter which diff you have. In neutral which allows the drive shaft to spin, the wheels should turn in the same direction if it's viscous. There is a certain amount of drag in the viscous coupling so if you only jack up one wheel you should feel a fair bit of drag when the drive shaft is allowed to turn(in neutral) Viscous refers to a very thick fluid which resists turning the two halves of the coupling at different speeds. The more the turning speed difference, the more resistance in the coupling.
Thank god for this video bro, I have a 03 with VSLD, both tires leave black Marks when I play in it "indicating VLSD" I'd much rather watch you're channel then motordynes, ain't gonna comment about his content cause I ain't like that but yours is much better.
Yes he’s wrong because I have a 2004 Infiniti G 35 coupe with an automatic and it has a VLSD found that out when we were going to put a Tomei differential limited slip, set up and we wanted to know if it was a two-way or you can put a two-way, so yeah, whoever said they don’t it’s really wrong go back to school
Hey bro is there a disadvantage from having an open differential versus the VLSD. If I do have an open differential what can I do to make it better or do I find a VLSD? Thank you for this video very informative.
Might be a stupid question but does your list apply for 350z roadsters? As long as it isn't base ? Cuz i read in a forum that roadsters don't come with vlsd. Thanks
I got the 04 g35 coupe with the 5 speed automatic that has Manuel mode what rear diff i have do ya know? I believe its the base model i call the dealership gave them my vin number and they told me my coupe was the track model.i don't know what fluid to put in it.any help would be appreciated.
Hey guys just had a question. I just bought a 08’ g37s 6 speed manual, what does that come with in terms of a lsd or a vlsd and any other specific features. Thanks
@@miguelpadilla5563 guess depends on what you're using the car for. If drifting id say weld it. Anything else the stock vlsd is fine. If you're serious into track/auto racing then would get a proper aftermarket LSD
@@OPDrags I do plan on tracking and drifting the car at an actual track eventually but for the other 90% of driving I’m going to be daily driving it for the most part. Just having a welded diff would let you slide around easier?
Just pulled a diff from an 04 manual coupe today at the junk yard, when spinning one wheel, the other spins the same direction. Tested with an automatic sedan and an auto convertible 350z in the same yard, opposite wheel spins the wrong direction. So they should spin the same direction. You should try changing the viscous diff fluid and trying the test again.
I'm sure you forgot about the third type which is some kind of "electro" lsd which uses brakes to slow down one wheel. Here in Europe only lift models of the 350z had this shit. 07-08 coupe and 09 cabrio.
Oh then this is just strictly usdm ones lol. My research didnt pull up any of that or the differences in the other parts of the world lol. That's pretty cool though! Ima look into that
@@OPDrags I'm not sure about usdm ones because even when we import them they mostly come with open diffs and NOT brembo brakes 😁 This "electro" lsd isn't something good. Rear brake pads dissapear in a moment

Do you have a vdc button ?

Not getting the power down to both wheels is the disadvantage. Less grip over surfaces ect. Find a low mileage vlsd or get an aftermarket lsd
@@OPDrags after market like the r200 from Z1?

Yeah I know the roadsters are kinda weird. I believe you're right tho about being an open diff
Okay so I got a dumb question..
So I did a burn out.. both tire marks were present..
When I did a drift only had 1 tire fire..
What does that mean?
With age and mileage the vlsd will open up and not stay locked. One of the bad things about them
Thanks your awesome 🙏 😎

Yours is a 3.3 and more than likely an open diff. You can use oem fluid from Nissan or i used redline in mine
@@OPDrags thanks
Mobile 1 synthetic 75w-90 would be a good choice?
You did not say if the 05 g35 coupe has open or lsd
It can have either. Depends on package/options

It should have a vlsd. As for other features not entirely sure. Just depends what package/options it has
@@OPDrags thanks man. I just went outside to do the wheel spin test. As far as differentials, what should I go with? The stock vlsd or a welded?
Stock 2008 Infiniti g37s 6MT by the way

Hello I have Nissan 350z Nismo 2007 #0562 do I have VLSD ? Just new to that!
And what Differential is best?
Yes it should have a VLSD. And an aftermarket LSD is ultimately the best but your OEM diff is plenty good
I have a 2006 Nissan 350 grand touring. do I have an vlsd or open diff?
vlsd
@@tim7656 thank you!

I'm actually not sure lol

I swapped my vlsd out for a 3.69 vlsd. Spun same direction
I have a 03 sedan Manual I'm pretty sure my shit is lsd
Can I put a VLSD from a G35 onto a 350z?
Yessir
@@OPDrags thank you bro
What about 04 -05 G35x 's?
I dont believe the X models came with them. However you can swap them in. The rear diffs are the same
Good shit

I have a 04 auto only my left spins 😂damn
If only one spins do I just get a new diff ? Or just replace the side is not spinning?
You would need to replace the whole thing
Thought so thanks
Imagine owning an automatic and telling other people they're wrong 🤣
I do and they are wrong 🤣 start learning boi
You big dumb
i just picked up a 2008 g37S 7AT do you know if it has a LSD/VLSD?
Should have a vlsd
