Cecile is the greatest singer of her generation. Aaron Diehl is the bomb as is Paul and Lawrence!! Doesn't get better than this.
Yes she is
Every time I think that i couldn't love her any more, I hear something else and think. "oooooooh." Just one of my favorite living jazz singers.
I don't like to use superlatives as a rule. But for this I feel compelled. This is the best version of this song that I have ever heard.
She's incredible and I'm obssessed!
Ella Fitzgerald's protege from another lifetime just climbed back through that jazz portal to show us just how it should really be done. Supreme musician in totality. Diction. Timing. Rhythm and effervescence all on point. Wow
Saw her last night in West Hartford for 3 hours a life altering experience... Aaron Diehl and band amazing too...
Victoria Jay wish I had been there I’m from .suffield now in .brookline
Nous sommes les plus chanceux !
Nous sommes de la génération de Cécile McLorin Salvant et de ses merveilleux musiciens!
Blown away by this woman
Love this version!
so grateful she chose jazz. i mainly buy old vocal albums - from the 60s and before. this is the first jazz vocal cd that put out in the last 20 years i've purchased.
Priceless
Beautiful and touching performance by a great artist. WOW!
I love how everyone has their eyes closed. They're feeling it!! As am I 😎
Still listening in 2023
Also Paul Sikivie (bass) and Lawrence Leathers (drums). Excellent trio.
Shawn Rosvold I knew Lawrence. I used to watch him play in East Lansing.
Saw her last night in Camp Hill, Pa, WOW - she is amazing. Love her style. Inspired my 12 year old to sing some old jazz tunes she had never heard off before. If you get the chance, go see her, you won't regret it!
Beautiful, clear and shinning voice. Ou Yeah, baby! Excelent musicians too. Congratulations.
Man that piano solo is beautiful. It's like if McCoy tyner moved to New Orleans.
Brings tears to my eyes
Holy _wow._

Cecile great and the other three
John Henry was a little baby sitting on his Papa's knee. Well he picked up a hammer and a little piece of Steel, and said this Hammer's going to be the death of me. (4xs )
John Henry said to his captain now a man ain't nothing but a man before I let you're steel drill bring me down I'll die with that hammer in my hand. (4xs )
John Henry said to his Shaker now Shaker why don't you sing. I'm shaking 12 pounds from my hip bones down, now don't you hear that cold steel ring. (4xs)
John Henry hammered in the mountain, and the mountain it was so high and the last words I heard that poor man cry was give me a cool drink of water before I die. (4xs )
John Henry went down that railroad track with a 12 pound Hammer by his side yes he went down that track but he never came back cuz he laid down his hammer and he died. ( 4xs)
John Henry had a little woman and the dress that she wore was red. And the last words I heard that poor girl say was I'm going where John Henry fell dead. (4xs )
Rest in Peace Mr. Leathers...
The piano solo is amazing. Is that a little bit of Guaraldi I'm hearing around 2:34?
Bill Fike - Sure sounds like it! You've got some good ears on ya!
...why did they stop?
Exqusite
Great music. I'm not sure that the piano was necessary IMO.
