I can fully understand you. I also only recently discovered Cecile Salvant - and I am 85 tears old and a jazz enthusiast all my life. I reply to your message because I am just listening to this particular RUclips recording today (Monday, 9/9/2024) preparing myself to attend a live concert she will give this Friday 13/9/2024 at the Blue Note jazz club in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
She has certainly become one of my favourite jazz singers of today. I cannot even list how many great talents she has, but some include pure beauty, clarity, originality, class, style, musicality...
I freaking love her, I remember I bumped on her by accident listening to NPR's Chris Boyd interviewing her in 2015 for her album, For one to love and I went and scoured online to find it and its been my staple ever since. She's a real talent and her vocal reach is just amazing. I really hope to see her live one day.
She's great - an extraordinary talent and her song writing ability is a very impressive string to her considerable bow. And her pianist - Sullivan Fortner - just does things that lift this to the sublime
She is an international treasure. Someone to follow.Someone to cherish. and the other musicians? unbelievable. Sullivan Porter--I just saw him in the winter in Umbria Jazz. Unbelievable. What divine music.
She's amazing. Such expression, beauty and freedom of voice and the way she uses it. I love the way she dresses and her glasses, also. She also seems kindly and unpretentious. I'm a huge fan. I missed seeing some of the greats in person, Ella Fitzgerald, Better Carter, Carmen McRae. So I'll make sure to get my fill of her concerts to make up for it.
Just amazing. I hear in her voice almost a summation of all the great American female jazz singers (Ella, Sarah, Carmen, so many more). I will be following her music!
I love this Queen’s complete presentation. Vocally there is such a wonderful summation of so many greats that came before her. But then there is a fresh thing, a Sunny brightness that she has in her tone and phrasing that is wholly her own. The arrangements are always, always top notch… always…
Saw her at the Catalina Club in Hollywood September 2018! Fabulous! Love her style ! Piano player remind me of Bobby Short! I feel so blessed to have seen all of the great female jazz artist now!
Simply great! Alfonsina y el mar's version is specially magnificent. I feel so happy to discover Cécile, just by chance. May her have a long singing career.
Bueno, casi perfecto español, pronuncia bien la ere pero no la erre. Por lo demás excelente cantante, excelente manejo de voz, aunque para ciertos temas yo prefiero una voz más dulce.

And hearing a little tribute to Mercedes Sosa brought a little tear to my eye.
Thank you for crediting everyone associated with the performance. I hate it when lyricists get ignored, Cecile did what has to be the best rendition of Carolyn Leigh's lyrics but she failed to credit her!
@@jfcSharp While money is still being created out of thin air, songs are *not.* At some (extended) moment in time, there were actual songwriters, often masters, wrecking their brain and fingers in search of a melody strain, fitting harmony and lyrics. People tend to forget that. I wonder how many even _know_ that there was a Harry Warren, let alone what he looked like, or Mack Gordon for that matter.
At 1:03:30 Oh surprise! Salvant sings Alfonsina y el Mar by Argentines Ariel Ramírez and Félix Luna. Song in tribute to the poet (also Argentine) Alfonsina Storni who left this world on a beach named after her in the city of Mar del Plata on October 25, 1938.
The hit, for me, was the duet with Mary Stallings. ...And to think that the only direction needed was, "Let's do... a blues". It shows that great things happen for everyone's benefit when people show deep mutual respect and a desire to look for what binds us. What about establishing a Musical Diplomacy Department?
I know Cecile is interested in being Cecile. Having just discovered her. I can't but hear a little Billie Holiday in some of her range. Wow. What a talent.

OH MY GOD, where have I been ? I had never heard of Cecile until TODAY - I'm 70! There are not enough superlatives to do her justice ❤

What's with the feedback in the first song? That's not really acceptable in 2018!
Is it me or has the pianist tried to get the crowd to clap a couple of times?
52:48 the dreaded audience clapping on the wrong accent
Ouch
