I own three of these units. There is an outfit where I live that breaks them often. The supply house after warranty lets me have them. So far I have been able to make two of them work from three dead units. I currently use mine for recovery as I don't fully trust them. I'm an old dog.

Yes I know the newer one is,not sure about the first gen version.
