Sarah, I'm really glad to hear that you got to experience Vegas before corporations really took over. My grandparents retired there in the early 1980s, and we used to visit up until the 1990s. Vegas was really special back then. It was clean and everyone was treated like they were special. Siegfried and Roy were the best. Circus Circus had the best breakfast in town and you could eat prime rib every night! Vegas was a special place back then.
Very very special.
The Elephant Shrine at Cesars Palace.
The Omnimax
The free acrobat show at Circus Circus
The Pirate Show at Treasure Island
The Volcano
The buffet at the Landmark was my all time favorite but the buffet at the Tropicana was my aunts favorite lol
The Fashion Show Mall was pure class & thier food court was fancy.
The Vintage Car Show at the Imperial Palace.
The Double Feature Theatre at the Gold Coast, best black cherry ice cream ever.
Practicing golf shots w/cheap bucket-of-balls at the range on Las Vegas Blvd.
The spectacular 50's Diner inside the Stardust w/singing staff.
I could go on & on 🤍
Blessed to have gotten to experience it
@@Elhastezy888 It makes me very sad to see what it's become.
Vegas is now about the second coming of Elvis.
Such a sad story 😢, thanks for bringing the video to us.
Poor Stoney and Gilda, Sarah! Reminds me of Vegas 1978 and Circus Circus would have overhead Circus acts. While playing blackjack- I was tickled by an elephant trunk as they would occasionally walk them through the Casino floor. I'll never forget that! When Vegas was FUN and exciting! A great story Wonderhussy! P.S. Yes, I was the guy that Security had to pry off the fence while trying to play with the minature elephants at the Shrine at Caesars. Security had a good laugh after I was replanted onto the sidewalk. Many Vegas stories! Oh those were the good old days!😙👍🐿
She was buried in the north east part of the property. In a shady grove of trees, with a park bench and a large granite marker stone. No one could miss it.
I hope they save it!!
I certainly hope they didn't just ignore it and pave over it!! Thanks for the intel :)
@@Wonderhussyyou getting any rain. There and tyour mom
What happened to the tigers?
Who organized the re-homing of all the animals?
That's our Hussy. Hoisting herself up a fence to stream. Can you imagine buying the townhouse over Gildah's grave with the ghost of Gildah stomping down you hall trumpeting on random nights?
Its sad that Siegfried and Roy are not remembered better.... They were as important to Vegas as were The Rat Pack, Liberace, David Cassidy, Wayne Newton and list goes on... The problem lies with the Las Vegas City Council, the Visitor Bureau, and the casino's of that city... It shows that fame is short lived (at least in that city)... Rest in Peace Siegfried, Roy and may Gildah also rest in peace undisturbed...
Talk about the elephant in the room! Gilda definitely should have an appropriate resting place. Truly a big Vegas showgirl. Thanks Sarah. ❤😄
I agree the elephant should have a special resting place
For being such a hard ass tough guy-WH is actually the sweetest softy who ever came out of Vegas. Brings a tear to my eye every time she opines on some poor lost soul!
Sarah, my UNCLE took care of Gilda! He was a BIG actor in the 70's and 80's (IMBD Steve Sandor) and took me to see Gilda a few times before he passed about 5 yrs ago. She was SPOILED. Had a waterfall in her enclosure, constant attention...and her own giant TV! There was a peacock that Gilda used to get annoyed by and she'd (with her trunk) pick up the bird and toss it over her fence! I have Gilda's photo with her blue ball she loved...in my house. Kept it after my uncle passed. She was very loved. (So you know!) ....a big fan of yours, Laura (In Vet Med out here in Henderson.)
I have a tear in my eye 😢you are so talented at story telling!
Thank you, WH💖! Our Beagle, Shiloh, is there💔since July of 2021. Her ashes are fertilizing the rose garden. Thanks for showing us that she is in good company. RIP Shiloh 🐶❤🐾🦴
Another amazing video. They should be kept in a Las Vegas public library for future generations
I met Siegfried at the Secret Garden about 8-9 years ago, and he was the sweetest, nicest man. He spent about 20 minutes talking with us and did a magic trick for my son. He was exactly as you'd expect Siegfried to be, he was wearing a blue velvet jacket and an ascot scarf. He was so lovely!
Interesting Siegfried and Roy facts! I remember them just like it was yesterday. That 20 years sure went fast! Thanks Huss for another enlightening episode ❤😊
I really wish I could have seen this 😢
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot ! 😎
brought a tear to my eye......RIP Gilda
That was so touching, dear sweet animals. Now they are in a better place, amen.
Yo, I literally started to tear up after 17:31. This is such a beautiful idea, and somebody needs to start a petition to make this happen. I will sign it immediately.
Thanx Sarah for another epic dive into little known history of Vegas performers. Sad what animals had to endure after their owners deaths...RIP to all those animals...
You were the sunshine, baby, whenever you smiled
But I call you Stoney today
All of a sudden, that ol' rain's fallin' down
And my world is cloudy and gray
You've gone away
Oh, Stoney, oh, Stoney
Bring back that sunny day
For you youngsters out there ,sing it to the song "Stormy" by the Classics IV
Thank YOU for your off center humor.
Thank you for loving the elephants ❤
RIP Gildah and Stoney
That was a really touching tribute, Sarah. Well done & thank you for sharing.
Great storytelling video!
Love for Gilda❤
Sarah, u should flip through the Siegfried & Roy program book slowly, and regal us with your experiences at their shows! Gorgeous and mysterious men!
Thanks for letting us know Sarah ~ Thank you and God Bless ! I never miss seeing your videos ❤
I saw their show 3 times. Also, I worked part time at the Disney Store at Caesars Palace Forum Shops and when I worked the closing shift on certain nights when we would throw the trash at the dumpsters which was by the wall that separated the Mirage and Ceasars, we would watch them giving Gilda her bath, hosing her down, at least I think that's what they were doing, maybe it was just fun for her or to keep her cool. Very fun memory tho. 🐘 💕
I remember Siegfried and Roy back in the day, as they seemed to be a common punchline on Letterman and Conan. Sad to hear about their tragic end, but thanks for bringing to light, Gildah, the elephant , a kind and patient soul she must have been, and Stoney, too!
You are truly a part of Las Vegas’s history!
You are the best story teller on RUclips Sarah 🎉💃💖🥂🍾💫
I vlogged this too and I cried the whole time. Watching your vlog did the same as I feel incredibly bad for animals who are so sweet and innocent and have been mistreated.😪😒
Great history lesson, Prof. Wonder. And you were part of it!
That's a good history story nicely told🐘🐘🐅
My Family moved to Vegas in 1978.... While I had moved to Colorado to 1975 ( they moved from N.Y. ... N.J. to be closer to me)Anyhoo.... I spent a lot of time going back and forth to Vegas ( even lived there for a year in 1989) .... My Mom was a poker dealer at The Mirage for many years... So needless to say I am very familiar with Sigfreed and Roy and the shows they put on was able to get tickets for on comp because my mom worked ... there and you know how goes in Vegas back then.... So your story really hit me in the heart... Really enjoy your experience and time... In this now forgotten era!!!! VEGAS WILL NEVER BE THE SAME💖💔💖
Very interesting video 👍..I really enjoyed it and learned a lot👍
Yes, another video from Vegas. These videos have always been my favorites.
nobody does a Vegas vlog like you do WH…. just ❤ what you share with us❣️
Ok I got the coco puffs the same time Wonderhussy did. I thought it was over and about a week ago I started to gurgle in my lungs. I couldn't get clear. So I got out the ol steam pot and turned on some fans and in three days the gurgling was gone. I still have that steam pot making my house nice and atmospheria. Feel Great!
As a big fan of yours it's ironic you put out a video like this the same day we lost Little Dee Dee our sweet 12 year old English Bulldog. You would have loved her like everyone else did, she was petted by so many strangers.
Wonderhussy...Another fascinating behind-the-scenes story of Vegas. I know you must have a million of them and I find them as interesting as anything else you do. Please keep them coming.
You are a beautiful young lady with a very kind heart. The memories you touch in your videos is amazing. God bless you for all the wonderful work you do. Big Hugs from Santa Barbara. 👏🌹🤗😘😎💕
I saw Zigfreid & Roy at the Frontier in 1980s. They had tigers. and other big cats roaming around us IN THE AUDIENCE !!! We saw the Elephant disappear in a second, before our eyes.
I love your idea of burying Gilda next to Stoney! Breaks my heart that the legacy of Seigfreid & Roy is fading so quickly. Like you, I was a huge fan. As a wardrobe dresser for the production shows, I worked their show at the Stardust a few times but was always too busy to actually see much of it...also, many rules about where you could be and what you could do backstage, so not too much peeking allowed. The people that weren't around during the S & R heyday really missed something truly spectacular. They really were a success story, coming from Europe with barely anything and building quite the life for themselves. They are very much missed
S&R had the most incredible life and life partner story! They loved each other so much till the end. Breaks my heart that Roy, at 59, still had the great fitness of a Cirque athlete when he was bitten by his tiger then.
Everyone who met S&R said they were nice, if a bit odd.
Poor Stoney :( This truly breaks my heart.
Thanks for the mention on Ross’s new outhouse.
What a very sad story you told us but a nice piece of history. It goes to show you how animals were mistreated in the early days.
i caught their show back in the 80's when i was a teenager..it was very 80's 😂
I was so lucky to take my kids to their show one time when my kids were little
Thanks for taking the time to do this 😢. Remember that they gave their best😢. RIP one and all
This is wonderhussy's Greatest Show on Earth with all the circus animals included.
Thats a really cool idea, to put Gilda beside Stony 💕
Next. Colma! 17 cemetaries. It's beautiful. Go go go. Go to Colma. It's mystic. Did you see Punxutawney Phil? The whole ceremony? They played a groovy ACOUSTIC Shakedown Street. The Grateful Dead is finally reaching the mainstream. How exciting.
Thank You for Another Informative Video 👍
I lived in Las Vegas as a girl when my father was stationed at the airbase in the 60s and then in the late 80s, early ninties as a theatre major at UNLV.. I worked as an on-call dresser for the S&R show the year they opened at the Mirage. Then I moved away. I really enjoyed that job and learned a lot about fantasy costuming.
So sad. I’m old enough to remember Sigfried and Roy although I never went to one of their shows. Very interesting Sarah, thank you.
Cheez-a-wiz, Wonderhussy, I thought that I was a SOFTIE.🥰🥰🥰
A reminder of the old over the top Vegas. Nothing stays the same for very long. Another great story, told by pixie Sara Jane! Keep wandering. And telling tales. PEACE
I always found Sigfried and Roy to be rather
Weird.........I'm trying to be nice about it...
So awesome to get this history of this town. R.I.P. S & R!!!
I moved here in 1988. I always wanted to see S&R but just never made it to the show. I did see the White Tigers a few times when they had their habitat in the Mirage. They were so beautiful! I truly miss old school Las Vegas. When I first moved here, buffets were affordable, midnight steak dinners for $5 were readily available, parking was free, comps were more frequent and you felt like the casinos cared about the clientele. That is no more. $50-100 buffets, $20-50 parking, no affordable steak dinners and casino that couldn’t care less unless you’re a high roller is the game now. I really do miss the “good old days.”
Serious, but humorous.
Icons come and go, thanks for the memories, great education of current events and the past, Huell is smiling. We love your spirit, makes us all smile.
All I can say is at least our dear Wonderhussy remembers poor Gildah.🐘 Hopefully she can rest in peace somewhere
permanently.🪦Great vlog episode Sarah!
Siegfried and Roy pretty much revived the Vegas Strip and started one of the most requested and sought-after shows in the history of the city. I agree wholeheartedly with you - bad enough that they are taking away the golden bust statues outside of The Mirage (or Hard Rock, whatever it is going to be). They set the performance bar for excellence, not only in the show but the magic that filled the air as they performed with their animals and cast. Las Vegas would not be the destination spot that it is without the people who contributed to its storied success without such history makers as S &R. They are an important part of Vegas history and should be treated as such. If there's anything that I can do from up here in NW Michigan, let us know, Sarah and we'll do what we can to see Gildah placed by Stony, so they can romp the gardens of the Rainbow Bridge for eternity together. 🐘🐘🤗💖💖💖
I used to live in Amargosa Valley and still have never been to Las Vegas.
I definitely remember Siegfried and Roy from being mentioned in other tv shows growing up in the 90s. Didn't start going to Vegas by myself until 2005, so of course I missed all the classics😢
Very well done, saw them first at the Lido, and all the other places then the Mirage. Best act ever.
Okay, I’ve seen enough. We need to start a campaign, WONDER HUSSY FOR PRESIDENT. No one out there now is in the same league, she may be our only hope.
Sarah, I worked at the mirage when it 1st opened and I got to see the show a couple of times!! It was awesome. We also entered work through the back of the building and sometimes they would have Gilda out there for a little walk. Great memories 😊
Your insight on Seigfried and Roy and your connection with them was very informative. Great the exotic animals were relocated to various sanctuarys. That pet cemetery was interesting, especially at one time owners and pets were buried together. Keep up the great work SarahJane 🎯👌👊✌👍🙂😎
Never saw the show but met Sigfried while visiting the sanctuary at the Mirage. The animals seemed to perk up when he arrived.
we saw Siegfried and Roy back in the day
I was just in vegas last week and saw the S&R statue!
RIP Gildah and Stoney!
I'd love to see a Poldergeist moment in one of the new houses like the movie, only with the elephant haunting the home...
Miss Wonderhussy, every time I hear your voice. You make me so happy! Thank you for research on your every video! I’ve learned so much. Keep it up, my heart!
I absolutely love the way you tell stories! ❤
Sarah this was a great video!
Hi Sarah, So sad.
nice video, wonderwoman,I remember going to vegas before all the new casinos,it was alot darker, very few streetlights and traffic lights, kind of like when elvis was still around, there was still alot of the things from then.
Las Vegas is a drag now! Honestly this era where in is a drag! Things were fun 20 years ago😢🎉 after 2014 things got bla💩😒
This was one of my fav videos you have made!
I hope they hear your dibs on the statue 👍 along with the song playing 😉
Loved this episode!❤
I was hoping that SJ would tell the story about the cassette tape. It's in her book and is one of my favorites. I didn’t know anything about the brothers other than the tabloid stuff. SJ left out the detail that she sent the cassette in a decorated animal cracker box. I learned to respect the brothers for making a little girl's dream come true. It's even better to hear the author tell it.
Local aerial photos from the Clark County Assessor show the south area of the property now has a CarMax lot and single-family homes. To the east and mid-section, new construction of more single-family homes. The west section, near Rainbow Blvd and where Wonderhussy filmed, will be apartments. Really sad that this beautiful property was not preserved for the city. Perhaps the estate needed the cash. Thanks for such an interesting video, Wonderhussy! We love you! ❤️
So sad, I never got to see there show. But I definitely knew about them and the show, I’m a huge big cat lover. I agree, poor Gildah deserves a great place for her forever rest. Hope someone knows or can do something about it 🙏. Thanks for the background story of 2 very famous men, my kids probably have no clue who they were. My mom loved them too, mainly because of the big cats.
Thanks for another intriguing video Wonderhussy! Love the passion that you have for your subjects! 💯❤
Thank you so much for your videos! I love them so much and all your stories.
Very fun. Thank you wonderhussy
That was a great video. The stuff most people never hear about. thanks for taking us along...
It was sold to three developers, Mirage Landing is by KB home, the Richmond American are building the houses and a third one bought the main compound and are supposed to be building apartments. Mirage Landing was named that in honor of Sigfried and Roy. I know as that is where my house is.
I live couple miles west of that pet cemetery.J saw siegred and Roy perform at their original show at the Frontier.Apparently u are missing Vegas!
Thank you for this information, another great video by the incomparable wonderful wonder girl!
I've seen Sigfreid and Roy's show twice. Well worth the money. We were also there to see the tigers in that zoo in the back of the hotel, too. I agree with the story that Roy had a stroke, and the tiger grabbed Roy by the back of his neck. That's what tigers do with their young. Anyway, great video!
Great blog.
Thanks for sharing the adventure and history of a piece of old vegas memories
very sad story
Yup, you could tell the history of doilies and make it interesting but more importantly, FUN. Love your posts.
That is so sad WH…. You really do excellent research, and tell a fabulous story
Thanks! Yes, S&R were huge in Vegas.
You put out such great content and have so many interesting stories to tell us. Here's some thanks for not peppering / interrupting the your videos with ads.
