- Welcome to Wonderhussy Adventure #774
Date of adventure: 2/8/24
I recently learned that all the Trader Joe's in California get their organic milk from a dairy in the desert outside Death Valley. Whose idea was it to raise milk cows in the middle of one of the hottest, driest deserts in the world? And who works at this dairy in the middle of nowhere? Join me as I investigate!

We need to send prayers to that farmer to save his business...too many are lost to encroaching development.
A guy named Flaco who is the welder at the dairy made that AWESOME sign at Ruby’s market He is a great welder and can design anything!
Cows are milked two or three times a day, depending on the farm. They are normally dried up about three months before they deliver a calf, then the process starts over again. Once a cow dries up, they can’t produce milk again until they have another calf. The gestation period is nine months.
or unless they given hormones by the Vet. to induce lactation.
A crazy spot for a cow to be in. But they're useless to humans otherwise, aside from meat. Children could ride them, I guess. If they weren't in a hurry
@@davidborgerding8429 cattle are good for leather, fertilizer, and used in the production of medicine just to name a few.
@@TangleF50 hormone shots? Cows naturally produce less milk over time, and they need the time off during their gestation period. Plus the calves are valuable assets for replacements as the cows age. If you have a good producing cow, you want the calves from that gene pool. Hormone shots won’t accomplish the goal of improving the herd.
All that extra milk.
Did our milk and cheese prices go down?
N-N-N- O-O-O !!!
Good episode. Ya, the Dairy Industry took a big hit during Covid. But regardless of their operation and EPA regulations, that's a pretty good location for a Dairy. I imagine in the summer months they have a sprinkler system to keep the cows cool.
You surely make the locale a living, breathing place. Turned on by the desolate and stark spots on a map with roads going off hundreds of miles before another name -place. You shine a bright light on a place with blinding sunlight. Well done.
That junction of H'way 95 & SR 373 used to be called "Lathrop Wells".
I thought you were going to say the 3 kinds of milk were white, chocolate, and strawberry. LOL. 👍👍5🏍🙋♂️
Smells like money!
Me too!
Me three 😂😂
FYI.. chocolate and strawberry milk is made from expired grocerystore milk, re - pasteurized and flavoured..... yummy!
When I was a kid growing up in Vegas in the 70’s we referred to the place you call Amargosa Valley as Lathrop Wells.😊
Don’t knock Farm life. My friend lived in raisin city. 300 bucks a month for a double wide and you could get a burrito as big as the Sunday paper for only 10 bucks. You won’t get rich, but you won’t starve to death.
My niece worked at a dairy farm while she was in college and fell in love with it. They bred the females and because to sometimes much larger males, the babies were taken caesarean. The mother would be standing up during the procedure, therefore the incision was on her side to prevent all her insides falling out. Thank you Wonderhoney for telling us about this dairy facility; I loved it! 🐄🐄🐄
Like inter-racial marriage these days.
Bless us every one.
Neat about the C-Section for cows . . never woulda known ! TNX
@@paullanyi516🥰 No, me neither.
Cows raised without protein is A2 milk. That is what we drink. Most people think they are lactose intolerant. But in reality, they are sensitive to the A1 protein. So the cows are raised without the A1 protein.
So basically genetically modified cows.
@@jss27560 Scientists believe the difference originated as a mutation that occurred between 5,000 and 10,000 years ago-as cattle were being taken north into Europe-when the proline at position 67 was replaced by histidine, with the mutation subsequently spreading widely throughout herds in the Western world through breeding
I only realized this after I had dairy in London and didn’t get sick. I had to do a lot of research to figure out why Lactaid never helped me in the US but I could have milk all day long in the UK. I bought some A2 milk a couple weeks ago and it’s been sitting in the fridge unopened because I’m still scared to try it. 😂 I always look forward to my yearly trip to England though. 🥛🧀
@@jss27560Yeeeeeeeeeeesh.
Nothing worse then a dry cow, right fellas ? LMAO....Love you Wonder Hussy.
Hello beautiful Cows! 😀@8:00 TY for your nutritious, delicious Milk ! ! ! 🙏
-> Yes, & TY to WH for covering on a Dairy!! Love to the Dairy Cows, that work hard for us people!! 💞🐮🐄🧀🍼 & Love my new calendar from WH, my 3rd calendar from her, so far!! 🎁🗓️🏜️ Divine Angelic Best to ALL!! 😻🙇🏻♀️🙏🏼🕊️👼🏻🌄🌞
If you’re ever in Merced, CA- you gotta stop by Guacamole Burrito! I work there basically everyday, and our asada fries are locally famous! 🥰
Surprising they couldn't have found anyone else to buy that milk.
Harder than you think to get rid of excess milk.
Yeah. You can't make ice cream or some more stable product. Or pet food. Or send it to the homeless via food banks.
A lot of dairy farmers use the unused milk for irrigating the fields where the feed or other crops are grown and usually makes veggies grow larger and healthier. For the cow far you are at it may cost to much to ship the milk to cities
Can't miss a new, fresh Wonderhussy video!
Spam Bots will kill this channel. They won't ever let this channel rise above 400 subs.

I like the Wednesday and Friday schedule
I have worked in the dairy industry in some way for 35 years and Dairy owners like to say dairies smell like money. Jersey cows are the cutest in my opinion.
What !!!! no Chocolate milk cows ? ;)
What a great surprise.... Another episode of "The Hussy".... On Friday no less... :)
Fri and Wed IS her schedule to post.
Many years ago I was married to a rural economic development specialist who had the job of recording the various farms and their crops or products for her job. She found out that the number of dairies in the country dropped from 50 dairies about 100 years ago to just 5 dairies when she wrote the report. The funny thing was that the number of cows stayed the same. Basically the dairies just got bigger but the land was only supporting the same number of animals.
We,old geezers, are not interested in your dairy...but your diary...
Wait,did i
Interesting this vid might cause you problems!
🦬💩🪰
Exactly what I thought about when you mentioned 'going dry"!!, Where do retired dairy cows go? (Asada fries)......
The lactose intolerant thing might be the A2 variation. NZ has bred herds of A2 cows to produce milk to supply the demand. The feed lot model looks odd, the local cows are just wandering around paddocks of grass, being herded into milking sheds twice a day. Good to see the cows have shade structures. ❤👍
Loved the “don’t believe me, just watch”
America is great! After playing pool all morning. Then I get to come home and watch the newest video from my favorite utube channel Wonder hussy! And chill! Thanks Wonderhussy!
Wonderhussy visits the Mooojave Dairy . Gotta love it. Interesting region of the Mojave. Apparently they use Hollywood movie sets and primped and pampered cows for the Happy Cows ads . Sarah ,if the dairy closes, there will be a sudden increase of places with carne asada on the menu . Stay well and good luck at the flea market. ❤❤😅
Hey lambchop, you udderly blow me away sometimes❤ keep it coming,
Thank you for Uploading during the President's Day Long Weekend/ Flea Market Volunteer Fire Dept. Fund Raising Event in your Area of Tecopa Springs Rd. CA near the Steaks and Beer Place.
I used to work at a place that was about 5 miles downwind from an egg ranch. (chicken farm)
It was pretty rank!!
That's why they put dairies and egg ranches out in the middle of nowhere.
I owned a chicken ranch.
The chickens produced 1100 lbs of splat daily.
😊
There's an old saying that Ranchers have:
You City Slickers say it stinks.
To us, it smells like money.
Very little money today...since government intervention.
Was it as stinky as the one north of Moorpark on hiway 23?
Been there, done that. The ranch I worked at in Amargosa Valley almost became a dealer for Lockwood - one of the few companies that make the irrigation pivots. You want to stay far from the big circles after the harvest - the wind will kick up the dust and make your outdoor life impossible!
Tecopa Bomber horse flies were out there long before the dairy moved to Amargosa in mid-1994. That cow operation used to be smack-dab in the middle of Pahrump, from Basin to Irene, on Blagg. It still had cows in Pahrump 1996-97. (currently leased by Harker Ranch (H&M Feed) Yep, P-U!! Also, Amargosa "town" is centered around the school/park/fire station/senior center. Lathrop Wells is where the gas stations are on US95, where you stopped for fuel.
Wonder and I haven’t commented in some time because I now watch you on the big old TV, you are my RUclips hero. Love your work. And based on this new video, let me share a mooooooooo love ya girl. Don’t ever stop your work pls. Perhaps here I should also say you are a gas. Frank
I was raised on a dairy, and I love the smell!
My wonderful favorite green eyed geek , love you Sara and you're silly efforts for the time you Share video's, much love and you make me happy watching you're u tube channel .
I love that barnyard smell.
I love it!!... free enterprise at its finest!!!
When it comes to fireworks and brothels in the same local.
☝️🤠 Another Spot on the Map... Cut another Spot Wonderhussy... You Go Girl! 👍🎉🥳🍾
Hey, I was just waiting for you to tells they have cows that would give us chocolate milk! Guess that's udderly ridiculous.
I seriously nominate WH for Secretary of the Interior.
I have not seen/heard one gov't official as learned. intelligent, forthright or honest!
All in favor say "Aye"
Adopted!
My Uncle was a huge cattle rancher for several decades. He was Native American. If you saw a western movie or TV shiw you were looking at my Uncle's cattle.
That ammo can is likely a geocache. Folks use GPS to locate caches hidden all over the world. The items inside are trade items, which keeps the kiddos interested.
I think Stacy asked Jim Marsh to bring the Wholly Cow out there. Now Stacy 😂😂😂😂
I just stayed in Amargosa valley for a week and loved it! Stayed off that road with the dairy
Thanks for mentioning my local North Hollywood Trader Joe's, lol... I was shopping there just a couple of days ago.
I assume you are talking about the one at Oxnard and Laurel Canyon the old Valley Plaza location.
@@Americathebeautiful49 Yeah, that's the one!
Cow behind you was begging for a wonder hug!
If you're into signposts, check out the 'Signpost Forest' in Watson Lake, Yukon, Canada. There are literally thousands of signs installed there on the old Alaskan Highway. Even found signs there from my small hometown! The things you find next to the most remote highways!
SUPER !!!! Always A Great Time .....Thank You For Bringing Us Along !!!!!! XXOO V
All good.
Gawd - the stuff! "dry cow, right fellas" I mean it -I Luv you, only more with each new episode/content. You're amazing!
I've been through there a few times. The brothel there always makes me smile but I've never been inside.
😂Oh cool! A drive up window brothel! I've never been to one of those.😂
You'd probably smile a lot more if you went inside!
Utterly Fabulous ❤
That is an amazing news publish about Amargosa valley. And I'm delighted to hear it from you from all peeps.
That smoldering pool of hot milk is where they make cottage cheese LOL
You are a wonder kid so full of good information 👌 just love you.
Being from the Southwest of the country. I'm glad pretty much everyone knows what "Carne Asada" means! I prefer asada burrito's myself!
Triticale : pronounced like Trit-ah-kale-ee. is mentioned in the famous Star Trek episode “ the trouble with Tribbles”. A hybrid. Quadrotriticale, was their favorite food!
Oh My God a bonus Wonderhussy!! And hello to WonderMom. I know shee lurking!
Love your hair and the channel rocks too..
You are just hilarious WH!!! And your research is fantastic!!!
in small Hispanic community's Mexicans only go to a Mexican restaurants on a special occasions, they have the cheapest and best food at home.
Ā classic Wonderhussy episode!!
Thank You Oh Wondroushussy!!
Remember the episode “the trouble with tribbles” on Star Trek? 🖖The Tribbles got into the
Quadra triticale, which was the wheat and that’s what made the tribbles multiply.
(Why do I remember that🤷♀️)
As a young child, I lived in a housing track across the street from two dairies and I remember the smells on a windy day and when it got really foggy at night ... ou-wee 🐄
Girl you are so much fun to watch, I like your since of humor
I was so hyped to visit the alien shop! It was so cool. I want to go back!
Quadrotriticale, a four lobed variant of triticale, figures prominently in the Star Trek episode The Trouble with Tribbles.
Probably worth noting that it wasn't something totally made up by the writers of the original Star Trek series
but a further advancement for planetary agriculture in the future.
The barracks were most likely a prison of some sort? Just look at the top of the chain link fence and note which direction the wire is facing. If facing inward to stop any from getting out!
Your videos have grown exponentially from the early days when I started watching you I've always loved you because let's face it Your gorgeous but I watch now for all the information you provide and I'm not going to lie you are easy on the eyes and very entertaining.. good for you I love ya keep it going
You always find a way to make dirt interesting !
The Moon is 250,000 miles from where you are standing ~ give or take !
Hay Tacoma, have a great fund raiser 4 the fire dept. Looks like a beautiful day in the Mojave Desert.
No dry cows! Love you're stuff 😆
i love wonder hussy been watching her adventures for years. just moved to fort mohave
Thanks for the Udderly fantastic video !
Love the Asada fries!
I could listen to you talk all day...❤
That's some quality fair and balanced reporting right there. That area reminds me of the stretch of I-10 between Tucson and Phoenix....lots of water intensive agriculture and dairy farms, although those central AZ farmers no longer have a secure supply of water since AZ lost a larger % of its CO river allotment. Personally I don't think its the best use of desert water to be raising cattle and growing alfalfa and cotton. Also the "organic" label is obviously just a marketing ploy to get people to spend more money - those poor cows living in their own piss and feces is a far cry from the "happy cows" ad on TV.
Another interesting video. I grew up around a bunch of critters, you get accustom to the smell. Rotting milk and flies are disgusting. Oh, if get ya ahold of a dry one there is lubricates that can be purchased and applied, works well if you don't work it to hard. You are funny.
This is beyond a doubt, the most interesting channel on RUclips. Thanks for all your hard work and research. And your interesting presentation of life in the West. I lived in NYC for a long time back in the 80s and 90s and at the time the Lower East Side was full of true weirdos and misfits. Like really, people who couldn't live anywhere else. Not trust fund kids or anything. But now it seems like maybe that's shifted out West. Truly fascinating. Thanks for your work!
You have a way of making everything interesting,
Lots of Guacamole 🥑❤ Surf and Turf ❤
When a fence has the three strands of barbed wire at the top, you can tell if the fence is to keep people in or out by the side the barbed wire leans. That abandoned barracks has the barbed wire leaning inwards so it was meant to keep people in...
Grass looks alien in the desert. Amazing what a little water can do.
I love this alien gas station!!!!😂❤ As I love all your adventures Wonderhussy!!!!❤ Thank you!!🏜😎Udderly???? Lol. We get a lot of flies from Saltdale too.
Just love your Adventures and how you guide your watchers tru the video.Robert from New Jersey!
So sad to see cows locked up in a mud farm I'm from northern Ireland and the cows r treasured here
I loved how those cows were watching u!! You should have talked to them Wonder Hussy!!
Holy Cow! I really miss that place. Looks like all that is left of the Holy Cow! chain is the Draft House on Rancho.
Another great video from a beautiful lady! Thanks Wonderhussy! Keep on Truckin........................................
Back in 1978, I lived next to a dairy in Fallon, Nevada, and the only time we noticed the smell was only for a short time after I arrived there. After that I never really noticed the smell.
Excellent, send me some fries😂❤
Well that was fun.
I suspect that the dairy farm would be horrified that you did a video. In Florida they are protected by laws to keep people from showing their sins and harm to animals and land.
Happy Cows, indeed!
Great video! Thanks.
Dear scammers don’t tell me I can telegram for a reward!
A lot of other red states as well, Indiana being one.
Thank you for saying
Humane treatment of animals is very important.
And LEGAL!!
She didn't film the calf-stalls. That'd make you cry.
Cool video thanks.
I think she pretty much commented on all the negatives of such an operation in the desert without offending anyone. She is showing us places and things that we may be unaware of and it is up to us to decide how we feel about what is being shown. I am with you as far as the industrialization of agricultural and the negative impact it has on the quality of our food and the overall environment. Don’t shoot the piano player.
My hometown. Still here.
Amazing that there is a mini market and restaurant in the middle of nowhere. Regards from Chester U.K
You always brighten up my day.❤
Love to watch your channel, keep on keeping on
Well, two bangs out of three ain't bad, fireworks and brothel, cue the WH 'clown honk' sound effect !! Actually, I've once spent the night at that rest area across the street while traveling from north to south. I went over to the Alien convenience store for a snack and was surprised to see a brothel out back, but I guess not really being in Nevada and all. And will I have to test my Organic milk with a Geiger counter the next time I have some ? Yeah, you're right, I don't like dry cows either....yikes !!....take care WH.
Cool place to visit! It's interesting what you find in the desert lol. 😊
