- Welcome to Wonderhussy Adventure #795
Date of adventure: 4/13/24
I didn't know Oklahoma had a desert -- but it's beautiful, and full of dinosaur relics! And from the top of gorgeous Black Mesa, which is the state's high point, you can see at least four states -- maybe 5, depending on your eyesight.

wonder hussy, wonderhussie, wonder hussie, wonder hussey, wonderhussey
I grew up not far from Black Mesa, spent many weekends camping at Clayton Lake. We used to hike up to the top of the mesa in the early morning, then stretch out and wait for the daily flight of a pair of F-111s that would practice their close-terrain techniques by flying only a hundred feet or so above our heads. They would be traveling so fast that you wouldn't hear them until they were right on top of you ;-).
The trail you walked up is an old Jeep trail. I used to drive my ‘47 Willys Jeep up that road…very narrow 😜.
I also spent a lot of time getting to know the residents there, who would show me where to find dinosaur bones/tracks, cycad fossils and petrified wood. The general store in Kenton was a cool place to visit, too :-).
That would have been incredible to see those big Aardvark fighter bombers doing low level runs from the Mesa top! I wish I could have visited the Mesa when it was wide open like you! Go Pokes!
I'm from Oklahoma near the Arbuckle Mountains and watched the F-111's practice, late 60.s. The prairie grass would flatten to the ground on their approach before their almost straight up climb...then starting in 1968 I worked at Texas Instruments where we supplied components to General Dynamics for the radar...later on several mid-life upgrades for that awesome craft.
Wow, the F-111 was called “Silent Death by the Viet Cong during the Viet Nam conflict, I was in the USAF and saw this magnificent aircraft in person, I was an Asst Crew Chief on F-4 aircraft, but the F-111 Aardvark is by far my favorite aircraft, wow, flew above your heads, that must’ve been something to witness! Good stuff Man!
@@billwhitenack1662I concur, an Ugly yet beautiful aircraft, they bombed Libya, couldn’t see them coming, so awesome, the Aardvark! Silent Death!
@@apocyldoomer For a couple of kids living in SW Kansas it was quite a sight. I wonder if they ever saw us or my 'yellow '47 Willys Jeep and wondered just what the heck we were doing up there ;-).
Oklahoma will always be special to me. When I married, our first home was in Lawton. My first son was born at Ft. SILL. It really is a beautiful state. Gas was cheap, so we would pack snacks and take road trips.
I just moved to Duncan from San Diego 6 months ago. East of town it is all rolling pastures and hills and hollars, lakes and woods. Gas is cheap,..under $3/g and I bought a nice lil' 3 BR house for $40K. Yeah, you read that right.
At 3:45 . . . "Well boys there is a Hussy in town",
L and O and L, I have not gotten to laugh like that
in a long time! 😆😅🤣😂
Hey there are very cool Wonderhuss, ya gotta remember and be prepared and carry your cool stickers to leave your mark each and every place you visit and explore! Because everybody loves the "HUSS". ❤
Yup. You wouldn't think it, but WH is not very diligent in the marketing area. That's part of what makes her so endearing, but the fact is more people should know her work.
I laughed my ass off when you said "well boys, there's a hussy in town"! ....I love your sense of humor!!
Sarah, I know you don't read these, but in the off chance you see this one, here it is! I swear, being 100 percent truthful here, you should be at millions of subs, and I don't get why you're not! On your own you have managed to operate what appears to me a professionally produced, and acted travel show. You should be on the Travel Channel for everyone to see. There are other media outlets people watch other than RUclips. Have you thought of contacting the Travel channel, or some other network to see if they'd be interested in buying your past episodes, for a fee of course? I just feel you deserve more success for what you've accomplished, and what you do. You could also make a concerted effort to gain more subs, advertising, meeting up more often with other channels, I'm just shocked you aren't at a minimum of a million subs for the quality work you put out, it stuns me every time I see your stats. Maybe you're satisfied with the status queue, and that's fine too, but I think you deserve more! 👍😎✌🗽
Why do you think the “Travel Channel” is a step up?? Nobody watches regular TV anymore. She has ultimate control of her channel on RUclips.
@@SinMore I didn't say it was a step up now did I? I hate when people twist things to meet their own narrative! I simply want more success for her, and selling past seasons of her work is another avenue to greater riches. She could also sell them current episodes, or do a separate channel for them, many opportunities where she doesn't have to sell her soul to rock & roll! Don't make this about you, and your defensive mechanisms, it's simply a suggestion for her to make more of what she has already accomplished!✌😎
' we're on a road to nowhere.' Who remembers this song...wonderhussy? 😲
Talking Heads
@@deborahanderson5508 went down an 80s rabbit hole today. Good tunes.
I remember a song by Chris Fra, an English buy . Great song.
What a wonderful monument! I had no idea that there was granite in Oklahoma, and such beautiful red granite it is. It should last awhile. Ammo can registers are more durable than the coffee can ones.
1st time seeing one of your Highpoint videos. Love it! On September 27, 1994 I became the 1st person to climb the Lower 48 State Highpoints SOLO ❤.
Oklahoma is home of fort Sill where Geronimo is buried.
That is so awesome!!
That's so cool Climber! 💪🤩
Hello Ms. Hussy, from (mostly) flat-as-a-pancake Florida! And as you mentioned, FL’s highest point is just a shade over 300 feet (Sugarloaf “Mountain” near Clermont, FL in the middle of the state just NW of Orlando), it’s a favorite amongst cyclists - every November there is an organized bike-ride called the Horrible Hundred (100 miles max which includes this hill). Enjoy your travels! Sincerely, Florida Man 😂
Thanks again you really knock it out of the park, love your videos and especially the narration. I'm too old to travel anymore so glad to be able to travel with you. Keep up the good work
I'm in SE Oklahoma, the lush green mountain area of the state. On your next trip through this area I recommend you do a video on the Heavener Ruin Stones. Fascinating history of the Vikings whom is thought to have left some ancient writings on boulders and rocks throughout this small region. Thank you for bringing attention to this little known state!
Eastern Oklahoma is beautiful, it's the rise into the Ozarks. I was there once, and very surprised because all we're ever shown or hear about is the high plains.
When I was a kid (long ago) we would go to Beavers Bend. It's a cool place for swimming, hiking, animals, etc.
@@LarryG-jo6bfwent there last year, what a great place to visit.
Oklahoma is a freaking beautiful state with lots of sun.
Wow I live in Oklahoma(the green part LOL ) and run back and fourth to Amarillo all the time but never ventured up there to the highest point. Thanks for sharing this, I'm definitely going to have to go check it out!
😂😂 I love your videos! Especially your commentary!
Memories of squatting in the desert when a ground hog ran accross my feet. I spent days picking cactus needles out my butt.
👍🌹👨🏻🦳🌹👍
Youch!
Interesting all that is in Oklahoma. I've only driven through it, only stopping for gas. My loss! Now, I'm going to have to go back and look around some more. Thank you for showing us the hidden Oklahoma! The dinosaurs went extinct some 65 million years ago.
Oklahoma is beautiful and very underrated
Strange, the Ark museum says they walked with man...
When my Dad, my Brother and I hiked to the top of Mount Whitney (14,505 feet) long ago, a lady at the top said, "Boy it sure is foggy up here." To which I replied, "Lady, we're standing in the clouds!"
You did a great job! We love you, Wonderhussy!
Yes, we have to note Sarah's RCH reference being the smallest unit of measurement for curious viewers. Red C Hair is your starting point in solving this mystery. C U soon!
The travel channel needs you
You can make the most boring subject interesting
I was hoping you couldn't resist Black Mesa. Thanks for the view.
What a surprise to see a video on a Friday! Many Mahalos for taking the time to stop at various places on the way back from the Awesome Arkansas Eclipse video! Some of your viewers live in places where they just can't get in the car and drive to such amazing places. It is very loved and appreciated that you can do such things.
So someone from Woodward, OK has done good work constructing benches and shade protection on the Black Mesa trail.😊❤
Howdie from Amarillo, Texas, little lady! We dig your chillie out here in Texas.
Hey WH! Its me! What a great video, again, you have presented a "world class" video, thank you. The dino tracks in the mud at Black Mesa are similar to tracks to the southwest, about 15 miles northwest of Clayton, NM. I guess it could be the same animal, tracks are close together due to "brake dancing". Thanks again, and come back and see us. I am so proud of you.
Hi SJ, well done!! As usual your presentation is excellent! Best wishes, gg
You absolutely krack me up.. I'm 44 got hurt in a motorcycle accident dealing with that I found this awesome channel. Vic, one legged Miner, now that I'm a peg leg also
Sweet! Thanks for showing parts of my state! So entertaining cutie. Please come back you hear!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😘
Sarah, dinosaurs were on earth for approximatly 165 million years.250 million ya. to 65 million years ago.Triassic, Jurassic, to the end of the Cretaceous period. Those tracks appeared to include both therapods, and sauropods. Two legged upright and large four legged.
I’m enjoying these videos from your Eclipse trip!
Greetings from Oklahoma ❤❤.
Nice video. You make history fun!
Need to hear you thus morning.
Been through Oklahoma, but didn't get to look around much. Your video's given me the idea that it's about like anyplace else. If you look around a bit, you will find some interesting stuff. Thanks for the tour, Love and much love from northeast Missouri.
Wow. Such a remote place. I bet the views were super.
Thanks for sharing another fun adventure stay safe 🎉
A relatively new subscriber here. Thank you for a fun and informative hike to a place i will probably never get to see. Love your work!
As someone from this area I’m so glad to come across this video! Maybe I’ll finally hike up Black Masa this year!
Great vlog!
Glad to see you made it to my home state. I hope you had a great time. I haven't been to Black Mesa so you're one up on me. Have a great day.
Always Glad To Get A New Post !!!! Thank You Dear For Doing What You Do !!!!! XXOO V
My home state. Little know fact is that Oklahoma is the most diverse state when it comes to landscapes. It has the most varied terrain of any state per square mile
A very cool fact indeed.
Well I sure hope you made it to Santa Fe and didn’t miss out on that salmon dinner and jalapeño margarita! Awesome video
If you ever come to New York, our tallest point is Mount Marcy, known by us Mohawk as Tahawus (the name of the ghost town where my grandparents lived is at the base nearby) and it's 5,300 feet high. There's two trails, one is something like 20 miles and the other is 7 or so.
RCH LOL haven't heard that in a long time : - ) -- .97 of a foot is apprx 11 5/8ths inches...
Miss Hussy, you are definitely my rodeo queen!
And so Wonderhussy hustles herself down from Black Mesa. She's on that long trail ride home.
Nice high point monument. You should keep a handful of your stickers in your go-bag. Never know when you might want to mark your trail and scat can be so messy. 😮 Hope you made it to Santa Fe in time for supper. ❤Stay safe Sarah. ❤❤
Amazing video Sarah! Beautiful country. Thank you for making videos for armchair travellers ❤
Welcome to Oklahoma even though you didn't stay long and we didn't know you were here and we enjoyed having you anyway hurry back every chance you get
Continuing my love/hate relationship with the Wonderhussy. Love the videos, hate the fact you are living the life of travel that I wish I could. It's amazing how you continue to go places that I say that I want to visit.
These are the BEST videos!
Yep, those in Southern California will drain the water table dry just to keep their front yards green
Zion's Angels Landing, UT (1,488ft)
Black Mesa OK 4980ft
Mt. Whitney Summit, CA (14505ft)
Mount Elbert, CO (14439ft)
Wheeler Peak, NM (13167ft)
Mount Charleston, NV (11916ft)
Mount Charleston, including Charleston Peak at 11,916 feet, is the highest mountain in both the Spring Mountains and Clark County, in Nevada, United States.
I'm glad to see you expanding your territory. You can find the middle of nowhere in a lot of other states.😊❤❤
Thanks for the peak
I use to live close to there and went there often. Nice video. They have dinosaur tracks also in the creek beds.
WH Queen of the peaks ! Good job Sarah.
Hope you made it to Santa-Fe in time. If you go to St Michaels drive there is a clock tower there that was built by Gene Chiply . If you go look in the big picture window you should see the carved dragons and moon dial . I helped Gene build the clock tower and the clock a number of years ago. It is one of the most interesting clocks. Foot prints in the sand Girl!
Fun times, Hussy! Thanks! 😊
Shout out right back at you Wonderhussy from Albuquerque, NM thanks for another fun adventure; looks like you may have just missed some of the air forces finest on your hike. I can’t be 100% sure but Crow is an acronym and nickname for the combat rescue officers who work with air forces elite pj’s training out if lackland AFB, Texas .
In any case, always good times with u:-)
We live in Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas. Now we're gonna have to go there... Thanks Sarah!!
Loved your video
GREAT VIDEO,,SAFE TRAVELS..
Enjoyed watching, as always. I has to see how far Black Mesa was from Fort Worth. It's definitely a long days ride!
RCH. let me put on my thinkin' cap on...GOLLY wonderhottie, you got my mind drifting off into all kinds of interesting places..
Thanks Wonderhussy that was cool. Interesting!
Looks like you had a fun time.
Black Mesa is very close to camp Billy Jole were I go to the okie tex star party. To be held September 27 till October 5 2024.
Fun fact, the Adk 46R sticker at 18:37 stands for the Adirondack 46ers, that's the number of high peaks there are in the Adirondack Mountains of New York where I am and the ultimate goal is to climb all 46 of the High Peaks which is not as easy as you think, some of them aren't necessarily the highest when it comes to elevation, but our mountains tend to be fairly steep with a lot of rock face and brush, and not all of them can be accessed during the winter safely between the snow and the cold.
I really like this kind of video. I used to love hiking.
We hiked that mesa in 2010. Great view up there.
Keep a sticker inside your cap , that way you’ll always have one with you 👍😃
Enjoyed your Oklahoma adventure today. And as a side note Louis L’Amour would hike and camp at many areas he wrote about in the day. Be Safe! Cheers!
Love the Huss, Always.
Enjoy this part of Oklahoma. Lots of interesting things to see out here. I did get to see Dinosaur tracks on private property out in this area.
Rockin' it in Oklahoma ascending to high peaks ~ ! As a transplant to Santa Fe, I agree the terrain is very much native to typical high desert. Hope you enjoyed your visit to Santa Fe, it's a quirky and quaint historic city with wonderful restaurants and tourist traps such as Meow Wolf, Zoozobra, World Class Art Exhibits & Enchanting National Parks like Bandelier !
You missed the best stop on westward, Folsom NM, sight of the discovery and identification of "Folsom" prehistoric man, dating back 10K years ago.
Human remains were not found there, but projectile points in assoc. With extinct biso.
Don’t forget Folsom Falls!
Love that recent picture of you posing in the rock💓
12:47 as a Oklahoman who lives 2 hours south of Amarillo, in Texas, I am waving back atcha.
Many people not from that region have no idea there's a skinny oklahoma pan-handle running along the top of Texas. I think it's only about forty miles wide? Something like that - others may know. It's fascinating and thank you for visiting those hills. Never knew folks made climbing the high point in each state a thing. Gosh. Some folks are sure competitive. I'm gonna have to pass on it,... but I'd gladly have done this one, lol. For the record,...I personally thought they were very beautiful hills. Another good one here. Cheers. 👍
Welcome to Oklahoma! :)
You made the hike fun - I hiked it in 2022 - AND you missed the best view of New Mexico from that 1290 ft west - it was fantastic
Boy howdy I love your videos Wonderhussy!
I live 60 north of there in Colorado. I have never taken time to climb Black Masa. I put it on my bucket list for this year.
Here in New Jersey the highest point in our state is literally called High Point. High Point State Park to be specific. 1,803 ft asl. Wonderhussy can probably hike it without breaking a sweat. lol
Good morning nice to see all places you too
Really good video, well done. Thanks for sharing…!
Great video you had a pretty day for a hike you don't see blue sky like that much anymore.
Love how you laughed at the elevation level. So Virgo. ❤
We do love you here in Oklahoma 🌹🌹🌹
You have to do a photo shoot from Chena Hot Springs, Alaska.
Been there!
❤😂😊. You would have had to hike over 3/4 of a mile to get to NM... there are 5280 feet in a mile... yep, I have done some surviving.. Thank you for taking us along on your adventure.
Wow came to Oklahoma I missed seeing hussy wow
Hussy your a trip keep on hiking you go girl ❤😮❤.
I know you have been higher than that. About a 1/4 of a mile, "you are there". I would have loved an outburst of Oklahoma the song and a visit to the State Fair. Alway the best thank you stay safe ALL
Hi Ms. Hussey!!!!
I live in the eastern side of Oklahoma, I only have an acre but have planted over 30 trees. I dig about a 5 gallon hole to plant them, always get about 10 gallons of rock out.
If youd have kept going past the monument 100 or so feet south you'd have been at the edge of the mesa. Great view, especially in the morning and evening or even better with storm clouds. Ive hiked that area a few times. If you stay at a dark site overnight on a clear night, there are so many visible stars. I love that area, especially during storm season. Im only 42, but Ive heard some amazing things about that area from some people much older about being able to drive up that trail, or more fossils, tracks, etc.
I enjoy your treks through the wilds of outdoors. Keep them coming. Also have a question for you. How do like the BougeRV that you have as I'm looking at buying one?
