Omfg Raleigh, I started watching your vids because you clearly know your shit and I LOVE listening to people who know wtf they're talking about... But then when you mentioned the piano part I yelled because I also play piano (unlike riding horses, you got me beat on that) and I was thinking EXACTLY that but then you had to mention it and it was just so great. I'm just fangirling over how knowledgeable you are. Thank you for spreading the faxxxx!!! :D
I have 4 horses in which all are trained to be tacked and mounted from both sides. Fun Fact: Mounting from the left is just tradition. Soldiers would mount up on their horses left sides so that their swords, anchored over their left legs, wouldn't harm their horses' backs. But you're trail riding, not heading into battle. Love your videos!
Thank you as I thought the same thing. I actually taught my horse to mount from both sides after reading a story how a person had fallen and sprained their ankle on the trail. They had to mount from the opposite side and horse was spooky from the unfamiliarity of it.
@@toosmalltoignore Sounds like a practical approach to me! I'm not a rider, but I'm picturing someone trying to mount from the "wrong side," confusing the heck out of the horse, who would naturally try to wheel around to present the "right side." After only two or three rounds of this, both horse and human would be completely rattled. When two creatures are anxious about the same thing, their anxiety seems to snowball. Yeah, I can see how the animals my husband calls "great, big dogs with very hard feet" would be spooked as heck by the process, unless they had a wise human like you to teach them how both sides work.
I’m a professional jumper and I 100% agree with you. The horses well being MUST have priority over everything and we need to call out when this is not the case. Whether it is due to lack of knowledge or lack of care. Keep doing what you’re doing
Megan Albertini it’s not and shouldn’t be different 😂 you should ALWAYS do EVERYTHING from both sides of your horse. As a horse trainer I thought she would know that.
The left side is the most common side to tack up. Just like you get up on your horse on the left. But it’s also good to get up on your horse from the right side from time to time.
You can tack from any side of the horse with western tack also. She’s just being over dramatic. It’s an older ideology to only do things from the left side of a horse: tack them from the left side, get on them from the left side, lead them from the left side, etc. But it really doesn’t matter. A horse should be trained to react the same to either side.
Foxzhu ok, you guys helped me understand more. I’ve been riding for 17 years and have never heard/been taught that tacking up, leading a horse, getting on a horse has to be done from any particular side. My horse trainer always taught me to do everything from both sides
I'll tack up on whatever side I'm on. Not that I'm being lazy and don't want to go on the other side its just that you have to adjust everything one both sides anyways unless you want your saddle or saddle pad messed up most of the time. I normally do tack up on the left just because its easier for me I guess since I'm right handed and maybe its like that for other right handed people. I rarely get up on the right also but there really is not any certain side to do everything on. Whatever skins your squirrel😊 (idk why I said that either)
“Real Cowgirls” wear t-shirts and jeans (I personally wear yoga pants or whatever is comfortable) and a ball cap. The long sleeves and cowboy hats that people see in rodeos is just competition dress code. I know no one in the rodeo community that wears that on a daily basis except to protect from the sun, and that is not super common. I love my horses and working with them, but IT IS HAAARRRDDD WORK!!!!! It takes so much time and effort and education to properly care and ride a horse. And like Raleigh said, you are usually covered in a layer of dirt or mud and sweating like crazy with hay in your bra. It’s not glamorous work to clean up horse crap but we do it because we love it and we love our animals. I have ridden English also for many years but for the past few years have went back to western and it is extremely annoying to see these stereotypes, my friends who don’t even do rodeo get annoyed when they see them because they know what it’s actually like
Haley Johnson hold up I ride English, I’m a cowgirl not everyone in the English world are awful most of them are but I’m not I feed my horse I muck his stall I work my butt off, and I protect my head with helmet
Allee Mathis she never said she was a horrible person... in fact, the only person who suggested that, was you. People _can_ have opinions too, you realise that? Don’t go around calling people lazy and “messed up” like bruh, tf is wrong? Do you understand what you’re doing to this persons head? - your spreading negativity, and if you actually knew Jojo and liked her, you know she would spread “positivity” too. I’m not going to say anything hurtful, I guess I just have to be the mature person.
Gina Piccalo omg I hate when people think it’s all easy when apparently all we do is “ sit on a horse and jump and control them by left and right “ I mean it’s basically what we do but they think it’s sooo easy but it’s not
If you do not know how to ride horses then wear a helmet... oh wait! you cant because of your high pony tail and don't get me started on the bow! please no!
Oh! existence called!? well be sure to tell them that you need proper grammar help. Also while you are talking to them, tell them that you clearly do not have any idea how words work. Thanks sweetie!
ØVÊRLY ÆSTHETÎÇ it’s the same with English riding, byt I always mount, saddle and walk my horse on both sides. I see it as good training, plus saddling and mounting from both sides is bettet for the horse’s back, at least mounting.
We tack up on the left side because its the same side we mount on, back when riding was introduced soldiers mounted from the left side because their swords are set on their lefts, its just become a staple in the competive world, riding in Europe they take it much more seriously than here in america
Autumn Strid as an English and western rider I agree 😂 I just wear a tshirt and jeans for western and a longsleeve, breeches and a Gucci belt for English 😂

Even though she was kinda rude, u guys have to admit; all of that was true ... 😂😬

"we all belong in a trash can when we're leaving the barn" are the truest word's ever spoke 😂

Keep doing what you’re doing
animals do not have a voice most of the time, thats why people who care are so important
You should legit be a lawyer.. this was equal parts awesome and hilarious.

So true 🤣🤣😂
I don’t know if western tacks different, I ride dressage, but I can tack from either side of my horse.
I have ridden English also for many years but for the past few years have went back to western and it is extremely annoying to see these stereotypes, my friends who don’t even do rodeo get annoyed when they see them because they know what it’s actually like
Haley Johnson you got me when you said hay in your bra, meeeeeee
Haley Johnson hold up I ride English, I’m a cowgirl not everyone in the English world are awful most of them are but I’m not I feed my horse I muck his stall I work my butt off, and I protect my head with helmet
i wear yoga pants to :)
Omg same I’m western rider and I don’t wear any of that unless there is a competition. I wear leggings and a t-shirt
So accurate!?!

Poor little girl has been wearing that tight as hell side pony so long it’s LITERALLY given her tension alopecia.
It does look tight, but then again, I've seen many people in real life that wear their hair like that daily, and they're fine.

Honestly her hairline does look a little damaged, but that's not something you should tease someone you don't even know about.

If you do not know how to ride horses then wear a helmet... oh wait! you cant because of your high pony tail and don't get me started on the bow! please no!

i wear high pony tails with a helmet :D fits fine, obviously i bought the helmet with my hair down :P
I thought she was trying to commit suicide by not wearing one 😂😂😂😂. Tbh I was secretly hoping the horse would kill her and they got it on camera
i put a halt under my bridle because my horses bit on the bridle (its a rubber bit) cant clip a lead rope or lunge on it for lesson kids.
Yeah I have to because my horse spooks easily or takes off so that someone can grab her
I didn't know you, I watched this video and I subscribe. Finaly somewone thinking the same way than I.
Mai.V I KNOW RIGHT 😂😂😂😂
Ugh
It’s actually good for the horses to tack up from both sides
ØVÊRLY ÆSTHETÎÇ it’s the same with English riding, byt I always mount, saddle and walk my horse on both sides. I see it as good training, plus saddling and mounting from both sides is bettet for the horse’s back, at least mounting.
*THANK YOU*
I tack up from the right
Agree
We tack up on the left side because its the same side we mount on, back when riding was introduced soldiers mounted from the left side because their swords are set on their lefts, its just become a staple in the competive world, riding in Europe they take it much more seriously than here in america
Raleigh: western riders look like trash half the time

As a english rider i agree 100%
Well I ride western in the morning so I always look like trash
