The first time I played this game I had no idea the others were actual players. Me and one other player stuck together through the majority of the game then when the credits rolled and saw they were actual players I was overcome with this deep sense of connection to this person I will never meet in person. I was absolutely floored. Such a beautiful game.
If I remember correctly his Steam name isn't actually Jacksepticeye so most people probably wouldn't immediately recognise it. I think it's booperdooper or something like that.
My aunt gifted me this game, christmas 2019. I didn't get around to playing it until New Year's Eve. I didn't plan it, but I ended up completing it right at midnight when everyone was celebrating outside and setting off fireworks and shit. It was really an insane, ethereal moment for me.
That sounds like a really special and memorable moment! It's always exciting to start a new game, and even more so when you can complete it in one sitting. It's great that you were able to have this experience on such a special night, surrounded by the celebration of the new year. Playing video games can be a great way to relax and escape from the stresses of everyday life, and it sounds like you were able to have a really immersive and enjoyable experience. I hope you have many more memorable gaming moments in the future!
I can see so much of what TGC took forward to sky. The way you slowly gain he ability to fly for longer, the way you slide in the sand, the fact that the game is so peaceful and beautiful despite being the aftermath of destruction, the music, the way your character calls, how the little scarf pieces are like the butterflies, the mountain that looks like Eden, I see a lot of associations and it's all so lovely.
@@TurtleTime26 yeah, I think in a way Journey walked so that Sky could run. The reason Sky can be such a well made game is because they started with Journey, an already wonderful game, and then they found ways to improve it.
I know this isnt really related to comparisons, but I just thought it'd be fun to put here: I think one of my favourite bits of Sky's development which just went to show how TGC really did want to make it artistic is that each area is based after a time of day/weather condition. Obviously Isle of Dawn is Dawn, and Daylight Prairie is the morning, but actually Hidden Forest I believe is meant to be mid-day or rain, Valley of Triumph is Sunset, Golden Wasteland is evening, and Vault of Knowledge is Night or Mid-night. And then Eye of Eden is just simply "Storm"
@@YaBoiBoris that's true, the first two are obviously named as such but I've always loved the different weather and light levels in the areas, never really put together that being a progression of the day
I remember the first time I played this game. I had no clue the white robed little character I met during the cloth bridge part wasn't part of the game. I kept wondering off and they'd sing to me to get me back on track. At the end when I got the trophy and it showed the person in the credits I actually cried. I was having this experience with a stranger and didn't even know. It was a truly unique feeling
Same happened to me. I think you have to complete the game in its entirety to get the white robe (like achievements, getting all the scarf sparkly things, finding all the easter eggs etc)
Me too! My first time I traveled with the same person for the entire last part of the game, and didn't realize at first that they were actually another player. We stuck together, even when I died and was SO happy when I got back and found they'd waited for me. And there was something really powerful about that experience with a stranger that's hard to describe - I cried too :)
@@iqwikiman2618 really? I thought you only had to find all the sparkly scarf pieces but I could be mistaken. But I'm pretty sure you at least don't have to have all achievements because it took me some time to get the one where you have to sit still with another player and I think I had access to the white robe before completing it
I will never forget my first playthrough of this game. Meeting another person was the most magical thing ever. No nametag, no indication that it's another player. We just met each other and went through the journey together. Love this game.
It didn't happen to me often, and usually, I can take or leave the multiplayer experience, but it was truly magical to meet another player in-game. I remember getting to the end with one player, and we just stood there gazing at this beam if light in just awe and trepidation, sharing this moment together, unable to exchange a single word together. I'm not much of a gamer, but there are some moments that'll stay with one forever; for me, that was one.
One time I met another player near the end of the game and they kept trying to get my attention to follow them. I was just messing around at the time but decided to follow them and we finished the game together. The guy afterwards messaged me to say thanks as he'd been trying to get the achievement of finishing the game with another player for a while and finally I was the one who did. It was just such a wholesome experience to have together. We didn't speak again after that but that one interaction was more than enough to make me love what this game created.
when sean meets the other person its so cute! its like actual wild creatures meeting each other, first staying lil quiet then happily joining in on the singing!
Couple tips and tricks if you want them: *That beginning area is a hub. The platform Jack landed on with one glowing glyph and a bunch of unilluminated glyphs is to show how many scarf extending glyphs there are to find. The more you find, the more the platform is illuminated. *At the end of each level, when you sit down in front of the statue, look below the statue. Akin to the platform, there will be a few spots where glyphs can glow. This represents how many there are to find in the specific level you're in. If you've missed any, you can either go back and explore some more or use the hub to start a level over. (Most useful for the sand sliding parts.) *In the vast dune level, the scarf buddies you free will actually guide you. Pay close attention and they'll lead you to other scarf buddies, glyphs and secrets. *You can track where your companion is by paying attention to the edges of your screen. Depending on which direction your companion is, that direction's edge will subtlety glow. *Don't fly too far away from a companion, unless you want them to disappear from your game. *If your companion sits to meditate, sit with them for a while. They might be trying to tell you to wait while they do something IRL, or their remote might have died. They could also just want to sit with you. ;D *Calling in the vicinity of a companion will refill their scarf a little bit. And standing close to each other will refill both scarves. Work together to make flight time last longer. (Also, you definitely CAN climb the tower without activating any of the murals. It's best to try it with a white robe, but you can also do it if you have a companion that works well with you.)
It's funny, but for a game with no direct methods of communication between the randomly-matchmade players, there's almost a kind of sign language that _Journey_ players use to 'talk' to each other -- I've played the game on and off for years now, and I regularly see similar patterns of calls and movements to signal different requests or alerts.
Seeing this game and then the current game by the same company Sky: Children of the Light really shows the improvement of the devs and also how connected the two games are
I hate sky, I played back in the beta testing I was so angry that instead of creating something new they just copied Journey. Abzu did way better job capturing the feeling and experience of Journey but with its own story and creativity.
Even with the improvements, too, the heart of the game feels unchanged -- it's still the same serene, often meditative experience, just with the addition of more than a single stranger that you share the journey with. Anyone who's played _Journey_ will feel right at home in _Sky._
I was about to comment that I had never seen this game and then saw yours, I LOVE playing Sky!!! That's so crazy that I didn't notice sooner. Love it!!!
I know Seán finds his old videos embarrassing and cringe but I think they are actually quite wholesome. He has come such a long way and has grown a lot. It's really nice to see.
First time I ever played, I ran into this one person about mid game. They kept waiting for me even though I sucked at platforming. We did the rest of the game together. Then at the end I noticed I was going into the light a little faster than him so I went back to find them and the second I heard their little chime I started crying. No idea who they were but they made my first experience a magical one.
Imagine playing through Journey, getting that powerful, beautiful ending, and then seeing, 'companions met along the way: jacksepticeye'. What a treat! I'm glad we got to see this game again, might inspire people to play it again and share their journies for a while.
Looking at Journey and playing Sky: Children of the Light really gives it a side by side perspective and truly gave a path to how Sky looks nowadays of course with more players and you get to play with friends/ strangers but the mechanic on unlocking, flying, the honking is very similar. Both are UTTERLY STUNNING in their unique ways. I want to see Sean playing Sky just for fun as well❤️
i dont think he will because sky is more multiplayer and replay ability centred whereas journey is music and story focused which is why a lot of people like it.
My grandma passed away yesterday and I started watching this yesterday. Then I finished the video today- I have never heard/played journey before and let me tell you- it hit me right in the feels. It is such a comforting sad game. To me, it symbolizes the cycle of life.
@@youwantmyname9208 I'm kinda like those ppl because these games always end up hurting me, making me think about how greed ruins everything, how life goes on even without you, how the villains in your story are heroes in someone else's and all the other obvious and sad parallels to our lives...with sad but beautiful music :c But I just can't stay away, games like Journey and Abzu are Masterpieces!
@@bluerin567 if you like reading books I would highly recommend Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse. It goes into the things that you talked about and gives insight that could also help you understand the theme of the game better
I've never seen, or even heard of this game before this video, but it was pretty amazing. Gorgeous imagery, paired with deep story, all experienced without any explanation. I didn't really think about it until the end, but once Jack was nearing the peak, I thought "Those shooting stars were people finishing the game, aren't they?" I think being able to journey with people like that is amazing, and the thought of knowing someone has completed their experience while being able to see you making yours is incredible.
@@dmd681 i love seeing these comments here. I second this. Absolutely check out Sky: COTL. Even if you don't stick around for the various different seasons (I've been playing for three years!! Whew) the base game still gives so much content. It still tells such a fascinating story, one that you can play through with the device right in your pocket. And, who knows!! You might make a friend or two that keep you there for longer ;o
As an avid sky children of the light player this was my first time seeing this game. And let me tell you it is crazy seeing how many parts of journey are featured in that game and were they all came from
Flower was my first game I ever played and I even play Sky Children of Light so when I saw Journey was available on PS4 I immediately played it and it was just as pretty as I thought it would be 10/10 That Game Company really makes good games
Ironically, I replayed this game recently as well. I haven’t played it for over 11 years, and the game brought a tear to my eye. I’m glad you replayed this game, Jack!
As someone who aggressively plays this game and collects every single scarf with each playthrough I must say I'm so happy to see people still love it as much as I!
Jack: "Highly doubt anyone is playing this game in 2022" me: *looks at the thriving journey community and active discord* "so funny story-" Edit: fun fact the 'player' jack saw as he was leaving the first level area is a npc adoringly nicknamed Nick that you can find in that areas out-of-bounds section (objectively some of the best parts of the game are the areas you have to work to access and are outside the confines of the game)
Journey is an analogy for life's journey, it's very spiritual and Buddhist-themed. No matter who we are we live, experience emotions, hardships and death, rebith. The ending song "I Was Born For This" is the only thing with words, the lyrics are sourced from quotes and poetry throughout human history (The Aenid, The Iliad, Joan of Arc, Beowulf) and is sung in a total of 6 languages. This song describes the message of Journey entirely. The composer Austin Wintory has the song and translated lyrics on his channel.
@@astersabove Most people play video games as an escape from reality, or coming home from work or school just trying to relax or unwind, that's why games like call of duty and halo and doom are so popular because you can just turn your brain off and shoot stuff, most people prefer that. Okay, I saw this video, watched like 5 minutes of it and decided that I’ll play the game myself first. Apparently that wasn’t an npc I met, but an actual player! They guided me through almost the whole game. I’m new to video games, so thank you Sean for opening my eyes to such an amazing game.
Oh *Journey.* This game is such a good experience, so soothing and ethereal. And I'm sure this has been said in other comments, but the game Sky: Children of the Light is basically a spiritual successor to this game, and has a very similar vibe that I highly recommend. It's free, lotta in app purchases available but none are required for a great time, and it's just satisfying to fly around.
@@rudrambudholia499 yes!! :O Which makes Sky the perfect successor to Journey!! So much praise for that game. Been with me through a lot. Met so many great people on it. It's incredible.
@@chaostellerAnd I love how it's ever expanding. Season of AURORA was such an amazing experience and I love it so much. Definitely dropped a pretty penny for a bunch of the cosmetics in that season.
i remember this game described as "every frame a painting" when it came out, and that description stuck with me every single second in this game is breathtaking
This game ”made” Jack for me back in the day … I was feeling blue and down at that moment and just lied in my bed not having any intrest to do anything. Just desided to check if that ”Jack” had done previously anything since I’ve watched all recent of Jack’s videos at the time and picked Journey … I ended up to watch the entire serie at one go. Afterwards I felt good and happy. I got up from my bed to the sunny summer day and spend one of the best days of that summer outside 😀 Thanks for this Jack! You made my day… Again!!! 👍❤️
I love this game. Played it a few times and actually managed to get my white robe. I always saw it as a Journey of life and the exit of it. You've passed away. Making your journey to your version of heaven. The "lint" being memories of the life you had. The bad guys signifying the struggles. The glowing orbs, key memories. And at the end when you are this shooting star, you finally completed your journey through purgatory and get sent back to help others find their way. I always like helping people. So for me that was how I enterpreted this Art of a game. I highly doubt that this was it's meaning, but for me personally I really liked the idea 😁
@@stargirl7646 if you collect all the glowing symbols in the game! You will be able to switch on and off the white cape in the first area where the symbols are shown in the rocks. The white cape gives extra perks such as recharging while you are on the ground so its super nice that it can be switched on and off
Journey was one of my comfort games for the longest time. I know where all the scarf glyphs are found, and i've played in the game with multiple different people! i've probably played it over 20 times now, and every time i still get the same reactions. its nice to see my favorite youtuber playing one of my favorite games again. i watched the original play through, and this one brought back soooo many memories. i found myself actually trying to tell you where to go, and what the other person was trying to get you to do, but alas, you cannot hear me LMAO. i'm so glad to see someone finally appreciate the beauty that is this game. AND THE SOUNDTRACK? golden
This was such a unique game when it first came out and still holds a special spot in my heart. I've played several of the other games by the same company and others similar to what this company does.
I have not had the privilege to watch you play this until now. And I am absolutely thrilled that you decided to replay through this. This game is absolutely breathtaking, the audio, light work, and overall graphics are simply stunning.
"You built too high too hastily. You stood atop your towers and what did you get but wind?" Is way more profound than I can handle right now absolutely zonked watching a jacksepticeye video
Journey was how I found Seán's channel, interestingly enough. This entire video was the biggest nostalgia trip for me, and I loved every second. Journey, ABZU, Sky: Children of the Light, they all have such a calming and resonating feel to them. Even in the somewhat darker, scarier moments, there is this beautiful sense of struggle and hope. Journey is to me what Shadow of the Colossus is for Seán, so seeing this video pop up and curling up with a blanket, I knew I was going to cry, and cry I did. Thank you Seán, for giving us this gift and letting us join you on your journey.
I had known of Journey and always wanted to play it, but never got around to buying it or watching playthroughs. So I'm glad you're revisiting it and giving your thoughts on it!
@bbehn811 I can't recommend this game enough. For me, it wasn't so much a game as a spiritual experience. It was truly moving as I reached its end. I'm sure you can probably pick it up for a few meagre shekels now; a pittance to experience such beauty.
This is a game that means something different to everyone in a really intimate way and I have not been able to find a game that makes me feel the way Journey feels. It's truly a masterpiece.
@@CutiePastry118 I don't really know,we just called them guards due to them always guarding important sections in the game, like the dark cave/ruins and the mountain
they are genuinely terrifying even years later. but I remember meeting a stranger, who showed me a way to skip them all in the dark cave by hopping on some support beams. this was the first time I ever experienced multiplayer and since I was under ten years old, it absolutely blowed my mind since I did not expect to meet someone whatsoever
@@racoonsisters3471 I'm honestly thinking about hopping on, purely so I can guide people through as a white robe. I love showing new players where all the secrets are! 😉
Definitely do so. The game's a work of art in motion, and definitely worth playing through at least once -- it's an experience that isn't done justice just by watching someone else play it.
When I played Journey for the first time, I played it most of the way through with the same player who was also playing for the first time (judging by their cloak and behaviour) I actually cried when I saw them again after the snow area and we were just happily singing to each other that we weren't separated. It was such an amazing experience I shared with someone I know nothing about.
Definitely reminds me of playing Sky: Children of the light, which I believe is the other game made from him. Loved that game, it's so beautiful and the story, it's seemingly simple but it has so much to offer!! Just riding down the sand paths or dunes is so beautiful and fun to do! I just might pick it back up again.
Sky is a "spiritual successor" made also by Thatgamecompany. I've been playing Sky for two years now, so many meaningful experiences on that game over the years
I just remembered that Evelien just streamed Sky a few days ago. Looked pretty fun, but I was worried that she would get a copyright strike because it had licensed music (I heard Queendom by Aurora on the stream). I think it would be awesome if Sean would join her the next time she streams the game.
@@RAMChYLD Aurora did a collab with sky (that I believe in still in progress) so hopefully Evelin wouldn't :0 but the collab gave Aurora her own concert and character
In the beginnings of my relationship with my boyfriend he wanted to play this game together. We did meet someone else along the way. It really was one of those perspective changing games, had me sitting there staring at the screen and thinking. Then thinking hours before sleeping that night. At that point in my life it really felt like a warm shelter in the middle of a massive snowy mountain wasteland. One I think back to fondly every once in awhile.
If you restart the game again, you can embark on the journey again, but unlock the hidden story arcs.. once done, you will be gifted with the white robe, which gives you unlimited flight power.. this game does have alot of symbolism and the soundtrack is emotional and beautiful..
As someone who has only played the developer's other game, Sky: Children of the Light, I can tell how much it was inspired by this game. That's so cool! I've always wanted to play Journey but never had the chance yet.
Something I've noticed as someone who enjoys both, but sky takes it's level order and ending the exact same way. The enemy types are even the same, it really feels like an expanded Journey.
@@it_me_samuel you should play this regardless. Jack said that he'd be surprised if people still played it... but it's still pretty common to find someone.
I remember the first introduction I had to Journey was in an English class, and my teacher used it to explain the hero's journey (brought his PlayStation in and everything to show us a bit of the mountain level). I was so taken in its simplicity. I now have it and will often play through it (sometimes back-to-back) to unwind and experience it - the visuals, the music, the chance meetings (there's nothing more wholesome than seeing how excited people get when you cross paths with them sometimes, especially when you unlock the white robe). I always recommend it to people, especially since the controls are so minimalist so it's easy for people who may not have much gaming experience. Truly a beautiful game.
My best friend and I cosplay as travellers from this game at conventions sometimes, we love seeing people getting excited about it. It's great to see people still playing and enjoying this game, it's so beautiful! I still play this game whenever I want to play a chilled out game for a while. It will always hold a special place in our hearts.
AAAA!! JOURNEY! If you liked this game, then I'd recommend Sky: Children of the Light! It's made by the same company, looks just as amazing with more landscape varieties, and is multi-player. You go through different realms, meet random players, and is built to make random connections at anytime! The only warning I'd give about it is the last realm, which should be played with another, more experienced player if it's your first time
Yes! I've been playing Sky since March 2020 and it's story and connections have stuck with me through everything. Seriously considering getting a manta tattoo
this game completely changed my perception of video games too. the mechanic of cooperating with anonymous people along your journey and only communicating with the pressing of a single button truly made me realize the potential of video games in connecting people. it's like one of those little moments of connection with a stranger that you will never meet again but will remember always. journey is a beautiful game.
The game devs also has another game called "Children of the light" its pretty much a non ending journey of where you find glowing children so you can fly more, its also multiplayer
Journey was so amazing. The developers also made a game called Sky: Children of the Light, which is a cute little game that me and my husband play all the time together. The game is pretty similar but has more detail and instead of a "scarf" you have wings and little stars on it to show how much you have. If you liked journey I recommend playing it ♡
Sky also has the same environmentally positive messaging and honesty scary beautiful idea of "having to" get back up at the 'end' every time just to do it again for whats left of your world
i think ive played this game over 20 times, more than any other game ive played, and every time i finish it i cry. the music makes my heart swell and the story is so strong even without any dialogue. i love Journey.
I loved the game, i have gotten white robes and still had gone for many adventures, helping newer people as i was helped as i was new. It was a really amazing jurney.
I’ve played Sky for three years now, and although I’ve always known about Journey I’ve never seen it until now. It is incredible for it’s time. Seeing how Journey paved the way for Sky makes me filled with all sorts of happiness and wonder. Sky is far from a perfect game, but I don’t mind that. I’ve seen people theorize that Sky and Journey take place in the same world, and I can totally see that now! There’s a special kind of joy I feel seeing a game that is so similar to one I love so dearly.
If you want to try a new game, I’d 💯% recommend Sky: Children Of The Light. It’s been noted to be like the successor of Journey and I’d say it’s much more than that. Plus, till January 2nd, you can virtually attend a concert once every 4 hours. And it’s an amazing experience. But aside from that, just going through the game from start to the credits, is absolutely amazing and worth a play through in of itself. It’s all an incredible experience that would be amazing to watch you go through. (^ ^)
my first exposure to thatgamecompany was sky: children of the light, which i had heard about but only just started playing last year on my switch. it's a very neat game, and i hear about journey quite a lot as well so i can't wait to see how it is.
I play Sky (made by the same company, highly recommend), so I'm super excited to see what it's all about Edit: oh there's so many similarities. Journey came before Sky and I can see where Sky got a lot of its inspiration. Cudos to ThatGameCompany for making such beautiful games
samee. I actually had to pause the vid when I realized someone was playing guitar in grandma's igloo, so I switched my earphones to my phone to listen to them for a while lol
This game meant so much to me in middle school. Those were probably some of the hardest years of my life and Journey is just… comforting. It’s beautiful and simple yet endlessly complex. The art style and universe it built has always been something I’ve been fascinated by since experiencing it. It brings to mind monument valley (like Sean said) and some other puzzle game on mobile that I can’t remember the name of - but when there is this lost civilization with beautiful architecture and art and music… it makes something in my soul sing, something ancient and nostalgic that has seen the fall of humanity and watched it rise again. Oh, to be human. To be alive and part of something so miraculous.
You'll probably like Sky: Children of the Light, then. It has quite a few of the same themes, and is the spiritual successor to this game. If you buy the starter pack on Playstation, then you'll get some Journey cosmetics. Not a requirement in the slightest as the game itself is free, and the pack won't give you any special access. Just fun cosmetics.
I LOVED this game when I was young… I vividly remember I never got past the jellyfish until I was twelve, asking myself why and remembering all of the hauntingly delightful memories. Also consider Sky: Children of The Light, as it’s undeniably a wonderful successor that’s a passion project of TGC. I was so delighted to see this forgotten gem on my fyp.
This game really came into my life when I faced the most challenges and hardships. I used to just go downstairs, dim the lights and just play as mindfully as I could. Give my whole attention, explore every inch every time, and sit with the feelings it evoked for hours. In the hurricane, it was my quiet place. I really feel like it saved my life. I'm so happy to see it being played and enjoyed even after all these years; I believe with my whole heart that every person should go on at least one Journey in their life. Thank you so much for taking the time to share it with us all again
I feel Journey has made me a better, more empathic person than I was before. It's my safe place, my escape from everyday pressures. Journey is part of my soul, and forever will be.
I remember my brother playing this game back when it came out and I always thought it was cool looking. This is honestly my favorite video of yours now. Im not sure why but this made me really emotional. Thanks for revisiting this, I had completely forgotten about it before.
An absolutely gorgeous game and one that means a LOT to me. I adore this soundtrack, and will often start singing “I Was Born For This” randomly to myself-like today. I don’t speak any French, Old English, or the other languages sung in the song, except for the Japanese-and somehow, this beautiful, indecipherable song in a wordless game suddenly slipping into intelligibility before fading back out into pure feeling makes me tear up every time.
I'm hoping that you get to attend a concert performance of the music of _Journey,_ Sean. I went to one a couple years ago, right before the pandemic hit -- not only did Austin Wintory conduct the thing and talk about some of the development history behind the music, the performance was synced with a live play-through of the whole game, like the ultimate surround-sound. It was absolutely magical.
I only got to buy this game last year and I think I've played it 6 times or more already, it's just so good as an experience that you transcend while playing it. Definitely on my top10 video games and absolutely always will be on my recommended to anyone. Edit: I actually cannot believe this game is 10 years old already and realizing that the first time I've seen it was so long ago definitely doesn't feel as bad as it is nostalgic
I remember watching this playthrough years ago, it was so relaxing (especially with no-facecam Sean quietly explaining what was happening). Watching that old playthrough years later is such a nostalgic feeling. I felt like a little kid again, for an hour I forgot about all my worries in life and pretended to be my young naive self again.
This game had so much nostalgia for me. I distinctly remember coming back from school and checking the channel to see if a new episode has released. I'm glad there's another playthrough for me to watch now that i discovered this video.
BRO journey is that ONE game that i played over and over again on my brother's PS3 growing up... like i was not a gamer at all in that age but something about this game,, perfection.
Aww Jack, there was a video game soundtrack performance last summer in London for the Proms, and they had both Shadow of the Colossus & Journey as part of their performance... bless you, you would have loved it. It was something else to hear it in person, a real highlight of the year.
No way! This is one of my favorite games ever, this also like clicked my brain that games could be diffrent, had no clue you played this 9 years ago (clearly the golden era) this game means a lot to me, thank you sooo much Jack ❤️
When i played the game there was someone there with me the entire journey and by the end of the game we warmed eachother through the cold until we no longer could, i had tears in my eyes as i saw him collapse lifeless in the snow and i followed soon after. I wasn't completely certain it was another person until i saw their name pop up in the end and that just felt so meaningful to me that another person was there every step of the way.
I think what makes it even more special is that you can't actually talk to them, and if you meet several while playing, you can never really be sure who you were with at any one time, so you get to share a wonderful experience with someone you may never meet again, and that's a wonderful analogy of life as well.
I had the same experience of not being sure if it's a real person, even though I found their behaviour very human like, and then realizing it's a real person is such a special moment
I honestly didn't realise your playthrough of this was long enough ago to count as a nostalgia week. I didn't even click on it at first cause I figured someone had edited it together. This was one of my favourites you played and I'm so glad you're revisiting it. Makes me realise just how long I've been watching you though, I watched your vids constantly when I was a kid and I don't actually know how long its been. Thank you for this, properly had a time realisation and now feel really happy that you and I changed in ways where I almost always still enjoyed your content. You've always stuck being one of the big ones for me and I can't thank you enough for starting, thank you for keeping going, thank you for all those creations you've made that helped me along my way. Thank you Jack. I'm glad to go on this Journey parallel to you, hope to meet you one day.
Everything TGC puts out is amazing. I played Journey after playing Sky, and comparing the two is very interesting. I highly recommend playing Sky as well. The music, art, and storyline of the game is breathtakingly gorgeous. I hope to see you playing it soon! 🥳
I couldn’t help but draw similarities between the two games! Sky definetly pulls a lot from Journey, from its message of destruction by civilization, to the flying creatures and capes!
@@gayman8886 it’s so true. Since I played Sky first I was shocked by the similarities. I’m sure it would be the other way around as well. And yet, both games are amazing
@@gayman8886the setup of the different realms are parallel! Some parts are in different orders, and there are many side areas, but a lot of the central sections of each realm in Sky match up to places in journey.
I appreciate this being so calming and nice. I got broken up with yesterday from someone I was in love with for 15 years, finally got to be with for all of the last year, and... yeah. So shit's rough. Ready to breathe and relax and chill with this video.
The first time I saw Journey, I actually cried for some reason. I can't remember why, but I was just struck by how beautiful it was. Especially that sand sliding scene. I was moved.

I cannot express how much I appreciate Jack revisiting this game, I've watched the first series ages ago and fell in love with Journey. I listen to the OST so much and hearing the intro again made me tear up already. Such a good game, thank you so much for playing it again Jack, this has been wonderful to relive
This is 100% one of my go to comfort games honestly, if I have just had an awful week I will just go to this to decompress. Also holds a huge part to my childhood, thank you for playing this
The first time I played this game I had no idea the others were actual players. Me and one other player stuck together through the majority of the game then when the credits rolled and saw they were actual players I was overcome with this deep sense of connection to this person I will never meet in person. I was absolutely floored. Such a beautiful game.

My aunt gifted me this game, christmas 2019. I didn't get around to playing it until New Year's Eve. I didn't plan it, but I ended up completing it right at midnight when everyone was celebrating outside and setting off fireworks and shit. It was really an insane, ethereal moment for me.
That’s lovely
That sounds like a really special and memorable moment! It's always exciting to start a new game, and even more so when you can complete it in one sitting. It's great that you were able to have this experience on such a special night, surrounded by the celebration of the new year.
Playing video games can be a great way to relax and escape from the stresses of everyday life, and it sounds like you were able to have a really immersive and enjoyable experience. I hope you have many more memorable gaming moments in the future!
Plot twist: They we’re celebrating your special moment. 😁
not nice
I can see so much of what TGC took forward to sky. The way you slowly gain he ability to fly for longer, the way you slide in the sand, the fact that the game is so peaceful and beautiful despite being the aftermath of destruction, the music, the way your character calls, how the little scarf pieces are like the butterflies, the mountain that looks like Eden, I see a lot of associations and it's all so lovely.
Never seeing journey it was quite a surprise too see all the similarities between the two games
I like to think of Sky as a slightly more accessible version of Journey whose vision was more fleshed out.
This.
This is the true magic of Journey.

I never knew you could meet people
One time I met another player near the end of the game and they kept trying to get my attention to follow them.
Couple tips and tricks if you want them:
*That beginning area is a hub.
(Most useful for the sand sliding parts.)
*In the vast dune level, the scarf buddies you free will actually guide you.
They could also just want to sit with you. ;D
*Calling in the vicinity of a companion will refill their scarf a little bit. And standing close to each other will refill both scarves. Work together to make flight time last longer.
(Also, you definitely CAN climb the tower without activating any of the murals. It's best to try it with a white robe, but you can also do it if you have a companion that works well with you.)
It's funny, but for a game with no direct methods of communication between the randomly-matchmade players, there's almost a kind of sign language that _Journey_ players use to 'talk' to each other -- I've played the game on and off for years now, and I regularly see similar patterns of calls and movements to signal different requests or alerts.
also there's an achievement for sitting with someone for a few seconds
Seeing this game and then the current game by the same company Sky: Children of the Light really shows the improvement of the devs and also how connected the two games are
That's what I was gonna say! I found Sky: COTL first, and am now being exposed to Journey, and MAN there's so much the two share!
Anyone who's played _Journey_ will feel right at home in _Sky._
truly

First time I ever played, I ran into this one person about mid game. They kept waiting for me even though I sucked at platforming. We did the rest of the game together. Then at the end I noticed I was going into the light a little faster than him so I went back to find them and the second I heard their little chime I started crying.

The only warning I'd give about it is the last realm, which should be played with another, more experienced player if it's your first time
Eye of Eden nearly killed me trying to complete the first time but I met some good friends who helped me through
the few times i've played through the last realm i did it by myself vgcyhfshy
When I was a moth I somehow didn't lose any wings and I went alone. NOW I LOSE WINGS EVERYTIME LMAO
I was about to ask if they had the same company cuz this game reminded me another like sky
I go back to this game a couple times a year, and surprisingly I usually meet another traveler. There is just something special about Journey.
The game devs also has another game called "Children of the light" its pretty much a non ending journey of where you find glowing children so you can fly more, its also multiplayer
And recently, sky has been released on ps4 and ps5 with a journey exclusive collab!
YES! I love sky sm it’s such a lovely game
Omgg be cool to see Jack play this one 😭😭 its one of my fav
I was wondering why it reminded me of Sky😅
YES I COMMENTED THIS TOO!! We NEED to be friends bro
im sick while living on my own for the first time, this is just the comfort I needed
hope u feel better soon :)
If you don’t feel better I’ll slap you
@@quratulaiiin im doing better now still got a cough but I've been able to go to class!
Good luck out there! :D
Journey was so amazing. The developers also made a game called Sky: Children of the Light, which is a cute little game that me and my husband play all the time together. The game is pretty similar but has more detail and instead of a "scarf" you have wings and little stars on it to show how much you have. If you liked journey I recommend playing it ♡
Sky also has the same environmentally positive messaging and honesty scary beautiful idea of "having to" get back up at the 'end' every time just to do it again for whats left of your world
Hi fellow sky player. I love sky for the environment. Flying after finishing the base game still relaxes me a lot.
@@Patricia_H it's such an amazing game and even better when you play with a friend/partner. I hope everyone can enjoy this game in their own way
I just started playing Sky and I love it! I’ve made some good friends in that game
i think ive played this game over 20 times, more than any other game ive played, and every time i finish it i cry. the music makes my heart swell and the story is so strong even without any dialogue. i love Journey.
I loved the game, i have gotten white robes and still had gone for many adventures, helping newer people as i was helped as i was new. It was a really amazing jurney.
I LOVED the original Journey playthrough. Major nostalgia.
Dude remember him hiding his accent and having no facecam and remember jack playing skate 3. Dude its so awesome to just remembering stuff like this.
@fours02 🇬🇧 😂
@fours02 🇬🇧 alright then
Yea same, I'm drinking a bowl of piss as I'm watching
@@Mush207tf is funny about that? They aren’t even joking, they are literally just being racist.
Gotta get your humour checked bro 😐
I’ve played Sky for three years now, and although I’ve always known about Journey I’ve never seen it until now. It is incredible for it’s time.
Seeing how Journey paved the way for Sky makes me filled with all sorts of happiness and wonder. Sky is far from a perfect game, but I don’t mind that. I’ve seen people theorize that Sky and Journey take place in the same world, and I can totally see that now!
There’s a special kind of joy I feel seeing a game that is so similar to one I love so dearly.
This game is so nostalgic to me! I loved the first time you played it, it was an amazing experience
(^ ^)
No wonder it reminded me soo much of sky.
@@itsame_radey7240 both games are made by the same company; That Game Company.
Sky is an amazing game!
Jack needs to see this👀👀
@@itsame_radey7240 Yup, playing it makes you see the similarities
I have always wanted to see an up to date play through of this game, so thank you for this, Jack! :)
my first exposure to thatgamecompany was sky: children of the light, which i had heard about but only just started playing last year on my switch. it's a very neat game, and i hear about journey quite a lot as well so i can't wait to see how it is.
I started watching when he did Night in the Woods and first started experimenting with VR, so I'm waiting for one of those to come back
I play Sky (made by the same company, highly recommend), so I'm super excited to see what it's all about
Edit: oh there's so many similarities. Journey came before Sky and I can see where Sky got a lot of its inspiration. Cudos to ThatGameCompany for making such beautiful games
where do you download sky
@@juliandunn1174 app store on iOS, google play store on android, PlayStation and Nintendo switch (the game is free) :]
:0 same I love Sky ^^
samee. I actually had to pause the vid when I realized someone was playing guitar in grandma's igloo, so I switched my earphones to my phone to listen to them for a while lol
same, im currently replaying it for the third time lol its so good
This game meant so much to me in middle school.
Something about this game makes me feel so small, and yet so big at the same time
I LOVED this game when I was young… I vividly remember I never got past the jellyfish until I was twelve, asking myself why and remembering all of the hauntingly delightful memories.
I feel like jack/sean's love of this game would make him want to play sky and see all the stuff sky got from it
My first time playing sky I was rickrolled by someone playing a flute through a candle.
Funny enough he does play Sky with Gab! I'm not sure if he'll ever make a video playing it but we'll never know.
BRO journey is that ONE game that i played over and over again on my brother's PS3 growing up... like i was not a gamer at all in that age but something about this game,, perfection.
god this game's soundtrack is one of the greatest of all time
The body dies, but the spirit soars!
Aww Jack, there was a video game soundtrack performance last summer in London for the Proms, and they had both Shadow of the Colossus & Journey as part of their performance... bless you, you would have loved it. It was something else to hear it in person, a real highlight of the year.
I have never seen or heard of this game before so I am really surprised about what I will see
me too
This is a beautiful game. You can get the complete collection if games from this company on ps4.
@fours02 🇬🇧 so relatable
Same
@@KovarrBlue We would "talk" to each other using the shouting button, it was really fun in a weird way
I honestly didn't realise your playthrough of this was long enough ago to count as a nostalgia week.
Long Long Scaaaaaaaaarf! Was kinda hoping to see a Long Long Man joke in this lol
@@gayman8886 they're made by the same developers
@@gayman8886 All of TGC’s games are very similar, they roughly follow the same formula but they’re all still good
@@gayman8886the setup of the different realms are parallel! Some parts are in different orders, and there are many side areas, but a lot of the central sections of each realm in Sky match up to places in journey.
Yesss!!! I first fell in love with this game when I watched Felix’s play through of it back in 2013! It’s just as beautiful as I remembered it :)
SAME! I never forgot that he named his companion Bengt. Such a good time!
I appreciate this being so calming and nice. I got broken up with yesterday from someone I was in love with for 15 years, finally got to be with for all of the last year, and... yeah. So shit's rough. Ready to breathe and relax and chill with this video.
Whenever I'm having a really rough mental health day I put on Journey's soundtrack on and just try to vibe. So happy to see Sean play it again ❤️
We should take a moment to appreciate how hard Sean has been working to entertain us for all of these years. Absolute legend.
The first time I saw Journey, I actually cried for some reason. I can't remember why, but I was just struck by how beautiful it was. Especially that sand sliding scene. I was moved.
as a wildland firefighter preparing to travel away from home again... thank you jack.. this is what i needed. along with the rest of your FULL GAME episodes.. love it
I cannot express how much I appreciate Jack revisiting this game, I've watched the first series ages ago and fell in love with Journey. I listen to the OST so much and hearing the intro again made me tear up already. Such a good game, thank you so much for playing it again Jack, this has been wonderful to relive
Quite sad that it looks like this would be a lonely journey to the mountain, knowing the age of the gane, it's understandable
Crazily enough, I played this game in 2021 multiple times and encountered multiple other players. It’s never a lonely journey.
