1:41:32 Omg I just realized, the reason you hear no sound in that room is because the view from the camera itself isn't in that room. You're in a chamber and you can see if you look towards the bottom! Theres computers or panels of some sort but theres an outline of where the glass would be to look into the room, like how the scientists at the top were looking in!
THATS WHAT I REALIZED TOO the devs did SUCH an awesome job with that section i never caught on until this playthrough even after watching the original one he did multiple times
which begs the question of whether this proves that you, as the camera, are a separate entity from the boy? Could this be a tiny detail piece of evidence to support the, "You are mind-controlling the boy" theory? Very interesting.
@@reydragonclaw1128 I think it just means that the other people behind glass probably have their backs turned, and the glass is soundproof, explaining why they don't react to all the noise the boy's making.
I'd like that as well because it'd allow for him to replay some of the longer series. I'd personally love it if he revisited some of the longer games like night in the woods, sally face, or franbow. But they wouldn't be feasible for just one video I don't think. I wouldn't expect it to make it into nostalgia week but manual Samuel is an underrated series as well imo. One that would fit in one video i'd love to see this week is kerbal space program (KSP 2 is also coming out not far away really hope he plays it as well, comes out feb next year) or evie bot.
I mean, he does do that alredy. Recording what he wants, when he wants to. (I guess you mean games he already played, that would be good for some of them too.)
my initial impression of the game without having any prior knowledge of it: it reminds me a lot of little nightmares, and i wonder if little nightmares was inspired in some way by INSIDE. an hour in: sean confirms this
omg same exact thought re little nightmares.. and when he mentioned this being the inspo for it I felt proud of myself, but then definitely felt called out at 1:58:00 lol
@@georgia2321 i wonder than what the "meta" for little nightmares was. cuz i don't understand the glutton people getting on the boat, why you're not an adult but a child, why you're food @_@ oof
exactly, little nightmares is probably both my favourite indie game as well as horror game and this reminds me a lot of it, hoping next nostalgia week jack will play little nightmares again
The dogs running away when you unplug that one node made me think the dogs were being mind controlled, too. They’re vicious as hell… because they were forced to be. Once the mind control stops because you unplug the node, they run scared like regular dogs. Remember, the pig was aggressive too, until you remove the worm controlling it.
But what would be controlling the dogs? We never see a worm on them? maybe some sort of chip? but the mind control doesn’t seem that advanced to be put in a chip
i think the dog can be smarter if they are under control, example the fence puzzle where the boy need to pull out the 3 board from the door and the dogs are going after the boy, if they are controlled they wont fall to the same tricks over and over, also thete are 3 of the dogs, they can strategize and split up or something. Also the humans that got controlled dont 'care' of dying, but the dogs somehow is afraid of dying showed that they wont jumped of a clif to follow the boy on the first lvl of the game But who knows
Why control the dogs when you can do that without any tech. I personally think they keep mind control away from them because dogs instincts to sniff out non drones would be hindered.
@@Meokka well, if you consider the boy's ability to still breath underwater AFTER being detached from the cord the fish-girl sticks on him.... If you also consider the boy goes into "sleep mode" after the secret ending device is shut off, implying he was being controlled remotely the ENTIRE TIME.... ...
@@Meokka worms were never knocked out of them like they were with the pig, they could still be in the heads of the dogs, we just can't see it because they get turned off and their hosts run away with it still inside
Honestly listening to you talk about all this stuff is cool itself I don’t know anything about making games but because of you I now enjoy those tiny details and I love that you explain those details makes everyone appreciate it more!!
"All of you guys at home you're storytellers you just don't know it." I can't begin to explain how much character a statement like this shows. So much passion for art. So much faith in other people.
The saddest thing about the farm section is chicks imprint so them following the little boy mean that he is most likely the first living thing they've seen since they've hatched. Edit: thank you all so much for all the likes🥰💖
2:23:08 I think order of control goes like this: you the player controling the machine/computers attached with the mind control helmet in that secret room, have wires that connect to control the blob that controls the boy. So when you unplug the wire from machine to blob, it cannot control the boy anymore, the machine turn off and the boy return to his drone state. Player-machine-blob-boy. Its layers of control and might be able to be extended forever infinitely.
What if it means that the blob is controlling you (in front of your screen) and the blob is making you control the boy? Could be either honestly up for debate
@@xItzRevenge Impossible, the player (us) always has free will, we will always be the top layer of control. There's no breaking that rule. You control the boy is not bc the blob or anything telling you, you just want to. So the theory that the player controlling the boy - through - the blob (without knowing it and thought they directly controlling the boy) make more sense.
@@barry8871 well... that's debatable! you can choose to just not play the game, of course, but you cannot progress in the game without doing what the game (blob) wants you to do. games like Undertale and the Stanley Parable explore these ideas, and you could read Inside as a comment on them.
What I love about the name is how it dawns on you as you play through it several times. At first you think "I started outside, then I went inside, and at the end I'm outside again." But then you see the trees indoors and realize that maybe the forest at the beginning is actually part of this complex. And then it finally clicks what the diorama is depicting, and you realize that even at the end, *you're still inside*
This game is an absolute gem. It stays interesting, enjoyable, and mysterious the whole way through. The aesthetic was ominous and hauntingly beautiful, as well. Fantastic game.
aside from visuals and sound design not much else is above even mediocrity joseph anderson made a video on the game like 6 years ago that explains alot of what i would say anyways in a better way
My favorite part is the intensity of the heartbeat in the sections like "pretending to be a drone" such subtle touches that makes your heart race while playing a slowed section of a game, which is so unsettling but awesome!
@@joodini3723 No. I'm not and didn't imply that at all. Where tf did you come up with that nonsense? My WHOLE COMMENT was how stupid it is to find a normal person doing normal person things.... And on the same side. 🙄 Now leave me alone until you can actually grasp the context of my statement, because I'm guessing you'll misinterpret the boat metaphor as well. Thanks, have a nice day.... Or a nicer one than this interaction at least.
I have a mild cynophobia (fear of dogs), and the dogs in this game are one of the most terrifying things I've seen in a video game... The sounds they make chill me to the bone even when watching a playthrough...
its not just that the dogs in this game are just terrifying, they're barely dogs at this point and it doesn't help that the audio for their barking almost has clip distortion on it (making it more fierce and vicious)
dude literally the same here, because circumstance i gotta live with my aunt's family, and they have a dog and every single day i am terrified for my life when that thing barks
Jack talking about sound made me think of probably one of the best horror movies I watched. It’s called Hush and the main character is completely deaf and living in the woods and they treat the situation from her perspective of how she would take the situation in. She can’t hear the person but there’s all these other things she’s paying attention. Beautifully done in my opinion
hush was beautifully terrifying. however, i'd have to say Silence of the Lambs, Halloween Kills (specifically out of all the halloween movies) and Pet Semetary (the original) are my top 3 favorite horror movies. Pet Semetary makes me cry.
Inside truly is a whole nother experience, the mystery behind the story is what makes it so amazing as you uncover more pieces leading up to the ending, truly amazing game highly recommend

1:27:28 “How much of a human could they remove but still control them and have them carry out the functions of a human.” Sounds like the 40 hour work week
It's interesting how many of Sean's favorite games combine the same set of elements: a distinctive visual design that incorporates effective lighting and a grand sense of scale, strong sound design that serves to reinforce the visual aesthetic and add depth to the world itself, and a narrative that can be told with little to no dialogue simply by taking in the story that's told by the sights and sounds of the world.
My assumption is with regards the large machine that pulsates, it was the original experiment to control people on a much larger scale, it’s a power node to facilitate large amounts of control. However, in turning it on it was simply too powerful and destroyed the surrounding areas.
I really wish there was another game like this. A 2D puzzle game disguised in a 3D world with a vague story is so intriguing. Somerville was cool too, but the loneliness and more secretive story make this one just feel so much more mysterious and creepy.
Little nightmares is similar. Overarching plot is great and there’s tons of hints and symbols to plot points throughout. Plus, for a horror game it’s very cosy. You can hold hands with your friend in the second game :)
My favorite explaination for the story is something I've read years ago. The idea would be that Inside is a metaphor for cancer. The boy would be something that get inside a human body and try to evade the guards (white cells) by using the "zombies" worker (cells) to cause a tumor (the blob monstruosity you control at the end). The big machine creating shockwave would be the effect of chimio, good at destroying both cancerous cells and the body. Eventually offices workers (doctors) are able to trick you to fall of the city (chirurgy to remove the tumor). The secret code used to get the second ending could be the cancer resurfacing and being able the shortcut through the body since it has already mutated and reprogramme it this way. Of course this is not the confirm explaination and would love to hear different theory on the story.
That sounds so crazy but it weirdly makes a lot of sense. I mean here was me interpreting it how every evil government Syfy is depicted and thinking that the poor and homeless get picked off into a career as a mindless nothing that is meant for labor for the high middle class and the elites.
@@eryyy554 Didn't think about it, but I think he might be the only child and the only one with red color. That's the kind of stuff I absolutely love, tiny details, big implications.
I always wonder about how the boy seems to be the most "free" at the beginning, even though there are people out there seemingly rounding people up, like, he's out in just farmland. Why does he go *towards* the factory? Is he trying to infiltrate the factory is that the whole goal? Or is it that although he seems to have more free will than the others, there's still some sort of hold on him drawing him into the facilities? Or is some other Thing controlling him in order to wreak havoc on the lab & join the meatball etc? Like it seems like the most preferable option would just be to stay & live with the lil chickens, no?
It was always my understanding that the flesh amalgamation was a giant hivemind of sorts that had dominion over the 'slave' people then some greedy bastards imprisoned it for money/power/control, thus controlling the masses. However it's consciousness was just free enough to coerce the boy, unbenounced to it's captors, to liberate it which is why he melds with it towards the end. Freeing the hivemind meatball frees the people. Could be some edgy reference to modern day politics or economics, I like to just think it's a good game.
After rewatching the original playthrough, I'm so happy that Jack has gone from praying that the ending isn't ambiguous to praising how the ambiguous ending allows you to come up with your own theories and imagine what's really happening. That's character development.
sean: you are more than welcome to interpret things in your own way, subvert your own expectations, now you have your own unique experience with something everyone can experience also sean: maybe im just overthinking and thats not at all what the devs intended
Fun fact: right after the sonic boom/pulse chapter and after you leave the sunken elevator you enter a room with a slightly cracked open door and inside it is a green glow, stand there for a little bit and you'll see a person peering in to see what you're doing, It's super freaking creepy and I was terrified when I found it out myself. Also another fun fact is that there’s a very tiny and extremely small Limbo boy at the very beginning in the woods chapter. This game is one of my favorites for sure!
During the part where you mind control a guy to push you dangling under the track when you open the floor to reveal the water and the guys below start freaking out if you dont drop and wait long enough the guys who ran off come back with one of the wall-e spotlight robots, aim it up, and kill you
sean, you might think you're explaining like you're playing smartass but just to let you know, at least to me it's useful. i'm not a native english speaker so something that you might think is common knowledge might not be one to me. i hope other viewers have similar views with me :) i'm thankful that you like this game so much to the point of letting everyone know what you think of it!
listening to sean talk about lighting and sound design is super satisfying, him gushing over everything in all the games he plays makes me appreicate it more in all the games I play now
To me a movie that feels like Inside is Stalker by Andrej Tarkovskij, it’s a sci-fi movie that combines themes of philosophical, psychological and theological nature - a cinéma d’auteur type of movie I’m fond of and that I cannot recommend enough.
Just so you know, the dogs are called holfs, and the creepy underwater kids are called sirens. The holfs are a crossbreed of hounds and wolfs, and the sirens are lids that were experimented on until they found a sustainable way for people to live underwater.
Little Nightmares is one of my favorite games ever. I know it was based off this game, Inside is such a good game and it coming back for Nostalgia Week is sooooo cool!
Sorry to be that guy but ppl say this a lot & it’s acc not true. Little nightmares was in production long before Inside was released. Their similarities are only rlly superficial, aesthetically & thematically they’re v different
@@nevermind3013 yes but when inside came out little nightmares was about half finished so it did end up inspiring the second half of the game edit: also in little nightmares 2 the giant six at the end of the game was definitely inspired by the blob even if it's only a little bit
The first think I thought of was also Little Nightmares. I love that game. I don't think these two games are supper different in game play wise but the story I could see that being said.
I actually studied this game in my Master's class this past semester! It was my professors favorite video game so he integrated it in to our discussions of new media. I absolutely fell in love with it and LOVED talking about it on such a deep and intellectual level! Everything Jack says reminds me of that class haha
This is why I like Jack. I like that he talks about game design, lighting, music, sound effects, etc. I HOPE he does talks more about his point of views when it comes to this. Waited for him to play INSIDE again, and the wait was worth ✌🏼
I just want to say that, as a games art and design student, I really really appreciate Jack’s commentary, whether it be on how pretty he thinks the lights are or the deeper meaning about design choices. His thoughts give me a lot of insight and have actually inspired me to take the course in the first place :)
I love games like this, where the story isn't being told but it's being told as the world unfolds as it progresses even more when the puzzles are connected to the story, your mind trying to unravel the lore of what's being told I love it.
its also noteworthy that the fish haven't eaten the blob experiments right after we get water breathing, despite the blobs having been there a long time. Almost like the fish know they aren't natural...
I’d love to see a Machinarium play through in this format. It’s a little gem. It’s an indie game that came out before RUclips was big, so it could use some love and it’s a hand painted point and click adventure so it aged well.
I love the fanfic mindset of "once you know a story and have developed your own ideas of how it should be, you have your own version of that story you wrote by yourself". Exactly my thoughts. Less death of the author and more.... Debating the author 😂
holy hell imagine if the blob we see jack play as at the end of the game is just another mutant in "The Forest". The virginia mutant is creepy as hell, I'd be hitting the highest notes if I saw this thing charging right at me. just a thought
I played this game for the first time HOURS before you posted this... so being able to play the whole game, and experience it again with you was kinda awesome!
"Why am I talking to you like you're a baby" you're not, most of us do not see it as you being condescending. You're a fellow neurodivergent person who is excited about something and jazzed to share it with folks who care :) like us! I've learned a lot from you, never stop explaining things that you think are cool or make you happy!
This!! It feels really nice and comforting :) I do the exact same thing and find myself always apologizing for being exited about something and shutting down because I feel like I'm too much, so even though I'm not talking to him or anything it kinda feels like hanging out with a friend who understands me and we can share our excitement for these things you know? :) ♡
My theory behind this is that the kid you play as is being controlled by the person who made all those underground or secret rooms so you can unplug the reach of the other people that control. Sorta like taking away some strings from the puppet master while also finding a way to destroy the kid, with the result of the blob's escape. And the person controlling the kid is probably wanted by the others who control and the people who control knows that the wanted person is controlling the kid, that's why they will shoot you on sight or grab you. Then again, someone already said this. And probably explain it better
This is not Sean playing Inside, this is Sean simping for sound design. Don't get me wrong tho, I adore the high-quality sound-design, the music and the sound effects in this game. It's amazing.
Jack talking about Inside being his comfort game is exactly how I feel about Little Nightmares 1 & 2, but 2 especially. I'm not able to play games often though, so instead I put on Jack's playthroughs of both whenever I need comfort or to steady myself. It always works 😊
@@Morrigan855 I know for fact it's on PC and Nintendo Switch. Idk about Playstation or Xbox but it might be on there too. There's a mobile possibility too
There’s something about this niche genre of like Scandinavian side-scrolling puzzle platformers that I just adore. Limbo, Inside, Little Nightmares and Unravel. They all follow the same basic concept, but execute it in such interesting and unique ways.
There's nothing I love more than listening to someone talk about something that they are passionate about. And listening to you talking about sound and lighting, even though I don't understand anything about the technicals of making a video game, I feel secondhand appreciation for these things because of how well you express how much you like them. Please don't ever apologize for going on and on about something that you are passionate about. Inside was actually the first series I ever watched from Jack. Getting involved with this channel opened so many door ways for me. I owe a lot to this game. Feels great to see it again👍
Don't know how I never caught it my first time playing it, but our protagonist in this game, makes me think of the little girl in the red coat in Schindler's List. Thematically, I do believe this game draws from that film, which was obviously based on real life events, but there are of course other sources of reference and inspiration for this game, with similar themes.
I honestly love how Jack has been playing games that people think are the perfect recommendation to play. These games all seem to have such interesting stories, characters, gameplay, etc. This basically shows that gaming companies are trying to open up and expand for gamer to experience what they have created for big ideas. Also Jack’s reactions when he sees just how creative these games can be can help lead an a very huge impact to future projects.
I’ve always had a theory about the secret ending. It’s not that he becomes a mindless drone. He was the drone before controlled by the player and once you pull the cord, he’s free. The screen goes dark bc we can no longer see through him and control his movements.
i love creating stories but have the hardest time building a medium to express them. I instantly gave a like when you said "We are all story tellers" because we are and finding what story we'll be telling is the journey. ty Jack
Okay. So, you mentioned how writers of this game are able to tell a story without talking. Although I don't know a movie with that kind of writing, I do know an episode of a TV show that does that and it does it astonishingly well. I didn't even notice it the first time i watched it, and the only reason I noticed it the second time it's because at the end there is one sentence said, which got me thinking like, "wait, did they just not talk?". Yes I know it's just one episode, but hear me out. This is the darkest show that I have watched ever, it's about hacking first and foremost, but also about the mental state of the main character, his addiction to drugs, and the society. The most amazing element of the show for me is the fact that the main character is talking to you, the viewer. To him you are this imaginary friend that gets to see the world through his eyes. The show is called Mr. Robot, and i honestly can't recommend this show enough, Sam Esmail did such a wonderful job with it. I hope you Sean see this comment and decide to watch it, but also anyone else who found this comment. Have a nice day evreryone!

The only thing that comes to mind when I played this game was the Old Test Chambers in Portal 2 that Cave Johnson made. The combination of some overgrowth on top of these spherical chambers slowly breaking apart overtime. It creates this decaying scene that feels quite lonely if you stay in one place for long enough, (with only the exception of voice lines from Cave Johnson at different points and eventually, GLaDOS). It feels very similar to the somewhat empty nature that INSIDE portrays.
hey jack i think it would be cool if you could replay limbo in the future. I haven't seen the game but the way you talk about how amazing it is i think it would definitely be worth the watch :)
there is a horror film me and my dad watched called Possum - there is very little explanation to anything, and everything just feels off, the acting is phenomenal and the story is very strange. i get the same feeling of unease when playing this game of course this is only my opinion and the film may not have any comparison whatsoever
I love Sean being all passionate and just TALKING for the sake of talking about it and just enjoying playing a damn good game. It's super entertaining and just nice to have on. Makes me feel like we're all just chilling having a good time watching our friend play a game. It's cool.
idk, it further spreads the idea that inside is "a damn good game" when it's far from it it has great visuals and sound design, but most of everything else barely even scratches mediocrity, joseph anderson made a video on the game like 6 years ago which goes into much more detail than i'm willing to
Man seeing Jack grow from like 2015-2016 to now has been crazy, id be lying if i said ive seen every video, but to see the difference is from then to now is just awesome, love the videos Jack
Games with visual storytelling like Inside or Little Nightmares are always so fun and immersive because it gets people to be more interactive as everyone tries to piece the puzzle and theorize what the story means or what symbolic message it's getting across. Games that make you think beyond what it shows give me a greater appreciation and are definitely the best in my opinion.
Thanks for all you do jack. My dog just died suddenly and you're videos are really helping me get through it. You're such a good genuine person and a great role model.
As for movies that are sort of reminiscent of Inside, I'd say I Am Mother feels a little bit like Inside here and there. Some elements of James Cameron's The Abyss also kind of remind of Inside. Those are the ones that immediately come to my mind.
Came back here to drop one trivia: I just realized that the scene where the boy is being chased in the beginning of the game is totally ispired by the chasing sequence in No country for old men. Even small details such as how the car is framed in some scenes or raging dogs seem to have inspired Playdead.
This game is def. amazing and when I first saw you play this, my favorite part was every time you'd be scared of something or amazed, I loved watching your reaction. It would either be funny as hell or funny as hell.
I think the fact that you step forward nine times when pretending to be controlled is actually pretty meaning in itself. The number nine represents completion without an end, the fulfillment of one thing only to prepare for the next, and the flow of life.
i feel like a big reason why sean is still popular is because a lot of his audience including me have matured alongside his style of recording videos if that makes sense
also worth mentioning that not only does the player character not have its own free will, but the player doesn't either. you aren't given an option not to use those chicks and the hog and so on to get what you want, you simply have to do it to progress
So glad you played this again! I watched your Inside playthrough ages ago and immediately fell in love with the game. Loved all your commentary this time, really insightful and interesting to listen to. As for recommendations that are similar to Inside, I don't think I have ever seen something quite like this game, but I can recommend you a few short films that have a similar vibe, or that are really cool soft sci-fi stories that I think you would like: - La Jetée (1962) by Chris Marker - Don Hertzfeldt's World of Tomorrow trilogy - Umbra (2010) by Malcolm Sutherland - Coda (2013) by Alan Holly - Scavengers (2016) by Joseph Bennett and Charles Huettner - Zygotte (2017) by Neill Blomkamp (this one specifically very reminiscent of the blob from Inside) Edit: forgot to add Peripheria (2012) by David Coquard-Dassault
Your appreciation of art and way of words when talking about story telling really puts lots in perspective for me as an artist and writer. I am very inspired after watching this video and hearing what you have to stay about mystery and its relativity to story. I think sometimes as artists and writers we get so caught up in adding every single component that we forget sometimes the lack of something can be the biggest component of a story in itself.
I literally just started playing this game yesterday and got stuck on one of the parts so I'm really glad you just released this video! Such a cool game!
When I played Limbo, I was blown away by the art style! It was so moody and foreboding, like an F. W. Murnau film. But INSIDE took that to a whole new level. It kept all of the foggy background elements, but added so many layers of depth and scale! This is one of the most artistically beautiful and horrifying games I've ever played.
Watching Sean find bassy sounds as enjoyable as I do is so awesome. I’ve always had an obsession over them in games so it’s cool to find someone who thinks the same
The sound design and enviroment of Inside alone has made it one of my favorite games of all time. it's one of those types of games that are oh so confusing but you just have this incredible urge to know more about the world and the story that the game is telling you about. It takes talent to tell such an interesting story without a single line of dialogue! The visuals and worldbuilding is astonishing and to this day i still replay it every once in a while and just think about what i would give just to re-live that experience for the first time again
Hey Jacky boy. Absolutely loved this game when I played and so awesome watching you play and commentate. One call out is the part where they completely cut out all sound and you said it was cut for no reason. If you look in the foreground you can see you’re perspective is actually from behind viewing glass. Notice the no. 4 on the glass and the computers. This game thought of everything.
played this with my dad not so long ago just because it looked fun. but it absolutely blew me away! definitely in my top 5 games ever. the way it looks, sounds, and just the feel of it.
The sound is so simple yet it balances the calming atmosphere and big booming moments while making it so uncomfortable you scare yourself and they don't need to use cheap jump scares to make me feel that, they make me scare myself and I love that

Also the humans that got controlled dont 'care' of dying, but the dogs somehow is afraid of dying showed that they wont jumped of a clif to follow the boy on the first lvl of the game
But who knows
Why control the dogs when you can do that without any tech. I personally think they keep mind control away from them because dogs instincts to sniff out non drones would be hindered.
@@Meokka well, if you consider the boy's ability to still breath underwater AFTER being detached from the cord the fish-girl sticks on him....

Its layers of control and might be able to be extended forever infinitely.
fauci-player-machine-blod-boy /s
What if it means that the blob is controlling you (in front of your screen) and the blob is making you control the boy? Could be either honestly up for debate
The theme being that even you at your screen, are a puppet of the blob (maybe society?)
@@xItzRevenge Impossible, the player (us) always has free will, we will always be the top layer of control. There's no breaking that rule. You control the boy is not bc the blob or anything telling you, you just want to.

@@barry8871 well... that's debatable! you can choose to just not play the game, of course, but you cannot progress in the game without doing what the game (blob) wants you to do. games like Undertale and the Stanley Parable explore these ideas, and you could read Inside as a comment on them.

But then you see the trees indoors and realize that maybe the forest at the beginning is actually part of this complex. And then it finally clicks what the diorama is depicting, and you realize that even at the end, *you're still inside*
Good point! Not to mention the analogy as well of going inside someone’s mind/controlling them

Little nightmares is similar. Overarching plot is great and there’s tons of hints and symbols to plot points throughout. Plus, for a horror game it’s very cosy. You can hold hands with your friend in the second game :)
Check out Planet of Lana.
I mean here was me interpreting it how every evil government Syfy is depicted and thinking that the poor and homeless get picked off into a career as a mindless nothing that is meant for labor for the high middle class and the elites.
that's a good one. the boy dress in red as well implying a virus color

@@earthing3696 am I shadow banned or something? I literally just posted my theory right before you commented lmao

After rewatching the original playthrough, I'm so happy that Jack has gone from praying that the ending isn't ambiguous to praising how the ambiguous ending allows you to come up with your own theories and imagine what's really happening. That's character development.
I love to imagine Sean walking into the bathroom every morning and when he looks in the mirror he says, "LOOK AT THOSE REFLECTIONS"
"my god, look at how the sink water reflects the lights. that ray-tracing is phenomenal!"
sean: you are more than welcome to interpret things in your own way, subvert your own expectations, now you have your own unique experience with something everyone can experience
also sean: maybe im just overthinking and thats not at all what the devs intended
well, he never said the devs intended for freelance interpretation :))
Maybe he meant that's not what the devs interpreted their own story as?
And that’s why i think “interpret yourself” endings are kinda sucky

Sorta like taking away some strings from the puppet master while also finding a way to destroy the kid, with the result of the blob's escape. @@s4di.3 i hope I poked your interest with it, definitely worth the watch
*YESSS NOSTALGIA WEEK BABY!!!!*
This is what I've been waiting for.
Hi early commenter huh?

hey jack i think it would be cool if you could replay limbo in the future. I haven't seen the game but the way you talk about how amazing it is i think it would definitely be worth the watch :)
nice
Limbo is so fucking good
Limbo is great, just very old by now. I would love to see him play it again
I just recommend watching the initial series tbh
Literally just played this game and watched your last 3 eps. It's very nice seeing you play through all these games again!
there is a horror film me and my dad watched called Possum - there is very little explanation to anything, and everything just feels off, the acting is phenomenal and the story is very strange. i get the same feeling of unease when playing this game
of course this is only my opinion and the film may not have any comparison whatsoever
Possum is one of my all time favorite movies *ever*. Sean Harris is haunting in it. It’s such a grim, desolate little film.
I love Sean being all passionate and just TALKING for the sake of talking about it and just enjoying playing a damn good game. It's super entertaining and just nice to have on. Makes me feel like we're all just chilling having a good time watching our friend play a game. It's cool.
idk, it further spreads the idea that inside is "a damn good game" when it's far from it
it has great visuals and sound design, but most of everything else barely even scratches mediocrity, joseph anderson made a video on the game like 6 years ago which goes into much more detail than i'm willing to
I think those nodes are basically like range/ mesh extenders for whatever is making the mind control possible/ whatever is powering it
Man seeing Jack grow from like 2015-2016 to now has been crazy, id be lying if i said ive seen every video, but to see the difference is from then to now is just awesome, love the videos Jack

Journey, Shadow of the Collosus, now this! Sean does not disappoint, getting all the nostalgia
Don't forget plague inc

@@mikeamber2528 very true 😊
Jack talking excitedly about his passions is amazing and we need more of jack doing what he loves
This game is def. amazing and when I first saw you play this, my favorite part was every time you'd be scared of something or amazed, I loved watching your reaction. It would either be funny as hell or funny as hell.
e
I think the fact that you step forward nine times when pretending to be controlled is actually pretty meaning in itself. The number nine represents completion without an end, the fulfillment of one thing only to prepare for the next, and the flow of life.
are you saying this ironically? or is this an unironic "bravo vince" moment
Should do final station again. I love that game and can't go wrong with a secret scifi story.
i feel like a big reason why sean is still popular is because a lot of his audience including me have matured alongside his style of recording videos if that makes sense

"This is one of my comfort games."
Gets shot.
also worth mentioning that not only does the player character not have its own free will, but the player doesn't either. you aren't given an option not to use those chicks and the hog and so on to get what you want, you simply have to do it to progress
So glad you played this again! I watched your Inside playthrough ages ago and immediately fell in love with the game. Loved all your commentary this time, really insightful and interesting to listen to.
As for recommendations that are similar to Inside, I don't think I have ever seen something quite like this game, but I can recommend you a few short films that have a similar vibe, or that are really cool soft sci-fi stories that I think you would like:
- La Jetée (1962) by Chris Marker
- Don Hertzfeldt's World of Tomorrow trilogy
- Umbra (2010) by Malcolm Sutherland
- Coda (2013) by Alan Holly
- Scavengers (2016) by Joseph Bennett and Charles Huettner
- Zygotte (2017) by Neill Blomkamp (this one specifically very reminiscent of the blob from Inside)
Edit: forgot to add Peripheria (2012) by David Coquard-Dassault
Just a reminder you are allowed to edit comments without stating what the edit is
Thanks! Came here looking for these recs
This game thought of everything.
played this with my dad not so long ago just because it looked fun. but it absolutely blew me away! definitely in my top 5 games ever. the way it looks, sounds, and just the feel of it.
e
Omg same, I played it with my dad
I am so glad that you got the secret ending of this game Jack because I wanted to know about this so thank you for doing that in the game.
The sound is so simple yet it balances the calming atmosphere and big booming moments while making it so uncomfortable you scare yourself and they don't need to use cheap jump scares to make me feel that, they make me scare myself and I love that
Hey jack, I don’t know if you already have the games picked out for nostalgia week but I would LOVE to see you play Little Nightmares again, one of my favourite games too! ❤
The City Of Lost Children is a film that reminds me a lot of Inside in a way, very strange steampunk science fiction/fantasy film by the director of Amelie
I second this recommendation. Under-appreciated film, definitely worth a watch.
yes, I have seen it when it got out, it is not well known because it is an old french movie, but a great one, very weird and dark. Hope seán get's to see your recommendation and watch it.
I feel like the film 12 Monkeys has a slightly similar vibe, too.
Thank you Seán!
I’ve been watching every nostalgic episode so far and they also flood back so many memories.
Inside is a game I remember specifically because it was so ascetically pleasing to watch and I love the baby chicks!
I just failed a rather expensive driver’s test because I stopped for a pedestrian, so this made my day!
❤
Ah, that's rough! I once had a test for biking, and I failed because I was looking at the wrong stop light... And the chicks are absolutely adorable
@@Skzlovur7 I feel that lol.
You're supposed to stop for pedestrians because they automatically have right of way. Wtf
@@melissasabine7064 That’s what I said!
@@kaminari2985 did they tell you what you were supposed to do instead? What, create roadkill?? I’d rather come across you on the road than most people where I live lol, you aced it as far as I’m concerned.
I just finished this game for the first time, and I'm so glad I found your video while playing it, because it made the whole experience SO MUCH better. You're awesome and I think this is definitely one of the best video games I've ever played. Thank you sir! Subscribed right away.
