Great video next time leave out the oil and just use more sodium hydroxide. You shouldn't have to use a wire brush at all to clean parts.

A simpler, more effective, recipe is equal parts Dawn and distilled (white) vinegar. You can dilute it in some water or water+alcohol to make it spray more easily. The less you dilute it the better it works. You still have to agitate it to get anything clean. Dawn is a better degreaser than many other dish soaps.
I would not use vinegar and either baking powder or baking soda together. When you add baking powder or soda to vinegar, there will be a chemical reaction to neutralize the acid and the base. You end up with sodium acetate, water, and carbon dioxide bubbles. Those don't clean well as far as I know.
The drops of alcohol help stop the dish soap from making a lot of suds. Use more alcohol to cut them down faster.
Aren't all dishwashing soaps corrosive to metals
@@AS-ug2vq No for the most part. Though some automatic dishwasher detergents can be corrosive. If what you're using to wash your metal pots and pans corrodes them, you're using the wrong thing. Or they shouldn't go in the dishwasher.
Dawn is really good at being gentle. We use it to remove oil from wild life and I use it in my hair when I get oil or grease in it. The vinegar might not be a good idea if you don't rinse well. It will cause corrosion. But mild corrosives also clean well. Just rinse everything really well after you wash it. and make sure it dries completely so you don't trap water.
@joubess you should use distilled water not regular tap water and vinegar should be cleaning vinegar

I am willing to bet money that the best degreaser is the power tool you used (you would have got identical results with zero degreaser chemicals).

I made some up to degrease my mountain bike I'm doing up. Works a treat. Cost was next to nothing as all in the cupboard.

If you are using the Steel Brush to clean the rod then what is the use of spraying the degreaser???

I'm sorry. It's very difficult to take this video seriously. All that exotic ingredients for a bottle of homemade degreaser and still you had to tear it down and use a rotary steel brush to do the actual cleaning? The point of using a degreaser is to dissolve or loosen the grease/dirt enough so that it can be washed off with little to no effort.
I totally agree I searched for videos like this so I didn’t have to continue using a wire wheel on a grinder in a boat engine bay .

next time try baking soda not power
100g soiumbicarbonat
700ml of vinegar
4 Tablespoon Dishsoap
100ml Ethanol
Full up rest with water up to 5liter
I added sodium hydroxide(caustic soda), its more powerful to remove grease and soil..
If you're going to use vinegar don't use the baking soda it just wastes it. Vinegar with soap is okay

I think the formula you made is cool👍,but not to be an ass, your using power wire brush. I use one ,a power brush with degreaser , same shiny metal, 😁 good vid though. I watched whole thing.someone told me brake clean works really good. I haven’t tried though.
Hemp seed oil ? I will not be putting that in there. Plenty of oil on the engine already.

Hemp seed oil does nothing
You need to clarify your ingredients list. You said a quarter bottle of dish soap - well what size bottle? You put some text that it was 1/4 cup of dish soap - you poured out a whole lot more than 1/4 of a cup. I thought at first it said 1 1/4 i.e. one and a quarter cups which looked more right. But then looking at your other annotations I think the first '1' was actually #1 as in 'Step 1': No it does not have to be Dawn dish soap. Soap is soap. And yeah I'd clarify baking soda vs baking powder too, though I imagine both will do since one contains the other, but more precise is better.

Looks to me like a large size bottle soap. Here that would be a 500ml bottle, but I guess in America it’s some imperial size.
I get the impression native USA citizens wouldn’t know how much liquid is in one of those bottles & can’t easily measure the amount either. Perhaps why they use their “cups” in recipes.
