Ya know surprisingly craftsman has some winners that I found myself sleeping on, while not domestic their quality those being exclusively the v-series and overdrive lines both of which have some phenomenal offerings imho aside from the skips they’re solid man and have similar designs to their SB&D sister company Mac tools (rbrt sockets and wrenches similar to the OD stuff and precision torque stuff similar to v series and no their not identical by any means
Jeff, my first set of sockets and ratchet was SK. Made in Skokie, Illinois. I'd read the Annual Report from time to time and the CEO would rant and rave about foreign competition. He's probably doing double flips in his grave assuming those tools are now made overseas. (I suspect they are.) I haven't followed the company for quite a while, I'm still partial to the SK brand, and I'm still using (50 years) those sockets and ratchets. I think I'll be looking at these wrenches for a while. Thanks for Sharing! 🙃🙂
You're closing in on 10k subscribers, Jeff! I recently picked up some SK metric combination wrenches off of Amazon - 6 to 32mm. They have a good fit and finish as far as I can tell.
Those look and sound very nice. I have some US made SK-Wayne combination wrenches from the 1960's which are excellent. I even found an ad for the metrics in Motor Age Magazine (1963).
I like 72 tooth . Nice to have the thing to change directions , But those break. But not hard to flip the wrench unless you backed a bolt out and can no longer remove the wrench . lol
Not bad… I have a metric ton of vintage s-k sockets and ratchets, I love the old knurled sockets. I’ve been very cautious with the new s-k tools. I’m not sure what to think of them. Thanks.
My rule of thumb is that if a tool says chrome vandium on it, it's trash lol. I'd much rather have the icon or tekton set. There's just too much meat on the ratcheting end.
Seems like others produce a better value product. SK "was" a real winner, but I question them today. If those that have them them great, but I would look at others. Thanks for showing alternatives.
They have sets with the directional switches and 15 degree offset as well. As much as I hate that they're China made they are putting out some pretty decent tools for the price. Especially with todays economy. Curious what your thoughts are on the 216p ratchet you did awhile back? I've been testing one as well and I'll say i didnt like it at first but its grown on me, put a very thin layer of grease on the teeth and its super smooth. I may be slightly biased though because I really like oldschool round head ratchets.
I didnt really care for the 216 but i never really tried to mess around with it!! im glad its working out for you!! thank you for sharing that!! stay tuned, giveaways every other week!!
I agree Taiwan probably COO. Seems lots of ratchet wrench sets from some of the better name brands come from there (I have Wiha and Gedore ratcheting wrench sets from TW).
I had 1 lock up from the start, and i paid top $ for s set that was supposed to be USA made,i received 8 wrenches,USA made,3 CHINA made!!!! they are to big and bulky as well, just my thoughts!!! some people may like them im sure!!
Not a bad looking set of wrenches. For $125 they should work smoothly and have a decent finish. China is well capable of turning out decent products. Unfortunately tool companies who have tools made in China are going to go with lower production specifications to maximize profits. That is what gives made in China tools a bad name.
I won't buy the Chinese made stuff, but I do own quite a bit of the USA made tools. They do still make their USA line of tools. They just moved the factory from Illinois to Pennsylvania. A lot of people think they just sell the Chinese stuff, but that's not true. People just like to repeat what they hear. The new USA made LP90 ratchet they have is one of the best on the market.
I won't touch SK anymore, they used to be a good USA company but that was long ago, the original SK went bankrupt, the name made a come back with USA tools but again problems ensued and now they are just another importer of cheap tools.
They still make their USA line of tools. They just moved the factory from Illinois to Pennsylvania. I have many of them, and they're the same as they used to be.
S-K and Craftsman of the old school days surely are missed

2nd comment. Just watched Eric O at South Main Auto and he's still happily using his USA-made SK X-frame wrenches.
I had 1 lock up from the start, and i paid top $ for s set that was supposed to be USA made,i received 8 wrenches,USA made,3 CHINA made!!!! they are to big and bulky as well, just my thoughts!!! some people may like them im sure!!
@@jefftovani5535 Jeff, I'm sure Eric O bought his years before China screwed them up.

Yes sir pieman!!!
I understand these are the homeowner SK line but it bothers me seeing that chrome vanadium stamp.
Not crazy about that myself!! thanks Tad!!
I won't touch SK anymore, they used to be a good USA company but that was long ago, the original SK went bankrupt, the name made a come back with USA tools but again problems ensued and now they are just another importer of cheap tools.
Thanks for watching,im not happy they went overeseas as well!! just giving people options!!
