    So well explained on artifical VS organic fertilizers. I only use artificial fertilizers on my potted annuals.

    Loved this video!! Thanks for answering my question about my roses!! Do you have a video on fertilizer you use and how often for your roses??💕💕

      Yes, I do. Here it is: ruclips.net/video/m0RsqlFnRQU/видео.html. In my zone (zone 7 coastal CT) I need to feed my roses twice: just before leafing out in spring and after first big bloom.

    Thank you, I am going through many of your videos, and learning so much. I wondered if you have plants you have found that your roses do well with, when planting a mixed border? I give the roses the preference, and do not want them competing, but i do like other flowers and herbs as well.

      I love roses with perennials too, strongly dislike roses in the sea of mulch gardens. Will definitely do a video closer to spring about companion plants. Right now garden is ready to go to sleep. Happy gardening!

    Really appreciated for answering my questions clearly, love love this video, love the topic about synthetic vs organic fertilizer, I'm working on switching my fertilizer into organic granulated, can I use it on 5 gallon pot which I got it from local nursery in the spring ?
    Thanks Olga !

      Glad that my answers were helpful, Wen! I assume you have slow release fertilizer, which is great, because it is designed to release nutrients slowly. Perfect for your plant in the pot.

    The info about baby climbing rose new shoots which I needed ,it's very helpful.
    My climbing rose planted in the spring has couple long shoots , they are 4 ft -- 5ft tall ,when is the best time to train them horizontally ? Thanks Olga !

    • @OlgaCarmody
      @OlgaCarmody  3 года назад

      Glad it was helpful! As for the shoots. Train them right now, while they are flexible. And they will continue growing and you continue directing them where you want them to grow. And if your rose has some really unruly canes which are not trainable in any way, cut them out alltogether, near the beginning of growth. Don't worry, your rose will redirect its energy to create other shoots. And you will have well shaped climber. Hope it helps.

    Thank you so much for these Q&A sessions they are so helpful. I have a question about my LOS, I purchased her as a potted Rose from DA in the spring and so far have had 3 blooms, a bit disappointing. She is very healthy, nice healthy leaves, gets fed fish emulsion/sea weed and Rose tone. I was wondering if there is anything else I can do to promote more blooms. I’m tempted to trim her like you suggested in the video. She is healthy but her stems are thin and leaves are small. Help!

      Hi Cynthia!
      Your rose is a baby and will take another 2-3 years to fully mature. It will stay small if you decide to keep it in the pot. Your rose is healthy and thriving, great! It should be small, next year it will be bigger and the year after that it will reach its maturity. Again, the pot space will restrict roots from growing big and supporting bigger top. I don’t know where you garden, but here in zone 7, North East US, I would do nothing to it. Let it form hips and slowly go into dormancy. The only thing is needed in your situation is patience. Hope it helps. Remember, my roses are “old ladies”, they are in their 8th year.

      @@OlgaCarmody thank you so much!! I’m in Florida zone 9b so our weather is completely different, but you are probably right about it being restricted in a pot. I should probably take her out and plant it in the ground. Fall and Winter is our peak Rose season here so maybe it will be a good time to relocate it. Do you think it will go in shock or should I give it another year?

    • @OlgaCarmody
      @OlgaCarmody  3 года назад +1

      @@cynthiar3407 You can move your rose from pot to ground during most parts of the year. Not when ground is frozen or it is super hot. Just stay on top of watering to give roots chance to reach out into the soil.

    I planted bare root roses from DA last spring. I live in Alabama zone 7b. My roses have not grown very strong. They are small stems not much growth. I use organic fertilizer and have good soil. Does it take a while for them to grow fuller and stronger. Thanks shirley

    • @OlgaCarmody
      @OlgaCarmody  2 года назад +1

      Good that you use organic fertilizer. And don't worry, give your roses time, some varieties are slower than others. My Boscobel didn't put any big growth this season, it is a new rose for me. Meanwhile, Vanessa Bell was a happy first year bloomer. So, time and patience. I know it can be hard in the garden...
