Thank you for this video. I am dialing in my gear now for my April ‘24 start date and have been looking for gloves! I probably won’t see you on the trail so happy hiking 🎉
Enjoy your videos and have learned about some cool gear. Many things didn't exist or were not available on my thru hike in 99! hope to see you on trail. I also like your stickers and merchandise
I don’t know much about anything but I’m wondering if a small carabiner to clip those shoes tightly to ur pack would work better . In the past on my packs stuff swinging around got annoying after a while . Good luck can’t wait to see you hike the AT
started with umbrella ditched at Franklin with so much low tree cover. check the hiker box LOL used on PCT in the desert, AZT worked well, Colorado didn't need it for me too windy on ridge. hope that helps good luck. Tahoe rim trail not needed.>>>
That is one dialed in pack. Holy moly. Great video. Just found you and am looking forward to following. I'm in GA, so maybe we'll run into you out there. Happy Trails.
You may consider the possibility of needing to switch satelite beacons at some point. The company that put out the Defy unit has gone under and continuing service is unknown at the moment. Might be just fine and perhaps somebody will buy the assets and keep things going but just something to be aware of.
Your gear looks dialed in. I start the approach trail in March. I'll be walking in your footsteps, bro. I hope to meet you. Maybe Trail Days :-) I learned the hard way about camping next to a fire. A hot ember popped off and burnt a hole through my tent. Also, the smoke can mess up your sinuses and overall breathing if the wind God's put that smoke on your tent. I try to camp far away from fires. So, when I'm done watching the Backcountry TV, I can escape to my smoke free tent! Well, not entirely smoke free, tbh...Happy trails. Good luck.
chapstick works as moustache wax in a pinch. or get yourself a small tube of aquaphore, it is great to help small cuts and deep chafe to heal and can also work as chapstick and lip caterpillar wax
Hey brother, I just stumbled on to your channel and you caught my attention when I saw the BJJ food bag pic. I’m a fellow BJJ guy too (approx 14 yrs) so you know I had to hit that subscribe button. I wish you the best of luck as you head north!! Safe hiking!.
Brother great video. I have been looking into recovery shoes and you just shared a brand I had not considered. As for the tent, I am using the offset and love it. I think you and your pup will be very comfortable. Thanks for sharing such great info. - Ivan
@@ISuckatHiking yes you are! I’m still waiting for my FlexTail, waiting for my custom enlightened quilt, and training like crazy. At 61 I want to make sure I’m in good shape when I start. You are starting a lot earlier than me, I was hoping to meet you on trail but you will be way ahead of me. I start second week of April. Be safe and stay alert!
The pee bottle is a fantastic idea, i might get one myself. For some reason while hiking often have to pee multiple times per night, and when its cold and raining outside, thats even worse.
New sub from Scotland. Stephan. Trail name summit tae dae. I’m hitting 46 this year and being a bricklayer I don’t shift injuries to well. Last year I barely hiked due to needing recovery time just from work. This ul kit is my favourite as most of your kit is what I’ve stored in my mental toolbox viewing many ul backpackers kit lists. Oh yeah. Keep the moustache it’s definitely a statement. And I need to buy a sticker for my bottle to support your channel. Happy hiking 🥾
Seems you have your gear dialed in. Sure as your knock out the miles you'll do a bit of reorganization, like headlamp readily available in your fanny pack and gas canister transfer valve in your pack with your cook set. Best of luck. We will be following.
Started following your journey today, and backtracked to see your loadout. Curious if you are wearing an Amazfit T-rex watch? If so do you like it? I find mine very accurate and love the extra long battery life. Good luck on the AT, ill be checkin in.
Getting hyped for the hike! I know you just went over everything in the video and have the affiliate links, but did you do a lighterpacks? its easier for me to look at the info as I plan. Thanks!
So you are layering merino tshirt underneath an alpaca or at times another merino hoodie? Is that what I often see you hiking in? And is that jogger pant merino as well?
Cold soaking seems like some sort of false economy to me. Particularly if you’re varying a cook kit. My Toakes 750 with MSR pocket Rocket and Small Gas canister. Cant weigh any more than the water you cart whilst cold soaking for half the day. And I get warm food and can have it in 10 minutes. Loose the cold soak idea. You won’t regret it. Also I got the 20000 power bank and also 2 10000. The two 10s somehow seem to weigh less. If one breaks I have the other.
Question about your Osmo Pocket 3, as I understand that you are concerned about it's non-waterproof state. Did you purchase or consider extended protection for the pocket 3? I was looking and found Osmo P3 on amazon which could have a 50 dollar extended warranty added onto it. While I haven't read the full terms, I thought that this might help me feel better in respect to the danger of breaking the camera. At some point, that is already a tenth of the cost of the product though........ It's just that trail durability of the Osmo P3 is unknown.
I'm considering the warranty, because I think it would allow me to enjoy my hike a bit more (rather than being worried about the camera). That s1 gimbal that I mentioned, was purchased because it was rainproof@@ISuckatHiking
Great video.. Obviously people under 40 don't understand pee bottle... Just be open to sending umbrella home, 3000k miles on the AT and never felt I needed one like I did on PCT. Good luck!😊
Great gear video. I also have the al pacca hoodie. I just sewn a elastic draw string in the hood. Game changer..... Also, may want to color code the pee bottle. Haha
@@ISuckatHiking Don't get me wrong. I think both those tents are incredible. I would be over the moon to have either. My buddy has that tarptent and i borrowed it. I've wanted one ever since.
Ok so I have to comment the Pee bottle, from a man to another man who actually use a pee bootle Please exchange the Cnoc with the flexible hard plast Nalgene instead. Why? 1. The opening is bigger, like dude, if Mr adventure down there is small Ill get it, but having a bigger hole, to pee at night give more confidence, and even tricks you to think its bigger 2. Please dont take the wrong Cnoc bottle and blow it up like you just did with your mouth. 3. The Cnoc is NOT that long lasting. Nalgene hard plastic bottle for the win! appart from that even though I have never hiked the AT, I would drop that Umbrella. Darwin recommend that too.
I know you are on trail now so probably a moot point now but I use the Nalgene 48oz as a pee bottle. I’ve never filled it up through the night but have come closer to doing so more times than I would have guessed I might. If you want to be able to go half sitting up then you need a little head 😂 space or you will risk spilling the contents leaning the bottle a little so you can hit the mark. My observations anyway. Good luck up the trail.
@@DanielOutdoorsthey call it the Nalgene 48 or 32 oz cantene. Yes they spell canteen as I wrote it. One thing I like about it aside from the large opening and volume is once you get a little liquid in it to add a little weight, it stands up very well.
Great video. You look ready to go!! We’re counting down the days to follow you!
Almost time!
