Your hair routine has helped me go 4 days between washes AND I use a blow dry brush to dry. Olaplex 3 before shower once a week, Redken extreme lengths shampoo and hair mask, purology color extend leave in, Redken big blowout cream, and olaplex 7 to oil my ends and my hair has never been healthier or more beautiful. I’ve even ditched my flat iron because I don’t need it anymore.🎉🎉🎉

I would also add that when using a blow dryer brush you start at the roots first. They take longer to dry so hitting them first will make it easier to dry the lengths of the hair evenly without overheating. Then move to the mids, and then the ends, as the ends are more porous and dry faster. This also keeps you from drying already dry areas over and over.

I’ve been getting my hair done professionally since 1997. I’ve watched how the stylist does it for many years. I flip my hair upside down, focusing on the roots. Then I section it and use a round brush. Great results , especially if you use a heat protectant. Olivia Garden or a boar bristle brush are what I’ve found to be the best brushes

    • @RealApplachianMama

Love boar bristle paddle brush to add volume after I use my blow dry brush. I flip my head over, brush underneath all around, then brush the top into my style and bam instant volume and a little bend around my face. I have long layers in the back and face frame in the front. I have fine hair and this lasts my three or four days. If you train your hair to only be washed a few times a week it produces less oil. I grew up in the 70 and washed my hair once a week and did an overnight set on sponge rollers. I had rocking bouncy curls all week. The trick is to not touch your hair.

I've seen the ladies at the gym dry their hair with hand dryers (it's cold air so that might help to dry off the sweat and avoid damaging hair possibly?) and then maybe do dry shampoo? @@jenpad2008 honestly the best thing to do is wash your hair. It’s much worse to leave dirt, salt, sweat on your scalp then top it off with dry shampoo. Sure it is. 1) You must train your scalp to produce less oil by gradually washing less and less. Skip 1 day for a few weeks, then skip 2 days for a few weeks, etc. You can work up to a week like this, if you manage it all well. 2) Use the right products for your hair to get it actually clean at every wash; not getting it clean enough makes it look worse all the time. Need the right shampoo etc for this. He has a whole list of products based on hair type and concern and they work! 3) Use a swim cap to keep your hair dry for swimming. It helps. 4) Comb all the hair back with no part before any workout or swim then re-part afterward. It will look better. 5) Time your sweatiest workouts for the day just before you will wash your hair. If you wash every 3 days, then save the sweatiest workout for the last day. Do the less sweaty workouts on days 1 and 2.

I mean, you can’t use heat everyday.
I workout 6 days a week and I sweat a lot, so I make a high bun (so I don’t loose my curls), and wash my hair two times a week (you can usually train your scalp). If I need it I use dry shampoo.

I know this is kind of niche, but some of us have reasons our styles really aren't going to hold up over night (in my instance I need a CPAP with straps that put dents in my hair). For any number of reasons, our "wash day" style is truly not going to last overnight -- it needs some sort of styling each morning. Would love advice on getting bumps and waves out in the morning, if it's too soon to re-use heat. I saw the morning routine video, but I just need more than dry shampoo and oil to get my hair back up to snuff before work!

Girl, put your hair up in hair rods at night at the top of your head - like the girl Yesenia who went viral doing it on a flight. I’ve done it for a 15 months and it’s actually easy and does a really good job curling my hair overnight and keeping it out of my way when I sleep. Try it :)

    • @LiterallyJustAnActualPotato
      @LiterallyJustAnActualPotato 6 месяцев назад +2

I understand, my husband is in his 30’s but he needs a CPAP machine. Nothing is more important than your heart, your health, and quality sleep! You may have to do heat-less hair styles. Many people with waves or frizz find out that they actually have curls when they discover the curly girl method. My curls have been pretty obvious since I was born lmao. It doesn’t matter how crazy my hair gets at night, I just spray some water mixed with leave in conditioner in it in the morning and it’s like brand new. Or you can find an up-do (bun or ponytail or half up half down) that you like. Or maybe you could twist your hair into a smooth bun wayyy on top of your head and cover it with a satin bonnet. If it’s way ontop of your head, then the CPAP straps are not pressing against the top layer of your hair and creating a line/bump. If you can do that, then you could probably find a method that also gives you an “overnight blowout” that only needs to be touched up with some oil and held with some hair spray. I hope any of these ideas help.

Hi Chris, after following your advice for shampoo and styling products, I find that I can go 4 or 5 days in between washings. Thank you for all the great info. As for blow dry brushes, I use one when I travel. My shoulder length, fine hair sometimes gets kinked overnight despite tying it up and using a satin pillowcase. I find that using the cool setting really helps get the kink out and refresh the style without heat. I think this may only work for fine hair. I don’t have to do this all the time, just every once in a while. Also, I find that using the cool setting as the very last step in drying each section, really seals the style. Thanks again for all the great advice videos.

@@Esandeech2 not really, his advice on not washing your hair for several days is completely wrong. I used to do that and got such a bad dandruff that I had to go to the dermatologist. She told me that how often you should wash your hair will depend heavily on your scalp, type and amount of product you use as well as your lifestyle ( i work in the hospital and spend all day wearing surgical cap and also work out regularly). When I was not washing my hair every other day not only I had dandruff but my scalp was itchy and my hair was thinning. all that stopped when I started using products that are for my hair type and started washing my hair every other day. The problem is just because the product is good in general that does not mean it if for you. so someone with oily scalp would be better off going to see dermatologist because the cause of oily scalp might not be bad hair routine or specific product they use, but something else.

I emailed Chris about this a year ago because I swim every day. I have fine frizzy-curly hair as well. I recently went to red hair after three decades of bleaching and blonde (and perms 🤮)
I was told to spray mids to ends (ends, especially) with leave in conditioner and then put on my cap.
Chris said after swimming to rinse my hair in the shower and to not shampoo, just put conditioner in. After this, use leave in conditioner, curl cream, and oil.
I do not blow dry my hair. I am terrified to put heat on it!
I did not ask him specifically about heat.
I suggest each of you email him. If enough people ask, he will most likely do a video.
I was shocked he got back to me!

With my fine hair, once I sleep on it one night, it’s wavy and frizzy the next morning no matter what I do. I am following your hair washing system and using the products you recommended. I even tried to sleep with my hair in a side braid once and they just made it tightly wavy and frizzy. I don’t have long heavy hair - mine is light and fine, so right now I just let it be whatever it wants to be on my non wash days, maybe pinning the sides up or I just put it up in a claw clip. I wish my style from the first day lasted as you say it will, but it doesn’t.

i recently got one of these, and it turns out i was already instinctively using the goldilocks method! another perk i find of using this is that when you grab your hair, you can stay aware of how hot your hair is getting. when it got too hot, i would use the cool setting so that my hair didn't stay at that extreme heat. i have long, colored hair and i hope to keep growing my hair longer so im very aware and afraid of heat damage, so it took me a long time to even start using a blow dryer. using a leave in conditioner spray and heat protectant spray beforehand gave me the confidence to finally use a hair brush dryer and my hair feels and looks so much nicer than just air drying.
