Aj Sik Mitraan Di Vadhayri Ay
The Lament of Separation
This well known poem expressing grief and sorrow at being separated from the beloved (peace be upon him) was written by the Great Gnostic of Golra Sharif, Peer Mehr 'Ali Shah Sahib, may Allah shower His mercy upon him. He saw the Prophet, peace be upon him, in a dream during a journey from Makkah Al-Mukarramah to Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah, after completing the rites of Hajj. He was so moved by the beauty of the Prophet, peace be upon him, that he penned his feelings of grief at the separation in this timeless poem which has become synonymous with high standard Punjabi naat.
