If you read the novelization of BBS, Vanitas’s story is really sad. He is in constant pain, and I feel bad for him.

Yes, it is non canon, none of the novels are canon.
But that doesn’t stop them from adding to the story. Every time you read one of the books, you learn something new about the characters. Yes, the novels closely follow the games, and they bridge off at certain parts. But that doesn’t stop them from being enjoyable or from mattering less; because it closely works with the characters, and shows their hidden depth. That’s what makes it worth it.
Personally I hope that edgy boy comes back. He’s my absolute favorite villain in the series, even before I knew he was a dark Sora.

This charactervfile gave me more insight into Vanitas' character than any of his scenes in the games ever did. Kudos to whoever wrote this file. It's nice to finally get some satisfying answers about this guy.
I feel that he is a dark being who got trapped in ventus somehow in union cross. And maybe ventus losses his memory of this which leads to the part where xehanort releases vanitas.
and perhaps xehanort ended up merging darkness with ventus' own, inherent darkness in the process. so, vanitas is and isn't ventus.

He may be a being of pure darkness, doesn't mean he can't feel any positive emotions. Not just negative emotions he feels. He has a heart and he have his own thoughts, feelings,and own goals he wants to do. Anyway, awesome video of Vanitas character file. He will definitely return. His story is far from over.
MY FAVE KH VILLAIN & FAVE CHARACTER AFTER SORA & ROXAS ! I really REALLY hope we see more of him in future KH games. I love his character. We were introduced to him as ven’s darkside but it now seems as if he’s his own person.His battle quotes are savage too. “ Once again you couldnt save him” (He say that when he kills aqua&ven) & “Lets not disappoint our masters”. I like his keyblade alot. The design & details in it. I can keep going but yall get the point.
Man, that was heavy. I feel bad for Vanitas, a being constantly encased within his own sorrow and hatred. On a lighter note, that was some nice reading there by our guest! Jesus Christ be with you friends.😊
I've said this before, but again, Vanitas's motivation to be destroyed with everything else greatly reminds me of the goals of the demon race in Slayers, as Hellmaster Phibrizzo stated them.

I think “Darkness”(character) is the root of Vanitas. In my theory, Vanitas is a being created from the character of Darkness in UX merging with Ventus’s heart. The reason being that Ventus was so pure, that over time, Darkness eventually molded into the being known as Vanitas within Ventus. I’m thinking Darkness was defeated but took root within Ventus’s heart, taking all of Ventus’s darkness and creating a vessel of negative emotion that existed within him. Or at least, Darkness forced his way into Ventus’s heart. Similar to how Terranort was born. Xehanort extracted that Darkness which was already it’s own being within Ventus, which left Ventus despondent like Terranort in Radiant Garden. But unlike Terranort, since Vanitas was already a being within Ventus, they look nothing a like. Why he looks like Sora is still a mystery.
Ooff this will sound crazy and in the realm of fan fiction but what if Darkness Vanitas is Sora's Dad! O _ O; maybe thas another reason why he looks like Sora,aside from the thing that Ven was in Sora thing.
I have also an idea that's been driving me crazy and I need to share it: what if Vanitas is the dark side of the MoM? And at the same time: what if Sora is the MoM?! That would explain why Vanitas has a keyblade with the gazing eye (as to the MoM). And also that could explain young Xehanort's reaction when the MoM "told" his name.

@@klee483 You aren't wrong. But what if Vanitas and MoM are the same person, but in two halves? Also, why is it we never had ANYTHING about soras dad? At least we have soras mom's voice.
I agree with your theory. But the reason Vanitas and Sora look alike has been explained before. Vanitas was originally born faceless, but when Ventus' heart was healed by Sora, that formed a link with Vanitas and gave him his face.
I think he'll be back. I found some voice lines form Vanitas in a sound fx file and he has some party member quotes. Which is something that's missing from the other seekers of darkness.

This is an excerpt published by Square Enix, not Prodigy, so he can only give his thought based on what Square gives the public. If Square doesn't talk about the gazing eye as it relates to Vanitas, then all we can do is speculate on the subject.
I do believe Vanitas will come back but as Darkness his true from khux. He will return in the near future and in lost master saga, he will. That's my opinion and thoughts. He may be not ventus original darkness at all. I love Vanitas, he's just incredible and fantastic character that nomura ever made.

I'm surprised you didn't call attention to the irony of saying, *word for word* , the very same lines Ventus shot back at him just before his end.
I think that right there is pretty telling that he and Ventus are pretty much the same 'being', especially when you consider the lines in Re:Mind referencing how Ventus is 'too pure'.

I don't think that he and Ventus are the same being. Remind has shown the opposite. In the japanese dialogue Vanitas says to Ventus "I and you are originally different beings" and in english he indicates it with "We are not the same as you think" Of course the two have a connection but they are not the same being and yes Ven must have a few more secrets and Vanitas too. So maybe they are the same now but not always.

It's vague, but them 'not being the ssme' might not quite mean inherently separate from the start.
My point is is that they certainly do have a very interesting connection.

Maybe they're 'reflections'.
Being 'originally different beings' doesn't necessarily mean that they might not just be reflections of the same 'existence'.
Possibly in a similar way to Yozora and Sora.
I guess we'll see.
KH has a way of being convoluted af fuck on the nature of 'existence' seeing as Vanitas likened himsrlf to Sora in the ssme way he likened himstlf to Ventus.
I meab, look at Xion and Roxas.
Both of those 2 'are Sora'... but 'not Sora'.
Roxas was arguably to Sora what Vanitas was to Ventus seeing as he technically was his own being too... forged from the fragments and reflections of a still sleeping Ven.
But, all of that is speculative sonce Vanitas doesn't even know what the hell he he is.
I just find it striking that he'd echo, verbatim' the same exact lines Ventus would say long before he'd say them.
It speaks to just not so different they actually are.

I think it was more that he simply cane to wholly accept what he was and was at peace with it, whatever the outcome.
He basically said, 'fuck it. I am what I am. Light, darkness. I'm just me... and you all can eat shit.'.
I felt it was less about hating everything at the end and simply him reaching a different conclusion to Roxas when he said those words.
That smile at the end said it all.
There was no real hate in his final moments.

No I get what you mean, imo he sound Good but that’s when he isn’t forcing it with being menacing, like how kh3 Vanitas voice actor tried to sound too menacing like a villain, but felt forced and not that Good, in bbs he was talking normally without forcing it which why he sounded better there, it in the end i just want to say that maybe this guy has a potential.
Being a part of Kingdom Hearts at all would be a dream come true for me, regardless of what I would be working on.

I feel like Vanitas and Ventus are the same being but once seperated I feel like thats when they became seperate beings. I do not think vanitas was an original a seperate entity known as darkness from UX. I believe vanitas is what we are told his is which is the personification of ventus' darkness and dark emotions that may stem from events from UX but otherwise dont relate to his actions in UX. Numerous events from bbs to kh3 to even remind have shown that Vanitas and Ven are one in the same although i feel due to sora ventus no longer needs vanitas to bee whole again. Which probably cut vanitas off from being 100% ven. So while theyre the same they no longer are the same because ventus no longer needs vanitas. It would make alot of sense especially his explanation on why he looks like sora not ven sora literally replaced the part of ven's heart that vanitas came from with his light therefore vanitas' appearnace now reflect the changed portion of ventus' heart. Thats how i look at it anyways i feel vanitas saying hes ven but also not ven is just eluding to his part of vens heart being replaced by sora's light and remind would reconfirm this if the being that spoke to sora was infact the fragment of vanitas that still remained inside ven he's too pure would probably means that ventus's heart being pure light is too pure for vanitas to be apart one with him. Also i feel his disappearance at the end of kh3 isnt him remerging with ventus and just him returning to the point in time where he lost to ventus and faded away with just a small fragment of him staying with ven which we probably seen in remind talking to sora. Regardless i feel ventus' heart is too pure light to ever merge with vanitas completely again

Before even in Union X he never had someone to call a friend as he said so... he was always alone and probably he hated himself for it also the fact that he thinks he is weak.
And remember... Ventus don't remember his past self before BBS. So... Vanitas knows his past.

A nobody is the shell of a human once it has lost its heart. Ventus still had a part of his heart once him and vanitas were separated and therefore could not create a nobody.
A heartless can be created in 2 different ways. A heart can either be separated completely from the body (creating a heartless) or a heart can be overpowered by the darkness within it (also creating a heartless).
Since both ventus and vanitas both have what I would dub as "fractured hearts", they do not fall into either of these categories. Therefore, making way for a third category classified as Unversed.
Theoretically speaking both ventus AND vanitas have fractured hearts at this point. Which might lead you to wonder "if they both have fractured hearts, then shouldnt they both be classified as unversed?" The short answer would be "no". Heres my reasoning:
While ventus and vanitas both do have fractured hearts, ventus' heart still resided in his own physical body. Which left him still a human on the brink of death. (until Sora "mended" his heart as seen in Birth By Sleep.) This saved him from death and allowed him to carry on as a normal human being.)
Vanitas, on the other hand, existed as nothing other than a fractured heart. He had no physical body of his own. (Until one manifested for him after sora stepped in and saved Ventus. This is also why he looks like sora.) And this may be the defining factor that puts Vanitas in the "Unversed" category, unlike Ventus
Theres alot we still dont know about both Vanitas and the Unversed. They are a special case, and cant seem to exist without very certain circumstances.
Kingdom hearts can be very hard to understand and explain. Especially since they like to personify metaphors based on the heart. Example being "heartless" "nobodies" and "fractured/broken hearts"(Unversed). Hopefully this helped a little. I'm sure we will understand more about the unversed as the story progresses.
I think that darkness was probably being manipulated by MoM and found out some time later.

vanitas, take some antidepressants, grow up, and get laid or something. ..... I can't speak from experience, but I hear it's good.
you may have appealed to teenage me, but not to 20s me. ventus was able to feel both positive and negative emotions in bbs, so you should be able to do the same. even kairi, a PoH, has been sad and worried. ventus became suicidal and kairi put herself into a coma for sora's sake. you aren't perpetually sad and angry because you are darkness. you're perpetually sad and angry because you refuse to grow and adapt, to shift your perspective as things change. you refuse to free yourself. you're stuck in your emo phase and it isn't healthy for anyone.

Yes, i dont think he had ever seen sora unlike terra and aqua, through all this time he knew about him and all his light and stuff so when he finally saw him face to face and to see vanitas that was the "sora? YOUR sora!?" He would definitely be surprised
