Beautiful IS. Just sold my 535whp 92 galant vr4 and picked up a stock 05 is. Going to build it this summer. I'm just in Salt Lake. Slip that clutch more off the line. Less likely to smoke the tire and won't bog down so bad. You land a great launch and I bet your get 9's or very low 10's.
Yeah it would have been nice to have a few more runs that day to get things dialed in, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. Starting from scratch with tire pressures, damper settings, and launch RPM/boost was tricky but overall I'm pretty satisfied with how things went. These multi-disk carbon clutches can be tricky to slip as well. A slipper valve would probably be a good investment if I was planning to hit the track more often. Congrats on the IS acquisition and best of luck with the build!
Thanks! Yeah it broke into the 10s without much fuss. There's definitely plenty of room for improvement with a better 60ft and more boost on the short track too. 👍
@@twojay Hoping to get my ISF into the very low 12s in June to July as that is our winter here (Brisbane, Australia) I had a mint IS200 a while back :) ruclips.net/video/byFOnWgNCGc/видео.html
@@SouthernCrossMotors Man you aren't kidding, that thing looks like an absolutely cherry! I probably wouldn't be too upset about upgrading to an ISF though. Good luck getting it into the low 12s next year!
Awesome seeing this beast @ the track. I know you're just dialing it in but what are your thoughts on how it performed... I must say she looks damn good out there.💯🏁🏁🏁🔥👍😎
Thank you! I was super pleased with how the day went. The car ran great and I didn't have to touch any tools besides the laptop and tire pressure gauge all day. I can't wait to see what it'll do when I knock a couple tenths off that 60ft and hit it with a little more boost on the short track. It's always a good track day when you can drive it back on the trailer under its own power! 😅
Awesome to see you again, Two Jay. Was wondering if you kept your old ABS connector when you deleted the ABS system? My connector is cracking into pieces and I can't source a new replacement. Your car looks, sounds and performs great!
Hey thanks! I think I still have that connector somewhere but if I remember correctly the latching mechanism was broken on mine and I had to use a zip-tie to keep it secured. I'll dig around and see if I can find it though.
@@GroovesAndLands I think you're exactly right unfortunately. Being confined to the hot engine bay for 20+ years sure takes a toll on a lot of the connectors.
Awesome times man!!! So jelly!! I was wondering if you were still 3.58 rear gear and stock diff housing/axles with all that when I watched. I see thats a no and you've been busy... 😁 how you like the 8.8?!
Thanks! Hopefully I can make some more progress on the short track next time out. I have had a few quirks along the way but overall the 8.8" kit has been solid.
@@twojay for sure, looks like it would benefit a ton from a clutch switch and utilizing launch control/NLTS. Either way a 144 trap street car is amazing. Every time I tell myself I'll be okay with whatever power goal I set, you up yours, do a vid and I'm like okay we need more 🤣
@@batdad187 Yeah there are definitely a few things I could do to help get it down the track a little quicker. I suppose 144 isn't too shabby but I think there's a little left on the table there as well. Sounds like you have a fun build in the works!
Power is dependent on boost so it varies in each gear. I uploaded a dyno video pretty recently if you want to check that out. Boost by gear is a great feature.
There's definitely work to be done on the short track but I'm very pleased with how things went for it being basically the first time at the track. Next time I'll toss you the keys and you'll have to show me how it's done!
@@twojay Thanks. Did you have to clearance the caliper or plug and play? Trying to get a decent setup for mine....takes a lot to hook on 275 street tires lol
@@themechanic_Justin Plug and play for me, but it depends on the wheel. Spoke profile, pad height, lots of factors when it comes to wheels. My street setup (275 R888R) does pretty well on the street with a moderate boost-by-gear strategy.
Does the tomei baffle kit bolt right up to the stock Lexus oil pan or do I need to run a different lower pan and pickup? Saw you were running it and was thinking about doing the same.
It works with the factory pan and pickup. They offer several different options depending on which oil pan configuration is being used. If I remember correctly, the IS300 (front sump) requires "Type F1".

Hi odd question, If you have Brian Crower camshafts do you know if the EXHAUST shaft has a machining port in the front were the bolt threads in to hold the cam gear on. Mine is leaking out of the bolt only to the front of the CG. So weird no leaks from any new oem seal and not a oil charged gear. I'm going back in hope for advice if you saw a machine port when installing. Maybe I overlooked sence it/stock camshaft does not have a port sence it has no oil charge/VVT-I. IDK it's upsetting me. Any advice/past experience I would greatly appreciate. So I don't take everything apart again I'm thinks pull the bolt out and load it with RTV. ??? Sorry to bother you. Thank you
Hey there. I think that's actually a fairly common issue because the threads on the front of the camshaft (for the cam gear) can be exposed to pressurized oil. There should be a pressed in plug (looks like a little freeze plug) down at the bottom end of the threads but even that doesn't always prevent oil from getting to the threads. I always apply some high temperature thread sealant to the threads of the bolt before installing the exhaust cam gear. I'm talking about white thread sealant, not thread locker or RTV (see Permatex 59214 or Loctite 565). I would also make sure that the cam gear bolt is not bottoming out inside the camshaft as that could be causing issues as well depending on your gear/bolt configuration. Hope that helps, good luck!
