Definitely some mixed feelings on this one ... after the success of The Last of Us & One Piece what did y'all think about the premiere of this live action adaptation?!?!
So far I’ve only watched the first episode and plan to finish the rest but I must say I have mixed feelings as well. 1. I’m not a purist whatsoever but I don’t understand why they had to change so much already. 2. I wasn’t a fan of the casting beforehand but still went in open minded. So far imo they don’t feel/act like their characters. Surprisingly the characters I had doubts about the most( Zuko & Sokka) I actually enjoyed the most and feel they are more similar to their characters then the others.
Feels like they're all doing a cold read for the 1st time. They have an extremely talented cast. Even a veteran like Paul Sun-Hyung Lee for Iroh sound ridiculous because of the unnatural expositional dialogue. They need to let the kids work with scenes longer to adequately process the heavy emotions and communicate it back to us in a convincing manner. Have some acting coaches on set. Show don't explain everything to death. Just take longer. It'll pay for itself in the long run. It feels rushed
I've watched all of it already. As a fan of the orginal, Ep1 is dope. It does a fine job adapting elements of the material and reframing some info that we get later in the series into a more linear format. It is way darker, like the cold open and then intro in Aang's time are heavy but enlightening. Things that were only implied in a kids show are shown and it is was cool to see. Like Sozen in full villain mode with firebanders bbq'ing monks is what we knew happened but they show it. Hella sad. Dug the casting and performances overall. For a bunch of kids who have never been in a major role they did well. I was surprised how well the actor for Sokka did I was sure he was gonna be lame but his delivery was decent, Sokka is one of the hardest character to translate because he is just an unserious character in the cartoon. I think the effects are fine for a streaming show of this scale and scope. They aren't throwing feature film level money at every episode. Binge dropped streaming format is hella different from when this was airing in 30m segments, as a kids show, nearly 20 years ago, over the course of a full TV season. It can't be as hammy as a cartoon in live action, and lots of the fan favorite bits of stuff from the OG wouldn't land the same in live action vs. animation. Personally, I understand their intent in those changes so it doesn't bother me. I think it's a good foundation going forward for the show as a whole. I just hope they kind of slow down for season 2 since they set up the their version of the world now and the actors seem to be getting more comfortable with their characters. Some folks are gonna hate it because they are leaning so heavy on their nostalgia that they won't allow themselves to enjoy it. I feel bad for them. There a few bits in the middle episodes that feel shoehorned for fan service and don't hit the way they wanted but I don't mind because those few moments are easy to ignore. I didn't want a frame by frame live action remake, I already have the original show for that, I wanted to see a different take and they did that. This is a fine hold over for me until the Avatar Studios thing from the original creators comes out. I'm sure fans will find a way to hate on that too, the same way many did on Korra at first.
I hope you watch the original, after this one. Live action is really different in terms of storytelling and many fans have mixed feelings. But if it makes you intrested in a cartoon than I am all for it.
Yeah, I think this was fine as an adaptation with the scope that had for it. It is way better than that movie adaptation. Nothing will match the original but this was fun. It is weird to watch folks who don't seem to have seen the original or know the tone of the source material. I was wondering what someone that hasn't seen the original would react and I guess I see it now. This isn't Blue Eye Samurai or Arcane, and it feels like they were expecting something closer in tone to that.
@@Jill-cn1vt I enjoyed One Piece and I watched 500 episodes of the anime prior to the live action. I think Avatar is more managable to get through, only having 61 episodes rather than a 1000. Plus liveaction missed in a lot of crucial moments, and cartoon is just so well done that it is impossible to come close.
I absolutely adored watching y'all react in awe and wonder to this amazing story. As a diehard fan of the animation, I think the live action captures the spirit of the original work. I hope you'll be inspired to watch the animation!
Yeah funny how acturate martial arts in the show are, and how hard it is seemingly to recreate in the liveaction. At least its not a two minute sequence to make one move like in 2010 atrocity.
0:27 avatar the last ... WHAT? Even Shruti looked over to check if you were ok Also - highly recommend watching the cartoon version, as this netflix stuff is like a 5/10 adaptation of it. There's also Legend of Korra you can watch right after Aang's stuff.
Just like the One Piece live action, this is good for what it is, but can't be compared to the original. You should definitely watch the original Last Airbender after this, One Piece too, but that's understandable if you don't lol.
You guys should really consider watching the original cartoon, it's targeted towards children but the writing and themes are very well written. Y'all would absolutely love it
I really hope that you guys watch the original one first bc I’d love to hear your first thoughts on the actual story before y’all get to the Netflix version. I wanna hear the first time theories
Would love to see you watch the original as well as the one piece anime. There's a lot that doesn't translate when it comes to live action, and it could be fun to conpare the two

it felt like they was treating me like a little kid that couldn't understand anything

Y’all NEED to watch the original no questions asked it’s a masterpiece and I’m sure everyone whose watched it will agree with me

4:48 "Big white long dog" 😂😂 his name is Falcor but thanks for giving me a new nickame for my junk.
WAYYYYY better than the movie. Not as amazing as the animated show but they're trying and so far its an acceptable effort in my opinion

this is my 3d time rewatching this, can't wait for your reaction of episode 2 🙏
28:25 They dont move they're hands that much even in the animated show 😅

this live action is pretty good, and accurate

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw my mom watching Avatar. And she enjoyed it! I have more mixed feelings about it.
