  • I have a favorite yoga mat. So, I put together a side-by-side review of two of the best yoga mats in 2020. The Manduka mat has been around for a while, and recently the Liforme mat has come into the arena. I didn't even know about the Liforme until one of my students in teacher training showed up with one for class. It was love 💙 at first sight.
    Don't waste your time looking at lists of best yoga mats...I give you the top 2. Pick one and don't look back. You can't put a price tag on satisfaction in your daily yoga practice.

    The Liforme mat is amazing, perfect for sweaty vinyasa as it stays grippy when when wet, the manduka is not made for ashtanga vinyasa and is a slippy mat even after the 3 rounds of salt/sun treatment and 9 months wearing in :(

    • @RebeccaCohenYoga
      @RebeccaCohenYoga  3 года назад +2

      Agreed. 100%. I think it's just the material of the Manduka versus the rubber.

    I have been fascinated by this alignment help on the mat especially being an Iyengar disciple plus a statistician which makes me obsessed by numbers and detail and precision! You have definitely helped decision-making! :) And I am tiny too just 152cms/approx. 5'2" but not a wee bit strong like you. I wish I get those abs and arms like yours. :))) Best to you! I wish I had seen this video before. I have the manduka since almost two years.

      I'm definitely a type A...and like the alignment markers. When I practice...the mat must line up with the boards in the wood floor or I can't. Just cannot 😂. Join me LIVE on Insight Timer urlgeni.us/insightRCY to get those Rebecca arms...it's vinyasa...but I am a secret Iyengar junkie and we do long holds. And truth be told...I'm ready to do a follow up to this video. The Liforme has not held up very well. But then again, any natural mat with a smooth surface like that will degrade over time. Maybe Manduka will jump on the bandwagon and come out with a mat with alignment indicators!

    THIS IS EXACTLY the review I’ve needed! I have the Manduka and am contemplating getting a Lifeorme so I’ve really wanted to know if it’ll be worth it.

    • @RebeccaCohenYoga

      Super glad you found it useful! I know what you mean...it's really hard to buy a good yoga mat. I've been disappointed many times. lol. I wasn't sure I'd like the alignment indicators so I got the 'Evolve' instead of the Original..it has fewer markings on the mat.

  • @angebee6198
    @angebee6198 3 года назад +2

    Thanks so much so the review. Really well done. I'm contemplating between these 2 mats right now. Does the Lifeform have a good soft cushion feel to it? to use on hard floors?

    • @RebeccaCohenYoga
      @RebeccaCohenYoga  3 года назад +4

      Soft cushion isn’t good for most styles of yoga. It’s harder to balance in the standing poses. Instead, look for density and quality. Liforme is enough for me and my bony back. If you need extra cushion for your knees or something, I would suggest folding the side over to make it double thickness or using a blanket for extra padding.

    I had a student that always used the underside of their Liforme mat in class... drove my OCD crazy 🤪
    Good reviews of two of my favorite mats. You should do a review of the Jade Harmony mat. Another one of my favorites that I see people using a lot.
    Also, the Manduka is a closed-cell rubber, so you know it’s clean when you wipe it down. No bacteria from your sweaty asana sessions growing on that thing.

    • @RebeccaCohenYoga
      @RebeccaCohenYoga  3 года назад +1

      Jade Harmony may was my mat of choice for a decade! ...until I found the Liforme 😍. Manduka - yes it is also closed cell and cleans well...but it just feels spongy to me.

    • @seechangenyc280
      @seechangenyc280 3 года назад

      TY! Jade Harmony is my mat of choice. Open cell. Three parts water/one part vinegar works like a charm to clean it. No other mat matches the grippiness. Yes, it does break down quicker but for stability and sweaty hands, perfect. Some might find it short/narrow but in other colors, beyond black or navy, there are longer options. The Manduka Pro, though I wanted to love it, was like a skating rink (even after many salt scrubs). I have no desire to use a towel on top. I have wanted to try the Lifeforme and B Mat. There’s a new Manduka Grp Adapt which sounds interesting. Nah. Not ready to make the switch (Note: I practice Hatha and Vinyasa).

    • @RebeccaCohenYoga
      @RebeccaCohenYoga  3 года назад +1

      @@seechangenyc280 I totally agree with you. I just reviewed the Jade Harmony vs. the Manduka eKo...a more of an apples to apples comparison. Jade Harmony IMO is the grippiest. Totally agree...Manduka Pro is a skating rink for sweaty practices, the Manduka eKo is pretty close in comparison to the Jade. I still like the Jade better out of those two.

    • @seechangenyc280
      @seechangenyc280 3 года назад +1

      @@RebeccaCohenYoga Ah, I thought that might be the case with the eKo, but Jade seemed to be the winner of that match too. Will check out your review. I wish someone would review the B Mat (open cell, closest to Jade Harmony, me think). Thank so much for speedy response.

      I don’t disagree. The Manduka Pro I have I actually bought second hand to stock my studio so it was already broken in. It’s the only yoga mat I would ever buy used. I will say that I have been using a Lululemon mat since January and it is very grippy. Might be my next mat review.

    Have you tried the alo mat? And what about a cork yoga mat? Those seem intriguing. I have not used one but I am curious to try. Investing in my first serious yoga mat. I'm inclined to go with liforme but wonder if you have any thoughts/experience with a cork mat; like the co. Scoria looks nice. Thank you ☺️

    • @RebeccaCohenYoga
      @RebeccaCohenYoga  3 года назад +1

      I am ordering a cork mat today to try it out. I don't see how cork would be anti-slip, unless your hands and feet are sweaty. My hands and feet stopped sweating in yoga a long time ago...sooo, I'm not sure about it.

    • @RebeccaCohenYoga
      @RebeccaCohenYoga  3 года назад +1

      And I think the Alo mat is the same as the Liforme. Just different branding.

    • @photoggsm
      @photoggsm 2 года назад

      @@RebeccaCohenYoga Loved the video! Has the infatuation died down : )? Are you STILL leaning towards Liforme? My ONE BIG HESITATION is the initial slipperiness. Some have said the few months it takes to break in is no big deal for a mat that lasts FOREVER, whereas the Liforme starts out grippy but only lasts a few years. Thoughts?

    • @RebeccaCohenYoga
      @RebeccaCohenYoga  2 года назад +2

      @@photoggsm well…yes and no. I do love a broken in Manduka pro. But the break in period is annoying I think. The Lifeforme has lost its initial grippiness but comes back when I give it a good cleaning. Also you can wet it with water in a spray bottle to bring back some grip. I am torn TBH because I love the smooth surface of the Liforme but the Manduka is a solid choose that will never break down. I’m thinking about doing a 1-year follow up video.

    • @photoggsm

      @@RebeccaCohenYoga I currently own a Manduka Eko. It was orphaned at my former studio and I purchased it from them, already broken in. I JUST LOVED IT! but it has lived a good life and now it shiny and slippery and difficult to practice on. I'm definitely leaning to a new Manduka. The breaking in has me apprehensive as people have posted that they were never able to get them grippy.

      Ya know, I was thinking that the downside of the Manduka is that they have a lifetime guarantee...that's their claim on eco-friendly...less for the landfills. However, that means if you get sick of it...you're stuck with it until you die. 😂
