You should have done this video 10 years ago when I was watching your videos. I did the IELTS and passed with a high score. Unfortunately, after 9 years living in Canada, I couldn't afford to buy a house, I work in a low paid job that doesn't use my skills (I did a PhD back home). Now, I am under cancer treatment and maybe this developed because of all the stress of immigration, different food and environment. I was a healthy person for 30 years in Brazil 😢. Today, I wouldn't move to Canada. Before the Russian war, the food was not as expensive as it is now. I can't even move because of my treatment and my son's treatment as he was born with a congenital difference.

I moved here 6 years ago with my family and one of the hardest questions I get is "Why" I have come to Canada. My life was pretty decent back home, despite Brazil's corruption and social violence. Truly, we all want a better life - and even to become wealthy if possible. The country is, in fact, quite expensive, and housing is virtually unaffordable if your income is not way above the national average. However, I think it is a mistake to restrict to money our definition of success. The whole experience is enriching and we should face it as a spiritual journey with a deeper meaning. There is no perfect place in the world, but rather what place's virtues and problems we are willing to embrace. And do it with open hearts.

I think the mistake that many people make is coming to Canada without a plan or a clear vision. Obviously if you move to the three most expensive cities in Canada you are going to spend a lot of money. Look for cheaper cities to start with.
If you come without your degree validated you will not be able to work in your field. The best advice is to validate your degree before coming to Canada. If you see that the validation process is very difficult. Apply to pursue a master's or a PhD at the University, but apply for scholarships. Never enter Colleges.
I have been living in Canada for 10 years, I studied a master's and a PhD in Saskatchewan, I completed both programs with scholarships. Then I got a job that pays me +110k, I was able to buy a new house in Saskatchewan for 500k.

Look for cities with populations of less than 1 million people, and preferably not in the central part of the country. I came to Canada two years ago, and my family chose the city of Quebec to live in. This year, we bought our first home. I'm living in Canada now for almost 3 years and I can confirm what you are saying is true. It has become harder for anyone in Canada to make a living, specially to immigrants. It's not as convenient as before to immigrate here,, but everyone's situation is totally different and unique. So for some people may still be worth it to move to Canada from a country that is doing much worse. I'm thankful for the opportunity that Canada gave me and I try to follow the rules always and be a good citizen. I hope things can get better in the future and live in this country for many more years.

It's amazing to listen your advices. The headstart and the disadvantages on moving to Canada, currently I live in Spain going on 24 years. Despite having a strong command of the local language is not easy to be foreigner, talking about the cost of living is true that as much as you get as much you spend. Now the big problem in western countries is the shortage of house. Renting a flat in bigger cities is becoming unaffordable for many people, even for local most of them can't live by themselves due to this problem, so I can say to everyone who want to move elsewhere that think twice before to do it. Unless you are living in a country who is being devastating for several reasons. Thanks a lot for your advices and god bless you

Dear Emma, thank you so much for this video. I have been watching your videos for 4 years and I like them. You help me study English. I'm from Kyiv, Ukraine and all my life I lived there. The very first time when I watched some of your videos, I couldn't imagine that such a terrible and bloody war would occur in my country and I would be forced to leave Ukraine. By chance or perhaps by the behest of fate, I moved to Canada. I like this country and am grateful for the opportunity to be here. At the moment, I'm living near Toronto, and I think that Canada has a very good potential to become one of the most successful countries in the world.

What you shared in this video is 💯 percent! I’d also like to add that we should be grateful for the positive stuff, and be the change agent for the negative stuff. Starting from learning about Canadian history, our legislation, learning and acquiring what it takes to land the job we want to do, learning how to vote to have better government, being involved, being there for our community. I think communities are weak in many parts and this is harmful to our younger generations. But we can do better.

I still think Canada is a good place to raise a family. The wilderness and circumstances give you a good sense of the relationship between humans and nature. Although I left Canada for quite a long time, I still remember the warm summer day and freezing cold winter. It is the place where you can have four seasons and squirrels on your porch all the time.

Great point there Emma, less crimes than in other countries, and that sense of security overall is ok. As an immigrant, We're all aware of the housing crisis, and the lack of real work from the government to solve real issues (unfortunately that's how politicians work everywhere) and professionally speaking Language, professional experience and revalidation for some specific areas/fields would be required.

I hope more people can see this video before coming to Canada. When I applied for a college before I immigrated here, it was a career college, as you mentioned in the video. No one told me to be careful, there are some scam colleges here, and the representative was very persuasive. I ended up getting my study visa refused, the representative said that was my fault and asked for more money. Please let more people know about it and be careful. After all, Canada is a great country to live in. I love it here. Take care

My mom, who has parkinsons disease, has been waiting 14 months to see a neurologist. And she lives in Edmonton. She is getting sicker and sicker because NO ONE WILL HELP HER.
My step brother has stage 4 cancer. He was diagnosed 2 months ago and still has not seen an oncologist. This happens frequently. Cancer patients are dropping dead before their referral goes through.
I have brain cancer. In the USA I would have access to proton beam, gamma knife, and immunotherapy. But here, they have refused that because its too expensive and my life isnt worth it, they say. Instead, they have offered to suicide me. Yes, that is correct. In Canada, suicide is not necessarily something you do to yourself. The doctors are big on it and they offer death as a treatment option fairly often. So Im going to sell my house so i can pay for treatment in the USA to save my life.

Hi Emma, I moved to Montreal in 2004. You are expressing what many times I want to tell some family members living abroad. I perceive that they think we (me and my family here) are rich, that everything is easy for us, and that we enjoy the rest of positive things you said. Yes, we have a successful story and we are happy living here.
However, for people who are deciding to come, I would tell them that this is not for everybody, you have to be extremely open minded to forget old habits and adapt to new ones. As Emma said, we found things that are worst than what we were used to. We had to resign to those privileges we had before. Furthermore, in the province where I live you need to speak also French.
Canada doesn’t have all what you would look for. I think there is no ideal place on earth. However, in my case I’ve got a lot of good experiences and, not without effort, I learned to adapt to all the challenges.
In my case it was a good decision to come to Canada.
