The 1911 didn't kill the revolver. Police departments across the country, the FBI, etc. chose to carry revolvers for most of the 20th century, primarily because people were comfortable with revolvers and Colt and S&W marketed revolvers to law enforcement.
…we literally said that mere seconds after saying “the 1911 killed the revolver”. Which, the practical automatic handgun did lead to the decline of the revolver so, while not immediate, the 1911 was the first stone thrown towards the revolver’s popularity plunge.
