The farm store I manage. We sell hardware cloth, very small woven metal mesh. This will definitely help control rodents. For chicken pens I'd add like 12 ft tall posts, then put mesh bird netting across the entire coop area. This will keep your birds from flying out, plus keep out hawks and owls.

Great video, love to hear about the up coming plans! You’ve set out a pretty busy first year at this property! Let’s hope the weather behaves itself and cooperates with your schedule! I’ve seen other who have laid a very fine heavy duty mesh under their chicken coops to stop animals being able to burrow in from the outside, they extend the mesh outside of the area of the coop by 6/ 8 inches it stops the erosion of the soil. Likewise they also put mesh down under the full length of the chicken run. Again to discourage animals from trying to dig under the wire. As I don’t keep chickens I can only pass on the info, I haven’t tried or tested it! Looking forward to following your journey at your new homestead. Love your style of presentation.❤

You two are doing a great job! It is too bad that the new property is also wet, however you can turn that in to a positive with the pond. Rats are very difficult to get rid of they are very smart. I had a horrible issue with them years ago in my horse barn. Right now I have an ermine that has been killing birds. I set a live trap and caught a rat! Lol!
