One of the first pieces I learned. To this day, I'm still learning how to play it because it's the kind of piece that you cannot learn as a beginner. It is much more intricate than just playing the notes.

Interpretation is beautiful! The trills in the end and the cadenza are so clean and perfect. It is delightful to listen such a performance of Chopin nocturne. The tempo is also very calm and gives space for a beautiful and clear phrasing.

Someone may play this as well as Valentina but no one can play it better. Toward the climatic ending you can see Valentina was 'all in' and could barely contain herself. Every child in their formidable years should be given the pleasure of listening to this marvelous piece of music. Chopin touches our souls with a melody so enduring we listen to every note as if each one of them is telling us a story. The word crossover is used when a musical arrangement is so alluring it attracts listeners who are not accustomed to such sounds and they are mesmerized by it's beauty. Chopin's 'style' touches our hearts with a universal rhythm and the worlds people are so joyful they have had the opportunity to listen to such beautiful music.

This piece by Chopin is like a dream, a remembrance of someone once loved, once held close to the heart. It contains the thoughts and feelings, the sensations of past embraces, past moments now cherished in the memory of the heart. There is melancholy, yes, but also the earnest knowledge of how much this person was loved and is still loved. It is the song of someone who has come to fully possess the understanding of their own feelings of deep affection and appreciation for the person who is, and was the inspiration for such tender remembrance.
Chopin is the only composer for the piano imo who comes close to the same depth of personal realization of Beethoven, who more than any other composer found full expression of his mind and heart in his music. Great artists manage to pour all of themselves out in their art. In the process of revealing their personal humanity they reveal great secrets of all shared humanity. Valentina does a wonderful job of telling Chopin's story of his remembrance of someone once loved and still held dear.

Chopin is difficult to pull off correctly (and in this piece lies much complexity beneath the simplicity), yet you make it look so simple in your brilliant presentation. Love you, love your interpretation. You are clearly one of the best pianists of our time and an inspiration to me, my family, and my friends. Bravo to you Valentina!!!

VERY true... I've played this piece, and it's not that technically difficult. The difficulty and mastery comes in playing it with ease and a light hand- like it's floating. She makes it look like child's play

I discovered you on RUclips apparently later than most people. My Mom is a pianist. It was something she loved so much. But, she’s 80 now and can’t play anymore. I shared your music with her. Music makes her pretty emotional something I inherited from her. She loved your music and was very happy. You are truly amazing. Thank you for what you have given to all of us.

This elegant and empathetic nocturne tugs at my heart strings each and every time I hear and play it and more than any other, period, played with the necessary gentleness, poise, balance and touch by a true virtuoso, vivid in my childhood memory as my mother, Madame Maria Bonadio née Butera passed slowly nigh on 40 years ago. These rare treasures of life humble us through unique gateways and insights to the fragility of our souls and the emotional world that surrounds us. This enlightenment means more to me than anyone could possibly imagine so I, and others to follow in eternity, will be indebted to three pianoforte virtuosos for their art and inspiration; Madame Marie Pleye that inspired a 20 year old Chopin, Frédéric of course and Valentina that I love to bits.

Still easily the smoothest and most fluid interpretation of this famous nocturne by anybody I have ever heard, your sense of rubato, subtle fluctuations of a natural organic micro-accelerandos and desc.os like gentle cascading waves of the ocean. Just sublime and so exquisitely played, as if the soul of Chopin himself is guiding from the beyond at the Astral Conservatoire, psychically channeling forth the essence of the piece itself and how it should be played through you as a musical medium.

I have listened to different versions of this but love this one played by Valentina the most.I am sure this is how Chopin would have liked it to be played as well. What i love the most about this version is the pace. Some pianist rush with this piece and that to me destroys the haunting, poignant beauty of the piece. Also some play it loudly which again compromises on the beauty. This rendition is almost perfect!

So often with pieces like this pianists over sentimentalise to the point that it becomes indulgent and misses the point. This, however, is just right. The subtly of emotion is conveyed but not wallowed in and this gives it such character.

This and the first of the Op 9 Nocturnes are both pretty challenging in my opinion. Not technically. But Chopin's use of this fioritura in the right hand makes it really challenging. Like a lot of comments here say Lisitsa plays with a very natural and beautiful flow. And that's the hard part to achieve. This 2nd Op 9 Nocturne is one of the easiest classical pieces I have learned technically but the trouble comes from the lack of clear rhythmic line. One has to flow in and out of tempo. Slightly louder, slightly quieter. Back and forth. I still enjoy these Nocturnes though, still honing the last 3rd to complete the set. It gets to be a bit more technical, but I find it to be just as beautiful as the first two.

Zhinarkos True - it's no Moonlight Sonata No. 3 (which someone linked to Valentina playing flawlessly well in another comment). But they are different. Moonlight No. 3 is sort of like science, while this piece is more like art...if that makes sense.

In essence, yes, but the fioritura element persists. Not so much in this particular Nocturne, but certainly in the first of Op 9 and the third. It is a stable of Chopin, this unevenness and florish of melodic lines as ornaments rather than just using an actual ornament like a trill. Which he does too of course.

She maybe a mere "conduit" as she stated in one interview but a marvellous one. She's able to extract more beauty of the source notes than most of other conduits. You feel goosebumps every time you hear her playing. You can clearly distinguish her among others even in a blind test. It's like
Montserrat Caballé among opera singers. I have no absolute pitch by any means but I can identify exceptional art and it makes me very happy to listen to such music.
