Would like to take a moment to thank u from the bottom of my heart, ive been trying for years too convince my dad to stop boiling the chicken thighs in water for our roast dinner (idk why he dose that it isn't very good) today we tried this method of roast dinner, my dad loved it, less effort than what he would normally do for cooking AND less dishes! This dinner left clean plates all around and my dog had a disappointing scraps feast 😅, this was so well received we are going to do it again next week and my dad isn't being given a choice hahah not that he is complaining he loved it too xxx So thanks so much Barry for this video
@@rucker69 what? We are literally watching Barry's kids grow up. Yeah they are going to have moments but I have absolutely no doubt if either of the girls didnt want to be filmed he wouldnt film them. This is just how some preteens/teens are some days
We usually cook our chicken and veg in the same pan when we make a roast dinner. Just without the peas and gravy. We make our gravy with the pan juices. :) Also, nice owl Phoebe!
Last week, I did a one pan dinner with potatoes, carrots, celery, and onion, and then I seasoned a pork tenderloin and wrapped it in bacon and put it in the same pan so the veg was ultimately flavored with bacon grease.
That's pretty much what I do with a slow cooker or crock pot, just pile everything in and make sure there's plenty of liquid. Though you won't get the browning effect. Never tried the lemon bit.
Love Pheobe's comment: "why does it have shoes on?"🤣🤣😂🤣❤👍 And the comment about the lemon up its bum, with the most dad response: why, don't you? LOVE THIS FAMILY!! ❤❤❤ AND I'm quite surprised, Barry...its a savory dish...why no paprika? You forgot??🤯
Nice to see Phoebe in a video. Been watching since about 2012. You even mention me in a video when you did oven ribs lol that was in around 2014. My daughter is roughly the same age as Phoebe. This video is something I'll definitely try. Phoebe looks a lot more like her mum every day... Well everytime she's in a video.
In Cornwall we a similar thing made with beef called an Under roast. Its made many different ways but often the pan would be covered with pastry because it was filling and cheap
I gave a Christmas card to the neighbours Sam and Ella last year. It was February before I realised his name is Zac. Still makes me blush when I remember.
I have tried this many times in a rush. A midweek roast in our house when the kids were younger 🙂 had forgotten tho 🙂 often can't be bothered making one just for myself but this method would be good and lots of leftovers. Thanks
One of these days I'm going to get brave enough to try my hand at Yorkshire puddings & gravy. I know they're not in this video but roasted meat always reminds me of them. I dont know why, maybe it's my love of British things/culture but I've always wanted to try them!

I love your videos, Barry, but I couldn't bring myself to watch this one. About four years ago I did something very similar as a 'welcome home from hospital' dinner for my Dad, except he never came home. It would have been his birthday tomorrow. Hey Barry - rolling the lemon works - it does release more juice - but microwaving it for 20/30 seconds before rolling it will release a hell of a lot more juice! Don't put it in the toaster it tho mate 🙄
Noice one Barry! - You know, you can do something like this with meat sauce(bollonaise). Still brown whatever meat, then add rest of ingredients(Not pasta, straight away). Then slow cook in oven for aprox 1 hour, checking of course, then if want add pasta and a little water for another ten minutes or so. - I like doing this as the meat concentrates the flavour more, if you have the time to do this. Its good for lower quality/cheap mince as it gives the flavour more time to develope, and if you are sharing a meal with others this makes the kitchen smell good.
I like to roast a chicken on a rack over a tray of taters and veg so all the juices drip down and flavour the veg, it’s amazing! You don’t quite get the same crisp but the extra layer of flavour it adds really makes up for it. I imagine an all one one tray would do about the same thing. I want roast chicken now.....

I love to make a cavity between the breast and skin to put a slice of onion, garlic butter, and wedge if lemon. Put skin back down and let the twine holding the legs hold the loose skin down. Instead of butter on the skin just a dry rub of salt, thyme, garlic granules, onion granules, and a pinch of brown sugar, with a squeeze of lemon over it. Soo tasty!
