🌞🌲💕Our beautiful & bouncy baby Xiao Qi Ji bounding boisterously with mama Mei & his keepers!🐾🐼💫

- Xiao Qi Ji was super energetic last Friday morning! I arrived to see him descend from his tree, explore the hillside, munch boo leaves & wrestle loggies. He so adorable with his loggies, hugging & biting & rolling round 🤩😭 Then he was off like a hyperactive toddler, scampering up & down trees and practicing his ninja moves on mama Mei.. the old pounce and roll maneuver! It seemed like he was in a bit of frenzy racing round trying to play with everything in the yard for a few seconds only. It reminded me of preschoolers in the playground 🤭 The way Mei stared at him, like she was thinking what in the world got into you! He was moving so fast that I had trouble keeping my cam on him!
He settled down when it was sugarcane snacktime and grabbed 1 of the 2 big sticks, which was commandeered by Mei later after a vigorous chase. But he got his own little baby cane and finished it off with no resistance. Then Mei was let indoors while Qi Ji was still salvaging his scraps and keepers came out to refresh treats in the yard. Curious cubbie went over to Marty, who offered him a snack. But what he really wanted was to hug Marty's leggies and get his complete attention! You can tell Qi Ji loves his keeper buddies and they love him so much. Marty left apple bits on his fuzzy belly, which Qi Ji nibbled very daintily as he sat on the lawn looking gorgeous & happy!
I included some of my Sunday morning visit, which began with Mariel training Qi Ji at the gate. Mostly just saw her sweet face and Qi Ji's back, but it was very cute! Then he climbed up a tree and I waited 3 hours... alas I had to leave our beloved pandas before little one awoke.

Thank you so much Susan! 🤗🥰 I'm pretty sure those are mostly all coming from the same person, using different google accounts. I have a troll who comments on other uploaders videos, who had accused me of copying DM videos when i was making webcam videos. They are good friends with another webcam uploader, so I think it was a competitive type of thing. This happened another time, they gave me a thumbs down every hour until there were 13. I think they were trying to give me bad luck 🤣 I bet you there will be 13 thumbs down by the time they're finished! No worries, it doesn't hurt my feelings, I just think they are crazy is all 😍❣🐼

I love the baby panda as he rolls and plays with his Mom. She has quite a lot of patience but I love how she pushes him away when she has had enough!!
I was laughing so hard at Qi Ji's ninja moves and trying to keep up with him racing around the yard🤣 Mei pulled him by the scruff of his neck finally and batted him around a bit when she had enough! 😍❣🐼

Tai, this video was absolutely amazing! The close ups of our precious baby panda were the best and listening to the joy in your voice watching our cutie pie make the video even more precious. Watching him with his handlers is so sweet. I want their job for one day! Their love for him and his love for them is truly a testimony to them and the wonderful job the do for our panda family. Thank you for this and all your videos. And yes he does remind you of preschoolers running around his playground and I should know since I teach 4 and 5 year olds . I have a new class and have started to introduce them to Qi Ji. They already adore him and could not understand why he was eating leaves. They wanted to give him some of our lunch. They also liked some of his toys and wanted to know if he could share with them and I could go ask him and bring some to the school. I just love the way they think! They see him as one of them. I guess that is why I love them and teach this age group and love our really cute adorable funny, tree climbing, rolling down hills etc. Panda.
Thank you Donna! 🤗🥰 I realized afterwards that I was doing the baby talk to Xiao Qi Ji while I watched him, as though he can actually hear me 🤭😂 Guess us panda lovers can't help gushing over the most marvelous little miracle in the world! I'd love to be a keeper for a day, I think they let people volunteer at the China panda reserve to have keeper duties for a few hours then hold a baby panda for a few minutes. For a hefty few thousand I think. I'm definitely doing that one day! Your kiddies sound adorable, wanting to share food with Qi Ji is so sweet. They must feel a connection with this playful and silly cubbie that is so much like them! I talk to Qi Ji as I watch him on the live feed and videos and I at times use the baby talk and I think it is because he is so darn cute and brings the mommy out of all of us! Enjoy your visits with our panda family! Tell them that I say hello and so does The Rainbow Room! My class will be joining a postcard exchange with preschools around the world and I hope we will have a preschool from China in our group. I did a few years ago before Qi Ji.

@@CrystallyLavender I think they are spending less time close to him now because his adult teeth are coming in so it's dangerous. Marty was not expecting to play with Qi Ji, silly cub just grabbed his leg when he tried to walk away! 😅 Looked like our precious cub knew to be gentle with his human! 😍❣🐼
@@taiwang8864 yeah, I could tell that Marty wasn’t. But I’m very surprised that they’re spending less time with him already, because the videos of pandas in China definitely show that keepers are around pandas his age on a daily basis. They only stop when the pandas are around two. As for tourists, they even used to let people sit and take pictures with pandas that were up to one and half years of age, when it was still allowed. So I’m surprised to hear that they’re already cutting down on time spent with him even though he just turned one. But then again, keepers in China get into panda moms’ enclosures regularly when they have babies, so they obviously do things very differently there. I’ve seen videos of them getting in there to help moms nurse their babies and obtain colostrum, and the most jaw-dropping part is that the panda moms are very docile and pretty much just let the keepers do whatever they need to do. Thank you for letting me know that they’re cutting down on being too close to the cutie pie already. 🙂😍❤️
@@CrystallyLavender I've seen that too, wonder why keepers do things differently here. Someone mentioned that extra safety precautions for staff here might be the result of higher rates of injury lawsuits in the US. Guess zoos would be very concerned about this. 😍❣😅

QiJi was dragging his little leg at first, I was so afraid he had sprung his lil foot or leg. God for bid something happened to him I love him so much. When he started sprinting around like a little crazed panda. He is so energetic.That’s what I love to see QiJi in all his splinder.He tries to get away from Mei with his sugar cane but she always catches up with him,finally he got a small piece that he could manage.( hurray)He was so cute with the trainer he wanted to play more than eat his treat.💗💙
There were couple other panda house visitors who were also concerned about Qi Ji dragging his leggies sometimes. I had assumed he was doing it on purpose, especially coming down that hillside can be tricky. He often takes a tumble roll there! Dragging a leg would help prevent him from falling over while walking 🤭 He is so darn creative and clever! And the most adorable crazed hyperactive panda baby of course. So happy he got another baby cane piece all to himself, again! 😍❣🐼
When I noticed him doing it he just fell out of the tree but it wasn’t a high fall.

Qi Ji sure tried his cutest to get Mei to play with him! Lol! When tricks and sticks failed, he showed us that keep away with the sugar cane, definitely works. 🐼❤️
He was irresistibly cute bouncing round everywhere! Mei responded by biting and pulling him by the scruff of his neck then rolling him 🤭🤣 Oh and she will drop anything anytime for a game of chase the sugarcane!😍❣🐼

Xiao Qi Ji hasn't eaten much boo stalks yet but he gets plenty of fruits and veggies and biscuits as well as milk for comfort. And yes Qi Ji is an exceptional acrobat with dexterity, you can tell from his incredible stunts on yhe hammock structure and treetops! 😍❣🐼

Such an excellent video. I was laughing at our little miracle so much. Thank u. He is indeed a very busy toddler. I think he climbed every tree. Ur right, Mei did look at her precious son as if to say what in the world got into u??? Every toy was touched, every bit of food was eaten. His ninja moves. His scary beary move is delightful and hilarious. Them from big panda to rolling and falling over. Hanging upside down from his trees. The interaction with Marty was so sweet. I could really tell how big Qi Ji has become. Marty looked dwarfed. I have read that when pandas try to hold onto u, it is the same as getting a hug. It is a sign of affection. Marty was grinning and talking to him. The keepers do love him so much. They also keep an eye out for each other. The other keeper bringing an apple out was very smart. The smile Mariel had on her face was just so wonderful. He is loved for and cared for very well. He is such a scamp. He is coming into his own. He is comfortable in his world. He enjoys his life with such abandonment. It is fun and touching to watch. We also got to see Tian Tian. He is really a big boy and so very handsome. Thank u so much Tai Wang for another wonderful zoo visit.
Thank you Kathy! 🤗🥰 Qi Ji was bursting with energy for half an hour non-stop stop! I felt so lucky & overjoyed to be there and capture this episode for everyone. He was like a toddler hopped up on sugar! I suspected that loggie had a invigorating scent on it. Or he's just feeling extra zippy! Xiao Qi Ji obviously wants more than treats from his keeper buddies, he watches them closely and always wants to play. When Marty walked away, I could tell Qi Ji was thinking "where ya goin?" while he continued chewing 🤭 I love seeing Qi Ji's affection for his peoples, he just wants to hug everyone and everything around him! And I'm glad you pointed out Nicole coming over with the apple, I was thinking it was a "rescue" effort. Just to be sure Marty doesn't accidentally get scratched. Although any of us would prefer to be to the embrace of precious Qi Ji at the risk of harm to us! 🤣😭 Thank you for joining me on this awesome trip Kathy! What Qi Ji just did on that tree, hanging upside down and climbing shows that he exhibits smarts and intelligence. He just loves being in the yard.
Qi Ji is such a strong and athletic cubbie! He has the skills & precision of an acrobat in the treetops. And he is highly intelligent, always finding creative solutions to achieve his goals. On top of looking gorgeous like a perfect fluffy plushy doll! He's extraordinary 😍❣🐼

What an action-packed Friday morning! I almost expected Qi Ji to grab the brown bag of treats from Marty and bolt up a tree. He's getting pretty smart, so anything is possible. At least he got some apple out of it. As always, thanks for sharing the video.

Was Mei and Tian that way when they were cubs? no wonder they had beautiful cubs Of all the panda bears I've seen they have to be the number one pandas who Mei raised with such caring loving them so much I wish china would let us keep them here for the remaining years they have and not rock their lives by moving them
I heard Tian Tian was more playful and friendly with Mei than she wanted 🤭 back when they were cubs. Their intelligence and physical abilities test results were very high, so of course they would have such an extraordinary baby! Yes it would be wonderful if our panda family could stay, or at least Qi Ji with maybe a little lady friend in the future?! 😍❣🐼

Some animals eat without much expression, but pandas seem to enjoy the taste of their treats like apples and sugarcanes. They close their eyes and sometimes take almost delicate bites, like Qi Ji at 18:03.
Pandas inherently know how to enjoy life lol! Qi Ji eats with such relish, clasping his fruit veggie daintily in his graceful paw! I feel his joy & feel satiated watching him fill his belly. It's cathartic lol 😍❣🐼
@@taiwang8864 I love when more food ends up _on_ his tummy rather than _in_ it. I am guessing he is mostly sucking the juice from the cane fibers? I had sugarcane once or twice as a kid and I’m not ashamed to say that I have been thinking of ordering some. When a mother will step over her own son just to get one, it must be good. And he would steal it from her, too, if only he was big enough.
@@darkprose Qi Ji has been juggling feeders over himself so biscuits drop on his belly table for him to eat. It's ridiculously cute when they eat off their belly! By this time now Qi Ji is able to chew the sugarcane & swallow, I've seen him do it many times. I myself never tried it and after watching these happy pandas I would like to try it too! 😍❣🐼

How much longer will keepers get to be in same place with Qi Ji ?
I've only heard unofficially that keepers can't be in the same space as cubbies much past one year age. Many watchers commented on whether Marty got scratched at all. He looked totally fine to me 😍❣🐼

Actually, I’ve seen keepers in China in the same space with pandas that are almost 2, and it’s a normal thing. They even do that regularly with adult female pandas when they’re nursing to help the baby suckle and sometimes to get milk from the mother to be stored up. And it’s pretty unbelievable that the moms just sit there and let the keepers do whatever they need to do, because of the trust they’ve built. Most of the moms even lean their heads on the keepers’ arms or lick their hands and arms repeatedly like when they lick their babies. There was one older documentary where the vet just walks right up to the mom who’s literally just given birth and took the baby from her to cut the umbilical cord and she just docilely sat there every time he goes in to retrieve the baby for health checkups or to squeeze milk from her. And then I realized that there aren’t even bars for her enclosure! Pretty unbelievable to watch! The vet explained that they’ve taken care of her very well and she just really trusts them. Pandas are such fascinating and mysterious animals! There’s no way that you could do that with any other bears, though there’s might be rare exceptions.
You probably saw this already, but there is a video from the den cam on 9 Sept 2020 when Qi Ji was still very small and helpless. The video shows Mei hovering over him. She bent over slowly and it looked like she was gently gathering him in her arm-but nope. _Laying behind him was a sugarcane stalk!_ Qi Ji was between Mei and the sugarcane. She left Qi Ji where he was and went softly and quietly to the corner to enjoy it. He’s been an obstacle to sugarcane before he could even see it. It really looked like she was picking him up because she was moving so softly and carefully, but it was because she wanted to get the cane and eat it without accidentally waking him up. So cute.

No QiJi is not eating garbage, he enjoys chewing on all the plants in the yard and tasting different flavors. Sometimes he likes the dead leaves 🤷♀️
What is interesting is China keepers interact with the age until almost an adult even up to close to two. I understand why the women might not . Marty could. I know one thing he feels safe with them as baby all animals like our pets . Want attention.
That's true, the Chinese keepers interact until a later age but they wear the gloves and high boots for safety. Marty knows what he's doing and how to handle Qi Ji like an expert. Qi Ji just wants to give him lots of hugs to show him love! 😍❣🐼

Do not worry, QiJi is eating a lot of food. He is not fat because he is athletic and very active. Pandas enjoy bamboo leaves, see Mei and Tian likes eating the bamboo leaves also 😍❣🐼
I really want to suggest the keepers to strictly follow the protocol, like wearing face masks, when closely dealing with the pandas. Just saw the news today that 6 lions and 3 tigers in the national zoo got COVID. This is terrible. The staff in the zoo should all get vaccinated.
I would agree that it might help lower risk of transmission if the keepers wear masks and I believe all keepers are vaccinated. Being vaccinated does not mean you can't contract covid though, you just don't get as sick. Terrible news about the lions & tigers, we're all very upset about it! Thank you for caring 😍❣🐼
