      In AZA accredited zoos, the animals are treated with the best care around. They're practically spoiled because they don't need to worry about survival and can just relax.

      My parents & I got to go to the Panda House one morning before the National Zoo opened and had a private tour with two panda keepers, Juan (who is in this video) and Mark. We were back in the keepers only area with no barriers between us & Bei Bei and arm's reach from Tian Tian & Mei Xiang. This was a few months prior to the filming of this video, so Bei was younger than he is here but old enough the Panda House was open again after his birth. During this hour, we got to talking with Mark & Juan about Bao Bao's approaching departure for China. Mark was the one who ended up accompanying Bao to China. Anyway, we discussed this very thing with them! Mark said it best. He said that although it IS very difficult to see them go, they see it as sending them off to help save their species. He said it's bittersweet for sure but those who work with them every single day are very proud of their work and that as scientists and conservationists, to see their work bear fruit is very fulfilling. Remember that the panda cubs wouldn't even exist if not for the people at the zoo who do the fertility work so their very existence is a victory for those who do that work. Mark said that to see the work they do day in & day out end up with the result of more pandas in the world and pandas to send to China to produce even more pandas and to continue to learn from about the species is the entire goal of what they do for their careers. So yes, it's very sad for them, but they see it as success.

    Mei Xiang is a great mom in the past 20 years and she gave birth to a baby in this year but her mental state is really not well after delivery until today. No love is greater than maternal love even just animals.
    Although Mei Xiang is elder but she always does her best to entertain everyone in the Smithsonian's national zoo , doesn't it? I never saw any zookeeper to take special care for her and only stole her child for medical exam when she ate meals. She fears losing her child after she lost Bei Bei. Smithsonian's national zoo often gave used cardboard boxes and baskets dipped in honey for Mei Xiang to lick and no other nutritious food like other zookeepers of other countries give apples, carrots and wowo tou for giant pandas every day.
    In the zoos of other coutries, the panda zookeepers would give the baby panda human care to make mom panda relax and eat delicious food but SNZ never did . Mei Xiang sometimes makes abnormal sounds loudly we all worried about her but SNZ ignored it. Every baby panda depend on mother to survive but humen in SNZ almost not treat Mei Xiang as a human but only a tool for biological research. Please SNZ to give well treatment for giant pandas there. The South Korea is your model to take care of giant pandas if they are 6-star and SNZ will be 1-star that poor standard and not professional at all.

It was funny b/c she also was making many other people happy--one lady was squealing that she just loved them!!...One man couldn't stop staring & said they were so serene!..One set of fans were laughing at every move & taking pictures... Pandas are enchanting or magical in some way...and, thankfully, now slowly recovering from near extinction! :)

    ¿Sigue el oso panda en peligro de extinción?
    Para quienes hoy en día se preguntan si el oso panda se extingue, tenemos una buena noticia: los osos panda ya no están en peligro de extinción. Desde hace poco tiempo, los registros oficiales de su población han mejorado y ahora la especie ha sido catalogada en estado de vulnerabilidad, justo el paso previo al estado de peligro en el que se hallaban, por lo que parece que muy poco a poco van recuperándose (Ecología Verde)

    I saw n another documentary that the Chinese complained about feeding pandas with any ice because it causes intestinal problems. They discovered that when the pandas returned to China. Wonder why this zoo and other haven't gotten the memo?

    • @lindasturm699
      @lindasturm699 6 лет назад +3

      Strange the problems only develop when they are IN CHINA. Mei Xiang, Tian Tian, Bao Bao, never have a problem with the frozen fruitys. Tai Shan NEVER had any problems with the iced fruitys and only developed problems when he TRANSFERED TO CHINA. Bei Bei at three years old now, has NEVER had a problem with them either.

    • @acs5008
      @acs5008 4 года назад +3

      I am a new Panda Addict, so I am not very knowledgeable to Panda tidbits, but could it be that this intestinal problem is due to the different water used to freeze the fruits, [the ice] ? Similar to when we Americans visit Mexico we will have problems if we drink the water. not that the water is bad, but our body is not accustom to the purification method used.

      We like to hear the full story. We ask how is the statement possible? What is different? Etc.

      The cub separation is natural. They’re fed well and treated well. The only deaths the national zoo has had for pandas are 2 cubs under 2 weeks (high mortality rate as is) and the ones loaned in the 70s
