Ya know, I listened to King Diamond and Slayer and all them. Love em. But I can tell you I surely do respect the WORLD outta Stryper. Their musicianship is absolutely impeccable.
These guys were amazing live. Saw them play in Duluth, MN. about 30 years ago. Anybody out there still have their Stryper bible. They used to throw them into the crowd at their shows. Wish I still had mine.
Just found this. I saw Stryper play Clowes Hall back in the eighties - phenomenally perfect concert and after the years and years of concerts it still remains the best show I ever saw.
I just saw them in concert 2 nights ago in Lancaster, PA and Michael sounds as good now as he did back then. I watched them do soundcheck and he's definitely the real deal... They're touring now, so maybe you'll still get to check them out. Awesome show!!!
Wow! I didn't even know this existed. LOL!! Probably cuz in 85 I was 15 and too busy listening to Duran Duran and other British pop. But that soon changed in 87...and the rest is history! Thanks for posting this!!
Michael Sweet has such an amazing live voice; it's a shame in that era so much of the live stuff had to be lip synched. I saw Stryper live in 2009 and when he hit the high octive scream at the end of "Soldiers Under Command" the whole place went crazy. Many voices from the 70s and 80s rely on backup singers to hit the high notes but his isn't one of them. Rockin the world for you Holy One!!
Finally found this posted on YT. Thanks to Stryperized! What you don't see is the interview with Pat Boone who kinda brought them to the show and the interview that followed. I was just 19 when this was on TV,but their first album [ I had that had the soon banned cover] was already on the Christian market -esp. You Know What To Do....ah the days gone by....
@TheClassicrockgrl No, you're not completely blind but, you did miss the circle around it with the slash through it just like the no smoking signs! They are saying NO to the Devil well, actually as one of their songs goes they are saying TO HELL WITH THE DEVIL!!!!! Hopefully you're understanding now!! God Bless!!
if u guys dont love Jesus and u love stryper then u guys just throw all ur stryper cds away cause Jesus is our man he's our gardian and stryper is great and i dont get it if u talk about the devil ur cool and when u talk about god ur not stryper is great the reason why not much people like them is because of religion i love stryper and i love Jesus we should all love jesus thumbs up if u agree
Stryper derives from King James version 53:5. " But he wounded by our trangressions he was bruised for Our Iniquities: The Chastisement of our Peace upon him; and with his Stripes We Are Healed ". Stryper Stands for Salvation, Through Redemption Yielding, Peace, Encouragement and Righteousness.
@coldnprickly im only 13 and i been into stryper for about two months and there great i own every thing by them and i want to see a stryper show so bad and i bet Michael did great on that high note cause Michael still sounds the same still he sounds great at least Stryper is actually worth seeing in concert then seeing Motley Crue in concert or somthing or some other great bands that arent any good but Stryper is amazing man
I like Stryper and I'm a fan. I like their music. But this performance a bit embarassing. Not that the music is bad.. it is great.. it;s just the dancing.. you know..

This makes me smile as I reflect on the 1980s and headbanging at Stryper concerts!!!!! I am passing this along!
Just found this. I saw Stryper play Clowes Hall back in the eighties - phenomenally perfect concert and after the years and years of concerts it still remains the best show I ever saw.
These guys have a God given talent. They are very, very good at what they do, there is definite chemistry and purpose in what they do.
30 plus years later still going damn strong and haven't lost anything performing wise.
I just saw them in concert 2 nights ago in Lancaster, PA and Michael sounds as good now as he did back then. I watched them do soundcheck and he's definitely the real deal... They're touring now, so maybe you'll still get to check them out. Awesome show!!!

The Clarences love & support Stryper!
No CD´S .it was stryper bibles !
@Luezur No, he's holding up Bible's with the Stryper logo on them. They throw them out at all concerts!
They played this song live the first three times I saw them(in 1987 and twice in 2003). But they didn't play it when I saw them last in 2005.
there is a video on you tube at the doves.

Say what you want about this band, but they do what they want to do.
Stryper rocks!

Sweet! (not a pun!) Thanks dude!
First time I heard them (You Know What To Do in 1984) I thought "whoa, heavy metal Styx".
@guidav123 I read someplace that during the dove awards they cut t a commercial like 20 seconds into their performance. I could be wrong though..
@slikkwon That's where he got the nickname "Visual Timekeeper" my man!
@jblue2000 well, lol, its hard to believe but it was cool in this era
They performed this same song on the Dove Awards. i do not think the older ones hearing was the same since.
2:20
wow
@THRASHFKINFILLETS HA-HA-HA-HA-HA....LOL!!!!! Hilarious!
At 1:49 he started doin' an Elvis impersonation,ha,ha,ha!!!
He can hit better notes than that nowadays, in terms of power. A prime example is Mercy Over Blame off of Murder By Pride.
:)
My sister says it looks like Robert Sweet is using his head to hit the thing behind him at 2:23 :-)
Oz Fox reminds me of Troy Polamalu!!
777 o/
its definetely lip-synced, Robert didn't make any mistakes. :) Just kidding, Love Stryper!
Actually he still can
Lip syncing !! Would rather see them try to pull this song off live !
aargh! lip-synced! Why? Oh well, great song!
