These self righteous people need to quit judging the book by its cover I was one of those teenagers who were reached to Christ through bands like Stryper and Petra !!!!
I discovered Stryper a few years ago and may have been instrumental in me coming to Christ. They drew a metal head like me because they could rock, and opened my mind to the possibility one spin of the record at a time. Christ reached me through them and my wonderful wife challenging my preconceptions.
Robert Sweet nailed it on the head. "We don't tell kids to bang their heads at our shows. Let's face it, there are people who go to church and fall asleep in their pew. But, that doesn't mean as the pastor you encourage it."
That part, about people falling asleep in Church, is something that I've seen, time and time again! If a "Minister" is so boring, and droning on and on and on about the way that we should live our life before Almighty God, instead of, if you will, making his message short and sweet, then that's not ministering to the parishioners of that Church. That's taking them, in a sense of phrasing, and putting them into a bed, and reading them a bedtime story, until the next thing you know, you hear this:"Zzzzzzz.....ZZZZZ....ZZZZZ..& so on. That's not ministering! That's boring them to sleep!!! I won't say that I agree with everything about Stryper, but let them minister to the general public, of Jesus Christ, w his saving grace and power! You never know, when that may be the ONLY TIME that some people will hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ, become a Christian...and not get put to sleep by a bunch of droning on and on about something in the process!!!
The Lord's use of this band has been (and still IS) EXTREMELY affective; they've prevented MANY suicide attempts and helped changed MANY young folks lives!...God bless STRYPER!👍👍👍
i grew up in church and grew up listening to Stryper, we were just glad we had a band that we could listen to that was positive and that was all about spreading the Gospel. Thank God for these guys, they were reaching kids that would not other wise ever darken the door of a church. I love these guys, well done fellas!!
Despite having very different opinions, I am struck by the civil nature of the panelists and the journalists. We would never have such a calm, polite conversation these days.
It doesn't matter how you spread the Gospel. Just as long as you are doing it! My hats off to this band for reaching out to kid's about Jesus Christ! Jesus had long hair too! 💖
I've been a fan of Stryper since 1989 (In God We Trust was the first album I got), and EVERYONE who loved Stryper got it. None of us believed it was a "gimmick" or they were blaspheming God. This minister didn't really know a thing and just listened to the nay-sayers, and prejudged (against what The Bible says) the band. Music is a universal language. Stryper brought that and a great message to the people for the past 30 years. Obviously they've done something great!
I am 67 years old and was blessed by the bands reponse to the pastor. Common sense, pointing to Jesus, good attitude and humor (pastor encouraging people who fall asleep in pews). Yay, Stryper. God get more souls for Jesus. Look past the religious points taken.
There such great people there very sweet. Back then I thought I was a big shot cause I got to meet and greet them. I won a backstage pass from the radio lol
61 yrs old, 55 yrs as a drummer, a Christian and a Fan of Stryper from day one ! I have fallen asleep in the pews many times but never during a Stryper song. The Bible does say to worship the Lord through instruments and dance! Baby Boomers started Contemporary Christian Music which started to vanish until the youth of today started to embrace it. I grew up hearing the preaching of hell fire and brimstone preachers and honestly they always seemed angry to me. My God is a loving God and I don't think it matters what path you walk to the Lord so long as you're praising his name. You can Rock your way to God as long as you cast no stones!
Yep, exactly!! I always like to say, it says to make a joyful NOISE... it doesn't say it must only be played in keys A, C, D, and F (just throwing out examples, BTW) :P
Stryper is not Christian music. They are Heavy Metal. They are not spreading the word of God with their songs. They are using good faith and pointing out misjudgements to people who preached heavy metal being dark and evil which is far from the truth. Heavy Metal is only music and is not condoning evil. At least not Stryper.
Did you notice the crowd? Proved their point about reaching youth. I took a couple kids, who were heavy into Motley Crue, to a Stryper show and they were born again that night. We were too far back to catch Bibles, but I hooked 'em up
The stryper band members were very cordial and listened to the minister. Love their answers. And how they went about expressing their purpose. The shaking of the hands at the end meant peace and harmony
Not only is Stryper still around, but haven’t lost their faith, they STILL stand up for what they believe in AND are making music that could crack concrete. The Pharisees are always stifled.
I have been an atheist my entire adult life and love Stryper. I first saw them live in the mid 80's on the Soldiers tour and still listen to them today. Their message never got in the way of me enjoying their music, so I don't see how headbanging and heavy music would get in the way of a Christian enjoying their message.
Stryper stood their ground, the other guy backpedaled. Face to face is good proof of well thought out convictions, "let no one despise you for your youth but be an example..." We love Stryper, Jesus loves Stryper.
I invited Jesus in my life at a Stryper concert I even went home with a Bible in my hand . I never went to church I never picked up a Bible in my life but after that concert I no longer wanted to commit suicide because I had hope I now read my Bible I pray even go to church God used these men to win people like me and if that was the only way God was going to get through me, I praise Him for using this band to save my soul thank You Lord and God bless Stryper!!❤️🙌🏼🙏🏽
I have been a fan since 1986("To Hell With The Devil). I was 19 that year. In all those years. I have only been to see them twice in concert, along with one online concert. I never get displeased by their style of music. Because the message is the important part. GOD BLESS STRYPER!!!
Love the band and this interview. The simple courage and sincerity here is eye opening, if you are looking. Nobody is perfect, even if any of them have stumbled here and there, the reality is that these long haired rock musicians won over a stiff, big time preacher and a crowd of retired folks with simple sincerity, the Word, and a heart for Jesus. How much more so have they won over so many lost rock and roll fans and led them to open their hearts to Jesus.
Oh wow, Fred Nile is just as old fashioned back then as he is today. Stryper were really respectful of his opinion and obviously held back a lot of good arguments.
God bless you. I'd heard the word for many years and LOVE Stryper's music. However, I found Jesus (finally accepted Him) in 2010. It is truly amazing how much He loves me/us. Jesus is real, and His love is NEVER-ending. Praise God !!!
Whilst the pastor might have the best of intentions, he can't reach everyone with his message. Stryper can reach those that would have never set foot in his church.
The Stryper guys were very classy here, they easily could have told that guy to shove it and walked off. Not really the Christian thing to do, but the fact that this Minister or whatever was so persistent in his theory that Stryper was taking kids away from religion was getting seriously annoying.
Yup. The trouble with people who think reaching a certain age gives them the only authority on certain things. That man got old long before he reached a certain age.
That's probably because the guys in stryper's faith is genuine. Some people go into the ministry because their parents pushed them into it or because it's an ego trip thing for them.
The lord stated that healthy people aren’t in need of a doctor. Stryper was taking the message to those in need of it, those who may never hear it otherwise. Why so many of these ministers disapprove of it boggles my mind. Arguably, Stryper has reached more people than the ministers ever did. Those ministers just sat in their house of worship and WAITED for people to come to them. Stryper dared to go into the unknown and reach out.
I stayed on course with Christ because of groups like Stryper. Took my son to see them with me in Tempe, AZ .. 30 years after seeing them. Same message as it was then... Michael Sweets voice and singing is actually better now than then...
This minister is a good example of pharisitical legalism. Old legalists in the 1800s fought against the classical hymns because some of them had the same sounds as bar room tunes at the time. Yet those hymn had some of the most beautiful Christian lyrics. God is not a judge of the tune or sound just the content. Just like God doesn't judge outward appearance only the heart. Judging on the physical or sound of things is a sin. It's what christ talking about on judging. You can judge the spiritual character.
I stand with Stryper and the message regardless. The energy and love for the Lord in the music is still going strong and powerful today. Writng this 31/12/2022 🌞🙏🥰
These boys were one of the best CHRISTIAN ROCK BANDS EVER. I SAW THEM TWICE & LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF BOTH GIGS. THEY LOVE TO ROCK, BUT MORE TO THE POINT, THEY LOVE JESUS. HE IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON.
Jesus said be in the world not of the world but it also says in the bible, I have become all things to all people to win over people to Christ which is exactly what Stryper has done.
You know, why do ppl judge bands like Stryper! They have good hearts and sing about Christ! Leave them alone! I'm 45 now, but when I was 18 I received Jesus in my heart, and Stryper and other Christian metal bands led me to that incredible decision! Jesus touched me through them! THANK u styrper for spreading the Word! Jesus Rocks!!!
People like the preacher in this video are why so many non-saved metal fans don't believe that Christian metal can exist, and why teenagers leave the church after graduating high school. They're being told that anyone who calls themselves a Christian and plays metal, are only fooling themselves.
To hell with the devil is the album that I listen to as a metalhead that was unsaved. And it planted the seed of salvation within my heart. This preacher is a blind man.
Dial it back a couple hundred yrs, a person could pump their fists in excitement when hearing a particularly powerful piece of music. (Like in the movie Amadeus) When they physically wish to celebrate it with a physical expression like "head-banging" it's not wrong at all.
Good Point if you are afraid to come to a Stryper concert than don’t come at all I am a drummer player playing gospel music it is So Awesome playing for Jesus Christ
When I first came to Christ, this band was pivotal in helping me transition away from secular music. I remain grateful to this day that this band took the stand they did.
i'm sorry fred but you sound like the pharisees who condemned jesus for hanging out with sinners what does it matter whether you wear skin tight pants & leather jackets or a suit or shorts ,tank top & flip flops i know God does'nt care cause it's what is in your heart that counts & strypers heart is in the right place stop being religious be relational God rocks God bless
Petra sang the song test of time on their jekyll & hyde album, both Petra & Stryper have definitely stood the test of time. Certainly a great witness of testimony in their life's work, & that is in obedience to the great commission, go into all the world and preach the gospel.🪔✝️💖🙏
I like Guardian too. The Lord inhabits the praises of His people When you're singing and praising the Lord, He's right there with you Preachers don't like it when they can't control it and that's sad
Good old ray Martin, he hasn't been on tv in at least 20 years. There was an Australian comedy show that used to mock rays hair. Being it looked so shiny and solid that it was plastic. The show was called 'full frontal' and the actor that played ray was Eric bana him self, before he was a Hollywood actor
If I wasn't already a Christian and listened to Mr. Nile vs Stryper, looking at the whole thing from an unbiased view, I would totally value the brothers from Stryper and their words and logic. As for Fred Nile,,,not so much. God bless Stryper and their families! As for you Mr. Nile, well,,,may God bless you and yours as well. JESUS CHRIST IS THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE!😇🙏🕊
luv Stryper, been into them since the 80's... I feel God speak through them in their music and it brings me closer to him through Jesus... Rev Nile's narrow minded view is why I left church 30 years ago and why so many religions give God a bad name, so many people turn away from the Lord when they should hold onto him and leave out the churchy legalistic rubbish they sell..
What I've found even more galling lately, is growing numbers of "Christians" claiming that playing instruments during worship is wrong, they say it changes the message of the Lyrics, what to mean the opposite? would they say the same about lyrics praising Satan meaning the opposite when put to "traditional" music? I doubt it, because it doesn't. I'm a musician, and I love the Lord, I write songs that praise God or point people to Jesus Christ. For Me being a Christian means that I need to use the gifts that God gave me for His glory. While there's music that I don't particularly get into, I don't believe that any of it is evil.
What did the Apostle Paul say, "When in Rome I did as the Romans did" meaning that sometimes in order to turn Water into Wine you must first have the Water. . .
Perfect Responses from the band. They nailed the Facts yet remained respectful and polite.I wouldve found it hard to do it as classy as they.Anti Christian Rock Christians so get up my nose. But Fred obviously meant well in his heart.I feel a bit sorry for him.Hope he came to understand how God uses bands like Stryper.I love the way they shook Hands at the Close, yknow I like to think of this as "Stryper AND Fred Nile" rather than Vs.All Brothers in Christ. Some just Need to be more open minded and think bigger.God thinks biggest!!!!
Kids pay way more attention at a rock show, (normally), than they do in a church service. Part of the Stryper 'phenomenon', was & is controversy. (Like that or not, it's a part of it) Jesus (IMHO), starting in the early 80's, His light, (Via an actual "hands on" team of men), began shining, & at one point, the most popular musical vehicle of the day, (MTv), was dominated by none other than Stryper. They are just 4 guys, who love to play Hard rock/ melodic metal, yet even though I (personally) feel they are 'unique', unlike any band before them, or since, (Not a 'Quote-Unquote' "Christian" band), because they reached certain heights, have a core of faithful, die-hard fans, and are still able to perform at a "top shelf" level, they remain relevant, and there is no denying the fruits of their incredible (Lifting up Jesus Christ), labor of love!
How uncomfortable the band must have been looking out at a sea of blue hair!! I'm not religious by any means, but I am a huge Stryper fan. I thought Robert defended his band and his beliefs beautifully. I have found that Christians are the first ones to turn on their own, and Fred does that without missing a beat here. No one spreads hate faster than the Christians.
Fred Nile is a seriously dangerous man who should not be listed to. He has some crazy ideas on what is right and wrong- hardly the expert he claims to be....
I've been a musician for most of my life, and when I was saved and started attending church at age 12, I remember how frustrated I was with the lack of Christian rock music that I found interesting. It was so wimpy and predictable. Stryper was a literal God-send for me at the time. I was the perfect example of exactly what the band is saying in this interview. There is absolutely no substance to Fred Nile's argument. He focused on superficial things, like their hair, gear, and head-banging, which says more about him than it does the band or Jesus and leads me to believe that he had a dicey grasp of what Jesus taught, whereas Stryper understood and were actually spreading the word to those who were not familiar with it, which required a lot of courage.
These self righteous people need to quit judging the book by its cover I was one of those teenagers who were reached to Christ through bands like Stryper and Petra !!!!

Good Point if you are afraid to come to a Stryper concert than don’t come at all I am a drummer player playing gospel music it is So Awesome playing for Jesus Christ
Wow.amaging
Stryper ~~southkorea fan
The Lord inhabits the praises of His people
When you're singing and praising the Lord, He's right there with you
Preachers don't like it when they can't control it and that's sad
Well I guess striper won that one.
Heck yea they did
👌👌👌👌
7:07 Looks like Fred Nile's youth group
Lol
Wow. REALLY OLD people in that audience.
Rock on, sonny.
Zach Lorton was thinking the same thing.
JESUS CHRIST IS THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE!😇🙏🕊
SO SHWEEEETTT...much love Tee with LIONS NAMED LEO.[the music worldwide}
Awesome interview and everyone was well spoken and your message was supreme...my only issue is with Michael...dude the glasses, wow
I’m disappointed that I won’t be seeing Stryper for the second time in Brisbane next Thursday night. Work. Grrrrrr
I really like Stryper! They are and have always been a very good witness to unbelievers. God bless every member of Stryper.
One of the best? THEY'RE THE BEST.

This STRYPER interview Rules !!!
2 Thumbs Up to Jesus Christ &
Stryper 👍👍
luv Stryper, been into them since the 80's...
Music doesn't take anyone away from god but gives them another outlet to enjoy. Religion is one outlet and music is another.
Good speaking Robert! Michael good preaching!
I love Stryper!🎤🎸🎵🥁
