@@lieutenantwolf5437 I think I saw the whip thing in some comics/older stories. There's been people who've explained it. I've always thought it was a little silly, but I mean, technically it's possible.

That's because this one isn't an actual lightwhip, it's a lightsaber that Vernestra Rwoh modded to resemble a whip after she studied the Sith Wars and learned about lightwhips

Githany from the Darkness trilogy around Darth Bane also used one. Drew Karpyshan actually went into huge detail about how odd it was to see something like this for even the sith, describing how each opponent lost in majority to it's unfamiliarity rather than her skill. A cool weapon to be sure.

I honestly find it more impractical than stupid just because whips in general can be unpredictable, but obviously a force user would probably have more control over it through training

No, the light wipe is not new. It's been in Star Wars since 1985 in the comics, and again in the Bane Trilogy. This show is going to suck...

I’m pretty sure light-whips have little barbs in them that are channeling the lightsabers power. Basically it’s an electric whip, like in the Clone wars example, but with mini lightsaber barbs. So yes the whip should cut/slash through people and things

To me it doesn't look like a whip but like an Indian snake sword. So indeed that it cuts when it touches something and not that it can be used to grab things.

@mickeywonders3764 This kind of lightwhip isn't new either. I'm not a huge SW fan with an extensive knowledge of lore, but in the comics light whips (bad name since it's not a whip but a sword) were a thing as well.

The lightwhip makes sense as a completely different weapon type, like in clone wars, so if it doesn’t cut (but burn, at least), I’m fine with it. It might seem kinda goofy in live action but we’ll see.

Just wanted to add while Theory is right, that hilt was used by Windu in Episode 1. It was later given to Plo Koon when Windu/Sam Jackson got his gold chromium hilt in pre-production.

People always have the need to WANT to bitch about something! Lightwhips have been around since the 80s. Darth Luminya and the Dathomir nightsisters in old EU/legends were masters at using the weapon. The electrowhip we saw in clone wars are literally a weaker variation of an actual lightwhip. Lightsabers arent just weapons but literally an extension of that jedi/sith, their style of combat and personality. In real life before guns existed people fought with swords of different designs that required different styles of combat. A lightwhip can be seen similar to a chain mace. To some a chain mace can seem impractical weapon yet history has shown that they were very deadly and used effectively in battles.

If I don't bad recall lightwips were actually part of the origins of the lightsabers, right? I do like it hopefully they make it look badass I belive there's a reason these were never used in live action and it was because they were hard to make it look good so let's see. But is nice to see they incorporate something from legends.

It's a true shame that lightwhips aren't really brought up to mainstream in any other projects than disney's. The Jedi's arsenal deserves better.

Funny how this is coming from the only Disney Star Wars creator to show reverence for the EU and excitement about the more obscure lore but everyone wanted to hate this before it’s out so they found random bs to take out of context instead. Including theory. Hope it turns out to be good. I think it has more promise than kenobi or the sequels ever did, or their new slate coming up
I think the light whips in Clone Wars were different tho because they weren't being used by Jedi. This one in the trailer looks to be an actual lightsaber whip which is way dumber imo

I feel like the whip should be a dark side user thing. Even in Star Wars the whips are a symbol of slavery and power, which the Jedi obviously don’t roll with. I think it’d be cool with the bad guy, but not a Jedi.

Wow. It's amazing to think that someone could think they're flawless. I'm guessing most people who watch this channel are millennials and younger. I grew up with the OT (4 in 1977). When the prequels came out, they were absolutely trashed by fans and critics. I mean, Jar Jar Binks... The cringe romance scenes in AOTC, the overuse of CGI, the endless talk of trade routes and negotiations.... I think people have warmed to them more over the years ,but to think they're flawless is ludicrous
