I installed this same kit in my house. Very easy and actually I had fun doing it (I’m retired). Put the hookup box out by the deck in back,bought an extra 25 ft 10 gauge extension cord and I can run my Dura-Max 5500watt generator in my garage. After I take my cars out of course. Run two refrigerators,one microwave(20 amp)one counter plug(20 amp) circuit in basement family room and the furnace. Easy peasy!

Thank you, and I will add, the first thing I think is best to do is to ID all your circuits on your main panel.. like, know what’s connected to each circuit on your main breaker box (panel box), and ID them with tape paper using a good ink, or type it out from printer.

Thanks for a quality video from a pro. I came here prior to troubleshooting my transfer switch to review a proper installation. Though I've used my Reliance kit 3 times successfully since I installed it in '19 (plus a 1 a year test) problems with two circuits occurred during last months power outage. I will be checking wire nuts first of course. Seems to be my main fault when I DIY around the house :( Have been switching to WAGO's. Thanks again sir.
I switched to Wago wire connectors too. (Not because of electrical problems) They work great. Expensive, but worth the money.

Just a Note... Each pair of wires (Red and Black) are marked with a letter- ABCD on the side of the insulation. Be be sure to keep these "paired" to the household circuits that you are choosing to run off the generator. Suggestion, See Reliance official videos.

My 4500W generator has a 3-prong outlet. Can I use a 3 prong to 4prong adaptor cord to connect the generator to the inlet box?
You can, but if I understand correctly, the 3 prong is only 115v/15 amp. (It should say near the outlet on the gen.). Your 4 prong 30 amp cord would then only be carrying what the outlet can put out, 115w/15 amp.
Which the wire gauge of the one from inlet box to the transfer switch ? This one is not included in the kit I bought from Costco. Thanks

@@handymanschool Wires must be connected outside the main panel in yet another panel. I guess the possibility of connections coming apart is the problem. Safety first, you know, lol. Canada, eh!

@handymanschool I came across this info as I'm looking to install a generator right now and apparently It came into effect a year or two ago. More expensive but yeah, people don't always make connections properly and this helps for sure.
