  • A Gulfstream 695A Jetprop Commander 1000, N965BC, was destroyed when it impacted mountainous terrain in San Bernardino, California.
The sole pilot onboard was fatally injured.
The pilot was flying the ZIGGY SEVEN standard terminal arrival route (STAR) to Chino Airport (KCNO). The aircraft suffered two altitude deviations which the pilot attributed to a problem with the autopilot. Towards the end of the flight, the airplane descended past the Minimum Vectoring Altitude (MVA) of 7400ft and was issued an altitude alert by the controller, but there was no response from 65BC. ADS-B data indicate the airplane entered a rapid descent, and had an average rate of about -10000 fpm at the last recorded point.

As if this crash and death weren’t tragic enough, many younger pilots I fly with don’t follow and review crashes of any type and cause. I can mention headline crashes from years past, and their causes, and these guys (and gals) just shake their heads in confusion. People, we’ve got to do better. All of you reading this comment know very well how important this is. Let’s do our best to get the word out and improve all pilots’ accident education levels.

That’s because they’re not pilots or aviators, and they’re not piloting or aviating. They’re just devil-may-care daredevil flyers. They just fly, hope, pray, and put in the least amount of effort possible and necessary to get in the air, not hit anything, and land, almost never in equal numbers. You can’t fix them. You can’t change them. You just have to try to avoid them, and set the best example you can for them, hope and pray for them. They didn’t want to learn to be safe, or fly safely. They just wanted to learn to fly, and want to fly. Let’s just wish them luck and slow progress.

When it got overwhelmed with ice the ADSB data showed him go into massive dive because he was using the autopilot and not hand flying in ice. The autopilot will adjust until its past its limits then abrubtly disconnect leaving pilots no time to recover. This has been the cause of several accidents. Plus he was also in turbulence.

Or don’t fly at all, if you know there will be icing. Just because airliners do it passing through quickly with better pilots and better aeronautical and safety management systems, doesn’t mean Johnny Rocket can. Don’t tell Johnny that, though, he’ll remind you of days of yore when two brave young men flew rickety planes without a license or a government agency.

Yep...as a former airline pilot who flew jets with Piccolo tubes/constant wing anti-icing system ...I won't fly in known or suspected icing in a turbo-prop or piston.
That's my fear, I'm not lecturing to any pilot.
Had a buddy get flipped in flash icing, flying a regional turbo-prop into IMC for example out of LAX
...if not for a sky pointer, he and the 30+ pax would have been lost. This and other stories = my no go in icing in a piston or turbo-prop.

so it’s your kind of attitude that lets inaccurate content flood the market instead of being called out for what it is. Enjoy (and probably believe) the nonsense!

    It’s actually a propjet, not a jet.

No, actually……it’s a turboprop……again it wouldn’t be an issue, but if you’ve going to correct somebody, do it right.

Why would you refer to this aircraft as a private jet, when it was nothing of the kind!? The answer is that you either don’t know your subject matter, or you are deceiving us. Either way, it’s hardly to stuff of respectable channels.
